Thanks for the kind thoughts guys. It is appreciated! It got worse: Wife is in the ER with BOTH her parents as I type. Her dad is weak and her mom has very high blood pressure. That's all I know right now as she was too busy to say more when I called her a few minutes ago.
I'm working up the nurve to spend those proceeds from vintage sales on a Proto 0-8-0. Wish there was a big sale on them, it would be an easier decision to make. Do you guys think they might go on sale in late Dec or is it just as likely they will all be sold out of them before then?
Long day here, but productive for the most part. Rob
Evening, Diners - I see it's before shift change and both our twins are still here. Ladies, I'll have a cheeseburger about half the size of Dave's, with a root beer float and some cheesey fries, too, please. Thanks!
Well, I got by the Dr.'s office about 11 this morning, and he gave me a prescription for an antibiotic and some samples for a longer-lasting decongestant than I'd been taking (12 vs. 4 hours). Think some of you must've been saying a few for me - the antibiotic was only a $10 co-pay. [whew!]
Dave, that's one burger that Jeff would be proud of! And how'd those Santa Fe diesels get all the way to Pennsyland where the tower was?
GMTRacing wrote:FWIW it looks llike the RSD15 is a low nose version of the RS-11 with all the long hood stuff in the same places. The RS-11 (DL-701) had a high short hood to enclose the steam generator used for passenger service and the low hood makes it much better for short hood forward yard work. Don't remember seeing any low hood RS-11's. J.R.
According to my (older) copy of the Diesel Spotter's Guide, only the RSD-12 and the RSD-15 got factory-made 'low-nose jobs' (while the RSD-7 had the long nose like the RSD15. I do recall an article a while back that referred to the RSD-15 by its Alligator nickname (might've been in RMC, I think).
Garry - thanks for the link on the model(s). I may be looking at some of those BlueLine locos - I'd forgotten that BLI had (or they added) sound with DC, plus a plug-in for DCC when I get ready to switch over. But that's assuming Fergie doesn't corner all of them before I get one ordered...
Jerry, do you have a place to put/hide your layout? I know some apartments are short on extra storage space. Good to hear that Sallie's feeling good enough to tackle part of the cooking - or is it hard for her to stay out of the kitchen usually?
Corey, I'd say your use of the MP kits hasn't limited your skills, as evidenced by the results (which are great). Besides, once you have more funds, you can still use the less expensive buildings to practice your weathering ideas on. The key to most kits is not how expensive it is (or whether it's styrene or laser-cut wood), but what the finished result looks like.
Rob, hope Barbara and her sister are able to get some plans figured out for their Dad. If his health goes downhill, there may not be a lot of good choices on where to have him cared for. Let her know that she (and her Dad and the rest of the family) are in our prayers. On your purchase question, hard to tell if the prices would go up or down. Best bet is to choose what you need to do (or when), and trust in God that you got (or didn't) what you needed at that time.
Johnboy, do you have as much fun with your game as we (SOT49th) have with the SuperBowl? (Chips, dips, snacks, beverages and all your (rowdy?) friends watching)? Down here, even if we're not rooting for 'our' team, there are always at least a couple of parties at one of my friends for SB. Of course, for some of us, the fun part is the party or watching the commercials.
back, Bob K.! Yep, from those photos, I'd say that your club needs you - to get some of that scenery going again! Good to see you back, and drop in when you get the time (if the club doesn't try to chain you to the benchwork...
Chloe, how about some dessert, please? Maybe a nice hot fudge brownie sundae?
Thanks - and I'll be at the corner booth working on this. I think I'm not contagious now, but sit at your own risk.
Blessings and prayers,

Jeff, I'd say it's a pretty close call between yours and Dave's on total height, but your special has more veggies in it, so it might be healthier for us!

Good Evening All,
Waiting for the paint to dry so I can continue my aNventures. Busy, busy and off to Tarrytown to meet a freind and hand over two of his cars tomorrow Am (if the weather holds). Spent most of Sat and some of Sun at the rail yard working on the Crane Car (Silent Hoist Company of Brooklyn, N.Y.) just trying to get it to run whilst it kicked my butt. Finally removed the carb for the second time and recleaned it and got it going Sunday morning (resistance is futile after all). Now I just need to fix the shifter and refill the tires and I'm good to go. jGave all the local train shows a miss the last few weeks as I didn't want to spend $$$ with the Christmas season rapidly approaching. Did break down and get #1 son to acquire the Frateschi EP-4 from e(you know) as the brass ones are way too dear. It will end up in a plexi case at the museum in front of the model of the Danbury Station (complete with catenary). I really wanted an EP-2 or 3 box cab, but those are totally over the top price-wise.
Speaking of the station, here are the next three Model Power iNpossibly small houses - still pretty faithful to the kits, but with modded roofs.
Oops, gotta go - the CFO has proposed a trip to Michaels and who could pass up such an opportunity? CUL, J.R.
Good evening Diners! We have High Speed!...or, more strictly speaking Kris has HS, and I don’t yet because (are you ready for this?)..the wireless router I bought on Saturday can’t be used! Why not?...it was packed without its antennae. Guess where it was made!
So, I’m at her ’puter and enjoying the wonderful world of not watching pages load in the diner. Bliss! I am having trouble logging in from here, and so I’ll post this from my dial up when I’ve done.
Mitch: Der-definitely good taste in music!!!! " style='width:11.25pt;height:11.25pt'> " border="0" width="15" height="15" /> …it was fun, but I must confess the Original Cater Family that followed was just too whiny for us.
Der-definitely good taste in music!!!! " style='width:11.25pt;height:11.25pt'> " border="0" width="15" height="15" />
Craig:…Why steal when Vinnie can arrange a virtually interest free loan? Hope you can call back in and tell us a bit more about your mrr / railfan life.
PC: That’s heartening news about your wife...and Jerry, that goes for Sallie too!
CapeJim: I’ve just tried to bring in Photobucket on Kris’ Netscape, and it crashed as soon as it was up. So… either I try Explorer on high speed on my ’puter eventually, or I go for a different (Firefox?) browser.
Corey: Someone had mentioned my modeling approach. There's a word for it, CHEAP! I would love to buy more expensive kits, but the funding isn't there. For the price of one walthers kit, I can get two model power kits. …Preach it Brother!!! I’m even cheaper, scratching where I can, and only using kits when I must, or they’re on offer. The steel pilings for my dock are a casein point. Box cardboard stripped down to just the corrugations and one outer layer, refined some, and painted. (Photos when it’s done.)

Johnboy: That the RRs are in the Grey Cup will please my NScale friend in Edmonton. He’s a stubble jumper too from way back.
Rob: Lee’s and PC’s thoughts.
Welcome back BobK. Our condolences for your loss. As you know there are those here who can relate directly to you, and many more who are pulling for you. [anglel]
Well, I’m off to copy this onto my memory stick, and have a cuppa (see, it’s not just OZ uses that). Then I’ll use some of my 5 hours / month dial up to send it in.
TTFN.

Evening Gang: Not much on the MRRing front. I did get out to Clark Gardens and talked with Max Clark about the HO layout. He's very excited with the ideas and said it's my baby. I have to get the plans done and do a artist's misconception of the way it will look to the viewer. Fortunately there is no time limit. He also talked about an expansion of the garden from the ticket booth nort to the road along the west fence. He said that he'd like to put in a track for our 7.5in gauge to run on. They will be wotrking on the landscaping this winter. There will be no flower gardens just trees and flowering schrubs. It will be nice. Right now the area is nothing but scrub grass and mesquite trees. Since this is the first thing that visitors see when they come in it will be an improvement. Personally I like the natural look but.
BobK: Welcome back. I've missed you and have been woundering what you've been up to.
Rob: I'll PM you with a name and ph no of a fellow that does discount trains.
To everyone my best wishes for health and happyness.
Good Night All
Just a tall cool glass of water tonight. thanks!
***Jim, hope the antibiotics & other stuff does the trick for you.
***JR, must be nice to have a Michaels within a reasonable driving distance. Enjoy! And those are nice little houses that the wee little folks should enjoy.
***Der, welcome to the world of High Speed. What a difference it makes, eh! Enjoy!
The FIL was admitted to the hospital and will be there several days. Then it's back to a nursing home for rehab. I feel bad for Barbara (who is spending the night there) so I bought some little HO folks to hopefully put a smile on her face, if only short term.
Otherwise, all is well on the ol' farm tonight. Rob
Hello ...
Lot's going on here.
Jerry ....... glad Sallie is better. Keep those good reports coming in.
Rob ......... terribly sorry to learn about your in-laws. Prayers for them and all the family members.
Jeff is definately better and now eating dagwood sandwiches.
Sounds like Paul has lots to look foreard to.
BobK ...... Really glad you are back! I, too, have been wondering how you are. Thanks for the club photos. Now, you may find model railroading is good for "sanity breaks" to help you through the rough times. While you were gone, my sister-in-law passed away. My wife, Shelley, continues to greive for her yongest sister, Janet.
Cory ... those MP kits look good. You can make very good buildings from IHC kits that are often on sale. train shows have low priced buildings too. My switch tower next to my new speeder/tool shed was a broken Plasticville building i bought for 30 cents. I fixed it up and added details.
Flashware .... I like those turbotrain colors!
JimCg ... how many Santa Fe Allegators are youy buying?
Philip ... best wishes to Mrs PC
Dave V........... Keystone detector locates a switch tower! Terrific. One of their PRR Alcos with high hoods would be good if in N guage for you. IF they made one!
JR .... I like the houses. Anything good at Michaels?
Der .... High speed internet! fantastic!
Dick .... You mentioned fast trains in India. have you ever stood on a platfoem when a 60 mph, 100 car freight train rolls by? it'll blow you away!
Do I have to laugh at my own jokes these days? Nobody read my circus train wreck story, I guess. Or should I give up on jokes? (How ypu wish!)
happy Model Railroading!

Evening folks-just dropping in before bedtime.
I know I hit this place on the weekend usually, but wanted to add just one more pic from Sebring on Saturday since there was some interest in these units. A little closer, & the flash got turned on accidentally.
I knew they were RSD-somethings, not being that ATSF knowledgeable. Seeing the "Alligator" reference rings a bell, & I think I did read about the proto somewhere sometime. The pics were taken just as the operator was taking them out of the yard-they seemed to be quite smooth running & good slow speeds. As to their noise level, hard to tell as the noise level in the club was above average due to the crowd.
Anyways, just wanted to share that extra pic. Nite all!
(Oh yeah, Der, no worries on not liking the Carter Family stuff as being whiny-you're in the majority, believe me. Myself I LOVE it, but can only play when I'm by myself or with the jacks plugged in here & you WILL love hi-speed internet-believe me, I had dial-up for 2 years up until I got cable-difference is as night & day IMO!)

Good Morning, Zoe! I see Bill T.'s brought the donuts by, so how about one of those twisty donuts and a cup of the TH, please. Thanks!
Feeling better this morning, temp appears gone, and I'm getting a bunch of the nasty stuff cleared out. My right ear's still stopped up some, but that may just take a bit of time to clear.
Congratulations on going digital, Der - and I hope you get the router problem fixed ASAP. Don't you just 'love' it when you have to make what should be an unnecessary trip back to the place where you bought something? Enjoy your highspeed. If you do get Firefox, you want to also get the Adblock Plus and NoScript plugins, both of which help eliminate ads (but on the MRR ones where you want to see them, you can permit - 'whitelist' - those sites). Saves some time in loading a page. You may still have some Shockwave/Flash ads on a few sites, but I think there's a plug-in for Firefox that handles those, too. Much more secure than Explorer, also. (My )
Mitch, I'd agree with Rob, that maintenance car there behind the Alligator looks interesting. Do you know who makes that?
Well, better get going for now. Good to hear of those on the mend, and prayers for those still ailing. Hope everyone's preparations for Thanksgiving (SOT49th) are going smoothly and that you have a great day. And prayers for safe shopping for any heading to the stores on Friday...
Blessings,
I'm going to call the doc today and see if he can have a look at my foot. I've had an open wound on the bottom of it for several years. I've been keeping it properly cleaned and bandaged as I was instructed to do and it had actually healed up at one time, but opened up again about a month ago. Once again it was the same old thing of keeping it cleaned and bandaged but instead of healing again it has quickly become larger. Suddenly what was firm and red inside the wound has become gray and spongy. This could be the start of an infection or worse, the onset of gangrene. The foot is swollen up some and is getting puffy. I can't tell if there's an active infection going as I've got no feeling in my feet. I can pour rubbing alcohol straight into the wound and feel absolutely nothing. When I stand all I feel is the pressure caused by my weight, nothing more. I'm also running a 99 to 102 fever again. I think I have a serious situation here.Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 11/20/2007Wind Chill: 64°FHumidity: 95%Dew Point: 63°FSo Far TodayHigh: 65°FLow: 62°FRain: 0.00"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 7mph SSE Now through 09:15 AM CST November 20, 2007Areas of dense fog will continue across central and southwest Louisiana as well as southeast Texas through 9 AM. Hello everyone:
Jeff that does not sound good at all. Praying for you....... Let us know how it goes.
in a AT&SF mug, please & thanks!
***Jeffrey, wishing you all the best at the Docs. That sounds nasty. Fingers crossed for you. (BTW, Nice night shot)
Wife left for hospital. After she spends the day with her dad, she will work her 12 hour shift tonight. She seemed very down this morning.
Very busy day ahead. Tractor tires are FINALLY ready, but need to get hay too. Maybe I will make John Deere WAIT for a while.
After buying some HO stuff for wife and needing some of my train funds for a few tubes of oil paints, might have to sell another vintage item before adding to my steam roster. Oh well!
Rob
Morning All, it's great to see all those smiling faces.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you Jeffery, really hope all goes well, and get back here quick. That is nothing to fool with, so glad to hear you are tending to it and Getting-R-Dun.You have had more that your share lately. Maybe it's because you don't have to shovel snow and get lots of clean fresh air. hahaha.. I'm sitting here at work and watching the snow come down through my window, and thinking that i'll have to shovel or maybe even blow when I get home later.
What's for brunch today Cloe?? I feel like some Potatoe soup and a cheese and onion sandwich please, with a chaser of hot chocolate.
Yesterday, at a craft store I found some long wire staples (2 in.) that will work just great to hang the chicken wire on to the profile boards for the mountains and gorge. They use them for making those big Christmas wreaths. So there should be lots available out there for you all, if you are interested. They are cheap too.
If it doesn't take to long to move the snow when I get home I'm going to give them a try. Will keep you posted on this progress.

Picked up our tractor tires: Water + 6qts anti-freeze + 1 valve stem + labor = $190. (ouch)
Still need to buy hay. Off to unload tires and then do evening critter rounds.
(((BUMP)))
and while I'm here,refill, please & thanks.
Just a couple lugnuts short of having one tire on (got too dark to continue). And gues what I discovered, a tiny leak from the other valve. Used some flexible goop stuff all over the entire stem then wrapped that in ducttape. Has worked on lots of other stuff, so will cross my fingers. No way am I ever going back to JD for anything ever again.
The little (N) metal cars arrived and look good enough to me. Sure beats trying to paint those do-it-yourself vehicles, at least with my eyes and patience level.
Hello everybody.
Well hello Rob. Kinda quiet. Concerned that Jeff did not get back yet.
Rob... the tires are really something. I have often had my "15 minute projects". I say I'll be in the gargage 15 minutes to make a quick repair. Three hours later I come back in the house to say the problem is much worse than before and it is not fixed. Where's that Murphy and his law? I'd like to speak with him.

Oh, and btw all, this year, the main course isn't turkey... it's Roasted Jets alla Dallas Cowboys. I'm sure everyone will enjoy it.
Hey Chloe, to celebrate, how about the onion ring tower and a coke.
I plan to head over to the LHS, the club I want to join is going to have some of their modules set up in the back room and will be running trains from tommorow to December 23rd.
Ah look, the tower o' onions has arrived.
