Evenin'

Flo, just one for the road.....  Ah, one coffee that is!

Heading out to my son's house in a few minutes to celebrate the end of 2010 and the start of 2011.  I promise I will stay sober!  They usually like to have a check point right on the main road I take to get to and come home from my son's house.....

Might have about half a glass of bubbly at the proper time.........

Happy New Year to each of you!  may it be filled with trains!

Just dropping in to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. The wife and I will be spending the evening with our friends who live next door. No need for a designated driver for us. We will spend a couple of hours with them and then return home well before that magical moment. So a nice evening with good friends, good wine and good refreshments. Can't think of a better way to send this year on its way.

This is going to be my last post this year - promised Whistling

It is closing in on 10 pm. but Petra and I are so tired we have decided to call it a day. The new year will come without us staying awake to greet it. The young folks have disassembled and gone some other place to play whatever role playing game, so we don´t have to entertain them - good!

I hope you all are going to have a good time tonight!

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne* ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp !
and surely I’ll be mine !
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We twa hae run about the braes,
and pu’d the gowans fine ;
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit,
sin auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We twa hae paidl’d i' the burn,
frae morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
sin auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere !
and gie's a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught,
for auld lang syne.

Funny Jeff. And the nerve of you intruding on her planetCrying. Hope justice gets served. Usually the bad parking  job comes with a large ding in your door as well.

Doing a bit of tidy up in the office before heading out. I'll just have a hot tea with milk and some crackers to go with it please. No not saltines - I had more in mind some butter cookies - crackers in the mother tongue.

Not planning anything tonight might even stay up to see the new year in if I can.   J.R.

Paid some bills online this morning (those that could be) then went to town and paid a couple more. Went by the New Llano post office to send off some packages then went to Wal-Mart to get some grocery shopping and get some gauze pads and bandages for my ankle and two bottles of 91% alcohol for the paint stripping tray outside. Also picked up a bottle of cheap Boone's Farm strawberry daiquiri for tonight. Upon coming out of Wal-Mart I went to where my van was parked to find a small car (I've seen Yugos that were bigger) parked close beside it on the right side on MY side of the yellow line. Guess what side the cargo doors are on?I could maneuver the shopping cart between the two vehicles and I could get the forward most cargo door open easily. The carts handle however was going to catch on the side view mirror of the little car so I left it where it was. It just meant a couple of steps either way. So I started loading my stuff into the van when lo and behold the owner of the little car appears from around the back of the van with a phone on her ear and the first thing I hear from her is a scream "AAgghh! You're going to rip my mirror off!!". Then she yells to the person on the phone that this big guy in a huge van (I guess to her it was huge as it looked like the Titanic sitting next to the Carpathia) was going to back out and rip the side off her car. I just calmly pushed the cart out of the way and let her get to her car but not before she hurled a few insults about big Indians who don't know how to drive. Who was illegally parked here? I do believe it was her since her car was sitting OVER the parking area divider. I didn't say a word or do anything. I just stood there and let her get in her car while she continued to come up with more uncomplimentary things to say. By now I was royally ticked off but I didn't say a word or even look at her when what I really wanted to do was to fold that car up like a sandwich and feed it to her. She started her little car and backed out without even looking to see if anything or anyone was behind her (a big Dodge dually bigger than my van, and she almost nailed it) then took off like it was the Indy 500 time trials. Didn't she say I was the bad driver for being LEGALLY parked? She needs her license yanked! Funny thing though, the driver of the Dodge dually is a reserve cop. He called her plate in after he pulled into the spot she had just vacated. I chuckled all the way home!

After Noon folks and batten down the hatches!  LightningLightning  LightningLightning  LightningLightning  LightningLightning

Tornado's heading are way! We our under a watch, and lets hope that is all we get! I have the door open so I can listen and the radio on.

Job Front Interview went pretty darn good, lasted 1.5 hours. Another candidate came in while I was still talking with the owner. She walked up and said her name then "I love to sell mattress". Owner said "good thing we have mattress and it be a few minutes". After she left us he said "I am going to pass her over to the manager". Whistling   She all so worked at Ashely Furniture, so it looks like they are laying off other people as well.

Over all I think things look pretty good. At one point I asked him "when would you like me to start"? Good salesman all wise try to close the deal! Big Smile  Said he needs to think about where I would fit in then asked me if I would float between stores. Said I would prefer not to, but I would do what I had to do till I got a store. At parting he said I would hear from him Monday!

Strange Train Illness? For some odd reason I cannot keep any of the cabooses on any of the trains? Last few days 4 different trains have lost 4 different cabooses on 3 different main lines? I know what to check, coupler height and wheel gauge, but seems odd that they would all go out of whack in a 2 day span?

Todd One of the things that throws me off and will take time is Tab seems to be written up side down to me. I keep thinking the high E is the Low E. That explains with the Blues Scale I Printed out sounds bad. I will see if I can find a lead riff and print it out.

LightningLightningLightning Just had a thunderclap that sounded like In Coming.

Think it about over, so time for a nap.

Hey guys,

I agree with Johnboy. If you are going to celebrate the New Year, please do it responsibly.

Moving the diner to the gulf would be nice. Maybe in Jeff's neck of the woods.

Not much to report from me. Just listening to Status Quo during a little break from getting ready for New Years eve. Having a few friends over and having some fun. In case I don't make it back in, Happy New Year folks.

I'm on the side. Bye bye

Whistling

Just a quick stop this week as I didn't want to miss wishing you all a verry

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND MAY 2011 be all that you would have it be in all areas, HEALTH, PROSPERITY, JOB SECURITY, RETIREMENT, LOVE, TRAVEL and of course MODEL RAILROADING.

I want you all to know how much I appreciate your friendship, helpful comments and answers to questions and sharing of our life struggles with each other.  It is therapeutic I believe for all of us.  Even Tipton Bill that doesn't say too much, but always checks in.   You are indeed a great bunch of fellows and some Gals as well.

If I could have one wish, it would be that we could have a reunion, (in a warmer clime than here today   Paradise ) wouldn't that be great ?

If you are going to have a little schnapps Beer  this evening, may I suggest doing it at home or arranging for a designated driver.  Want you all back for the New Year.

Happy New Years.

Where will I find the diner in January? Gulf Coast would be nice.

We're about to leave Michigan. Not the best trip this time. Shelley and I were zombies due to flu and colds. Cancelled just about all our plans. Yesterday, our grandson here had surgery and it went well.

About to leave for Cincinnati for the weekend.

I will read your posts better when we get home.

I have some photos in my photobucket account for WPF.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, lots of coffee (Todd, it usually comes out cofee for me....) and a bowl of hot cream of wheat w/ brown sugar for me today.

A very pleasant last day of 2010 to each of you and may 2011 be a better year as well.

Speaking of prescriptions, I gotta get myself down to the drug store and pick up one for a small tube of stuff for my psoriasis.  Co-pay will be a lot more tomorrow and the stuff is now costing over $500 (retail).......

Best get moving.

Later!

Jeff - ok so how do you superglue the coupler covers without getting it on the coupler? Last few times i've tried I ended up with solid pivots. Even using a toothpick to apply the superglue didn't do. It wicked right into the center.

I turn the car on it's side and apply a small amount of the super glue to the lower-most seam on the coupler box cover. Gravity keeps it out of the box. When it's dry I turn the car up on it's opposite side and do the other seam.

I was quite sure the car was made by AHM. I had one in Milwaukee Road paint when I was a kid. I went to an AHM site and guess what I found! Scroll down to #5299-E.

Good Morning! Biscuits and gravy please. Thank you. You know every time I type the word coffee, (except just then) it comes out coffe at first.

Looks like a good portion of us were restless last night. Me too.

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 63. Breezy, with a south wind between 18 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9pm, then a chance of showers between 9pm and midnight. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 25.

Almost like spring. Except for that 25 degrees thing.

Ahem- It’s ONE glass of wine fellas. ONE. Don’t know if it’s the alcohol content or the taste that has them limit it to one. HEY! Here’s a thought. Prescriptions! Insurance, Medicare…. See where I’m going with this? Oh yeah. It would be the same problem as with the prescription snow blower of last year. “Over the counter”.

Ken- Great news about the job. Good luck this morning. Actually, if you understand the tab you linked too, you should understand tab. Lead is no different. Like music notes on a staff, a note is a note and it doesn’t make a difference if it’s lead or backup. Usually with lead there are just more individual notes played. Assuming that’s the type of lead are referring to. It usually is.  Best way I can think to show how it works is, play a scale, any scale. For each note you strike, write the fret number you pressed on the corresponding string you struck. Bottom string on the tab is the top string on the guitar, or the low E. (or whatever you may have it tuned too of course.) Do not stack the numbers, but place them after each other just like you’d write 1 2 3 4, except every couple of numbers or so will stair step up the scale. Now go back and play those numbers as you just did to make the tab and you’ll see how it works. Again, like I said the problem I have with it is, in most sites the actual music is not included. Therefore you do not know when to rest, hold, the count of the note etc. There are certain symbols that are used with professionally written tabs, but I don’t see them much on the free tab sites.

Welp, I’ve run out of year to get all done that needs to be done. Again. Looks like yet another unfinished project. I'm hope to maybe today I’ll get in the train room and work a bit more on the bench work addition. Hopefully.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

It is past 4 pm on this side of the Big Pond and it is slowly getting dark. The count down has begun...

Today´s the first "warm" day since the end of November. It is 36 F outside and snow and ice are melting away rapidly. I hope it stays for a few days, so road conditions improve in the new year.

Health & prosperity to all of you!

Good morning All,

26F outside and fully overcast i.e. grey skies. Back in the shop this morning to do some year end paperw..k and get ready for next week when we need to hit the ground running. I do plan on spending at least another day in the basement getting ready to put up wall covering - just haven't decided whether it'll be sheetrock or hard board yet. The hardboard is easier to handle and put up, the sheetrock is easier to tape and sand and takes paint better. Which leads to the next conumdrum - to paint or buy a backdrop? add to the equation the fact that I'm best at painting runs and drips and you have the picture.

Jeff - ok so how do you superglue the coupler covers without getting it on the coupler? Last few times i've tried I ended up with solid pivots. Even using a toothpick to apply the superglue didn't do. It wicked right into the center.

Catch y'all later, J.R.

Good morning. It's 69° and cloudy. The high will be around 71° and there's a 60% chance of strong thunderstorms.

I spent some time this morning working on this old trainset gondola. I can't find a manufacturers name on it but I suspect that it was made by AHM or Life-Like.

The work involved getting it properly weighted without the weight showing and converting it from truck mounted couplers to body mounted couplers. It would have been far easier to just slip knuckle couplers into the truck mounted coupler boxes but where's the fun in that. I had to find something to use as a shim between the car body and the coupler boxes. A couple of Bachmann coupler pocket covers worked quite well for this. So after some grinding work with the Dremel and the application of some super glue (got more on my fingers than I did on the car) I got the coupler boxes mounted. After the glue was dry I installed a knuckle coupler in each box and put on the cover and secured each cover with a couple of drops of super glue being careful not to get it in the coupler boxes. After nearly thirty minutes of work I rechecked the coupler height just to be sure. It's right on the mark. The car body has a tendency to rock, a typical problem with snap in trucks. Maybe someday I'll convert it to screw mounted trucks but I can safely say that it won't be THIS year.

Good morning and Happy New Year’s Eve!

I went to pay my final respects to Dean Freytag last night.

I’m heading out to buy a mattress for the impending visit of my daughter and her new boyfriend this week.  Actually I’m going to replace my mattress and provide my old one to the guest bedroom.  No sense in having a $300 mattress and not using it every day.

I hope to replace all the turnouts in Fox Creek Jct this afternoon and take a bunch of pictures of the layout to finish off my 2010 construction album on my web site.

 Good morning.

Well it looks like we have the same weather as Barry.   50 degrees, and rain.  I guess that's better than snow.

Not much planned for me today.  Fool around in the basement some, and see what needs done around the house.

 Have a good morning.

 Morning Folks!

Yawn, see what you started Ulrich! Flo, big mug of Coffee with cream and sweet and low please.

I did not sleep worth a darn last night, I wonder why? Kept dream about the coming job interview and what I will say.  Sure hope I don't blow it, but I normally do pretty good in faces to faces interviews.

They are opening the new store in February, I am guessing so they can cash in on President Day sale, with tax refunds it is a big Bedding day. So I have that going for me, I will be able to hit the floor running. Just need to brush up on some of there bedding specks.

Well, I am out of things to say right now and need to hit Mattress Solutions Web site again be for the interview.

 Talk at you all later!

 Wish me luck, Ken
