Evening Gang:

Rob: Mary Ann and I are both diabetic. We're getting along on drugs, no shots. The thing is to find out ASAP. Stay away from sugar. The important thing is find out. Diabetis can cause cause blindness or deminished eye sight. A real problem for us MRRers. If you do what the doctor says and watch your weight and diet it can be controled. I'm watching my weight ( mostly go up a bit).

I'm watching Black Adder right now. Great show and funny.

Jeff: Good to see that you are feeling better.

JimCG: This insurance thing is a real bear. Try and find a medicare supplement.

Flashwave: I enjoyed the pictures, fortunately I have wireless. If you could post them a few at a time it would help the ones with dial-up.

I went over to the LS track and got my diesel out. I drained the old gas and put in fresh with some Berrymans. It still dies in idale. I guess I'll have to take it in.

Well I think that I'll start getting ready for bed.

Good Night All

Flashwave, you might pace yourself on the photos in a post, since there are a few (even of our regulars) who are still on dial-up and would take a while for that page to load. Better to break 'em up into 3-5 of your best ones at a time. Just my My 2 cents [2c] - I can still remember the crawl that is dial-up... But those were sure some pretty locos!

Sign - Oops [#oops] I shoulda known that. I'm gonna splitt that off now for those stuill on page 5.

And the next set I want to share is only a few of 2 cars I did.

BTW, aren't temps not supposed to do that?

EDIT:Half from last post of NWR run.

BTW guys, thanks for the concern during the recent fish fiasco. I really appreciate it.

Hey, if you ever take MusinexD, don't plan on going anywhere for a while. It has a kick like a mule. I took two of them this afternoon (recommended dosage) and I'm still buzzed out of my skull! Two last for twelve hours.

(1/2 decaf 1/2 reg) in a SOUTHERN mug, please & thanks!

Took some time tonight to search for a good deal on a (N) Proto 0-8-0 loco. Best price I can find is about $128 (delivered). Will I be better served to wait for the next time a train show hits Atlanta and hope some vendor has one they will sell cheap?Pirate [oX)] Or does anyone know of a better deal anywhere? Glad I sold the two vintage loco sets, but this purchase alone would wipe out all the proceeds in one fell swoop. Any chance they will come down in price?

Now I am contemplating selling my vintage Atlas 0-8-0 that I remotored with a 5-pole last year. It runs great, but probably wouldn't compare to that Proto version, certainly not in the looks department. Not sure I would make enough from such a sale to make it worth parting with. Besides, that would be cutting into my Steam roster, even if it leads to an upgrade.Shock [:O] Guess I'll think on that one a while.

OK, enough rambling. Hope everyone is doing well. Good night all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Evening, Diners! I'll just have a tall glass of OJ, please. Thanks, Janie.

I'm not sure - anybody whose CFO is in the medical fields and can fill us in? I don't know if one's temp is supposed to work like that or not. Just impatient for it to finish and get gone. I did notice one plus about being sick these past few days; I've managed to lose about 10 pounds (which I needed to do, anyway). Smile [:)]

Got warm here this afternoon - I think we got some of the weather PC is expecting for tomorrow. Cool [8D] But I only found out late in the afternoon when I made a run for some groceries and a soda.

Jeff, careful with the Mucinex. You won't be able to run trains for a while, if you keep taking that stuff! Wink [;)]

To answer Sue's question earlier, my afternoon/weekend wasn't too efficient for MRR'ing. Only thing MRR-related that I did was to download a new version of a second layout-design program to try out. Didn't get either the Grandt Line relay boxes or the Delta's Diner started.Sigh [sigh]

Paul, on the insurance, the problem is, I'm only coming up on 61 around the end of this month. Got to wait a little bit longer (and stay healthy in the meantime).

Hope everyone gets a good evening's sleep. Prayers for all in need of healing and comfort.

Blessings on your week ahead,

TRAINSHOW WEEKEND: DAY TWO

has come to an end. It was another great day, saw some neat trains, and I'm going to join a club.

Heres the deals I found today:

Athearn Standard F7A, SP Daylight #7035, $30- Headlight is almost as bright as Jeff's locomotive; but not quite.

Unknown manufacteror: 2 50' boxcars, Southern Pacific Hydra Cushion (SP?) and Southern Pacific Auto Parts, $10- These ones were weathered!

Sue: How'd you miss out on the deals? I thought you would have seen some of the good ones. Did you see the vendor that was in the far right corner? (Right as if you just walked in) I got everything except my F7 there. He had some SP&S FA1s and FA2s and FB1s and FB2s, and  plenty of F7s and stuff in local roadnames. Most of them were under $150 apiece.

Well, I think my trains need some attention...

Hello everyone.  Just to keep you up to date, there was a railway accident in India a week ago. In case you missed it, here's the story. As information......

By AP Saturday November 10, 06:29 PM

A wild elephant was killed by a train while trying to cross railway tracks in eastern India, an official said Saturday.

The adult male was hit by the train in Rajabjatkhawa in Jalpaiguri district, about 750 kilometers (466 miles) north of Calcutta, the capital of West Bengal state, said L. G. Lepcha, a local forest official.

It was the 28th elephant to be killed in a train-related accident this year.

Lepcha said that forest officials would investigate whether the engine driver was traveling too fast.

Local animal rights activists protested the pachyderm's death by squatting on the railroad tracks for several hours.

India _ with 10,000 to 15,000 elephants _ has the largest pachyderm population in Asia, but numbers are declining because of loss of habitat and poaching.

Railways, which often run through wildlife sanctuaries, have killed dozens of elephants in recent years.

Evening folks-just dropping to say "hey" before bed.

A very "non" train day unfortunately. Raking leaves, cleaning gutters, you know the drill. Tonight was necessary paperwork, & figuring out the remainder of my vacation/personal time off that I have to take before Dec.22nd, or lose it. (comes to about 3 wks I gotta get in-my boss is gonna kill me because I did this last year (cramming in at the end of the year & told her I wouldn't do it again this year)Sigh [sigh]

My bud called me this afternoon-he had just went thru the "Christmas Story" movie house in Cleveland. He thought it was cool as all get out. Folks were there from Georgia, Massachusetts, Chicago, & 3 blocks down the street Tongue [:P] It's just as it was in the movie. One fella took a pic of his little one under the sink like Ralphie's younger brother in the movie. The chinese restaurant is down the street also, where you can actually order duck & have the head chopped off too. The actual Oldsmobile has just been restored & is in the garage waiting to be unveiled next week. (Ironically it was at the auto electric shop my bud leases next to his garage in the past week or so getting some final electrical work touched up.)

Jim- sounds like your cold is on the way out. Just take it easy & take care of yourself!

Garry- like I said, those pics from Sebring are probably the best of the bunch. I usually don't have that unsteady of a hand, but here's a few more (& one when I accidentally had the flash on:

The club has a website too:  http://www.sebringmodelrailroadclub.org/ (haven't figured out how to make an active link here-sorry about that)

I won't add this many pics in the future here as I don't want to be a major cause of bandwidth hogging on the MR servers! Wink [;)]

Der-definitely good taste in music!!!!Big Smile [:D]

Rob-I hope your father in law is coming along ok-My mom has had a stroke or 2 (along with a couple mini-strokes.) she keeps bouncing back though, but she finally had to retire last year from the library after 30 years (& at the age of 77!)

Jeff-I guess you have to be careful with food like that no matter how well it's kept. I put a Jeno's frozen pizza in the freezer here back at the end of Sept. when we moved here. My mom told me recently that some of those had E-Coli problems. I finally got around to checking it, & the # on it didn't match the recalls, but the expiration date was 2 days ago Oops [oops] so in the trash it went.

Sorry for the long post folks-I try to make up for it by dropping in only on the weekends.

Nite all!

Well, you've probably heard it said before, maybe even by me, but I'll say it again........If you don't like the weather, stick around 5 minutes, it'll change!  This is esspecially true here in Indiana!  Check out this forecast!

Today: morning clouds & showers ending, afternoon sun & warmer - high: 58
Tonight: mostly clear and mild - low: 53

Not so bad, right?  But wait!  Here it comes.....the extended outlook!

Just a little grab bag of everything!

Well, the wife is doing better all the time.  I have school tonight, so I'm getting everything together for that.  My daughter has a friend of hers coming to stay for a week or two from Shreveport, LA. and my son is shootin' hoops!  Busy, busy, busy!  Oh, and the family turkey day feast is at our house this year since my wife can't go anywhere.  We're going to bring her downstairs for the day, but thats about as far as she can go.

For right now though, I'm off to work!

Jeff, hope you're feeling better buddy!

Prayers for all of those in need!  (Yeah, thats you too!)  (And me!)

Morning Folks!

I see the new Diner is getting settled into quick like! Build it and they will come, eh!

Chloe set me up with the Lumberjack Special and some of that hot cup a Joe in a NS mug! Please....

Garry - nice shed you made with the box materials. Is that one of those frugal modeling tricks? So trains and elephants on tracks don't mix well! Confused [%-)]

Corey - A belated Welcome to the Diner, and I like your modeling approach too! Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

Mike - A 21# turkey and a 14# ham ought to keep the family fed for Thanksgiving! Oh, and thanks for the IC/CN yard pics too!

 grayfox1119 wrote:

RYAN: Did you get out in them thar woods of NC and shoot your Thanksgiving turkey yet? How about your stuffing recipe, is it bread and cracker stuffing or ground pork, ground hamburg and potato stuffing?

Dick - Yea, NC has a lot of turkeys, both farm raised and wild too! I'm not one for hunting these days; I did that years ago with my dad back in Louisiana for duck, dove, and deer. Haven't decided on a stuffing yet, but might make it something like apple, sage and cornbread with oysters.

Philip - Ouch! Those staples look like they hurt too! Hope she is healing well! Bow [bow]

Flip - Nice to see you in the Diner again, and picking up the tab too heh....your timing is impeccable. Big Smile [:D]

Rob - You know that gold ole mountain dew might be the culprit....especially if that last batch of mash was left to long to grow... Whistling [:-^] LOL...actually, Jeff and Der John have good advice for you. And prayers go out for Barbara's dad!

Der John - Nice progress on the layout there!  Thumbs Up [tup]

Mitch - I like those layout photos, great job on the track and scenery! Thumbs Up [tup]

Luc - Nice photos on the wall in the new diner, thanks! Thumbs Up [tup]

Flash - Nice pics there too, thanks!  Thumbs Up [tup]

Good morning everyone.....wow, you step out of the Diner for a couple of days and 5 pages are added!!!!!  31F here this morning in central Massachusetts highland along the CSX mainline under clear skies. 5 Turkeys this morning walking through the yard headed North. Now those are smart Turkeys to head North, Canada celebrated their Thanksgiving in early October!!

Thought I would get down to the trainroom Saturday, but the weather was so nice the wife decided it would be a great idea to get the wreaths up on the windows outside, and go fetch some fir and pine bows and those little red berry branches for outside holiday decorations before the snow arrives and real bad weather. No problem...I'll get to the Trainroom on Sunday....nay, nay...honorable son #2 calls and his printer won't work and the kids need it for homework project. So I cart the printer over to my house and spend the afternoon fixing that thing. Won't feed paper. All selections were correct, paper was OK, turned out that cleaning the rubber rollers with distilled water did the trick ( they didn't look that dusty or dirty either ).

So today I hope to get down there...

JEFF: I don't think I would trust WalMart again for fresh fish. BTW is your refrig temp set OK? It should be 37F to 42F. Glad you are back in good health Jeff, you had us all worried.

DER JOHN: What great progress you have made on your layout!!! I hope when you are finished ( are we ever really finished?) that you submit your layout to MRR for pub.

JERRY: Funny you mentioned about telling the weather by hearing the distant trains. I remember that also as a boy, especially in winter because I would think a snowstorm was coming and no school the next day.

PAUL: With so many people these days with Type II Diabetes, it isn't only sugar that you have to watch out for, it is the WRONG Carbs!! The body stores all excess for the Carbs that we eat as fat, and in order to do that, the body needs insulin to achieve that. So our bodies can produce just so much and then we run into trouble. I am the 1st generation in the last 5 on my father's side not to get Diabetes by age 50...I have done this by controlling Carbs...they are the bad guys. My count is 82 and still no Diabetes at age 69.

SUE: $5.00 ???????????????? And Mark gets all those great buys ?????????  We need a better explanation Sue !!!!!!!Confused [%-)]  White Cascade?????????Nice Christmas gift idea Sue.

GARRY: Someone sent me a video online of a train in India passing through the station. The whistle blew once and people nearly got killed who were crossing the tracks as this train ripped through doing at least 60.......if they travel that fast through a crowded station, I can only imagine what happens in the bush country with animals crossing the tracks.

All the layout pictures from you guys are just fantastic, what great layouts you guys have, take a bow please !!!Wow!! [wow]Bow [bow]

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! My refrigerator (Kenmore midsize) goes through thermostats like they're candy. I got tired of shelling out fifty bucks for a new thermostat every seven or eight months, so I hard wired it and put it on a timer. The timer runs a cycle. It runs for an hour and a half then shuts down for fifteen minutes. It then repeats the cycle. It's been set up like this for over four years. It maintains a constant thirty-five degrees.

Looks like drinks and snacks are on me. Good thing I carry Visa Gold.

Hello everybody:

Philip......I'm certainly glad Mrs. PC is recovering and your family is able to have Thanksgiving there. We can all guess what heads the list in the prayer of thanks.

Ryan.... Thanks for the comment on the shed. Yes, my railroad does its best to economize. Real railroads have budgets, and so does mne. I always advise people to make a budget and stick to it. Of course, recently, I bout those SD24's, and er, well, ....... not in budget.Whistling [:-^]

Regarding elephants and trains..... perhaps somebody can correct this story, but here's my recallection.... Years ago a circus train was wrecked near Durand, Michigan, and a world famous elephant perished. Out of respect for the deceased pachyderm, the railroad renamed itself to "Grand Trunk". Good morning, Zoe - I might just try that Lumberjack's special, cup of coffee and a tall glass of Ed's OJ, please. Thanks!

Sheesh! It's already 61 F, and only getting to about 68 F by the afternoon - what is it with this weather? Inch, Jerry, Garry, Lee and PC, you may need to get out your short sleeve shirts and shorts tomorrow...Cool [8D]

Garry (or anyone else) what are those Santa Fe diesels in your pic?

I'm no diesel expert, but that looks considerably different from a plain ol' modified GP9 or such, looks newer - but in the older ATSF black-and-white stripe pattern. Confused [%-)] I'm sure it might be custom-made, but I'd like to know about those'uns. Yeah!! [yeah] That one industry in your other pic looks like a cross between a gravel/cement place and a mine, or maybe a different kitmingled cement factory?

Guess somebody must have turned off the bell ringer on the elephant crossing sign in India (or the elephants did like some drivers, and ignored the warning?). Wink [;)] Wonder what kind of damage the loco had from the collision.

Called in to let work know I'd be out today, and (now that the Dr's. office is open) I'll be calling the Dr. to try to get in. Still the head and chest thing, so I'll expect at least some antibiotic, and anything else the Dr. wants to throw at it.

Better get myself to the back table and get breakfast done, then off to the Doc's. Hope everyone else is healing up or healthy.

Blessings,

Okay, after a bit of looking, I found out that's an Alco RSD-15. The design and shape (but not the arrangement of vents and fans on top) reminded me of EMD units, because I'm used to Alco's shape for their diesels being more rounded (or at least different) than EMD locos. Looks like that one is available, but around a couple of hundred...Oops [oops] Ah, well...

Jim....... Santa Fe diesels were Alco's answer to EMD's SD24. Originally, they were painted in Santa Fe's Zebra stripes, but the railroad repainted them to blue and yellow.

Crews called them "Allegators" a play on words that recognized the long noses.

FWIW it looks llike the RSD15 is a low nose version of the RS-11 with all the long hood stuff in the same places. The RS-11 (DL-701) had a high short hood to enclose the steam generator used for passenger service and the low hood makes it much better for short hood forward yard work. Don't remember seeing any low hood RS-11's.  J.R.

Good morning folks. My, you are a chatty bunch.Smile [:)]  Thanks for the words of welcome.  I hadn't realized how many of you don't leave the coffee shop much.  Someone had mentioned my modeling approach.  There's a word for it, CHEAP!  I would love to buy more expensive kits, but the funding isn't there.  For the price of one walthers kit, I can get two model power kits.  Sure, if you slap together the MP kits, they'll look like garbage.  I don't feel bad experimenting on them for fifteen bucks though.  It's the process for me that counts.  Working on those MP kits from my junk pile gave me the confidence to use that company again.    I must say though, if my financial situation improves, I'd replace all of them with laser cut buildings.  Anyway, thanks again for the compliments and the welcome.  I hope you all have a good day.

"TO GO", please and thanks.

Barbara is meeting her sister at the assisted living facility to check on their dad. He has become belligerent and cannot walk. If it is another stroke, he may well end up back in a nursing home. That would be devastating for Barbara who promised him he would never have to go back there. Should know more tonight.

Have enjoyed all the shared photos of late. Inspires me to not give up on having a layout. Just need to make a lot more time & money is all. Did pick up a few more sections of new track yesterday on the bay. My layout will have a combination of unitrack and old sectional type. Would prefer all unitrack but that stuff is soooo expensive.

Have a good day! Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Whistling [:-^]

Thanks Inch,

That is a great idea. I have two drawers above my (3) controlmaster 20s.  I think I should be able to work something out like that.

Great minds think alike,  only mine was asleep.  hahaha.

I'm really glad to hear everyone is feeling better.   That was a rough week for a lot of you.

It is really great to know we have lots of prayer power going for us.

I'm going to try some mountaineering today.  I have cut profile boards out of one inck pink foam and have attached them to the north and east walls. Now I am going to try to drape chicken wire(as it will take shape easily) over these forms and down on to the layout, then cover with plaster cloth and shop towels.  Will keep you informed of my success ?? or failure.  But I think it is going to work quite well. (fingers crossed)...

A very happy Thanksgiving to all south of the 49th.

Next week-end is our "Grey Cup" which is like your "Super Bowl"  Our team, the (Saskatchewan Roughriders) just won the west final yesterday against the British Columbia Lions. 26--17. The big game will be played in Toronto and we will be playing against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. So we are all looking forward to that. I'll have to watch it on the computer at work, but thats better than not seeing it at all. I did the same last night and it worked well.  I think I need a good slap on the head. What am I doing, I'm supposed to be retired and here I am still working and missing these games when I should be at home with my feet up and sipping a rootbeer.

Gotta reconsider this plan, I don't like getting slapped.

Catch ya all later.

Johnboy out.............

I'll have the cheeseburger...

Jim/Garry,

You guys may have been excited about that AT&SF diesel in that photo, but my Keystone Detector noticed that the interlocking tower is a standard PRR design, similar to LEWIS tower or JACKS tower on the PRR Middle Division.  Sweet!

Why would an F7 have those trucks? Is it a rebuild, or were you just playing around with it?Question [?]

So now I think Jeff has an Alco/EMD AF7. So the stirrups must have got in the way of the trucks also.

So I'm back. Haven't been here in a while. I guess we start all over in a new Diner.

Really haven't done much in the way of trains these past few months. I'll see what happens tonight- heading out to the club. There shure is a lot of scenery waiting for me to get back to. My club had the Fall Open house last month and many visitors were hoping to see some additional scenery since the spring show. Mr Beasly was able to make it, was a pleasure to finally meet.

These spots have been this way since March, some members are hoping that I get in gear and get to scenicking again.....

So I think I got my work cut out for me. For those that are new here, I'm recently widowed. This has been my reason for not really caring much about trains these past months. Been doing OK and now it's time to get back in the swing of things, especially the work at the club.... There's many counting on me and have been very understanding.

I'll try to keep you posted on any progess, and maybe you guys can give me a kick once in a while.

Nice to be back...So who's buying......
