 Morning

 Flo, Diet Dew

Boy I am up real early, it is 4:30 AM. I did go to bed around 7:00 PM yesterday so I am not surprised. only 5 people on line right now.

Gary Until my SD 7 went bad, it was one of my favorite engines. Then I installed a LED for the headlight and I was really happy with it. The stock light's where a joke! Looking forward to getting the new motor installed here in a little bit.

Jeffery Thanks for the answer. To bad you don't have any shells.

Vince My Cuda is pretty much stock. It has a electric pump, DB 4 intake, 750 Holley, Headers, MSD 7AL, and nasty 727 with a 3000 stall and 3:23 rear gears. Couple of time's I ran it, it was cutting low 14's, best was a 14.2. So it was not built to be fast, just fun. I do happen to have a few cams and ported heads laying around the garage. Whistling

Your power to weight ratio is 9.06 pounds per horsepower. My Charger weights in at around 4200 to 4400 pounds. But, it makes 300 HP at 2500 RPM's. Laugh At 4400 pounds my power to weight ratio is 6.386 pounds per HP. So if I could hook up, well you see the math. Whistling You would have me at mid track, but I would be Charging through the top end of the track.

Playing in the Mud. Had my fill of that crap when I was in the Army.

PK F2's. Well they are down on the list as far as to do. They have sound decoder that sounds like the Gong Show right now. Idles fine, horn and bell work's, but if you give it any gas it starts making a gong sound? Have not touched them in 4 years. A unit has the motor and B unit is a dummy with the speaker in it. Real odd part the person that installed the electronic used 2 female plugs between the two engines? Dunce I had cut the ends off some LED's and hooked them together that way before. If I get the decoder working right, I will need to come up with a better way to hook the two engines together.

Well, time to work on the SD 7. Yes

  Latter

Good Morning All:

Not much going on, it wasn’t too hot out yesterday but the air wasn’t moving so the 58% humidity at 91F wasn’t productive to outside work.  This morning I hear thunder but don’t see any rain.

A co-worker gave me an old Lionel Train Set, didn’t know what to do with it so I gave it to the guy across the street, he has 3 boys and I’m sure they will know what to do with it.

Tiger is still searching the house and looking out the windows in search of Jasmine, never knew a small animal could make so much noise….

Curt, you are correct those cars would have had to pass through Walbridge and Sandusky to get to Cleveland.

Good morning, Diners.  I would like a large coffee and a cinnamon roll, please, Chloe.

Larry and I did a fun run/walk yesterday.  The sun didn't come out until after the run.  We did the  pancake feed, the parade, the art show, and the  car show.

What a busy day.

Good morning. It's 81° with 84% humidity. There's a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be 92° but will probably feel like 104°.

I feel better today than I did yesterday. However the nerve problems are still present so I won't be doing any layout or model work today. My sister and I will be going to town for lunch. I'm really looking forward to that.

Well I was planing on BBQ Chef but this was not what I had in mine! Bang Head

Installed the SD 7 motor and drive train then powered up the motor. Freewheeling .45 amps, stalled at .85 amps. Used Decoder Pro to read and write the CV's. Sat it on the main line and gave it power! Poof, out comes the smoke! Bang Head

"Oh what a Beautiful Morning....."  Raining out there!  Yes!  In fact Ontario County where I live is under a flood advisory this morning.  We got a lot all at once, but it is rain!!!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes and real NYS Maple Syrup to go along with a few cups of dark roast coffee this morning...  Please and thank you Ma'am.

Right now outside we are getting a nice gentle rain.  The type that soaks in.  Earlier we got some torrential downpours with lots of flashes and rumbles mixed in....

Sue, sounds like fun as long as the temp wasn't in the 90's or higher.

Just heard another rukble outside, so I will cut it short and shut down for a while...

Later!

Good Morning!!!

Sunday breakfast buffet please and a cup of coffee too thank you.

Didn’t check the weather, it seems warm and muggy so I’ll let it be with that.

Jeff- Still has me shakinmy head. What if you had heart medicine that keeps the ticker ticking right? I can’t believe the docs office won’t respond. Have you checked to see if Saw Bones is even still in business? Today you may never know he could have just shut down. Not likely though, usually they send letters to patients and surely the pharmacist would know. Odd and quite concerning. I hope tomorrow brings welcome news. But now someone will have to pick up the meds or take you. You might not should be driving.

Rob- Your Brother is in my prayers.

Funny Garry. I'll send you with her next time. Or better yet, I hope Shelly decides you need to go with her purse shopping.Mischief Laugh

We talkin ¼ mile or 1/8th? 1/8th mile a big block is hard pressed to take a small block but of course can. Car size and traction plays a lot but the mass of the big engines moving parts plays a lot too. In the quarter though, I saw a friend of mine with a pretty well built 331 in a somewhat lightened 69 Chevelle get his ego checked by a (allegedly) stock Hemi in a 70 challenger back in the eighties. We wiped the streets with the Hemi all over the street one night. But when they went for a quarter Mr Chevelle was all smiles when through third gear he had the Challenger by more than a car length. But he said when he pulled 4th, that Challenger was there next to him and when they crossed the finish….the Challengers front bumper was right about the front tire and still pullin. He said he’d never run a car that came on so hard. Swore he’d never race a Hemi for money again. Don’t think he did either. Wasn’t long after that he got married and replaced the car with a child.  I like my 383. Bore of a Hemi, stroke of a 350. Best of both worlds. Which reminds me…Hmmgotta get that thing running too.

Well today is new garage opener daySigh. Yup gotta get a new one. It was old and noisy and that light began to have a mind of it’s own. While at Menard’s Brenda is gonna pick her flooring and fixtures for the Master Bath. If you recal I haven’t done that room yet. Didn’t wanna get started and get delayed with other things going on. Looks like that’ll start in the next week or two.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

At 11:15 this morning my sister, my niece and I went into town for lunch at Wagon Master Steak House. I was in no shape to drive so I didn't even attempt it. It was a disaster for me. I definitely wasn't feeling like myself. I ate about a third of an eight ounce sirloin, just three or four slices of fried pickles, not even a smal handful of peanuts, a quarter of a small salad, and a third of a bowl of steamed veggies and a glass of unsweet tea. I never drink unsweet tea but today I did for some reason. I still don't know why. Usually I have Dr Pepper. As for the pitiful amount I ate normally that would have all been gone along with a half rack of pork ribs. My niece said that if she hadn't seen it with her own eyes she never would have believed it. She would have called the person telling her a liar and taken out papers to have them committed! After we left there we went over to Lowe's to get a heavy duty extension cord. I didn't even try getting out of the car. I never fely less like moving in my entire life. Upon getting home I didn't even bother turning the computer or the layout on. I just went back to the bedroom and passed out across the bed. I woke up two and a half hours later feeling somewhat better and came up hyere and turned on both the computer and the layout and have a train running as I type this. I'm not really paying attention to it, just listening the click-clack of the wheels on the rail joints. The doc will be back tomorrow so in the morning I'll go to his office an plant myself right in fron t of the sign in window and get my precripsions renewed, every one of them! If I can't drive I'll get somebody to take me.

Afternoon guys

I've been out installing the chin spoiler I bought last week on my car. Looks a lot better with it. I'm painting the spare rear wing I have for it flat black. Kind of going for a "Boss" look, but not the Shinoda Boss look that came on my body style Mustang.

I haven't touched the trains today. I'm thinking I found a way to use the NCE D15 and have LED headlights and the 1.5v bulb beacon. Since the board in the SD7 is for 1.5v bulbs, I could re-program the rear headlight (long hood foward on this SD7) to be the beacon, and have the first function output be the green wire. Kind of worn out from the chin spoiler installm, but I may mess with it later after dinner.

Ken, My Mustang as it sits now would run a mid to low 13 in the 1/4. I've only ran at 1/8th miles and my best was an 8.7 something at around 85 mph. I just bought subframes, so hopefully they show up by Saturday and I can get them installed on my car and get a few passes in using slicks on sunday.

What kind of decoder did you use in the SD7? I've always stuck electrical tape under the decoders in all my locos. It's possible when it was moved the decoder touched the frame in 2 spots.

Todd, Ken was talking 1/4, but I've only ran 1/8s. The closest 1/4 mile track is 5-6 hours away. Ford only made a few big blocks if I recall right. There is the 427, 429, and the 460. The problem is these are kind of tricky to stick into a 79-04 mustang (same basic chassis) and you'd loose the A/C. Same issue with sticking turbos on them as well. I'm keeping my A/C since it's my daily driver. I would use the heads off of a 351 Cleveland (like the '69-70 Boss 302) if I could find an EFI intake that fit a 30 with Cleveland heads.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Lemonade pleases.

Vince Ford Big Block's / FE motors where 352, 390, 427, 428 (couple of versions) 429 and the 460. Far as sticking a BB in your Mustang? I helped stick a 460 in a Pinto.

Far as the decoder, it is a DH 123. I asked about the mishap in the DCC section. Most people think it was a defected decoder. If you wire a short, the decoder should not be able to be read by Decoder Pro. To be on the safe side, I am going to take it apart and rewire it.

BBQ is about done and I feel like this.

Not sure if it is the heat or the fact I was up at 4:30 AM this morning. Time to eat and then sleep.

 See you all later.

Hey all you car guys, when I drive through mud and water all my tires develop a bright blue coating. Why is this?

ON the layout front. I am working on scenery, I.E. grass, ballast, the like.

Jeff: bet you can't wait to get those perscriptions, eh? I really hope that is all that is wrong.

Jeff: bet you can't wait to get those perscriptions, eh? I really hope that is all that is wrong.

It shouldn't take long to get back to normal or at least as normal as I can get. When I don't have my meds, well some of them aren't very critical and just make it easier for me to do certain things, Some of them are very important. They help keep my diabetes under control, settle my nerve responses down so I can work on things. Right now I can't hold a screwdriver steady. The tip moves around in an inch and half arc. The longer I'm without the meds my system gets more and more out of whack. That's why I couldn't drive today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to drive. If not my mother will likely have to take me and she really doesn't need that.

Time for me to call it a night. I feel much better now so hopefully I'll be up to driving tomorrow morning. The doc will be in tomorrow so I'm going to park myself right in front of the sign in window so I can get all my prescriptions renewed then take to the pharmacy and get them filled. That will likely be the extent of my activities tomorrow.

I hear thunder in the distance so it's time to get out of here. See y'all tomorrow.

ain't it great how the diner exponentially grows when you are absent? Big Smile I've had a busy several days; turns out I'm probably getting paid $5 and change for spending time with Aaron, so not even making minimum wage...oh well, money is money, and it's still a pretty chill time, just means I have to be a bit more wise with what I spend money on.

Also, the dang modules DID NOT work out like I expected...I really dropped the ball on a good idea. Instead of making my standards for carriage bolt holes, cross-members, and legs, I figured I'd be lazy on these two and then tighten up on succeeding modules...lesson LEARNED. So now my options are blow more cash on lumber and screws to fix my mistakes, or go back to a switching layout, sacrifice the old workbench for a roundy-round, and then stain what WOULD have held my modules and use it as a new workbench, or just do a switching layout. decisions, decisions. I have some ideas rattling around, and for once I'll probably be writing them into a blog.

As for being busy, last week I spent a lot of the time wasting time on the modules, spent a day hanging with a few good buddies, and then friday went to Six Flags with a home group at another church I go to because my friend's parents switched to that church so I went to his home group to stay in touch with him, and then yesterday, I spent time with Aaron in the morning, and then had a family fun day ting at my church, and then today, went to a friend's birthday bbq after church, and then went with the little sis and my dad to check out a soft top in good shape that a fellow at church will sell us for about half the price of a new one, and wound up talking. So overall, just been a very busy but very fun stretch of time. Hopefully I can start carving some time out to try to keep up with y'all more often!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me right now.

We got a whole just under a half in inch of precipitation today!  Better than nothing I guess.  First rain we have had that amounted to anything in weeks.

I spent much of the day in the train rooms getting a few odds and ends done.  Figured out exactly where I want to put a turnout leading to a new section near the Kanandaqua Yard.  Removed another old tortoise machine that will be used in another location and put in a heavier throw wire.  Drilled the holes where the torti will go for two more turnouts, removed some cork roadbed that won't be needed now, repaired the missing "bolts" on the little trestle bridge I showed in WPF, and listened to some good Jazz and a few "oldies" down there as well.

Tomorrow is the Planning Board meeting for the solar project.  I will be glad to get that over with and hope there are no problems with the project.  When they sign off on it, it is basically just a waiting game for everything else to get done.  The panels should be getting installed in 3 to 4 weeks from now.  That will probably bring back the rain........

Jeffrey, good luck at the docs tomorrow, and don't drive unless you are sure you are OK!!!

Prayers for all in need!

Ballasting right know.. especially because my technique is very complicated..... Here is what I do:

  1. prep area(clean it up)
  2. put (wet) glue down and brush it it cover cork
  3. put LOTS of ballast on it
  4. let dry and remove exess ballast
  5. screen reclaimed ballast
  6. mask and paint area for gruond cover
  7. let paint dry and repeat step 2-5

It's alot of work but the end product is great:

( sorry for going off on a tangent there)

Good Morning All,

Jeff, I hope you can contact your DOC and get this medication situation fixed post haste, sounds like you had a terrible time out on the town.

Everything quieted down in the house last night until a barking dog commercial came on the TV; Tiger (cat#2) flew down the stairs and jumped into the dogs bed then ran to the back door and cried for 2 hours.

I have several leads on a new puppy, I’m not in a hurry but if the right dog comes along I’ll be ready.

Sakel, here is how I do ballast:  lay the ballast, I use a wide soft fingernail brush to spread the ballast and I use a soft flat wide make-up brush to make sure there is no ballast on the web of the rail.  Then I mist the area with rubbing alcohol.  Then with an eye dropper I apply 50/50 water/Elmer’s white glue to the ballast.  I apply enough 50/50 to saturate the area but not overflow the area.  You’ll see that the drop of glue hits the ballast and “runs around” to the bottom because the alcohol broke the surface tension if the glue lands in a drop on top of the ballast you didn’t mist the area well enough with the alcohol.  If you do it this way you don’t have any loose ballast to vacuum back up at the end and it stays exactly as you laid it.

Rob, I wish your brother a speedy recovery!

Good morning. It's 74°. Humidity is 100%. There's a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be 92° but it will feel like 107°

I'll be off to tyhe docs office in a little while. I feel much better than I did yesterday. Woke up with a low grade fever this morning so that probably explains my severe lack of appetite yesterday. I feel up to driving today so getting to the docs office won't be a problem. Be back later.

Good morning, Diners.  I will have a large coffee, and sit at this back table to see who drops by.  Looks like our afternoon climbing trip will be  postponed for a week.  There is rain on the schedule for the rest of the week.  Yuk!

Today, I will finish my latest quilt project so I can get back to layout things.  This morning, I will finally place my Walthers order for scale lumber so I can finish my car shop.  Sadly, our almost LHS that carried the scale lumber went out of business a couple of years ago.  It is disappointing to not have a chance to go to the lumber yard for supplies.

Ray,  Yes, the temp didn't get above 70 until after the event. The big hill was partially shaded, and the flat on top is usually windy, so it still would have been fine.  How much work is it to remove the tortoises when making changes on the layout?  We only have 2 on our layout.  We put them in places where the turnouts are hard to reach, or will be hard to reach when the scenery is finished.

Later,   Sue

Good Morning!!!

Coffee please and….oh I don’t know, how about ummmmm...fried potatoes with a couple eggs scrambled on top covered in sausage gravy. Thank you.

Supposed to get to 97 today. Huh?

Vincent- You can shove anything in anything with a hammer and a torchLaugh. Seriously, personally I wouldn’t put a big block in. If you’re basically in the 1/8th and with that car, you’d be money ahead lightening the thing up and working on weight distribution. Especially if it also doubles as your daily driver. And don’t get me wrong a big block doesn’t give you an automatic win anywhere, or an automatic loss either for that matter. Just generally speaking. But if you’er into it, popping the hood and seeing a huge chunk of iron shoe horned in there is impressive. But sometimes no more than that. Impressive. And personally, there is no substitute for that sound of a big block or that solid push you get when your pressed back into your seat. IMHO of course. No big block versus small block discussions, both have their place and one is more efective in a situation than the other. just my preference. Ken and I lean more towardsthe larger cars and they need the extra grunt. You may hop off that line when we just kinda step, but once we get a couple gears and that mass starts rolling then that's when things get exciting.Wink

OK. Gotta get working on that Roadrunner

Sawyer- Life is short and you are young. Get out enjoy yourself and have fun. Don’t let us hold you back. We’ll be here. Just….don’t forget us.

Sakel- My method of ballasting is exactly like Lee’s except I use an eyedropper for the alcohol.HmmHm. Guess it’s not exactly then is it. Reason? Well I personally have not had good luck with the misting or spraying of either glue as some do, or the alcohol. I end up either not getting enough in the ballast, but plenty elsewhere, or blowing ballast all over. Same with ground over. Looks like a meteor shower hit the groundLaugh. Whatever works for one may not be easiest for another. Could be the sprayers I use too. Neither is right or wrong and both are effective. Mine takes a bit longer, but Mr Murphy stands closer to me than he does Lee.

Today I will put the garage door opener up. Oh! Guess what happened when we got back with the new one? ……Hmmm?..... Bet you can’t guess what. Oh…., you did …..Yup,garage door opener workedSigh. Still works this morning too. Oh well, the other is old and this is new and was on sale. Yes on sale. Brenda would have been ok with it on that point alone even if we didn’t need it..... On sale. Woman's reason to buy, man's extra creditYes

Jeff- Good luck today and be careful if you end up driving.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!
