Evening folks-trying to call it an early nite but we'll see...going to listen to some tunes before bed.
Cold & wet was the order of the day here with an Alberta Clipper moving through. Usually they come when it's colder, & we get 1-3 in. of snow-but on the + side, they move through fairly quickly-hence the nickname "clipper." It was just warm enough for rain showers with it this time-but still nasty & chilly.
Jim-I did make it to Sebring today & I was very impressed with their layout! I mostly stood around drinking it in & observing. I did take a decent # of pics, but for some reason most came out crappy. Here's a few that came out OK:
What adds to the flavor too is the fact this is in the old Sebring depot along the NS ex PRR main-the trains come pounding by, well heard inside of course! I'll be back again definitely! (Take care of yourself also-& GET SOME REST! (best remedy for a bad cold)
der5997 -agreed, money well spent. In time I'll figure that stuff out-gas is a new thing to me, so I get a little nervous around it. In our favor is the fact the water heater isn't terribly old (1989) & the furnace is brand new (2006). Also, I'm listening to classic country right now, & just finished listening to one of your province's most celebrated natives, Hank Snow & his song "My Nova Scotia Home."
All- I did get some model work in on my ATW ex SM ACF box earlier-finishing the underneath & the couplers, & starting on getting a good finish on the trucks. Now all that's left is wheels, 1 more end, & the roof.
Nite folks!
in a SOUTHERN mug, last cup of the night.
***Jim, sorry you're still fighting that bug. My wife is still coughing too, but less often now. Sending healing thoughts your way. As for my stable, Paints & Miniatures....uh....oh yea, you said trains. Have sold off most of my vintage diesel fleet over the past few years and bought many of the newer N scale steamers available. I am commited to a transition era layout that will also include early steam. (((What can I say, those little N scale RR mechanics must be pretty good at their jobs to keep all those years worth of steam locos running like new))) ........................That being said, there are a half dozen diesels (modern era) that I really want, JUST BECAUSE THEY LOOK COOL, and for no other reason. I blame PCM, Atlas & Kato for making diesels that are so difficult to resist It causes me mental anguish. Maybe I should take them to court and then offer to settle for those locos I want?
***der, looks like both you and Corey picked up some good stuff. I get a kick out of how you place boxes on the layout. Makes perfect sense ofcourse.
***RT, thank you for the offer, but already have one of those in the stable here.
***Mitch, thanks for posting the pics. Love those gentle track curves and the layered bridges and the little people details.
Have a good night all. Rob
Greyfox: We have those lean over gadgets at work for working on car engines. They work great, but they are a little expensive.
Secondhand, those pictures look good, thanks for sharing with the group!
Sunday morning is the Valley Forge High School train show, going to sneak out first thing in the morning and see if I can't score more K2 ore cars for the layout.

der5997, the two models are old model power kits. My brother and I tried to build them almost twenty years ago. The third model is a DPM. I have an extremely limited budget, so I've gone back to my junk pile to see what I could salvage. Here are a couple of before and after shots.

The Shays are nice, but I hear the 0-8-0 is the bomb! Tricky to get a decoder in though, but not impossible. Theres a great thread on it here that you should probably check out. Oh, and I'd buy a few 4-6-0's if they'd come out with them too! I'd like to get a couple (three or six!) of the Russian Decapods too!
On another note, glad to hear the wife is a little better. Been praying for her. Sounds like shes had it rough with that cough.
Mark, nice haul!
Jim, she doesn't care about posting the pic. Her poor leg is like twice it's usual size though!
Der, whats the matter? You know what they say.....no guts, no glory! In this case, the guts have all been cleaned up, but it still looks nasty if you ask me! I have a hard time dealing with it, but, I love her. What can I say? We'll take the prayers though!
Kevin, yeah, it's gettting there! Like I told Jim, that leg is already twice it's usual size. You can already the color coming in.
Mitch, thats some layout! That last shot is awesome!
Howdy!
Kevin says: "Got great news our lawyer has the babies adoption petition and he will file it with probate on Monday which means the adoption should be final before Christmas."
Kevin: That's terrific news! Let us know when the date is firmed up. We'll arange for the marching band. Another parade is in the works!
Jeff ...... Glad you're okay.
Paul ..... Live steam is really good stuff. Any more pictures?
PC .... Uh. That's quite a wound in Mrs. PC's knee. Yikes!
Mitch ... Need photos of the Sebring layout.
Corey .... I like the downtown buildings.
Good night!

Morning, coffee n a couple doughnuts Janie
A dreary start to the day, cold [33], cloudy n foggy and expecting a high around 50 with a NW wind, and maybe a little sun.
JIM, some days the tracks are busy , then other days there might be only 5 or 6 trains [weekends are like that] during the day. Hope that cold gets betters soon, but it sound like bout doc time.
DICK,, in the summer is when we notice the noise most when the windows are open. We've had trains come through that's woke us up during the night, but most the time we don't notice them.
ROB,, thanks, some days I get to see a variety of power than what came through Friday. IC, CN, NS and even SF, WC, GT or SP still in colors.
JOHNBOY,, I'm still on DC too [not changing either] and I'm building my control panel in a drawer for the main lines.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g214/inch53/011-5.jpg
My layout isn't near as big as yours, but it might work for you. Like the pics too.
PC,,, I've seen a lot worse, but it looks like it's healing well. Still keeping ya'll in our thoughts.
HOOPLE, sound like you made a good haul from the show, hope ya have as much luck today.
DER,, sounds like you did ok also, even got lucky with the cars.
KEVIN, good news on the adoption papers. Hope everything goes through in time for a great Xmas present.
MITCH,, that's a fine looking layout there, thank for showing it.
COREY,, yours layout and buildings looks fine too, thanks
Didn't get down to Flat Rock yesterday, Mother decided we needed to go to Effingham, but that was ok too. I had a little luck at the IC/CN yard
I've got a couple more to post laters.

Mornin' all!Got a busy day today. Some of that business is outdoors, but it's only supposed to hit 47 degrees today. Oh well! Tuesday is supposed to hit 67, but I can't wait till then.First things first though! Where's my coffee Chloe?

Hmmmm, ya think?
Good morning diners.
OJ and oatmeal please.
Inch.. thanks for posting photos of Effingham. Intersting striping on CN unit number 6916. It's A WC unit, but I'm not familiar with that paint scheme. I'm more than familiar with the GTW GP38's, and they remind me of my GTW/CN days.
I worked on the layout last night, and spent some time with benchwork to extend the layout.
We had Thai food last night in Murray (a college town). I ate too much.
Time to get ready for church. I'll be back with a full belly because, they will have a Thanksgiving feast after services.
Happy Model Railroading.
Morning, Janie - tall glass of Ed's OJ, glass of milk, cereal, and a JR regular, please. Thanks! Yep, back table again today. And if you would bring me the spray disinfectant when I'm done, that would be good, too. Thanks again.
Paul and Mitch, I have been getting some of my crud loosened up. Hacked up some of the junk this morning, and I plan to be resting a lot today. I dearly would love to get this thing rested/coughed out by tomorrow a.m. or I may have to call the Dr. Unfortunately, our work health coverage is a joke - $25 copay on doctor's office visits, which is an annoyance (used to be lower). The killer is the deductible, which is $2500 (of which the company will reimburse us $500). And the admin. has notified us that the premiums are going up in 2008 for this 'privilege'... Idiot admin. types must have one heckuva sweetheart deal with the insurance broker... Catch-22 is, when I checked about outside coverage earlier this year, there is that 'pre-existing condition' clause for new policies (which means my history of bronchitis, possible diverticulitis and glaucoma would NOT be covered if I got a new coverage - not even for my medications on any prescription coverage) ... I sent an email to our company's financial officer (who sent out the memo about the increase for next year) and suggested that if the broker can't find us any better coverage than that, 'perhaps' we should be checking out new brokers. (Fat chance of that!)
But yes, I will be having it looked at if this thing hasn't faded away by tomorrow a.m., and I will get plenty of fluids and resting up today. Hate being sick...
Mitch, great pics from the Sebring show - whoever built that layout did one terrific job. I'd say even if you didn't find any bargains to buy, the trip was worth it for stirring up your creative juices. Oh, and ditto Garry's request about pics...
Kevin, hope all goes through smooth as silk on the adoption for your family. How old is the tyke, and have you shown him some train stuff yet? Want to show him all the benefits of being in a MRR family, right?
PC, good to hear you don't have to worry about your CFO going after you for the picture link.

As this Diner (me) - who never posts any long posts - might say, "No comment..."
Corey - Model Power buildings! No wonder I didn't recognize them - haven't seen much of their buildings (kits) up close in a long while. Hobby Lobby only carries their built-ups, and the LHS and fairly-LHS carry either Atlas or Walthers kits. Having the different brands adds some more variety to the look of your towns, and you did a good job of 'upgrading' the details and adding the weathering.
Going to finish up my breakfast and head home for a nap. Prayers for those in need of healing (including myself, yes).
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
I thought that I would provide homemade waffles for everyone to CELEBRATE my official status as a blabbermouth. Do you think 1000 posts qualify?
WAFFLES FOR EVERYONE ON ME.
Mark, I hope that you saved a few bargains for us.
Rob, As much as I like shays, Protos are usually nice.
Mitch, Great layout photos. Things look very natural.
Corey, I like the before and after photos.
I need to go remake my list of car numbers to take to the train show. Just in case we find some good buys. We wouldn't want to have any duplicates.
Sue

I made no posts in my first year, so have only been posting for two and a half years.

Aw 'cmon....give her some credit. The girl has 1000 posts in a year and a half, a family and a job, and she has a MRR mag next to her waffles! She's pretty hard core if you ask me!
Morning all.
I looked around to find some suitable pics to decorate the new place. I came up with 3. Hope you enjoy them.
Wishing you a great day
in a ATSF mug & some of Sue's waffles,
please & thank you!
***Jeffrey, as an experiment, if blood sugar was the cause, would eating some cookies correct it or make it worse? I know nothing about that stuff but was tested some years ago as borderline diabetic, (like most Americans). I forgot, what type of track do you use on your layout?
NEWS FLASH: While Barbara was working in the ER last night, she got a call that her Dad had another stroke. She left work and met the EMTs who refused to bring him to the local hospital where Barbara works (lass than 5 minutes away). So she followed them to a further hospital only to get a call from them saying now they were taking him to Atlanta. (a good hour away). Turned out he had a bad seizure and hit his head on the way down, but no new stroke. Good thing Barbara had him taken off blood thinners or that could have been the end of him. He has a HUGE hematoma on his head. Story goes on...MIL is NUTS...etc...
Have made no decisions on which treasure to pick up next. Could have a NW2 plus another diesel for the same price as just one Shay or one Proto 0-8-0. OR, I could keep saving for one of those PCM E7's or E8's with all those bells and whisles...or should I say bells & horns. I want to win the Lottery!
Off to do critter rounds. Rob
***Luc, AWESOME pics! Thanks for sharing those. Any more?

As to your other question, I use Bachmann nickel silver EZ-Track.
I went out to the Valley Forge High School (Parma, OH) for their train show this morning.
Very nice, there was operating; 0-gage, N-scale, and a garden scale layouts. Vendors prices were more than fair ; $1 for brass turnouts, built up buildings for under $10, and used rolling stock for $2/car. There was a brass HO vendor there with reasonable prices as well $210.00 for a BL2 custom brass (used), brass cabooses starting at $50 with custom paint jobs. This was primarily a N-scale & O-gage show.

Found some pics on my Comp from a running day at the Naptown White River Club, where I got to run a friend's sounded Kato. We've been making some changes, soem of which you can see here. 20 shots, beware.

Diners:
Late lunch today as it’s after church. Pork roast, with carrots, parsnips and broccoli. Roast potatoes and gravy too. Oh, and since we were out of store bought apple sauce, a Johnagold cut up and nuked, topped with cinnamon. Rice pudding for dessert (not my personal fav., but Kris’ mother makes and likes it, so every so often she does one, and today’s the day.) I’ll have to walk it off as it always elevates my blood sugar too much. Just have to suck that up, because if I mentioned it, she’d stop making it, and deprive herself of the pleasure it gives her. She’s that sort of a person.
Rob: Speaking of blood sugar, I agree with Jeff. I’d add that if it’s an eyesight symptom thing then I wouldn’t, myself, be having the sweet foods. Get onto the American Diabetes Association web site and get yourself some good info. I’d say that a blood test at two hours after a pretty much normal meal will tell how your body has handled that carbohydrate load. This is not to be ignored, if you want a long life. BTW
borderline diabetic
CapeJim: I’ve just ordered my 3rd Model Power Malden Station building kit through the Walthers’ catalogue.
Mitch:
& just finished listening to one of your province's most celebrated natives, Hank Snow & his song "My Nova Scotia Home."
Corey: Those store front bashes are brilliant. I like especially the air conditioner over the pillar between those two big windows, and the grungy weathering too.
Sue: Thanks for the waffles!
Got to get walking. TTFN.
"There are always alternatives, Captain" - Spock.
Afternoon, Janie - oh, I missed Sue's waffle special for brunch? Well, next time, please call me. Don't want to miss that again, nosiree! Let me have a tall root beer float, please. Thank you!

Rob, depending on your skills at installing decoders in tight places, the Proto 0-8-0 or the diesels will likely have more room for installing a decoder in there. I love Shays (have a two-truck one myself), but I will be paying one of our club members for the installation once I go DCC. Those Shays're cute, though! Glad things didn't turn out as bad as originally thought on Barbara's Dad. Is he on medication for the seizures, or was this something new and not expected? Prayers for him and the team working on him.
DerJohn, I didn't mean that the Model Power kits weren't available, just that I haven't seen them in the flesh (so to speak) - 'cause the local folks either carry built-ups of Model Power, or don't carry them at all. I've seen the MP stuff in the catalog. In fact, I have MP's BORS Coaling tower kit. Just don't have a big enough space to put it right now (until I get more added onto my layout) so I'm waiting on the assembly.
Flashwave, you might pace yourself on the photos in a post, since there are a few (even of our regulars) who are still on dial-up and would take a while for that page to load. Better to break 'em up into 3-5 of your best ones at a time. Just my - I can still remember the crawl that is dial-up... But those were sure some pretty locos!
Been taking it easy and getting liquids into me today. My temp drops in the morning, but seems to peak around bedtime.
Think I'll work on my float a while and see who comes in.
And I see why everyone's been hiding away from the Diner, you rascals. Okay, Janie, special on ice cream (or yogurt) floats for everyone, since I'm paying!
Blessings and prayers,
Just got home from the train show. We only spent $5. Mark must have found all the buys. We picked up a couple of latex rubber sheets of brick for streets and sidewalks.
If there is any root beer left, I would like a float. Did everyone have efficient layout time today?
Rob: About those boxes on the layout, the intention is that they will all be covered with building mock-ups, and in the distant future those will be replaced with styrene structures. All these buildings have box cores.
Sue:
Did everyone have efficient layout time today?
I also decided that there wasn’t going to be enough room for the Kalmar Container Handler I have on order (Wiking in N, Cornerstone does one in HO) It’s basically a big fork lift type of vehicle that can carry and stack containers. Anyway, I just sat down from adding a slice of foam board to the back of the dock. It comes very close to the mainline. So close that I had to cut out a small rectangle to allow for a crossover turnout throw bar! However, encouraged in this non-prototypicality by the remarks here the other day about such things, it’s going to be that way on this railroad.
I’ll paint it concrete after tea and dessert.
CapeJim: Liked your frog, was it yesterday? Here’s one that’s just waiting for us to get the high speed tomorrow. And yes, you were right about those 20 photos of Corey’s. However, I find that if I wait for several trips into the Diner following posts like that, they load very much more quickly.
BTW, Corey, they were worth the wait. That Atlas Arch bridge looked familiar in its setting. I used one as a road bridge on my last HO layout in just the same way. (The locos and passenger cars in this shot were later repainted for the Athabasca and Western RR, my fictional Alberta road. A&W, Route of the bears. So naturally the scheme was Brown and Orange! ) Here’s the general loco scheme. Here’s a C-Liner and a F-something B unit heading a different set of passenger cars.
While we’re on that layout, someone was wondering the other day about having to do the scenery under a trestle before rather than after putting the trestle in. I chose that route on the A&W. The trestle remained the only sceniced portion for some time, but I was glad I didn’t have to fiddle about once the trestle was in place.
Well, the first coat of concrete paint is drying on the new bit of dock. A few more square inches of blue foam desert have been covered too.
I’m going to say all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort (the Bakers) and peace.
