Evening Gang: Yesterday at this time it was in the upper 50s and light jacket weather. Tonight its in the low 30s and snowing. The graound is covered and if things keep on tonight it will be pretty in the morning. Tomorrow it's supposed to get to the 60s again so it won't stay white long. Boy this up and down is getting old.

I didn't get to the MRRing today. I did get my ORF nape requirement taken care of. I also fixed another problem with the low voltage switching system for the lights in the house. I guess I pulled a wire splice in two when I was working on the system the other day. Back when I installed this system I didn't have " jelly beans " to make the splices with.

I guess I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

Evening all -

Currently, it is a balmy 55 degrees out w/ winds @ 22, gusting to 35. Even better is that We're under a Winter Storm Warning from 5am till 10pm tomorrow. Suppose to start raining here after midnight, then change to snow by 7am and be snow and sleet w/ 4-8 expected by 5pm. Snow and Sleet will mix with freezing rain, and then change to a mix of freezing rain and sleet around 4pm. Sometime after midnight tomorrow, it's suppose to change back over to rain! Welll all I can say now is... this is what happens in March!

On a better note, I did see my 1st spring robin this morning when I was out for my jog.

Rob (Cedarstand - sp?) Got the package today. Thanks!

Well all, off to bed.

Take care!

   Howdy everyone

saronnaterry- pulse power isn't the same as momentum, pulse is power sent to the rails in short bursts to overcome jerky jackrabbit starts. The MRC manuals advise you to not use it for extended periods of run time, as it can overheat the loco. Momentum is full wave power that is electronically- or as I say with my extensive electrical knowledge, 'magically' - delayed or extended (when you accelerate or stop the loco respectively) by circuits in the powerpack. You can use it all the time. I'm sure there are people here who can make more sense of this than me, but I just wanted to give you a heads up on MRC's recommendations. Once I got serious about MRRing, I always used their packs, and never had the first problem with them. I have a Control Master 20 now, so I can run the few G gauge engines I have, and also have enough power to run a kajillion HO engines. Now I need to pick up a few gabillion more. Isn't that the correct numbering system, a thousand gabillion equals a kajillion?

Ajo and I tried to build a Rubbermaid closet organizer today, we had a few hours to kill, so we opened the box, smiling at each other with certain and knowing joy that the "easy to assemble" claim was right ther in big bold letters on the box. The first thing I needed to do was measure, mark and drill 34 holes in the wall, then put the instructions down and sit in my recliner. Good instructions, those. (to be honest, I might have read that second step wrong). We'll hit it again tomorrow when we have a bit more time.

   Take care all.

A tall cool glass of water, thanks!

***Dick, one thing I would very much like to do one day is ride that cog RR. I love riding any steam train, but that one is quite unique. What a trip that would be.

***Garry, those engineer/shop notes were a riot. Laugh [(-D]

***Phil, I seldom used the pulse switch on my now sick old Throttlepack, so will not be an issue with Terry's Tech IIs. Your explanation of the difference is correct, from what I have read about the various types. Good luck hitting the gazillion mark in your HO roster, or whatever your goal there was.Wink [;)]

Worked in the dungeon all night and made much progress. I saved one apple box worth of sawdust for future scenery experimentation. Still clearing the floor of scrap lumber & stuff. Put up brackets on the wall to keep/store the best of it. 1 or 2 days should finish this job, then I'll have room to do something with the RR table.

We're under a TORNADO WATCH here. Too bad the old weather alert radio quit working. If Ma Nature gits me, it's been great knowin y'all.

Good night...I hope.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Rob

Good Morning All,

I'll have a regular to go and a corn muffin please Zoe. Home 'puter still won't open pages here so still no log on at night. Warmer but drizzly this morning - it's getting lighter earlier and the temp is in the high 40's already with last weeks snow melting quickly.

Tanks for the memories. the service memos have been around in various guises for quite a while but never fail to get a grin. When i was at Porsche the service writer finally got tired of writing engine missing on 911 repair orders because I'd alway reply "Engine found in trunk!" And the rubbermaid organizer - priceless.

Tried a new weathering method last night that I'd read somewhere. Mixed weathering powder with isopropyl alcohol and sprayed with the old Badger but I didn't like the results. The Bar Mills powder I used didn't disolve in the alcohol and ended up speckling the structure. I was able to brush out the roofs some to look like streaks but I think it may be do-over time. I will admit it did tone down the structure a lot but just doesn't look right. I guess there is just no substitute for doing things the laborious one layer at a time way.

Lots  to do again today so I'd better get to it.    J.R.

Morning,all.

PHILRUNT: Thanks for the info. After reading that, I kinda remember the difference.

ROB: The CFO will post them today. I couldn't find any manuals or paper, but you can probably go to MRC's website for them.I'm sure I chucked the instructions as soon as I read them, like any good male.

Enjoy them. This "Play It Forward "thing is kind of fun!Angel [angel] Let me know how they work out for you.

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ, cup of coffee, and a trip by that delicious breakfast buffet, please - and thank Bill T. for helping you set it up again. And thanks to OzarkBelt for covering my breakfast tab.Dinner [dinner]

Duke, had you forgotten what a bunch of chowhounds this crew is? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Good to see you back in again (whether you're hitting the TOP or not...).

Folks, it's gonna be slippery out there today - and pretty windy (about 20 mph winds currently, but some gusts). Better warn our Midwesterners that the roads will be tricky. Our forecasters are saying some more ice and some snow on top of that today. Down our way, about 2 or 3 inches of snow, and up near St. Louis, 4 to 6 inches of it.

JP, thanks for the info on that book - I know I've at least seen it in a LHS (and may have some of the layouts in some of the MR's that I have).

Ryan, thanks for the links to those sites. I went and set up my weight tracker last night. Should be helpful.

Rob, was your wife in a hurry to get to work, or to get home? She lucked out there! Wink [;)]

Terry, sent you a PM.

Garry, loved that 'gripe list' post! Laugh [(-D]

Philnrunt, don't you just love those kind of directions? Smile [:)] Must've been designed by an engineer that never had to put it together, is my guess.

Well, I'd best get to my breakfast if I'm going to go to w**k and make sure they don't stop all you ORF's checks. Shock [:O] Also better get going before our power decides to go out (flickered a few times earlier, but still holding).

Stay warm and safe today, folks! Prayers for those in need and those still healing up.

Blessings,

Good morning,

30F, freezing rain and downright dreary today.

Rob, what vintage articulated locomotives do you have?

I have several of the old Mantua cast metal locomotives; to replace them with the new locomotives could cost me $200 - $500 each.  I've found I can re-motor them and install DCC for about $99/locomotive.  I think it will be fun to detail and refurbish these locomotives.

Thoughts and prayers to those on the sick and injured list.

Morning all!

Well, the weather guesser was off again.  No real ice storm last night.  Yes, it rained, and it got cold, and some of the rain froze, but the sleet and freezing rain never happened and the 1/4" to 1/3" ice on everything never happened either.  Thats 0/3 for the weather guy on storms this winter.  Oh well, I guess I'd rather have him predict the worst and nothing come of it then the other way around, huh?

So anyways, guess what he's predicting today!  You guessed it!

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY UNTIL MIDNIGHT

Today: Light freezing rain & sleet changing to snow this afternoon - high: 33

Tonight: Snow ends late, total accum. 1"-2" - low: 25

We'll see......................

Oh, for those of you keeping up, the wife is doing better.  She was able to lift her leg last night (just a little mind you) with just her leg muscles....no assistance.  Now we don't want to be doing that all the time, but it's a good sign!  Actually, she did it by accident.  She was rolling over in bed and did it without even thinking.  Only after she'd done it did we realize what she'd just done.

You know, we sat up talking til 2am last night.  Just about everything and nothing.  It was great, but I'm draggin' butt today!  I think an early bedtime will be the order of the day today!

So whats up with all of you?

***Jim, wife was doing what she always does when I'm not in the car...driving like a woman does.Laugh [(-D] I know of at least 3 times in the past year she has been pulled over and still NO TICKETS. She has seen two of these cops in the ER (one she stuck with a needlePirate [oX)]) and the third one was our neighbor. Lucky is right!

***Lee, they are old (N scale) Rivarossi, Challenger, Big Boy & Mallet. My eyes would not be good enough to add any kind of detail to them. And as cool as they seemed when I bought them many years ago, there is no comparison to what is being produced today. I had re-motored two of them with massive can motors in the tenders and lead weight everywhere, but I have pulled those motors to return them to more original condition. The smaller motors I have to replace the originals are slightly too big, unless I shave down some frame. I suspect if I have them all running, I could sell them on the bay for enough to cover most of the cost of 1 fancy new one, probably opting for a Big Boy.

Hey all havnt stopped in for a long while i have been really busy with school and the fire department. Here is something interesting for everyone, i was on a chimney fire a few weeks ago and in the basement where the wood stove was located there also happened to be an HO layout, it was pretty big two helix's one on each end, talked to the guy said he had been building it for the past 20 years. My layout is coming along nicely im not as finished as i would like to be though. here is a photo of the most finished section
