IO forgot to tell you guys, Tuesday we have a bloodrive, and I donated to the IBC.
Beautiful day out, I'd take this morning all year for days like this to follow them.

Wow, Ryan, you have been busy. Mexican food sounds great.

***and with the County Courthouse right next door, it will be easier to file those lawsuits for food poisoning. Just kidding, the wee little folk on your layout would NEVER serve anything other than Superb Quisine. That is some roundhouse you have going there. Will it remain clean or will the machinists dirty the place up?
Rob
Garry, thanks! Check out this Interactive Map of southeast Louisiana, it gives some insight into the whole area and how it was formed over the last 6,000 years. And what is happening today that erodes the coastal areas. New Orleans itself is -5 below sea level on average and sits inside a bowl of levees, the argument to NOT build again is like telling the people of Venice Italy that they have to move out too! Of course I might sound like the pot calling the kettle black since we moved out 5 months after the storm, but that don't change what those who still live there are going through. There are at least six reasons why New Orleans is in the sad state that is in today, including land subsidence and sea-level rise. The house we owned on the Westbank (across the river from downtown) was about +5 above sea level.
Rob, ask and you shall...well....you know the rest...

Hello ...
Ryan has Mexican food today. Sounds great! .... He has key Lime Pie, too, so I must save room for that!
That's okay Ryan to give your insights on the Katrina disaster. Now I would question why the part of the city below sea level would be built again below sea level. The good news in this area is the restaurant that opened last year with authentic New Orleans food. A family relocated from New Orleans and opened the restaurant. Good Stuff.

Hope to see more train photos from y'all. Really enjoy seeing them.
I can think of one good thing about needing to sell off extra train stuff: It forces one to make decisions on what you really want on your layout and what you can do without. For a long time I've been thinking "transition era", so I can keep the early diesels. Now a strictly steam era layout is looking more likely and that is OK too, isn't it?
Good morning, the first day of spring slid into Cleveland on 2" of snow and a 30 mph north wind this morning. I haven't been in the diner lately; I built six 3'x4' layout sections and one 4'x4' section yesterday. Tonight I'll start laying track and post some pictures. Section # 12 will host the actual Fox Creek with it's 2 bridges.
Greyfox; Diesel is $4.19 and Reg economy $3.89 a gallon.
JP, how did you find out about 09MAY08??
Ryan, scan them as a PDF, then burn them to a DVD, and then make copies for all your friends in the diner!
Rob, nice looking table!
Jim, sorry to hear about your car.

Good morning, All. I will slide into this corner booth and see who drops in. Chloe, I will have coffee and a cinnamon roll. That should hold me until the lunch crowd starts drifting in.
My Walthers order showed up, so I can start working on structures. The one that Larry picked out was a water tank. Imagine my surprise when the order came. It was a built-up. Maybe I should read the description a little closer.
He reminded me that I am holding up his trestle progress. Gotta paint those figures for the stockyard.

Morning All (again)
Wow, looks like nobody's around! all the more donuts for me!
Hey, I have a Question: How do you get a photo in your signature? I have yet to figure it out!
Thanks!
Ozark,
I can answer that one!
You must insert BB code into the Signature code box in your profile, such as the following:
(img)http://website.com/images/imagename.jpg(/img) Make sure you change the paren () surrounding the img tags to brackets.
Also there is an image pixel size limit to around 400 width X 200 height or so, any larger and the forum code appends the image to the top or bottom dimensions to fit, so make sure the area of the image you want to be seen is cropped and sized to fit.
Morning folks!
Light rain last night but a whole lot of wind with it too! Bright and clear sunny skies today, but supposed to get into the 30's tonight...burr...
Chloe, any of those breakfast specials left from yesterday? Great, I'll have the one with the eggs and meat.

No, no, no....your not in any trouble ....just popular, that's all! How many PC's does it take before PC gets a complex about references to PC's?
PC best wishes for the little man today. Our prayers are with you!
Der John that is an interesting variation on the "billion" dollar email, however, I will have to put in my 2 cents on the New Orleans recovery effort, it still has a special place in my heart and soul. I have many relatives and friends that still live in southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast today. I have no idea what amount of tax dollar money has been spent, is being spent, or will be spent there to rebuild other than the initial FEMA monies, but I assure you that it is not enough to make the entire Gulf Coast what it used to be pre Katrina. As a matter of fact I can tell you that private enterprise and public donation has put more money into the local economies of New Orleans, Gulf Port, Bay Saint Louis, and Biloxi in the last 2 ½ years since Katrina than any government organization. I had a home in New Orleans and insurance only paid $5,000 for roof damage, rotten food left in refrigerators and freezers, fallen trees, debris clean up, fence repairs, evacuation costs, and on and on. And we were on the light side of the damage ratio compared to others who had up to 10 feet of water in their homes.
Not to mention the pain and suffering that my family endured riding out the storm and during the evacuation living in a hotel room for 3 ½ weeks following the storm. At the time Ben was 10 years old and riding out the storm at my in-laws building in the French Quarter has scared him for life, any time a rain storm or wind starts brewing up to this day he gets scared and frightened, how much money will make that pain go away? I kick myself every day for not evacuating before the storm, but historically we and my families had never done so in the past, live and learn I guess.
My parents and in-laws have only gotten insurance settlements, and no government hand outs other than the initial FEMA checks which were around $1,000 per family to cover evacuation costs, living expenses, etc. The funds that Mary Landrieu requested included plans to build a whole new levee system to protect flood prone areas, and based on a system that the Dutch built years ago to protect their low lying areas. Among other projects including raising the Interstate highways (I-10 and I-55) that cross the lakes and waterways to a level that would be higher than any storm surge (30 +/- feet). I also know that both of these are major corridors which provide interstate trucking/commerce from Florida to California and from the Gulf Coast to Chicago and beyond. But having lived in New Orleans for 90% of my life I also know that the rest of Louisiana despises New Orleans and would love to see it annexed from the state. Don't get me wrong, we left there because we got tired of all the junk and bad things that surrounds the city and the state, but we still miss the culture, the food, and our family's and friends the most. I just hate it when I see misleading and misjudged emails/stories about things that make no sense. Having been there I know otherwise.
I would be surprised if the home that I sold in New Orleans in 2006 would get the $1,329,787 that the email speaks. And maybe this is off topic a bit but I think that the Economic Stimulus Package of $1,500 dollars that we expect to receive is a big joke! We will have to claim it as income for 2008 tax year and will be taken out of any refunds we hope to get next year.
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. Rant over!
Der, I agree, Testors tube glue was junk and still is junk, I like Model Master much better.
Dick the drought conditions in our area of North Carolina went from "exceptional" drought to "extreme" drought conditions, so we dropped one level, but at least we have more water storage now.
Rob table is looking good!
Jim hope you made it through the flood waters okay, I heard Missouri got a foot of rain in some parts the past few days.

got to go.
Mornin' all!
Well, today is the big day! My son and wife are getting ready to go now, so I don't have a lot of time. Just want to ask that if your the prayin' kind, please say one for my son this morning. Thanks!
Later!
Oh, and one last thing.......
Dick, I really got to thinking about what you said yesterday. Those were some very kind words, but you know, I don't think the scope of them was nearly broad enough. I mean, I've heard you all talk about your kids and grandkids. I'm no more involved with my son or daughter then any of the rest of you are. I love them, so I'm actively involved in their lives, but so is everyone that I've heard here. I think that maybe those words fit each of us here. So while I thank you for building me up in such a way, I think the same could be said of anyone here. Now we just have to show those in the world around us who're having trouble with this how to do it right.
Good Morning All,
Mid 40's and drizzly this morning. Looks like more of the same all day. Busy day yesterday with our truck driver picking up a customers new trailer out in Cesco Io (I think) and a meeting with the folks from Lime Rock Park using up most of the time. Went home at 7pm and promptly fell asleep.
Did get down to the museum Tuesday night where we worked on the O gauge layout we're putting in revising the plans and cutting in switches and a turntable. We're using Ross track and roadbed which is working well so far along with a couple of sections of GarGraves flex track I found in the debris under the table. So far so good, but next comes a mountain with tunnel and elevated track so things should get interesting in a hurry. The N is just getting cleaning/maintainence in the mean time untiltime presents itself for more structures for another neighborhood.
I'll try to catch up on posts today and wait for the word on PC's son. Hope Pauls' CFO is better as well and any of the rest of you with the various ailments.
Bill - that was a harsh lesson in reality for the bloke that parked up too close to the track. Would he still have been canned if he hadn't claimed whiplash ? Just curious. CUL, J.R.

Good Morning from Tipton IN !
In response to the people that mentioned my New Castle IN depot picture from yesterday, it was taken to use in evidence at a hearing NS was having on the local Signal Maintainer. He was sitting in his company truck, parked too close to the track, when the local switcher hit it at low speed. He suffered a "whiplash" injury but it was not permanent. I was one of the union officers representing him at the hearing.
And yes, the NS fired him.

What is the Insomniac Special here tonight? I'll have a double helping, and to drink with that, how about some Valerian/Chamomile/Kava Root tea. Thanks!
Just a quick stop for the evening, Chloe, and a small hot fudge sundae to go, please. Thank Paul for me when he stops by in the morning, if you would.
Rob, sorry to hear about your maybe selling the mares, but if it helps you all out in the meantime, hope the coroner decides to buy them.
Bill T., that's a nice photo of that depot. You've been out railfanning before you retired, I see.
The ceiling in my apartment has tapered back on the drips, and I think the windows have stopped dripping, so some improvement. But I'll like it better once the ceiling stops altogether. Tired of wringing out the rag t-shirts every so often in the day. Pffffttttt!!
Not sure, but I think the bank may have missed charging me today. Hey, I won't tell them if you don't, Diners!
Time for me to head for the bed and catch some 's....

Evening Gang: Mary Ann is feeling better. She didn't even take a nape today. John started the remodeling of the house. Mary Ann had him start in the living room. I have gotton all the videos packed up and now must start on cleaning the garage out. That is going to be a big job. The daughter and her family are coming Friday so we must get going to have the mess minamized.
Rob I'm sorry that you are having to sell off you horses. I know how that can be. I'm happy that your misses is feeling better.
PC how did things go with your son?
I'm going to head for the bed.
Good Night All.

Hoop: Wow, a felow Stageslave too! Take my word, it doesn't get any better. What's the play? if I may suggest, investing in a good pair of knckle gloves? those things that don;t cover the tips. They're great for backstage, as they'll take rampant splinter from set pieces, and prevent the fishiong wire from biting into your hand (which hurts) but the tips missing give you grip so that birds, or whatever don't land on Cinderella or whomever...
[The praise from Dick to PC was well served and true. I suspect all diners agree. We'll be praying for PC's son's surgery.]
***Jim, the wife is at the moment OK health wise. Thanks for asking. Lots of room for improvment in our dept. though. The coroner is still interested in two of our mares, so crossing our fingers he takes them.
Going to go work in the dungeon for awhile. Have a good night all.
Gerry, thanks.....and the prayers are the best thing!

this evening I brought in a cookie jar full of fresh oatmeal raisin cookies for an evening snack for all of you.
It'll be wet outside here for a long time. Looks like Cape G got it really bad. has Noah been loading animals on any boats over there, JIM CG?
We had a small get together with model railroaders today.
Cheers, everyone
Bill, I like the New Castle Indiana NS depot/2006 photo!
I saved a copy for my NS research folder, thanks!
Oh...and since it's about dinner time, I'll have a dozen oysters on the 1/2 shell and a 1/2 a shrimp loaf with a bowl of Oyster Stew Chole! Thanks!
