Just a sweet tea, please.  It did warm up some.  Now its 17  degrees, and wind chill 5.

Went to get Jessica some lunch, and get a few more gifts and......Seen a couple of small cranes fixing a derail near a warehouse.    Kinda looked like my switching job on the layout.

The warehouse has two sidings and one of the hoppers were on both sidings, so that's not good.   They expanded the sidings over summer, but I guess they did a bad job of laying track.   What sucks is...You can get down to the wreck to get some shots.   You have to look while you drive.

Well I guess I better wrap some gifts.  I will pop back in later.

How do you like that! I posted a thread out in the main room with a link to the site where I have some HO stuff for sell and it was deleted without even a word.Well I can still post it on a few other forums.

Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have a blueberry bagel and a Santa Fe mug, please (in keeping with the season Wink). Thank you!

Ray, another great photo from your layout. YeahBow And that trolley looks good in the snow (maybe could use some green trim around the windows for the season...). Smile, Wink & Grin

TMarsh

Jim- Glad you weren't hurt. I do believe a prayer of thanks is in order this eve.

Actually, Todd, that already was done on Saturday evening (especially for the two little ones in the other car who were not injured!). Angel Sounds like your roads up there are, uh, interesting to drive on lately...Whistling Stay safe up there!

JR, I'm not sure but that all the damage may be to the (fiberglass or whatever they're using on cars nowadays) bumper. It has a sliver of something dark (fiber?) sticking out about a centimeter or so, so I at least want that cut/sanded down so nobody (like me next summer when I'm washing/drying the car) gets scratched/cut by it.

Inch, I bet Yazee'll be having a fun time this Christmas! Kids have about as much fun opening the presents as some of us adults do - even if we try to duct tape 'em down! Smile, Wink & Grin

CN Charlie, your Mum's funeral and reception sounds like it would make her proud. Angel for you and the rest of the family. Stay warm, with your weather - you definitely need that coat!

Ulrich, that sounds great about your plan being featured on Ahrent's website. I've been there a few times before, looking for ideas for myself. Thumbs Up Like the Cimarron design - it looks like "Olde West", great job (again). Keep yourself warm there!

CudaKen, the other driver said in the officer's presence that it was her fault, so I wouldn't expect that it would be hard for her insurance company to figure out...Whistling But I will see about picking up a copy of the accident report myself from the police station this week, just to be sure. Check out "Cajun Chef" Ryan's website; I think he may have some 3D Plan It tips and/or tutorials on there that would be helpful. Sounds like your new job will be a good one for you. Smile

Barry, with all those deals I hope you wore your mask! Laugh That was a bunch o'stuff for the money, all right. And will add "clear-enough" roads so you can get your defib. done tomorrow. Angel

Robby, glad you've been selling off those cars (as I expected you would, and the eBay prices were probably better, anyway). And that boxcar looks good great (as usual).Thumbs Up

Galaxy, for me that situation would be more like the company would say "We've discontinued that model, and the new one is (3X the price)"...Bang Head

Bama, good to see you again - how's the house (and layout) going? Are your girls looking forward to Christmas?

NE MRR'er, I think (from this morning's weatherguesser) that you need to head further south (like Miami or Key West) to get warm today! Surprise

DerJohn, you continue to amaze me with your ingenuity in that iNvisible scale! Bow

Lee - any chance of photos of your new scenicking? (Puleeze, please?) How's your Santa corner of the layout doing, by the way?

Think I'm gonna look for a small (portable) surge protector for my laptop. I have lately been having some flakiness on the screen when I use it at my local WiFi (but not at home) - some vertical dashed lines (maybe inch to inch-and-a-half apart), and the cursor has a thin vertical rectangle under it (about an inch tall or so). I'm suspecting that they are having some noise in the power plugs (under the bench seat where I'm sitting), THAT may be the source of the gremlins. I did some fiddling with changing the plug and/or going to battery only power last night, which seemed to help. Yep, a small surge to go between the outlet and the power cord...

I'll be at the RC a bit, enjoying my bagel.

Prayers and Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau (freezing mix predicted tomorrow night...)

Good morning people!

Zoe I'll have a breakfast bagel this morning to go along with a few cups of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug!  I'll be at the Rivet Counter.

Already spent an hour researching and trying to get a problem one of my NMRA Members is having with a newsletter subscription.....  Now I get to wait and see what those higher up than me have to say......???  We got just a dusting of Lake Effect Snow last night, but the temps are still down around 12°F and with the wind feel like -5°F...  Good day to stay home!  Unfortunately I also have a doctors appt. to go to.  Have to go get my ears cleaned out this afternoon.

Ken, very glad you had a good first day at the new job!  I hope this will work out for you and be an enjoyable way to pay for hobby expenses....Smile, Wink & Grin

Barry, I hope they have the roads cleared tomorrow so you can finally get the procedure done and over with.  Waiting for these things is usually much worse than the procedure itself!  You will be in my prayers.

Galaxy, just remember good choices come with experience.  THAT involves having made some bad choices! WinkWink

Best get a move on...

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of frozen Buckeyes on this frigid Tuesday morning.Modeling wise yesterday I worked on the undecorated RS1 shells.I had one frame that was warp but,it was easy to correct..Both shells came without horns but that's ok since I will be using BLMA's Nathan M3R1 horns.
No big plans for today..

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Have a good'un!  Thumbs Up

Morgan,

I noticed that too and wondered. Some of the local dump trucks route exhaust gas through the edges of the bed to keep the dump body from icing up - same thing here with the passenger steam routed through the hopper?   J.R>

Good cold morning!

I hav the pulmonologist today. IF we can get into the Kia. HTe silicone onthe door rubber did not help. WIll ahve to apply it liberally to the door seals perhaps that will keep them from freezing shut. Will ahve to wait for it to get warmer to do that though, I think. AMybe nto if we can;t get into the durn thing I can't drive it anywhere.

Boy I see a lot of newbies who just want to jump right in and get a train-any old train to "play" with. They don't get that a little reading first can save tehm headaches, heartaches and disappointments later on. AS much as i knew form having O-O/27 and N scale previously, I jumped into HO green and made a few mistakes and I did follow the forum for awile before I bought that first cheap set just to have something to run. AND I really didn't know what a DCC was and that I would want one!. I try to tell tehm to READ READ READ first, but they will do what tehy will...

Not much else, tired though.

HAve a  great day.

-G .

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good morning. It's 28° and clear. The high will be around 57° and it will be sunny to partly cloudy.

As I likely will NOT be going outside today (unless I have to) I'll Probably be scrapping up some old ballast on the layout in preparation of putting down a layer of wall joint compound to level those areas. I still have the list for my 2nd lot of HO items up. I need to get rid of as many of these items as I can. Tomorrow a 3rd lot will be added. It includes some vehicles (vans, cars), some Caterpillar equipment and of course some railroad cars. Lot 2 can be found HERE.

Good morning All,

21F and a light snow drifting down from on high. No wind yet so it's actually pleasent. Got some cars upgraded for the Horribly Oversized gift shop loops last night. Kaydees' and metal wheels (Intermountain which I get in bulk) nothing fancy or weathered, just trying to keep everything off the ground. The cars were mostly all old bluebox kits that have been donated over the years. Some had some funky sprung trucks THAT were falling to bits so I changed them out as well.

Lots to do again so I'm out to the shop to get started. What was that sound out back just now? Sounded like someone strangling cats - oh what that you say? Ray's giving guitar lessons in classic Spanish? Sounded like the inquisition there for a minute - but then (ta da) No-One Expects The Spanish Inquisition!   CUL, J.R.

Good Morning,

Due to high winds the snow didn’t accumulate much.  The back fence has an impressive snow drift and everything has about 6” of snow.

Last night I laid the base coat of gravel behind the dairy and fire station, maybe tonight I can build up the dividing shrubs and trees on the edge of the property.

Good morning from snowedinLondontown...

Wherein we could be seeing yet more snow than we already have...well, at least we don't need to go out in it today.

The fun will be tomorrow when we will, apparently, be seeing even MORE snowsqualls--and I got to go to the hospital to get my defibrillator put in me...if it don't get cancelled out first because of the snow---againBang HeadGrumpy

Oh well, today, I'm going to get some work done on the layout and see about getting some decorating done ...

Flo, I'll have coffee in an IV bag as well as a breakfast platter please--scrambled eggs and 3 slices each of the bacon, sausage and gravy on the fries ---I'll be at the RC for a bit...

Evenin Folks!

Flo just a nice hot cup of decaf for me.  I'll be sitting by the stove in the back......

Currently 12°F with a wind chill bringing it down to about -2°F outside here in the Finger Lakes Region.  This would be great winter camping weather I'd say.  Probably about time to put the shorts away for the season....  We are also under a Lake Effect Snow Warning for the next couple of days:

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM EST WEDNESDAY.

* LOCATIONS... SOUTH SHORE OF LAKE ONTARIO FROM ROCHESTER TO OSWEGO COUNTY. HEAVIEST FROM THE EASTERN SUBURBS OF ROCHESTER EAST TO OSWEGO COUNTY AND INTO NORTHERN ONTARIO COUNTY.

* TIMING... THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

* ACCUMULATIONS... STORM TOTALS OF 1 TO 2 FEET IN THE MOST PERSISTENT BANDS.

* WINDS... NORTHWEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH.

* VISIBILITIES... LESS THAN A QUARTER MILE AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS... PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL PRODUCE VERY DIFFICULT TRAVEL CONDITIONS AT TIMES.

Luckily I am at the Southern end of what the Warning is for and should not get too much of the fluffy white stuff here.

Whats that noise in the front....  What?  NERM is learnin' to play a what?  A Gutter?   Hey NERM!  Why don't you take up the Guitar instead?  They sound a lot better than Gutters.......  Oh!  THAT's what you are playing?  Must be the accent I guess.  I taught Guitar for about 20 years.  Taught mostly classical guitar...  You know the Segovia stuff.  Played THAT and a bit of Spanish Flamingo er Flamenco ......  Gotta get my axe out and practice one of these days!

Handmade Cordorba I bought a few years ago.  Mostly it has just sat in the case.  Need to check it it out soon and start playin' again.

Finally got all the wiring hooked up for the trackage on Bare Mountain (The site of the quarry).  Ran several different trains through each of the routes.  No problems in any of the new sections.  Only place there were derailments were places visited by the little furry creatures I eliminated earlier this Fall (mice).  They chewed a bit of the scenery in a couple spots and left hunks of greenery on the ROW.  Found them quickly as they derail the first cars behind the locos every time.  Got THAT taken care of and everything appears to be in good shape.  I will get the other parts of the layout cleaned up and hope to run some trains during the holidays.

Hope all you Southern Boys enjoy the gorgeous weather you have been having....Whistling  Oh and stay warm, OK?

Later!

Good wind-stormy evening to one and all (which over the last few hours isn't many it seems LOL) Janie,  double up that order of honey rum for Ulrich, and I'll pay for both.  We complain there is nothing on TV, then when we lose the signal (cloud cover too dense to let the satellite signal through) we complain there's no TV Bang Head That's the situation here tonight and we had to listen to the news on the radio!

Jeff:

There was even an obit in the paper!
....I hope it was favourable! Mischief That must have been a weird experience, as well as annoying because of the stoppage.

Ray: Love the caption for that card! (and the photo too, natch.)Thumbs Up

Garry:

John, perhaps you could wing it or we could air out our differances.
Laugh, Bring it on!!!
Der John ... You were talking about plubing problems and then a place called Sheet Harbor". I was afraid you were reacing for a dirty pun. I though "Don't go there!"
...Har Har! Actually Kris and her writing partner Pat made and sold a line of sweatshirts labeled for the (fictional) Sheet Harbour Institute of Technology! Sold quite well - but mainly to tourists....Whistling

CapeJim: Grand to see you back in. Sorry about the but at least you are able to drive the car (meaning both it and you survived! LOL Angel)  I'll reply to your email as you suggested, when I have the time.Sigh

JR:

Der - did the pooper scooper at least wear a mask - like the robbers in the olden days? And to add insult to injury you suspect he's keeping the GST, PST, LST and EST? Ouch.
....No, I don't think he'd do that, as, while he didn't give me a receipt;  when I phoned his wife she said she'd mail one out "He just gets talking!" was her comment! We have the HST here BTW, Harmonized Sale Tax, so your list is cut two ways. No LST or EST to begin with, and GST and PST are the HST. Tongue Tied

I heard from Ed today. He's starting over with his layout - has benchwork for a series of modules, and has bought flex track and some switches. When I reply I'll order up another tank car of his Orange juice.

Ulrich: Sorry about the sleep....while you have time in the day, can you catch up then? Kris says that she can't afford to go to bed in the daytime as she then doesn't sleep at night.

Carl hinted, that the plan will be featured in one of his Small Layout Scrapbook editions early next year! It´d be nice to catch a recognition like that!
...That would indeed be good!Bow Plan is looking good!

Ken: That is a much more encouraging start than it seemed 24-48 hours ago! Thumbs Up

Here's an interesting sports-related trivium.

The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974.That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.
LOL

I found a suitable packing to centre the optic fibre bundle in the signal head - a small length of Q Tip rod. It's inside diameter takes the bundle, and the OS nicely fits into the signal head.Yeah And the price is right! I've repainted the damage repair bits, and since NJI paints the entire signal silver, I've blackened the target and hood; and concreted the base! While that paint dries, I'll have a go at drilling out another LED so the bundle will fit in the end.  Clipper oil, I've discovered, makes an excellent transparent light-link between the LED casing and the fibres.  The individual fibres show as dots in the signal head, the way individual LEDs show in a traffic light. I'd say they mayeven be a mite under-scale as those fibres are really thin! There's too much pressure in the bent fibres to allow the face of the bundle to rest flush with the front of the signal head at the target. It sticks out a bit, but no biggie as the fibres are clear, don't leak light sideways, and so are virtually invisible. Here's the current situation. - That missing finial got to me (eventually) and so I've used a piece of clothing store price tag fixing stuff I've had waiting to become power line insulators or some such. Fills a space - that isn't a light at the top, just shiny wet paint!

Time has once more marched on - I'll say Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for al in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

[ The door opens, and the fridged winter air blows a big jumbled mess into  the RC, and up into a stool next to Ulrich]

ugh, Oh, Man, what have I missed?

Sorry I've been out for almost all of this year everyone. Lots of homework and having to winterize my house (including accomidations for my chickens and protecting my Mom's plants) have pretty much left me with very little time.

What happened to the sunny Florida wether? For the past 2 or 3 weeks strait, it has been below freezing all day. The forecast is calling for it to be in the teens tomorrow, I'm not looking foward to that....

SoapBoxNo need for the soapbox, I'm done complaining (for now...)

O.K., Let's see now, I got almost no clue what's been going on, so I'll need a few days to figure it all out. Here's what I know so far:

Ken- Congradulations on getting the jobCake THat's some interesting history on Ashley furniture, starting out through selling damaged freight and splitting the profits 50/50 with the railroad (Hmm, a model railroad industry, mabe...Huh?)

                                -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From what I understand, the dinner has been a ghost town for most of this week. I don't know. It may be due to the fact that everyone's running for a bunker for when I start drivin (Nope, I ain't got it yet. Every time I try to go and get my lerner's permit, something comes up and we gotta stay home)

O.K., then. Y'all can come out of the bunkers. I ain't drivin (yet). Don't forget,  grew up in the country, drivin a little of everything (from tractors to my cousin's mud-boggin truck) so I know how to drive without hitting anything. I just need that lerner's permit to make it legal for me to drive.

On my personal front, besides the homework, I'm going to be teaching myself how to play the gutar, so we'll be having some live gutar entertainment (Do you think that'll bring in more customers, Flo?) I'll take requests, as long as they're eather Country or WesternSmile

There was something else, but I can't remember. Oh well. I'll take a gallon of hot choclate, a cheeseburger, and a quarter for the jukebox, Flo. I'll be catching up now.

I'll try not to dissappear off the face of the Earth agian (I hopeIndifferent...)

Well I got the high points on the wall joint compound cut down and it looks like angles for the super elevation on the curves is right. Took about ten minutes to vacuum up the mess. Also got the information for my third list of stuff to get rid of together. There's some vehicles in this one. Things like vans, cars, Caterpillar equipment and there's a few freight cars as well. I'll post the link for the list Wednesday.

Good evening all, just checking in before I start my locomotive painting.  Just a RBF for me tonight, my wife cooked apple and herb glazed pork chops, mac and cheese and rice pilaf (yum yum) so I'm a little stuffed.  Not a whole lot happening tonight, heading for a possible record-setting low, 17 degrees, which I know isn't a drop in the bucket as compared to some of y'alls temps, but its pretty flipping cold for down here.  Got the heater running and keeping the house a comfy 68-72 degrees, so I'm not complaining, although at w*rk today it was a bear!  The wind was just insane and made it seem that much worse, but it'll be all right.

Ken, glad that your first day went well, and I'm kinda like you I'm either going to hate a job, or love it and show it by constantly performing in the upper echelons.

Well, I'm off to help the wife clean up after dinner, but then the kitchen table becomes the paint booth on my version of the CSX railroad!

Later taters!

 Hey Gang!

Flo, may I please have a Roast Beef sandwich medium rare, tender of rings and a Beer.

Well today at work was a odd day. Meet the 3 Phillips bothers that own Ashly Furniture today. Matt Phillips is all so the person that does all the training. Today was pretty disorganized and Matt seemed to drift in and out. It came to light that there father and founder of the company passed away this weekend so I understand.

Few things I was able to pick up is the company values Integrity above all. Sure the reason I was hired was when I told them why I left the VW Dealership. I would not lie to the customer to get the sale! Big Smile

Ashly Furniture and the the Railroads! Our company start is link with St Louis being a Railway Hub, how funny is that? The founding Phillips started the company by selling damaged freight from the railroads and splitting the selling prices 50 / 50 with the rail line.

Pay Was not explained clearly but, there worst salesperson made $24,800 this year, average pay is $37,800 and there top salesperson is $97,800. I have never been average, I either hate the job (VW) and stink or I am in the top 10% of the company. So I am starting to feel pretty good about this opportunity.

Well, I am tired as heck, not because of work that was easy. Just need to get my sleeping habits back in line. See you all Tuesday!

          Working again, Cuda Ken!

Yaw - I just woke up in time to bump this thread away from the danger zone of page 2!

Yoohoo? Anybody here?

Grumble, mumble - they must have been all commanded to fight the snow outside!

Janie, I´ll have a mug of hot mild, honey and rum, please. I´ll stay here at the RC and have a chat with, as no one else shows up!

This place is getting dangerously close to page 2. Time to bump it up.

Robby - I agree, the time to visit Germany and especially the part I live in, is late spring and summer, but not winter - too cold, too dark, just ugly. The last 4 hours brought us 4" of snow, which is a lot for my neck of the woods, but there is more to come. Not as bad as in Minnesota or Wisconsin these days!

Larry......Thanks for the comments.   I like this scheme also.   The problem is....I buy the cars but end up weathering them...and selling them Tongue Tied.

Ulrich...........I will have to take you up on that offer, but not in the winter months.  The way you talk, I just don't want to see more snow that what I have to deal with here Laugh.

Just dropping in for  a mug of hot cocoa - I feel cold. The last few Hours brought back the snow we lost in recent days! Shiverrrrr!

Ken - each CAD program has its own glitches and RTS has its share of those. But there is a learning curve to each one of them. You just have to take your time to explore the features. RTS works as well as all others, once you know how to employ it. It took me some time to learn - as you can see when you look at older plans I posted in the forum Whistling

I work only with my version of RTS and I am quite happy with what I can do with it.

Galaxy - Galaxy Bread Co. - not a bad idea. Galaxy bread - a galactic treat for the family!

Ray - BowBowBow for that picture!

Robby - I sincerely think you have to come over to my place, once I have my layout up and running. You need to do the weathering job on my locos and rolling stock ... Great pic again!

Maybe  I drop in a little later again!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have......  What?  Garry has ordered a double order of oatmeal for me?  Ah,  No thanks.  I used to like oatmeal, but THAT intestinal (bowel) thing kinda grossed me out.  maybe in a few days I will be able to look at a bowl of the stuff....  So, I think I will just have a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug please.

Ulrich, how nice to include some new stores in the plan!  I do hope Petra is applying to be chief baker!

Hmmm.  Galaxy try here or here.  both places carry most all of the filters ever made for those things.  Most "Big Box" dealers make much more selling you a new unit so they often don't even carry the replacements for the ones they are selling now....  Another reason I avoid those shiesters every chance I get.

Thank you to those who commented on the RR scene from my layout.  I have just had to send a bunch more photos to the region for the Civil Certificate.  Should know if everything is now in order for it soon.

Best get moving, as I have some outdoor stuff to do before the sn*w arrives this afternoon.

Later!

Robby,Nice weathering on a beautiful car.I have 4 of those cars 2 in HO and 2 in  N.I really like that scheme.

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then the wind chill is 4 to 6 below with a winter weather advisory and I already toss another log on the fire in which I will hunker down by..No modeling yesterday and no great plans for today.

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Have a good 'un!

Well its almost lunch time, so give me a cheeseburger, onion rings, and a sweet  tea.

Got a packaged mailed out this morning.  I thought the roads would be bad, but not yet.  The road crew is actually doing good.   BUT.......They keep going by spreading salt.  Nothing on the roads!!  I understand its to keep things from freezing, but EVERY year they run out of salt.   Then they are begging the state for some!!

Garry......Here's one I was working on.
