Thanks for the welcome.  I worked at one my friend's bookstore for a few months that had a coffee shop.  We were required to know the coffee shop area.  You'd be amazed at what people would order.  As far as modeling, I model HO, 1920's, middle of nowhere Western Wisconsin.  My style is shoot from the hip.  I'm eight months into my first layout and I already know what I would do differently.  All along this journey, I've set my standards pretty low.   That way if I meet my expectations, I'm happy.  If I exceed them, then that's great too.  I really get a kick out of building scenery.  This is why there are many many loops in my railroad's future.  Thanks again for the welcome.

I only noticed one thread locked on the whole Model Railroader forum......the old diner.

Phil, he also locked Electrolove's phone call from Sweden thread.

I have a feeling things may get animated this weekend around here...  ...just a feelin'!

I like throwing some odd-balls out there. A GP38-2 and an F7 with Alco trucks, a GP50 with two cooling fans on the dynamic brake housing instead of one, a SD40-2 with a GE cab and a streamlined observation car relegated to MoW service as the MoW supervisors personal car. If someone doesn't like it, that's their problem. It's my layout. I have my own 'Modelers License' hung on the wall saying 'Be it hereby proclaimed that Jeffrey Wimberly is duly entitled to twist, turn and pervert railroad reality at his discrestion in order to achieve complete satisfaction in the pursuit of model railroad nirvana', presented on the 14th day of January, 2006.

Jeff it's good to see your fun with mixes and matches.  If you can find pictures of old Rock Island or old katy locomotives you may find ideas for more creations. Also, the old Mexican diesels were also kitbashed creations. I remember the Alaska RR GP7's on Alco trucks too. Penn Central had some weird engines, too. Keep it up.

Darn, we didn't even make it 1 full year in the old diner.

RT: Did you get my post about curves this morning?

Jeffery:  Keep those pictures coming; your layout is looking good.

All:  Sorry still kind of busy for us Coast Guard guys and I can't keep up with all the posts until the big pond freezes over.

We had snow here this morning, but only a trace amount. Yesterday we had ‘thunder snow" mixed with rain, sleet, hail, and freezing rain.  So you guys in Main are not that special, we get the grand sampler pack of weather to choose from in the late fall. Smile [:)]

Last I heard about him was that he is not really doing trains anymore because of health problems he had . Him and the misses are taking it easy and slowing down. He had cancer and I believe i heard they got it all but you never really know. Theres a mamber on the clasic toy train forum that calls him once in a while. (goes by the name chief)

***Lee, Thunder Snow is very cool. Only experienced it twice here on the ol' farm. And one of those times it turned into an ice storm so by the next day it sounded like the 4th Of July in the forest behind us.

That vintage cow & calf loco combo sold tonight for enough to pay for 2/3rds of a new Kato NW2. (I can live with that) Now just need to figure out how to come up with the remaining 1/3rd.Confused [%-)]

Anyone know where the cheapest place is to by an oval of Bachmann (HO) ez-track? I need it for wife's table layout.

Good Evening All,

Hope Jeff is doing ok - nasty business all that. He he we're up to three pages first day and all. At least the diner still has trucks that are certified under it so we can move at a moments notice. Don't know how the web works, but 10,000 responses a year (we were well on our way there as of yesterday) is probably a lot more load than the site wants to carry. Are there any other sites or threads on this whole arrangement that even come close to our traffic?

Philosophy 101 seond semester: operating.

As i was running trains tonight (nothing like a noisy steam locomotive to inspire you) it occured to me that steam engines attached to passenger cars are a fair bit more finicky to run than freights. That said, the prototype I'm modelling had(has) as much passenger traffic as it had freight at least in the non wartime years and besides I like passengert cars. Regretably I will probably have to fill in my swing bridge once construction is further along as I just can't get passenger cars to traverse the cuts reliably. Just won't happen and I don't want to spend the first hour of every evening doing track w..k. Problem is the swing bridge is on curved sections of track with no way to change the configuration and even the little bit of expansion and contraction I get is enough to mess things up (we're talking about less than .020") on an 89' car with three axel trucks. Add to that the fact that i have elevation changes like the prototype has in real life and you can get a mess (sorry Fergie) in a hurry. So at some point I'll solder the cuts back together and file them smooth and get a glider to duck under the tracks (four on two levels). Try as I might I can't see any way to get a gate installed on a straight section but it just kills me to admit defeat. But other than that life is good. anyone else have these issues?

Set me up with a root beer float if you will please Chloe and I'll have my cake and eat it too. Just gonna sit back here for a spell and ruminate on my predicament.   CUL,Banged Head [banghead]J.R.

Ok guys. Here it is. Jeff has food poisoning. It seems that some fish he ate today had been around a little too long. They made him throw it up and his temp is back down to 99.5. He should be back home tonight. I have his bed ready for him and he is going to go to bed as soon as he gets home even if my mom has to come over and pop him with her rolling pin.

Evening Gang: The new diner was just opened and already we have 3 pages. At this rate it won't be long to Diner 3.

Not much got done today. I spent the morning at the GP and the afternoon at the VA. We stopped and got a bite to eat on the way home and then went to Barbers Book Store and picked up Vol. 1 of Pinky and The Brain and Vol. 1 of Black Adder. That should keep us entertained for a bit. Television has been a bit uninteresting lately.

David, I'll add my thanks to you and your family for taking care of Jeff. Food poisoning is not something to be taken lightly.

Looks like it's time to hit the hay.

Good Night All

Hello guys, I'm back home and feeling much like my normal self, but I'm extremely tired, so I'm heading off to bed. Special thanks to David and his father for their help. They wanted to keep me in the hospital for a day or two but I told them no way. See y'all later.

Good evening Diners:  I hope the staff in our new location are better than the new waitress we had at lunch today in the real world.  Rude, untrained, uninterested, slow as molasses on a winter’s morning…..

Any typos that creep in to this today may be put down to the fact that I’m trying to type on the keyboard pushed away from the front of its shelf while reaching over two sections of foam board that are being glued together at the front of the shelf, along with mounting blocks, etc. glued and clamped to it.  The shelf is the only free flat space of sufficient size I have at the moment.  The foam board, when finished, will be the base onto which the container dock’s steel pilings and associated ocean will be put.  How’s that for dedication to the hobby?

Ryan:

Der John - In answer to your question, the spacing for the expansion joints grid in HO scale are approximately a scale 10' X 12' apart.
…Thanks, that’s just what I needed to know…now, where is Northern Phil’s trusty pencil?...

Corey: Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

I'll have a double mocha soy chai tea peppermint schnapps's alfredo cappuccino!
…you can have that too! In fact virtually anything you can dream up, the girls and their cousin Vinnie can serve up.
Has anyone else noticed the stepped up enforcement?
…I only come in to the diner, and very rarely go to any other topic. Here you will find friendship, support, a whole bunch of mrr stuff and advice in a good natured no-police-needed atmosphere catering with sensitivity to both genders, and ages from early teens to seniors. Enjoy.(Much as Dick and CapeJim have said, in fact.)
I've set my standards pretty low.   That way if I meet my expectations, I'm happy.  If I exceed them, then that's great too.
…sounds like you have a great future on Wall Street!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Any chance of seeing photos of your layout?

Garry: Nice speeder shed.  Got to love those scrap box surprises!

TA462: Greeting from Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore!

Where is Elliott???  I can't remember the last time he posted here.
… As I recall when his original Coffee Shop closed at the end of 2006, there was talk of health issues. (Ah, I see RT is on the case!)

Jeff:  Hope that fever gets knocked down PDQ. Good to have neighbours like David and his family.Angel [angel] (later)…I see it was bad fish…reminds me of a time when I was a kid.  We had no refrigeration, it was post war England. My mother had some herring roes stored on the “meat safe” under the stairs.  I opened the door to that area and saw they were glowing in the dark!

Kudos on the Modeler’s Licence.  Not unlike Teffy’s Mistletoe on shirt tail sign. Good thinking.Thumbs Up [tup]

Rob:

Anyone know where the cheapest place is to by an oval of Bachmann (HO) ez-track? I need it for wife's table layout.
…I’ve not tried it, but have been told about kijiji...try Google on that.

Now I’ve got the container dock coming along, I’m left with a piece of the scene that I didn’t know what to do with, and also a crane I bought that I’ve no further use for. So, I’ve put the two together as a disused portion of dock. Disused since the development of the port, that is.  Here’s the arrangement roughed out. I’ve got a lot of detail to do on it some time. The “cover the blue desert” project is job one.

Sorry, but Photobucket is up to its recent tricks of crashing my Netscape when I copy an image code! I’ll open up on Explorer and see if I can get it in. Those white boxes will morph into a lco maintenance facility that belongs in the previous scene, part of my “Timesaver.”

Time for bed. Earlier start tomorrow to get things done on the way to town before the Train Show.Yeah!! [yeah]

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

DAVID: I am happy to hear that you and your dad are looking after your friend Jeff. There is a terrible new strain of the common cold that has killed 10 people already, it is not very contagious thank God, but it hits people with compromised immune systems in particular, so it bears watching.

Hey folks-just a quick "cuppa" (as my Aussie friends would say)

Thoughts to all who's health hasn't been the best here.

Been another goofy week as a 1st time homeowner. Tues. morning we woke up to no hot water. We checked things out, & turned out the hot water heater's pilot light wouldn't stay lit. I made some phone calls, & got a serviceman to come out. Turned out the thermocoupling needed replaced. $7 something part, $45 service call. (BLAH!) Talked to our janitor at work & he said it was an easy do it yourself fix, but being a country boy & having no previous gas experience (fuel oil) I decided to err on the side of caution & pay the $, or take the chance of blowing the house up. (I'll learn how for the next time Wink [;)])

Woke up this morning to 1st light snow cover (yikes!) Did the "take a train to work"  thing today with my latest freight car project-nothing but positive comments.

Sheez-I better hit bed-I want to hit the LHS tomorrow for paint, then onto Sebring for the MR layout open house there-I need some inspiration for mine (rough dimensions laid out w/masking tape for mine on the floor in the basement.)

Have a great weekend everyone!
