Cherry limeade with the usual hot sauce please.

Well I feel better than I did this morning. Head still feels a little strange and the vision is still fuzzy but there's no more dizziness. Still can't read without the glasses. Usually I can read the forum postings without them. Nothing much happening here. There are clouds moving through but no sign of rain.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood afternoon, bucket of ice water please and thank-you...100+ degrees outside.

Young Mr. SAKEL said: "In other news, went walking down the tracks,(sshhh, it's okay to do that over here) and saw two intermodals at a grade crossing, at 70mph (living on the speedway does have it's advantages) and, I was walking though the swamp on a fill with water on each side when a 68 car mixed freight going, you guessed it, 70mph came barreling at me, so I was forced to stand 6 feet from the tracks while it passed. " Son, you're not going to be among the living very long if you keep THAT up!  Go to Operation Lifesaver's website www.ols.org and have a look at some of the videos on there, might give you a little different perspective on walking down the tracks...which sorry to say Hoss, isn't "okay" anywhere. Technically it's trespassing. It's also a good way to end up in the morgue.  Also, standing 6' back from a 70mph train? You'd better hope and pray no loads have shifted, no banding has come loose.  That's also begging for a morgue trip.

Sorry to be a pain in the caboose on this, but the former firefighter/paramedic in me just had to say something. If'n it ticks you off...THAT's fine. I'll live with it. If'n it helps keep you alive...THAT's even better.

LEE: Cute little pup!

ULRICH: Glad to see you back, take care Friend, take care.

TODD said something really profound in here a day or two ago....don't remember what it was, the profundity of it all apparently was too much for me to recall.

Have a good, SAFE day people!

Sakel: Walking down the tracks is a good way to suddenly find yourself amongst the recently deceased. I used to be a fire fighter and first responder and I went on more than my share of 'accidents' where people were killed doing exactly what you're doing. Believe me, it's not a pretty sight. The hardest scenes I had to work were those involving kids. Believe me, I would have given anything to be somewhere, anywhere else than there. I still have nights where I wake up in a cold sweat because of it.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I'll have the stuffed pork chops, a baked potato w/ sour cream, and an ear of fresh sweet corn, along with a tall glass of lemonade (without Jeffrey's sauce) please!

Chris, well said!!!  Only thing I have to disagree with is the word Technically.  It is trespassing on RR property!  Period!  Everywhere!

Sam, we'd like to see you around here for a long time.  Never ever walk the ROW on RR property.  I know of way too many people who thought it was OK...  Their friends and family miss them!

Later!

"Only thing I have to disagree with is the word Technically.  It is trespassing on RR property!  Period!  Everywhere!"

100% correct, and I should have stated it THAT way. I must be slipping from the heat!

Not to belabor the point SAM, but if you're lucky, the worst result of a walk down the tracks will be a little "facetime" with a Law Enforcement Officer. That train crew, barreling down on you at 70 mph undoubtedly was not happy to see you "in the gauge," and more than likely called the dispatcher to warn other trains in the area. The dispatcher probably contacted local LEOs to see if they could find you and have a chat.

The worst case result will be some firefighters washing what's left of you off of the front of a locomotive. If  THAT sounds a bit graphic, a bit over-the-top...too bad. THAT's reality. We had a guy killed on the tracks here in Clarence in 2007 (the year before I got on the FD here). After the volunteer firefighters and volunteer EMTs of the ambulance crew walked both sides of the train looking for and counting body parts (to be sure it was only one victim), the train crew refused to take the train on West until the remains were removed from the locomotive. A charged hoseline took care of THAT. Now SAM, picture the train crew seeing a young life wiped out...and nothing they can do to stop it. Picture the firefighters, cops and EMTs who have to pick up the pieces...literally. I worked with the guy who had been on the nozzle THAT night washing off blood, brains, other bodily tissue...he was never quite the same after THAT.

I suggest you go for walks someplace else.

Chris

Mr. Sakel.

When I T'were a young'un about your age, a in days of old and a long, long, time ago in a land far far away from yours... I used to take the short cut home by way of the tracks {the Erie Lackawanna}. THere was a bridge over the creek that had no "floor" to it..just ties over the open creek. Now, I is affeared of heights sumptin' fierce, adn so I'd go tie by tie one step at a time carefully to get across it. Well, usually my time of getting out of school was an empty time on the rails, but one day as I was about 20 ties from the end of the bridge, the train started coming...and I had to hurry. I learned quickly I would NEVER DO THAT AGAIN.

Well, the end of another do nothign day. MOH returns to work tomorrow form vactaion. WOudla been nice if we coulda done some train stuff, but we will maybe fit in a trip to steamtown jsut to nose around agian.

Mr. ULRICH..The Prayers for you MUST be working!! Good to hear "everything is coming out fine".

Prayer continue for others!

Evenin' Chloe - yep, still hot out there (80's F), but it is summer, right? I'll have a RBF please. Helps cool a body down. Thanks!

Sam, let's just keep ya safe and with us, so we can look forward to you posting layout pics of all kinds.. 'Nuff said, since everybody else has covered things well. We Diners hate to learn one of us has passed along to that roundhouse in the sky (so to speak...), and it's worse yet when it was something sudden. Oh, and watch out for Jeffrey's hot sauce - in much of anything! Surprise

Jan (herrinchoker) - 4 feet by 16 feet? Man, in iNvisible scale, that's a whole RR empire! And a 12-bay roundhouse? Sounds good (keep buttering up the CFO to get the expanded trackage (and space) rights. Thumbs Up Also, if you have a drawing/JPEG of the track plan, feel free to post it. Yeah

Jeffrey, hope you get feeling better tomorrow than today. And thanks for posting that photo - that one looks like a well-weathered version of the Grandt Line corrugated warehouse kit (#300-5908 in Walthers' catalog).

Ulrich, good to hear your health is improving (even if it's taking a little time). Keep it up, sir! Thumbs Up That one (self-powered) passenger train reminded me a bit of the Budd RDC's.

BridgeTom - sorry to hear about your new loco's dive (oof!), but glad that it survived okay and is (with a 'little' help(er) back to running the rails for you. (Whew!)

Garry, AngelAngel for good results on your tests, prep w**k, and actual surgery for your ticker-tocker-kicker. Keep us posted in here, please. Remember I still have another trip to your area, once you get healed up.

Had a somewhat busy day at w**k today, here and there -  and, had one drunk caller (speech slurring, etc.) who had a question about a medication... that wasn't his own)Whistling Went to lunch about 2:30 p.m. (not as late as some times). Good thing was, I only had about another hour left when I came back from lunch. Smile

Not much more news from my corner here (as a collective Sigh is heard in the Diner...), so I'll be heading for home once I finish my RBF. Prayers will continue for those in need of healing, comfort and rest, as well as a few Diners who've likely (we hope) just been busy with 'necessary stuff' and didn't make it in (or have been distracted, like me).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a tall glass of unsweetened Ice Tea please.  Way to hot for decaf right now.

11 O'Clock at night here and 80°F outside.  Guess the air conditioners will be on all night again!  Supposed to get some thunderboomers and a bit of rain to cool things off soon, but i hope to be Zzz by then.

I managed to get some quality time in the train room by avoiding doing some other tasks I should have today....  I did finally clean the aquarium with my two surviving fish.  I have a Clown Loach and a Coradoras Catfish both over 10 years old....  I plan to get the 50 gallon tank back up and running sometime.  Maybe over the winter.  Only trouble is I plan to replace the carpet in the living room and the tank would be a major problem to move.  In the train room I cut and stained about 300 ties, laid ties in place for about 5' of track, and listened to some tunes.....  I am waiting on an order from fast tracks to finish a couple of turnouts and get them installed.  Soon I shall have trackage running all the way to the lower staging tracks!  Possibly before the weekend.

Garry, prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!'

Ulrich, glad to see you in here, and good to hear you are getting better!

Jeffrey, Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.  Take care of yourself!

Sam, I hope you don't think we are being tough on you.  The first thing they teach ion rules class for all railroads is that each and every rule is there because someone died, or was seriously injured.  Every rule is written in someone's blood!  we want you to stay safe and hang around here long after we are all gone!!!

Time to call it a night!

Good Morning,

another sunny day. today! Petra and i will go for a short walk and have a picnic. I won´t be able to hike fo miles, just a little walk in a nice area.

This is where we will be:

Sam - walking on tracks is something folks won´t do in my neck of the woods. We have 250+ train movements a day here, with freight trains doing 75 mph, commuter trains doing 100 mph and LD trains doing 125 mph. Believe me, 6ft. clearance is not enough when a train is passing by at 125 mph. Stay safe, buddy!

Have a good one, all of you!

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Tuesday, July24th, 2012!!!

Enjoy your Day!!!

Make someone's day...do a good deed for them anonymously!!!

It is SO hot in the USA:

.....you can make sun tea instantly
.....you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
.....the temperature drops below 90 F and you feel a little chilly.
.....you discover that in July it only takes two fingers to steer your car

Good Morning!!!

Rack of ribs, baked potato with sour cream and butter, and coleslaw please. Creamy type. Oh and a Dr Pepper thank you.

A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 102.

Whew! Tom- That first part about gravity made me think a bridge was involved. Was relieved to find out otherwise.  I knew you wouldn’t completely retire. It’s in your blood and will be until the blood stops bein there.

Young Samuel- I see you met Vinnie! Laugh Don’t fret the responses to the track walkin stuff. No one is mad. No one means it in any way other than for your safety. Other side is the legal side. It is trespassing as the respective RR owns it and is very, um….what do I mean…..possessive of it. Yes. Possessive is a good word. They want no one to get hurt and will adamantly defend their space. Also, Kalmbach (aka Vinnie's "Family" Whistling ) . I see no posting by you relaying the story so I assume either you or Kalmbach reps removed it. If "The Family" did, don’t feel like the Lone Ranger. You are not the first to have that done. Same with a few pics showing someone in just such a position. They do not want to promote anything word or picture that may indicate they condone any type of illegal or unsafe behavior especially around as pertains to railroading.

Truth be known, most all us can relay a story or two about activities involving tracks, ROW’s or even maybe equipment in our youths that would be removed as well. Sit down Vinnie, sit down. I won't.

By the way, did anyone tell Young Sam that the diner can make virtually any food or beverage, any recipe? I don’t think he realizes what he ordered when he ordered one of everything.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special this morning, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sourdough toast.  Please and thank you!  What?  Oh yes my usual coffee in a R&GV RR Mug please.

Currently 77°F outside here in the Finger Lakes this morning under partly cloudy skies.  High will be around 80° later.  I may decide to get some of the outside stuff done I have been putting off.

Ken, hope some things will be better back at work with certain people missing.......... Smile, Wink & Grin

Ulrich, loos like a nice place to take a stroll!  Hope you and Petra have a great time.

This just in.... The City of Canandaigua has closed the public beach swimming area for an undetermined amount of time!  "The beach at Kershaw Park remains closed, as city officials — along with other agencies such as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation — continue to investigate a “black goo” substance that was found in the public swim area."  Hmmmmmmm???

Guess I should stretch my legs and see what else I can get doing for a while.

Later!

Well today I brought out a well car I weathered some time back. It's the first time it's been on the layout for more than a test. Originally it was quite allergic to 18" radius curves and #4 turnouts but with a little filing on the coupler pockets and removing a couple of small pieces from the frame it now tracks very well. At about eighty scale feet coupler face to coupler face it's the longest freight car I have.

 Afternoon Dinners

Flo, Beer Pleases and keep them coming!

Reason for the Beer well I am BBQing and it is a state law you have to drink beer while BBQing.

Today has not been a good day as a whole. While I got what I needed to do done, not a lot went right. UPS brought my med's, but did not knock hard and left with them! They left a note saying they would be back Wednesday. Well that is fine and dandy, but they have to be kept cool! They are packed in a cooler with a cool jell pack. We where able to get hold of UPS and did get them later in the day.

Next I spent 3 hours of scanning and printing documents for Bank Of Stupid and Madison County VA Help Program. Have a appointment with the Madison County VA Help Program Wednesday at 9:00 AM. With some luck they will help with the electric bill and maybe make a house payment for me. Crossing my figures on that one!

Next, another trip to the VA Hospital to be seen by the Infectious Disease Clinic at 1:00  PM. Think that is more to make sure I did not get anything while I was a the VA Hospital.

Then Thursday I get the Skin Graft on the toe. Personally I think it sounds like a bigger deal than it really is. I sure hope so, because Friday I go back to work!

Work Front Called Eric a little while ago and I am on the Schedule Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. I hope he forgets to ask for my Dr Release! I just looked at it today and saw I cannot stand over 5 hours! That sure is not going to work! Whistling

Susie, my Wife I am starting to really worry about her. OK, she's been ate up from the day I meet her (in a cute way) but it is getting worse. She cannot keep anything straight (expect when her stupid TV show's come on) and is misplacing stuff all the time. I am starting to worry that Alzheimer's is setting in. Her Dad had it when he passed away really bad. Maybe it is just the stress, with me being in the hospital and her having to help me with the IV's that could be the case. I hope that all it is!

Well the meat is about done and so am I.

Hi, all! Hope things are getting better/ going well!

Been real busy work- wise, picked up 4 big gut and remodels in the last 2 weeks. Yay!!

Some very cool pics lately.

PFC Son's deployment was moved up a bit, Sept. or shortly thereafter. Can any of the Ill./Ind. diners tell me anything about Camp Atterbury? His platoon( 4 MRAPS, 36 guys ) was hand picked by the Battalion CO to train up some guys from the Indiana NG. PFC Son's platoon will be security for the NG's mission. He DOES get leave so I'll get to see him pretty soon!! YAY!

On the train front, got my 3 geeps back and they run great! Built another 150 goldenrod trees and planted them. Out of green blend foam, so I'll have to wait a bit to make more. Still need to get more Enviro-tech for the rest of the rivers and such.

Keep the pics coming!

The lead F unit has a very cool Mars light!
