 Evening

 Flo, Diet Dew

Letter Carrier is trying to kill me! Vince and I are doing more shell swapping and I received the UP Shells today and they darn near broke my neck! Letter Carrier stuck them under the door step to my front door. I went out to get the mail and stepped on the box with my left foot. My right foot is in the stupid boot I was given to ware. Down on my caboose I went! Bang Head Luckily my caboose is well padded Laugh and I was not hurt. Shells made it OK as well.

 See you later.

Hey Jeff,

You know up here, If the Pharmacists  know you, as in previous scripts etc. they will re-new a prescription for you in a small amount if it is for an ongoing (continuous use) Rx.  such as yours is, so that you have a little time to get in contact with the Saw Bones to get the actual renewal.

Give it a try, you'll never know till you try.  Just sell them on the fact that it is necessary for your well being.

Hope the storms are over for you.

I already tried that. They don't do that here on Medicaid cases. As for the storms, showers and thunderstorm are forecast for the full coming week. It's a 30% chance tonight the 50% for tomorrow and Sunday.

Afternoon Folks!

Chloe, I'll have a red hot, drag it through the garden if you would, fresh sweet corn on the cob, a trip to the salad bar, and a tall iced tea!  Thank you Ma'am.

Ah...  what a day.  I came very, very close to not being here tonight.  I mean THAT literally!  On my way over to the guy's house this morning driving West on 5 & 20  a guy in a pick up truck pulled off the main lane of the road and was going up the shoulder intending to turn right at the next intersection...  I was passing him in my lane, when an idiot pulled out right in front of me from the road entering 5 & 20!  Lucky I was only doing about 50 as I had slowed down because of the pickup truck a bit....  I saw the car entering so he/she should have been able to see me as well.  I had no where to go and just locked up all 4 wheels braking.  He hit the gas and somehow (less that an inch I would guess) we missed crashing....  All I could see was my Yaris closing the gap way too fast!  He had the sense to floor his car, other wise I would broadsided him right where he was sitting.  Lucky he wasn't driving a bigger car either.  Another inch or two longer we would have connected!  I looked in my rear view mirror and he pulled his car off the road on the other side (the intersection is a T)....., probably to clean the seat and change his clothes!  I did the same a couple hundred feet up the road on my side.  Got out and checked to make sure we hadn't made contact anywhere and so I could stop shaking!

After THAT I saw about a dozen other completely stupid moves on the road on my way over to the tour....  Every idiot on the road was out there today trying to get killed.

The tour was fun!  I got to be out in his garage with the country bad he had (husband and wife team).  Banjo, mandolin, guitar, and steel guitar.  They were singing and playing old railroad songs.  After the second bus left they played a few more for all the crew that was there helping.

After it broke up, I drove over to the Apple Computer place to check on progress on the hard drive.  My worst fears have been realized...  The drive itself is shot!   He was able to easily repair the node tree problem but when he started to transfer the data to the new HD, it kept freezing up.  The drive is just worn out!  He has been able to get some of the data off it, but it runs for a while and then quits...  Just like the G5 was doing back a few months ago...  i think I mentioned the G5 became stable again after I removed the Western Digital drive....  Hmmmmmm?  Yeah, the problem back then was the same drive.  the G5 was probably fine!  Anyway the drive may have to go to a place where they have the equipment to do complete data recovery.  Lucky the price on that has come down a lot.  BTW, the drive has all my photos and old business data on it.  I never got around to back it up over the past couple of years...  I do have DVDs of the dta but about 2 years are missing....Grumpy

Lee, very sorry to hear about Jasmine!  They do leave behind a big empty spot in your heart don't they.  My prayers to you and yours.

Ulrich, good luck with the surgery if that is what happens....  Prayers for you too!

Ken.... Yep, Energy Star does make a difference doesn't it!  Another thing that is quite painless is to put as many of your appliances that have a little light always on (TV, Radios, Coffee maker, and many more) on a power strip and turn it off when you are not using it.  It does really add up.  I got a device called a "Kill-a-Watt" that plugs in to the wall and then you plug the appliance into it.  amazing how much power you can lose from appliances that are still "on" when they are "off"!  That is also how I figured out I can mow my lawn for a little over 10¢ of electricity.  The Kill-a-Watt records exactly how much energy you are using over a predetermined period of time. Knowing full well I live in little ranch house and have made many energy saving improvements over the years and that there is only one of me, but my June electric bill (including all taxes, delivery fees, destination charges, wire charges, just because we can charges, and all that) was all of $70.61....

Catch you all later!  Glad to be able to be sitting here posting!

Evening guys

Yesterday was busy as all get out. Worked from 6-2, pressure washed at work from 2-6, then helped my father with his car until 8... Never made it to the forum as I was, dirty, wet (it rained hard and came with no warning when pressure washing), and just plain worn out after 14 hours of work.

The mail has yielded me a stewart DRGW F7B shell, which will eventually be used in the F-unit project. I just want to get a picture of it on a chassis along with the DRGW F9 AB shells from Ken, before I strip and re-paint them

Lee, Sorry to hear about jasmine. It's hard to loose a friend like that.

Ken, At my place they can't make it so I step on a box, the screen door swings outwards so it's just knock them out of the way.  Luckily you (and the shells) are okay.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Time for me to call it a night. I didn't do any layout work today. My hands are too unsteady and I'm in quite a bit of pain. I did run a train for a while. Well actually I just let it run while I watched it go around the layout again and again. The GP35/SD27J/8-40B got the honors today. I didn't really feel like doing much in the way of moving cars around. Just the sound of the wheels on the rails was relaxing. Hopefully I'll be able to get at least a few hours of sleep. Rain is still falling off and on and more is expected tomorrow to the tune of at least 50%. It's so wet now that just thinking of going outside I can hear squishy footsteps. See y'all tomorrow.

We all gave condolences to Lee, BUT:

I think we all missed something in Ulrich's post!!

He said "  Monday will see a visit to the doc and most likely a trip to the hospital, with a perspective of a nasty bit of surgery coming up - old man´s disease, if you get what I mean."

Go back and read..he is in for some serious stuff {surgery???} heading his way?

AN EXTRA prayer candle will be lit for ULRICH Tomorrow!!!Angel

Prayers for ALL who need them!

Time for beddy-bye.

Evening all from SunnyCal.  Yesterday at this time (5:30 PM) it was 101.  Right now it's 81 and falling.  Swear to God if you don't like the weather out here just wait five minutes!   Our heat wave is broken, finally, after about 6 days of 100+ temperatures.  Actually, the high today was 89 and that was about three o'clock in the afternoon.   Supposed to be in the high 80's for the next four or five days.

That forest fire up around Colfax has grown, it's now about 850 acres and is threatening the towns of Foresthill and Iowa Hill.  Very steep country up there, that American River Canyon is pretty sheer in places.  Ever seen a photo of SP's "Cape Horn" with the 1100 foot drop-off?  That's the general area of the fire, which is burning several miles to the south of it.  As it stands right now, there's only two back-country Forest Service roads that allow ground crew access, so most of the fire is being fought from the air.  Luckily--and I say this guardedly--the winds are relatively calm up there, though there can be some tricky up-drafts in the steep canyon bottoms.  So far, it's about 10% contained.

Got the base coat on my 4-10-2 today, I'll let it dry for about 24 hours before starting to detail and decal it.  It's easier than my Rio Grande steam, since all it requires is a silver smokebox front and some red trim around the cab windows.   My Rio Grande locos require silver for the smokebox front and cylinder heads, darker graphite for the smokebox and fireboxes, white for the running board trim and lots and lots of patience.  Next to those lokies, this 4-10-2 is a snap!

Lee:  I'm so sorry to hear about Jasmine--no matter what anyone says, it HURTS to lose a pet.  And Labs are such sweet dogs.  My prayers for you.

Ken:  Glad you got some kind of settlement from the mattress company.  And I hope things start turning around for you soon.

Sam:  Congratulations on the Photobucket account.  Thumbs Up

Ray:  Wow, talk about a near miss, buddy--are you SURE you weren't driving in California??Stick out tongue

Well, that's about it from here.  Chester, my diabetic rescue kitty just hopped up on my lap and is staring at me with his big blue eyes wondering if daddy is going to feed him and give him his Insulin shot.  Better take care of business.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom

Chloe, in honor of today, I´ll have cafe au lait, French toast, croissant, beurre, et confiture de cerises, svp!

This is going to be a " I won´t be doing anything " day, not even working down the usual weekend  HD list. Maybe I just run a couple of trains along the line.

Have a good one!

Samuel,

on July 14th, 1789, French civilians stormed the Bastille prison in Paris. This event marks the beginning of the French revolution, which swept away the monarchy (for a little while). It is a national holiday in France, just like the 4th of July in the US.

Read more about it here.

Good Morning All:

Ulrich, best wishes for a cure that does not involve surgery.

Sakel that is a bunch of clams for a 14yo to be spending;  well maybe not considering what $100 is worth now a days.  I’m actually not that old (45) and I can remember quality boxcar kits for $5 and quality locomotives for $25.   I can also remember almost everyone carried HO-Scale stuff, Drug Stores, JC Penny’s, Sears, Kmart always had some HO-Scale rolling stock and building kits on the shelves.

Thanks for your well wishes but Jasmine is in a better place, I had hoped that the VET would have had a treatment plan that would have avoided putting her to sleep, but when she lost the use of her back legs I knew that our options were going to be very limited yesterday.  What really helped me was the VET did a great job of showing/explaining to me what was wrong and what all the options were and what the outcomes would have been. Tiger (Cat #2) is taking it harder than I am.  Tiger would sleep with the dog, play with the dogs toys, Jasmine and Tiger were buddies. Now Tiger stands at the back door waling her head off thinking I forgot to let Jasmine back inside or sleeps on Jasmines bed and wales every time I walk by.

I sent a note to my Daughter, who works for a veterinarian to keep an eye out for a good Labrador retriever puppy in need of rescuing.  Then again I never find my dogs, they seem to find me….

Sakel no it’s true, Trains Miniature, Athearn, and Roundhouse kits use to cost around $1.25 to $5 each back in the 1980’s.  I can remember picking up Life-Like and Atlas products in the hobby isle of Kmart.  TYCO stuff was always more affordable and I can remember the local 7-11 selling them for 50 cents for a box car.  The Trains Miniature kits were tough to build since they had actual springs in the trucks fortunately they always gave you one or two extra springs in each kit.

Allons enfants de la Patrie
Le jour de gloire est arrivé
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé .
Entendez vous dans les campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras,
Egorger vos fils, vos compagnes

Aux armes citoyens ! Formez vos bataillons !
Marchons, marchons,
Qu'un sang impur abreuve nos sillons!

Boy, it's been a while since I've heard that or even thought about it. My time in France is far behind me but I can still remember hearing it. Today only the first, sixth and seventh verses and the first chorus are used. Below is the original and beside it is an English translation that I found in Wikipedia.

Allons enfants de la Patrie, Arise, children of the Fatherland,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé ! The day of glory has arrived!
Contre nous de la tyrannie, Against us tyranny
L'étendard sanglant est levé, (bis) Raises its bloody banner (repeat)
Entendez-vous dans les campagnes Do you hear, in the countryside,
Mugir ces féroces soldats ? The roar of those ferocious soldiers?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras They're coming right into your arms
Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes ! To cut the throats of your sons and women!

Aux armes, citoyens, To arms, citizens,
Formez vos bataillons, Form your battalions,
Marchons, marchons ! Let's march, let's march!
Qu'un sang impur Let an impure blood
Abreuve nos sillons ! Water our furrows!

Que veut cette horde d'esclaves, What does this horde of slaves,
De traîtres, de rois conjurés ? Of traitors and conjured kings want?
Pour qui ces ignobles entraves, For whom are these vile chains,
Ces fers dès longtemps préparés ? (bis) These long-prepared irons? (repeat)
Français, pour nous, ah ! quel outrage Frenchmen, for us, ah! What outrage
Quels transports il doit exciter ! What fury it must arouse!
C'est nous qu'on ose méditer It is us they dare plan
De rendre à l'antique esclavage ! To return to the old slavery!

Aux armes, citoyens... To arms, citizens...

Quoi ! des cohortes étrangères What! Foreign cohorts
Feraient la loi dans nos foyers ! Would make the law in our homes!
Quoi ! Ces phalanges mercenaires What! These mercenary phalanxes
Terrasseraient nos fiers guerriers ! (bis) Would strike down our proud warriors! (repeat)
Grand Dieu ! Par des mains enchaînées Great God ! By chained hands
Nos fronts sous le joug se ploieraient Our brows would yield under the yoke
De vils despotes deviendraient Vile despots would have themselves
Les maîtres de nos destinées ! The masters of our destinies!

Aux armes, citoyens... To arms, citizens...

Tremblez, tyrans et vous perfides Tremble, tyrants and you traitors
L'opprobre de tous les partis, The shame of all parties,
Tremblez ! vos projets parricides Tremble! Your parricidal schemes
Vont enfin recevoir leurs prix ! (bis) Will finally receive their reward! (repeat)
Tout est soldat pour vous combattre, Everyone is a soldier to combat you
S'ils tombent, nos jeunes héros, If they fall, our young heroes,
La terre en produit de nouveaux, The earth will produce new ones,
Contre vous tout prêts à se battre ! Ready to fight against you!

Aux armes, citoyens... To arms, citizens...

Français, en guerriers magnanimes, Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors,
Portez ou retenez vos coups ! You bear or hold back your blows!
Épargnez ces tristes victimes, You spare those sorry victims,
À regret s'armant contre nous. (bis) Who arm against us with regret. (repeat)
Mais ces despotes sanguinaires, But not these bloodthirsty despots,
Mais ces complices de Bouillé, These accomplices of Bouillé,
Tous ces tigres qui, sans pitié, All these tigers who, mercilessly,
Déchirent le sein de leur mère ! Rip their mother's ***!

Aux armes, citoyens... To arms, citizens...

Amour sacré de la Patrie, Sacred love of the Fatherland,
Conduis, soutiens nos bras vengeurs Lead, support our avenging arms
Liberté, Liberté chérie, Liberty, cherished Liberty,
Combats avec tes défenseurs ! (bis) Fight with thy defenders! (repeat)
Sous nos drapeaux que la victoire Under our flags, shall victory
Accoure à tes mâles accents, Hurry to thy manly accents,
Que tes ennemis expirants That thy expiring enemies,
Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire ! See thy triumph and our glory!

Aux armes, citoyens... To arms, citizens...

(Couplet des enfants) (Children's Verse)
Nous entrerons dans la carrière We shall enter the (military) career
Quand nos aînés n'y seront plus, When our elders are no longer there,
Nous y trouverons leur poussière There we shall find their dust
Et la trace de leurs vertus (bis) And the trace of their virtues (repeat)
Bien moins jaloux de leur survivre Much less keen to survive them
Que de partager leur cercueil, Than to share their coffins,
Nous aurons le sublime orgueil We shall have the sublime pride
De les venger ou de les suivre Of avenging or following them

Aux armes, citoyens... To arms, citizens...

Good morning. It's 73° and a bit damp here. The high will be 85° and there's a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Today will be a do-nothing day for me as I've already broken two freight cars while putting them away. You don't even want to know what my blood sugar reading was this morning. Let's just say it was high enough to get me depressed and there's no danger of a crash. Right now I'm watching a train travel around the layout, same motive power as last night. Later I'll switch them off and and put on the two FT's.

Morning Folks, Did someone say there is CAKE? Dinner

 Flo, Coffee Pleases.

Lee When we lost our first Wolfhound, Tiffany (American Eskimo) took it hard as well. All she did was lay around and looked sad. Then we got Shaddy (current Wolfhound) and she did perk up some. Not like Sonya was back but she was more lively. Might all so be for the fact that Shaddy was still a pup and kept wanting to play with Tiff.

Lots of running to do today. Think we will BBQ today, been months.

 See you all later.

 Ken

Where the heck did that come from? Just pulled out my box of motor's and parts. Looked in the box and right on top there was a motor marked PK2! Looks like my PK 2000 Rio Grand SD 7 will be back on the rails soon! Just tested the motor and free wheeling it is only using .09 amps and stalls at .89 amps!

Model Builder (Jay from the site) sent me the box a few years ago. Never noticed it with it looking like a Athearn motor. Just happen to be laying the right way for me to see the PK2 markings on the side!

 Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a couple sour cream glazed donuts to go along with a pot of Dark French Roast coffee!

Currently 82°F outside on its way up to the low 90's.  Other than a few wispy clouds in the sky no sign of anything containing the moisture we desperately need here...  Good day to play with trains I think!

Thanks to those who are glad I am still among the living.... Big Smile  I can still see the side of the car coming closer and closer.....

Ulrich!  Now ya did it!  Not only is La Marseillaise running through my mind but also the Slavic Orthodox Troparion of the Holy Cross, God Preserve Thy People, and God Save the Tsar as wellNot only that but I keep hearing canon shots every now and then!!!  I love Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's music anyway!  Hmmmm, maybe the canon shots are just from left over 4th. of July fireworks somebody is setting off?

"Firm bound in Brotherhood, Gather the clan, that........."  Gonna be one of those days I guess!

Lee, when I had to put my Mom's old cat to sleep after taking care of her for 3 years, it took Manet over 6 months to stop sniffing the computer where old Shiela used to rub herself.  He would sniff and then look over at me and start to meow.........  Make sure kittie #2 gets plently of attention during this time.

Best find something else to be doing.

Later!

[edit] Now ya did it Bill!  Looks like lunch is on me......

Your story reminded me of a incident I had back in 1983. I was driving a 1974 Ford station wagon back then, a beat up thing I picked up for $260 to use for getting around town. I was going out to Fort Polk one day and was in a 45 mph zone. This guy in a 1982 Camaro comes out from a gas station and doesn't even bother to look to see if traffic is coming. He pulls right out into my lane and then stops to let traffic in the other lane clear. I hit the brakes as hard as I could and locked up the wheels and I could see that Camaro getting closer and closer. I got that big car stopped with the bumper just touching his door and he looked like he'd laid a brick right there. Stupid people. If I hadn't been paying strict attention to what was ahead I would have pushed his door all the way over to his other door and he would have been in really bad shape or worse.

Hey Jeff,

You know up here, If the Pharmacists  know you, as in previous scripts etc. they will re-new a prescription for you in a small amount if it is for an ongoing (continuous use) Rx.  such as yours is, so that you have a little time to get in contact with the Saw Bones to get the actual renewal.

Johnboy out,...............................................................and  to now trim out a basement window that I got distracted from a couple of months ago.

That is ILLEGAL in Canada and the Pharmacist, if he ever got caught would lose his license to dispense.

Whistling

Say what you will, it works here.  (but for life being endanger without the drug only)

Johnboy out.
