Morning all. Sadly, I must make a dishareartneing report on the state of the MRR world. We as modellers lost a good man last night. His name as JC, and was one of those "Been there, done that, let me tell you the story" or "Here's the history..." kind of people. Wonderful man, very knowledgeable, and a lot of fun. He did a lot for the Naptown & White River and in getting many's feet wet in the hobby.

Afternoon folks!

I started this 3 hours ago and got sidetracked with other business THAT needed to be attended to (NMRA Promises to a little lady stuff).

Fixed that for ya, thought I'd help get your prioriteis straight... :P

Good Morning...

It is a dull morning for our viewing pleasure as our snowcover will likely get a little coating of---ta dah!!-freezing drizzlle! Yes, the fine weatherbeguessers are telling us that there is a 60% chance of freezing drizzle this morning...yay.Whistling

Anyways...I woke up to a herd of charging rhinocerii and then rustling and clinking---guess what was trying to hide...

...and not one decoration ended up on the floor or on another branch...how he does this I'll never know..

Good Morning,

I ordered an illuminated Christmas tree this week for the layout and I found the Bachmann EZ Mate couplers are on sale; 67 cents/pair when you buy 25 pair. 160-78105. that’s not a bad price and I haven’t had any trouble with their couplers (yet).

I didn’t do anything last night, but I hope to get some layout time this weekend; maybe the whole weekend….

Joe, good luck on the theology paper.

Garry, you're right, CSX does seem to us a lot of lease power at times, seems like they just can't keep enough power in their own colors, so they end up leasing out a lot.  Seems like Helms (HLMX) seems to get the most of the lease, but for some reason I don't see all that many down this way.  Most of the leasers I see are northbound out of Montgomery.  Now I will ocassionally see run-through power from another road, but I don't really see all that many leasers.  And on the issue of the GP38-2, its not a huge deal, it is just a LL trainset locomotive, so its not all that great of quality nor all that great of a puller, but, its still a functional locomotive, so having it damaged isn't exactly what I want, but oh well, I'll fix what I can and what I can't, I won't.

Now, girls, I think I will take a RBF after my ribs and other goodies I just had.  Thank y'all.

Evening all.

Been one heck of a week. Haven't been in in forever.

I have some of the photos from the Toys For Tots train up, if anyone is interested. One is my avatar, but click on the "Flickr" link in my signature to see the rest.
I'm having trouble uploading the videos, so I'll try to get those and a full report up ASAP.

I'll be working on a 5 pg. Theology paper based on Toys For Tots this weekend, and it's due Monday, so depending on how that goes, I can't promise if I'll be in much, if at all.

I gotta go, so I'll catch you guys whenever.

Wow, Bama ... Sorry to hear about your GP38-2 becoming a "floor model". My "floor model" is an SD9 which plunged about a year ago. I repaired the damaged truck, and did what I could to repair the step in one corner. ... I recall seeing CSX trains in AL, and they included several units from leasing companies.

Nice F3, Jeff.

Evening all.  Glass of sweet tea, half rack of honey bbq babyback ribs, mashed taters, and a side salad please.  Not much happening tonight, just had an incident involving my LL GP38-2 taking the long plunge to the floor.  No major damage although the back steps and rear pilot are pretty busted up.  Should be able to glue it all back together, if not, I might just use the engine to practice painting and weathering until I can find a suitable body to slap on it.

Speaking of parts, pieces and other assorted mayhem, does anyone have a set of front, rear, and walkway rails for an Athearn GP40-2?  I've seemed to have lost mine, which does me no good especially since I've already started the repainting process on it.  Its really the first engine that I was planning on repainting, and I've already gotten the first coat of paint on it, waiting for it to dry before going any further.

I've also been doing some thinking about my layout.  I know that the subdivision that I'm modelling interchanges with several other rail lines along the way.  The question is do I model them all, or just model certain ones selectively?  I would love to have an engine or two from each of the connecting railroads that the Dothan Subdivision interchanges with, but I also know that will be a pretty penny to spend on engines that will only be used here and there, as compared to the numerous CSX engines that I will be employing to run the various through trains.  Hmm, decisions, decisions.

Glad to see and hear that everyone is doing well as of tonight,   Vincent, sorry to hear of your water pump troubles, but I've been in that boat more than once myself.  Probably going to have to pull an intake off a 97 Ford Taurus to remove a broken thermostat housing bolt on a friend of mine's car either tomorrow or monday...

Welp guess I'll sit here at the RC and eat my food, probably going to order a sundae to top all this off when I get done, but who knows, I might be so full that I'll move to a window booth and watch the winter weather, and other happenings outside.

Barry ...  I hope you're doing great with the implant. Has Audry found the dimmer switch for it yet? Whistling

No progress on the layout today, but I did run some trains. I like doing that for certain!

Afternoon guys

I tried replacing that water pump gasket today. It got complicated. One of the bolts broke, so I had to take off the timing cover (have to take off the harmonic balancer to get it off) to get the rest of it out of the block. It's stuck so I've hit it with PB blaster and will let it soak overnight. Turns out there was a hole in the bottom of the water pump that was causing my leak. spending a lot on matenience instead of part for making it faster Sad Already ordered a new water pump from o'riellies. Should be here tomorrow, While I'm there I'll check on new balljoints and a throwout bearing. I forgot to tack one on to my father's summit order, but I did get my urethane bushings and the gifted 3.55 gears the other day.

The weather was around 70 today, but the on/off rain made working on the car kind of tricky. Dunno how tomorrow's is supposed to be, but I'm supposed to put the car back together (with a smaller crank pulley and a larger water pump pulley (pulled of a 95 5.0 cobra so should work fine on my 94 5.0 GT)

Ray, nice article there.

Barry,  I liked the sunday school one.

John, how are you getting your fiber optics to be bright. I tried some (for lighting beacons) and wasn't impressed with how dim it was.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Evenng All,

Yep, 25F here same as it was this morning when i arrived at w..k. I'll have a regular coffee, swiss burger and some onion rings please. Right over here at the counter please - still gotta trot home.

Interesting in the shop since I basically have no strength or movement in the right arm yet. Can't put any weight on it but motion is less painful than it was yesterday. In light of everone elses issues this is really nothing.

Ray - love the pics of the S.L.O.W. All the featured roads were nice but being somewhat biased I liked yours the most.

Ulrich - super job on the mini layout. Enough track to do some good switching and still have continuous running in and out of view.

Ah, here's my chow - I'll just sit at the rivet counter for a spell and eat. OUCH Chloe - I meant chow in the nicest way possible. Honest - no slights intended and please ask Vinnie to put down that fry pan.

Once I finish, it's off to home for me. Catch Y'all later.  J.R.

Jeff ... I have some of those F3's, and really like them. One exception, the axle gears will break. I purchased new wheelsets from Walthers to correct.

That was one of the first things I checked on it as the Proto Series has a history of cracked gears. The gears all checked out as good but I have an old Athearn F7 in the junk box that has good gears in case they are needed. The gears in the Athearn loco can be used as a direct replacement in the P1K F3.

Good afternoon.

I just finished some work on my layout--using one hand, mind you...can't lift anything with the left hand over my head here--otherwise the leads will come out from where they are nestled in my heart.Whistling

We aalso discovered that the other side of our crescent--remember all that wonderful new pavement we got last summer?--got tore up again due to an attack of 'brokenpipe-itis' So that side will be pot-holed and just about as chewed up this Spring as it was before they put the new asphalt in...Bang Head I'll get off my SoapBox now...

Afternoon folks!

I started this 3 hours ago and got sidetracked with other business THAT needed to be attended to (NMRA stuff).

Thank you to those who have commented on the online article.  BTW Ron's scenery is simply the best I have ever seem anywhere!  He only has about 20% of it finished at this time, but it just blows me away to see the quality of his work!  He is one of the people who judged my layout for the NMRA Scenery Certificate.

I have to get to a hearing center appt., so I will catch up on things later today.

Have a good one!

Hi Guys,

it´s me again!

What a boring afternoon! I watched an old Western movie "The Lawless Breed" and added a few more finishing touches to my UK friend´s layout, which now looks like this:

I guess I am done with that now (and have to look for a new "victim").

As I cannot buy a new loco, I decided to draw one, just for me Smile, Wink & Grin. This is my version of a D&RGW C-18:

Next time, I will try my hand at a K-27.

Ray - congrats on getting your pictures published in RMC! Bow

Jim - that sleep issue is getting serious - I am down to my knees by now. Sleeping pills are not the answer.

I hope everyone is having a good day!

Tongue Tied

Call me confused.   My apologies to Galaxy, but never the less I wish you all the best with your breathing problems. I have had similar problems most of my life only not so severe as yours and well controlled to boot.  I really struggle some in the winter with scraping, shovelling and blowing snow.  I have to stop often and let the breathing (catch-up) then continue.

Barry, I don't understand how I mistook you or Galaxy, you don't even look like brothers.  Lol. However my thoughts are the same for you. I am very glad all went well and look forward to your continuing progress.

I hope this one doesn't get posted twice like my last couple.  Don't know whats with that either.

Todd, most of the Aids to Navigation on the Great Lakes get frozen up now and then due to the fresh water.  I’m really surprised that one made the news.

Robby I’ll see what I can do, but remember Lake Ontario is too deep (133 fathoms)  to freeze over so I think you might have to deal with the Nor’ Easter Lake Effect weather for a while.

Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have a #2 special, scrambled, with wheat toast, blackberry jam, glass of Ed's OJ, glass of milk and a Rio Grande mug of your TH, please 'n' thankyou!

Hey, hey! We have a published MRR'er here (twice!) - Ray has TWO pics of his layout on the RMC website BowBow - And when's that issue gonna be, Ray? (I have a subscription to RMC in additon to MR).Kudos, Ray!

Chris, I was kinda wondering if THAT switcher was more modern. I was a'thinkin' that the SW1500's had four lights on the front (so I guess I was right on that). Better watch yourself (and where the exits are) if you're covering school board meetings, after that recent Florida incident. Surprise Getting downright dangerous just to go places nowadays, almost. Hey, on that '41 and...' comment, are you saying you might not make it through the door? Whistling Ouch! Hey, I was kidding, quit whacking me with your helmet, I'll stop!Black Eye

Jeff - did you at least have a tailwind on the way home from your bank and shopping trip? Wink From your posts, it sounds like you're making progress on your layout re-do. Thumbs Up Hey, it's that time of year when the weather ain't so nice outside, so we may as well stay in and do layout stuff. Yeah And I am NOT wanting any sock in your mouth; as you said, you can teach the younger guys in the department that the safe way is the ONLY way to learn how to fight the fires. That is every bit as important for them and for the department in the long run (IMHO - my My 2 Cents).

Vincent, best wishes on good scores on your finals! C'mon back later when you have some time (during semester break, maybe).

Barry, hope your ache/pain fades away, and good to hear that your defib is in place. Does what you said mean that your heart's turned around, or what? (If I got that correct...)Confused

Ulrich, with the change(s) on your friend's layout plan, they should be able to ship more freight in and out. Hope your sleep gets better (more consistently sleeping, that is). Angel

DerJohn - I like what you've done there (both the signal in place, as well as how you have the scenery in that section)! Thumbs Up Yeah, I can understand that reluctance to fiddle with a fully automated and w**king signal system (and THAT's not counting the expense for all the circuitry to run it...).Sigh But somehow, I seem to be picking up signals when they're on sale...Oops May need to reconsider just what I buy in that category...

Bama, good to hear you found a local MRR'er - as Garry or others can vouch, having somebody else to come by our layout is good for 'egging' ourselves on to get more done on our own. Yeah

Garry or Todd - I think I missed the post about Garry getting published (or forgot already...) - what (Diner) page was that post on, so I can go find it?

We had a (very) slight coating of ice on the roads last night, but lucked out, in that the temps are warming up today, so the schools in town didn't even call off for today. Now, north of us the temps are lower, so I expect that up Todd's and Inch's way, it may be mighty slippery today (unless they got that fluffy white stuff instead of ice). Wherever you Diners are, drive careful (there's some idiots out there on the roads, likely) And no, I'm not calling you that! Whistling

Since Garry might call in the HazMat crew on me, I'll skip the chili today. (Hey, I warn everybody if it feels like something's gonna happen...)

I'll be at the window booth, looking at that white stuff coming down. Looks purty (so long as I'm not out driving in it, at least!).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Morning! Coffee please. Thanks. Making it quick while I can.

Glad Barry’s doing well.

Congratulations Ray on the pictures. Once again, the SLOW looks fantastic!

Lee- Saw a picture on the news of the lake water ice covered lighthouse in or near Cleveland. Nasty looking weather.

Luckily we had not much of the predicted freezing rain last night so very little actually showed up. Hopefully it stays that way until noon when the threat is over.

Boy Garry and Ray published in the same month That is great.

Gotta run. Mom’s up.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Morning all.  I'll have biscuits, gravy, sausage, eggs scrambled with cheese and the tallest glass of milk you can find, girls.

Not a whole lot happening, about to head off to w*rk.  Its warmer here, expected high of around 60 today, but with rain showers likely today and tomorrow.  Then its going to turn off colder again, right in time for Christmas, whoo hoo!

I may have found a fellow MRR'er down here in the Troy area, a lady that we met a few weeks back in the Dr's office whilest the youngest was being immunized, has a husband that also MRR's, and he was looking for a partner in crime, so I may have one, yippeee!

Welp that's about it for me, I'm going to sit here at the RC and enjoy my breakfast (haven't been in here to do this in a while, so I'll enjoy it).  Other than that, later taters!

Not much planned for me today,   Maybe go by the library and take some books back.   Train wise.........Maybe go mess around in the basement.

Ray..........That was a good article, and some great shots!!!

Lee.......Some way you can speed up the process of the lakes freezing.    Getting tired of the "lake effect" snow Stick out tongue.
