Hey, I found it.

First, I have to apologize for going MIA last month. School got (and still is) super hectic, and my homework load had knocked out any possibility of me responding (untill now...) but I've sort have been in and out of here, keeping an eye open on what's going on (sort of)

From last month....

Ken- Congradulations on the good interview, and I whish you luck for getting the job.

Ernie C.- If it's 3 below in Arizona, I got a feeling it's going to be a repeat of last year's winter.

[I remember that winter. It got to something around 10 below where I am here in North Florida, and it snowed in MiamiIndifferent ]

What's been goin on for me, over the last month...- Besides homework, not a whole  lot. Just some whishful dreaming of getting my CB radio into my pick-up truck eventually, and continuing on my family's tradition of decorating the Christmas tree (First live tree in years) and puting lights up in the yard.

Tomorrow, I'm taking my driving test to get a lerner's permit.

Whish me luck.

Hey, we moved.

North Eastern- I'm hopefully getting a CB from a friend of mine, it's just the CB. No mike and no whips. I'll let you know how that goes. Those things aren't cheap.

Well, I found out one of my off-roading buddies rolled his daily driver blazer. Thing was sweet. 4 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift. The engine was a worn chevy 305, but still moved pretty good. He was ok and the cops stayed home. His stepdad helped right it.

If you can read this... thank a teacher. If you are reading this in english... thank a veteran

When in doubt. grab a hammer.

If it moves and isn't supposed to, get a hammer

If it doesn't move and is supposed to, get a hammer

If it's broken, get a hammer

If it can't be fixed with a hammer... DUCK TAPE!

WELL WELL WELL!

The diner got moved a bit earlyTime! Ulrich beat me to it, and everyone thought I was early moving it last month at 9 pm! I'll bet he stayed up just to beat me to it...but I see he didn't polish it up like I did!

*sniff*  But,,, but,,,,I ,,,thought we were going someplace for a .Music Whistling... white Christmas, just like the ones I used to know...Music Whistling- I know, already, stop badgering me, I can't sing! ANd I'm not Bing Crosby either, I know!

and RAY wanted to go skiing too!Confused

Oh, well the Mountains of this here Californy place are not far I guess, we can go up there for snow and skiing... I know, I know, I saw all the votes for Californy.

I haven't been in in a couple of days, anybody miss me? Probably not.

Cuda Ken said previously: "...Down side is base is only $10.00 a hour..." I dunno, Ken around these parts $10.00 is pretty darn good and you get to earn commision on top to boot! Here, many people would not complain about getting $10.00/hour and $12.00-$14.00 is golden here! MOH {My Other Half} would love to make even $8.00/ hour right now...especially working in the bakery now...

Ray said previously: "...as long as they don't serve only THAT woosey Cafe Lattedum chocolate creme Vanilla crisp coffee substitute stuff!  Gotta have REAL Coffee ya know!..."  I agree,,, and that funky slimy vegetarian "food" as they call it...gotta have real food here in the diner!! A real man's meal!!

Jeffrey said previously:"...While digging through the boxes of stuff under the layout I came across ...There's still more stuff to go through..." Isn't it amazing what we can pack away and forget about? I have one closet I neatly packed full in those plastic storage bins all kinds of shtuff {not trains} when I came here 10 years ago to be with MOH {My Other Half} and I haven't a clue what is in them anymore. I'll bet I would be surprised at what I find. Maybe this summer I get around to the yard sale if my back holds out and I could probably sell 98% of whatever is in there. There is one bin of old Medical and other documents I could go through, condense and shred the rest....  ANything else I have even seen in 8 years,,, so why bohter keeping any of it? I can use the space for storing trains!Stick out tongue

WELL, finally found out what is wrong with the Kia Sedona minivan bucking on us....It's the engine motor mount bushings are deteriorating and failing!!! So it bucks when the engine changes gears and torques differently. The 92 Taurus had one motor mount right up front top center that did the same thing periodically. The Kia will be fixed under warrantee of course...but not looking forward to replacing motor mounts every 50K miles or less in the future....

They also did a "service advisory repair"...not that is a "service advisory repair", NOT a "recall"! on the latches on the two rear sliding doors. Seems they have a habit of realeasing and the doors opening while you are driving down the road! And that doesn't warrant a "recall"??? A "service advisory repair" is something they will do for free only IF you bring the vehicle in for repair- a recall entails mailing out letters advising of a recall and replacing ALL of the failing doorlatches on ALL of the Sedonas....makes me wonder! DOes it make you wonder? I mean if the doors come unlatched going down the road!!! I think that should result in a recall. The service advisor said he has had hysterical mothers coming in screaming the doors opened and there's her kids looking down  at the road as they travel down the hiway. TG for seatbelts! Hysterical? I should say so!

WEll, it's getting late now. I have bored anyone reading this to tears by now...

{galaxy sulks over to rivet counter to start polishing it... out of the way vinnie....please vinnie....i said puleeze...}

I've found some more items. An Athearn 34' hopper, 2 Bachmann EZ-Command control stations with power supplies, A couple of handfuls of small trees, several small bags of utility poles, some more cars and trucks, another Bachmann trainset power supply and an Athearn power pack still wrapped in it's bubble wrap, never used. There's still a big plastic container and some smaller boxes to go through. I know already what's in 2 of the boxes. Lead rooftop vent pipes. I got them to cut up for use as weight for train cars and never got around to it. I also found 3 boxes of plaster, a box of talus, a latex rock mold and a big box of craft sticks.

Evenin' people....

New location.....  Ya know if they had to move it this far West, they could have at least found someplace warmer than NYS right now....  Here in the Finger Lakes it is 54°F...  Here in this, ah, where is it again?  Oh. SecretMemo, it is currently 48°F....  And no snow anywhere!  Sure hope they still serve coffee here.

Flo can I possibly get a plain old cup of decaf coffee?  No, no Hazelnut supreme, and No I don't want an expresso latte domino....  just a decaf....  Oh you can.  Wonderful my evening is looking up.  I'll be in the back by the woodstove.  What?  We can't light it this month because it causes cancer in Clownafornia?  So how are we going to keep warm?  Using Kerosine...  Oh that sounds much safer........ (Shakes head...)

Galaxy...  Drilling 3 wells tonight?  Just lost in thought I guess.  Hey! I grew up driving 4 ton axle trucks THAT my Dad had taken the doors off so we could in and out easier....  No seatbelts in those 1934 jalopies either. ..............WhistlingSigh

Oh, here is my coffee.  Flo did they have to put the warning about drinking non-cafinated coffee right on top of the FGLK Logo?  Oh UP requires THAT anywhere in their service area......  I guess they don't like competition, huh? Grumpy

Got a bit more done, well actually a good amount done, on the quarry tonight.  The added rock walls have all been painted to look like......  yep!  Rock!  I shaped some foam to look like piles of crushed stone for under the ends of the conveyors THAT are supposed to look like they convey the crushed stone and dump it in big piles.......  Then I painted them to look like..... Stone!  Probably likes a bit like rock as well.

Hmmm.  Wonder If I dare drink that liquid in the cup THAT used to say FGLK on it...

Guess I should get back home to the Finger Lakes so I can get warm (and away from the kerosine smell....)  48°???

Later!

Good Evening from Winterpeg!

Say it sure is nice here in California, far nicer than home where it is going down to 2F tonight and up to 9F tomorrow with an nice strong north wind, Oh joy.

I've been adsent as our computer died nearly a month ago and it has taken a fair while to get it fixed. It is a 3 year old laptop so we decided it was worth it to replace the hard drive which took 2 weeks to arrive at the shop.  In the end we spent $280 on it once the operating system was reloaded.

Lots of birthdays this past month so belated best wishes to Johnboy, Jerry and Ray. Oh and myself too as mine is the same day as Johnboy.

Not much happening on the RR front as have been busy getting Mum settled in a care facility. After 3 months in the hospital they said they couldn't do anything more for her so out the door she went last week as soon as they heard we had found a place for her. Along with my sister we are slowly getting her apartment cleaned out. Amazing how much stuff she managed to get in there but we have to get a move on as all must be cleaned out by the end of December.

Hopefully I can get back to the Woodland Scenics Creamery I'm building. I've got the walls and roof painted but that is about it. I hope to run a few trains too.

Ken, good luck with the job hunt. Sounds like you had a great interview.

Ulrich, I like that track plan you've done for Ken but if it were mine I'd do a link to the other line just before it goes down to staging so a train could go around the circuit without having to go through staging.

Say as we're in California, close to wine country, I bet we could persuade Chloe  stock a few nice vintages. I could sure go for a large glass of Merlot right now with a large chunk of french bread.

I'm absolutely tired out again today so it is time to say goodnight.

Coffee. Please. Black. No cream, no sugar, no nothing. Just coffee. That’s the way I like it.

I can’t feel my finger tips. Must find someplace warm for them. Ah, my nose. Currently we are experiencing sn*w flurries.

Well, Guess we didn’t have any trouble with the mountains with THAT bad boy doing the tugging!

Jeff- Do they still serve that Chickory coffee? That’ll open your eyes.Indifferent

Charlie- I’m sorry to hear about your Mom. Doctor told my Mom yesterday she could no longer live alone. She will be moving in with us. She’s not Nursing ome, aka Stalag, material yet. I know how much you can cram into a small apartment. Mine has maxed it out. Happy late Birthday too!

Well best drink my coffee and head to bed. Mom gets out of the horse piddle tomorrow and I have to bring her here.

(sip) Ick!What’s this? SOY coffee! Is this the way it’s gonna be all month?

PFTIN

Garry, the first half that I have started will remain the same. I'm happy with that plan with a tiny alteration I will make. It’s the second half that I may change. If you recall, I found a plan in an issue of MR that I am using. The second half, actually a second room in the original, was not exactly what I wanted and I already had some changes in mind, but with all this talk and drawings, listening to Ulrich, I’m beginning to think a bit less trackage would be the way to go. Just found the Jan issue on the kitchen table tonight. I shall run right now and check. Great! That’s fantastic! I'm not sure I've seen that section before. Maybe just not as tight of shot. Reeeeally good job photographing tooYes

Good Morning Folks,

the new location has been found by some, not all, of us - good to know. I left a trace of bread crumbs leading from the old place to here, but I guess they have been eaten by the snowbirds by now.

Janie, a big mug of plain coffee, please!

As Petra is gone to do some more teaching (earns her $ 22.50/hr.), I took the time to finish the track plan. I don´t like having semi-finished files on my `puter... Whistling

Just for those, who keep track of my track plan doings, here it is:

Now if I were a rich man ...

Have a good day!

Edit: I sent the plan to my Swiss friend and now he wants me to adapt this concept to his layout. His room is much smaller than Ken´s, but I think that it can be done - lotsa work ahead of me, I should start to charge some money for my own layout for it Smile, Wink & Grin

Good morning.  I see we moved, and its much warmer.

I still don't feel good from yesterday, so I will probably take the day easy.    Its suppose to snow flurry all day, so I will just stay in.

Maybe later see what I can do in the basement, and work on a few cars.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

Morning all!

Well this Californy place ain't so bad, I guess.

WHat's that? Oh..It's "CALiforn-EYE-AY?

$4.00 for a bottle of water? Expensive here too.... and artificial vegetable stuff is expensive too. I don;t care if it's posta b good for you or not!

Posta get colder here in NY, much colder. Yep, colder. Definitely colder. Cold is a'comin'.

WEll Toyota issued one of them "service advisories" too I see. And NOT a "recall". It's for the Prius {groan} again and this time if air is in the cooling system it can overheat and burn out the dryer{?}. Seems like manufacturers of cars are now doing "service advisories" to avoid the massive expense of a "recall".....Cheap way out it seems. It also seems Toyota also requires you to have your vehicle serviced at least once every 2 yrs at a Toyota dealer to catch the expring "Service Advisories" fixed for FREE or else it COST you to have it repaired!!!! Yep. cheap way out. If you got a Prius, take 'er in to get 'er fixed, Just don't call it a "recall"!

Did i mention it's going to get colder here in NY? Yep colder. Much colder. Definitely colder. COld is a'comin'.

Raining cats and dogs and mice and men here in NY now...posta have some flooding comin' along too....just what we need and right before a cold snap...

Did i mention it's going to get colder here in NY? Yep colder. Much colder. Definitely colder. COld is a'comin'.

WEll, I suppose I shouLd close out now , nobody reads these things anyway...

Good morning. It's 29 and sunny. The high will be 61. Tonight's expected low is 33.

Today I expect to sort through a large plastic container and several boxes under the layout. No telling what I'll find. But first I have to get into town to get some gas and groceries not to mention getting some bills paid.

Good morning! Coffee please. Say, now that I think of it, could you slide some of that Chickory coffee here? It could prove to be a long day.

Partly sunny, with a high near 33. West wind between 9 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph

Not much happened after I went to sleep last night other than I woke up so I'll be a bit brief this morning.

Galaxy, my cold man- Actually manufacturers have been doing those things for years. As long as I can remember. If there was something wrong with your vehicle that was not safety that is to say will endanger a life, they are not required to issue a "Safety recall". If it is just a defect and it does not cause injury or death, they just issue service advisories to the dealerships and if you bring your vehicle to them for service, they will repair for free. Ran into that last with a New Yorker Brenda had. Air conditioner condensor leak. On that though they just moved the waranty expiration to 80,000 I think because condensors can fail naturally due to many things. First time I ran into the Service bulletins, was back in about '81 or 2. A buddy had a "76 or 77ishDodge Aspen R/T and the ffront right fender was rusting. Well he knew a guy that was the body man at the Dodge dealership so he took the car there. Found out it was covered.  Anywho, not a new thing and not specific to any manufacturer. Their argument is, these issues may or may not exicet in all vehicles, but they do acknowledge it is the manufacturers defect if it does and will repair. However, they do not want every person with a whatever to come running in to see if they have a fender that will rust. Many times there is no way of telling until it happens so, if it does, bring it in and we'll fix it. Now if they deem the steering box will explode, then they will issue a recall. That's a bit more dangerous.

Oh well, best get moving before Mom calls and my day comes to a halt.

Have a Great Day !

Good morning ...

Briefly, we're leaving very shortly to drive to Nashville airport. Then we are flying to AZ Cactus Country for a week.

Looks like the diner was on a circuitous route. In the steam era, UP was not in either AZ or Sacremento, CA. SP proovide single line service. Alternatively, the route would be ATSF-Oakland-WP.

UP? ...Hmmm .... I guess it would be ATSF-Denver-UP-Salt Lake City-SP... Then you could have a Big Boy over Sherman Hill and an SP Cab Forward over Donner pass. Perhaps, ATSF would have started things off one of their classy 4-8-4's.

Todd ..... Glad you saw the picture in Trackside photos and thanks for the remark.  Thanks again to Ulrich for his comment.

CN Charilie .... I was beginning to wonder where you were. I hope things work out OK with "Mum".

I trust the regular diners will keep matters under control. Perhaps, someone will put up stars so I can find the place upon returning. Give Duke a nudge occasionally.

Cheers. .

In the Case of the KIA I would say a latch on a sliding door that can release while travelling down the road at hiway speeds {or greater in some cases with some id-jets} Could certainly have the POTENTIAL to cause death if the rear passengers are stupid enough to NOT be seatbelted in! No wonder mothers show up at the dealer HYSTERICAL over it.

AS far as the Toyota... thank CNN news and RObin Meade for pointing it out and that it is NOT a "recall".

Did I mention it's going to get cold here? COld is a' comin'. definitely cold. Cold brisk day tomorrow and Friday!

Right now we got flood warnings for the areas of the Susquehanna, Tioughnioga, CHenango Rivers where they typically flood. IS still raining cats and dogs and mice and men here. And getting blustery.

The MIL has been moved to a nursing home. One of the worst in the county. Last night teh FIL complained there were only 3 nurses to take care of 33 patients on the floor at 7:30 pm. He's gonna see about getting her in another nursing home, and if nto take her home. If she goes home though, she's not likely to get out of bed nor eat nor keep hydrated without some help/prodding. I think she is beginning to give up on life.MOH {My Other Half} is worried she will pass at holiday time and doesn't want that. But it is not up to MOH, it is more up to MIL if she refuses to eat/drink. SHe is already undernourished because "nobody can make me eat" she says. PRayers Please.Angel

Mornin' everyone!

Yes I know I am tracking in mud this morning!  Had well over an inch of rain last night and now are supposed to get 2" of "partly Cloudy (white variety) by mid afternoon.  Of course I had to go through lots of mud to get here!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes, side order of bacon, and a cup of dark roast coffee.  Huh? no I don't want to try the Vanilla Hazelnut supreme expresso.....  Sheesh!  OK, THAT smile tells me you were just kidding...  Don't do THAT to me this early in the morning.  Oh bring over the pure Maple Syrup too!

Sir Madog

Garry - only because UP owned the Big Boy pulling the Diner. They negotiated temporary trackage rights with BNSF!

Ah, were are on the BNSF....  OK, then why was there the warning on my FGLK Mug last nig...  Oh, I see THAT has been removed this morning.......  Huh?Sigh  Any other little jokes awaiting me???

So Galaxy, is it by any chance cold and wet where you are?  My prayers to you and your family.  It sounds very much like the MIL has given up on this world and is ready to be in the next.  I do hope you can find a better Nursing Home to move her to.  A good one can really be a blessing with all this and help make it comfortable for her.  My FIL did the same thing.  Just quit eating and drinking.  Said he wanted to be his wife again.

Ken, I think the last plan from Ulrich is a keeper.  Hope you get the job and can start building!

Wet and cold to the north of Galaxy this morning.  Currently 35°F here in the Finger Lakes, and going down into the 20's this evening.  But since I've no place to go.... "Let it Snow. Let it Snow, Let it Snow...."

Later!

Ok now the snow is falling a little harder than just flurries, I’m going to forward this weather on to the Finger Lakes. Jeff, sounds like you are making a bunch of progress in that closet. Soon you’ll have room for more stuff.

Ken - Did you get the private message I sent you last Sunday? IN the new system here, they call it a "conversation". One "expert" I asked said you would get an e-mail notification - bet you didn't Huh?, Anyways, go to your profile, and click on Conversations on the right menu and you will find it.

just a short stopover before I retire to our sofa for the rest of the day.

Chloe, I´ll have a nice glass of California Cabernet Sauvignon an give one to Ray as well, if he likes! Thank you.

Ray - I am glad you like my little track plan - gives a boost to my otherwise not really inflated ego Thumbs Up

Just measured the mainline run - it´s a mere 126 ft, well times two, which makes it 252 ft. Smile

A good evening to all of you!

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, getting a late start today after a long yesterday. I had an interview with "Officer Obie," the Chief of the North Liberty PO-Leese Department, in the afternoon. THAT Editor wants me to do some kind of an article on "use of force" and tasers due to some well-publicized incidents in the past year. So...........maybe I'll title it "Taser Tales" or "Talkin' Tasers." Don't know. It was a good, very interesting conversation however. Then had a lengthy gap to kill time in before girls high school basketball at my beloved Clear Creek Amana. Finally dragged my butt back into the house well after 10 pm and found the Diner had moved on down the line.

Cal-EEEEEEE-Four-Knee-Ahhhhhhhh. OK...w**ks for me. Has any provision been made, should the state break off and become an island this month, for getting the Diner back to the mainland???? I'll be sure to park my '53 fire engine out back for wildfire protection...

I stumbled across this little video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2umTTPFfiiY

It's yet another variation of Adolph with the funny little mustache "losing it." This time, he finds out his model RR club has gone to DCC. The (English) language is a bit...colorful...but in subtitles. RAY, you probably won't want to show this to your granddaughters...

Time just for a quick cup of coffee....black...no flavorings, no additions, just coffee hot out of the pot. Then, will be time to process basketball photos, do the game write-up, tackle the taser story...and see whatever else I can get into yet today.

Have a good, SAFE rest of the day peoples...

 Just a quick stop.

Still snow flurrying but I made it to Lowes for some more wood for the layout.

The middle table is a 4x8, which I think will work out real good.  The new table I just added is 4x6, and the rest of the table top is 2 feet wide.  The layout was going to be a switching layout but I will make it a BIG dog bone.     Plenty of switching, and running.

I still have to add some braces, and paint the legs black.   I still want to add the back drop soon.   Its a pretty big layout.   Probably my biggest one yet, and hopefully this one will last me awhile!!!!!!
