Track question: If a given section of track is going to see little use, is there any reason not to use regular steel in those areas instead of NS track? Thanks!

We should have heard from Jeffrey by now. Frustrating not knowing anything.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, we sure did.

Speaking of remembering our military folk, the other night I sent an e-card to...well, just to the guys and gals serving, a friend forwarded me a mail from Xerox, you choose a card and a message, and they e mail them to our troops. The cards look like they are all designed by kids, and the one I picked has a NS steam engine- at least I think thats what it is, it has the NS logo and the horse on it- drawn by an 11 year old in Georgia, if I remember right. Seemed legit, not like some of the "mail a card to a sick soldier"  deal that went around a bit ago.

And indeed, it looks like winter is here, it was a cold, and at times, blustery day. Yesterday started off in the 60's, then the rains came and the temps dropped like a shoe. Or something else that drops fast. Not as good with those as I once was!

Everyone have a great weekend, and we'll check back next week!

The steel track can be tough to keep clean as it tends to oxidize a lot.  Other then that, no.

Mornin' all...!

Looking forward to a week of turkey leftovers... Turkey sandwiches, turkey salad, turkey fried rice, pulled turkey BBQ, etc...

Thanks to all who pointed out the series on the N acle PRR I1sa 2-10-0 in Railroad Model Craftsman.  As it turns out, not only have I been reading these articles (I love RMC), but I've been communicating with the author regularly on ideas for my M1 project.  There is a small cadre of us Pennsy steam heads in N.

Hope everyone had a great holiday!  Here's hoping Jeff's doing okay.

Morning, Zoe - just a cup of mocha to go, please. Thanks!

Checking in to see if anyone had heard from Jeff or young David, before I go do laundry. Will be praying for word on Jeff soon (hopefully, that he is coming home today or tomorrow?). Angel [angel]

Cold out - only 31 F for us here, with a 7 mph breeze and wind chill of 24. Got to buy a new 'sock cap' (or whatever those ones you pull on your head are; had one of those in the Navy and it's about the only hat/cap I wear regularly - in the winter). Lost my old cap somewhere on Wednesday, I think it was.

Mornin, just coffee please Zoe.

Hope every one had a good turkey day. It was ok for me; Mother had me doing chores around the house, than we went out to my MIL's for supper. Of course we had to much to eat. Jamie and hers [minus SIL, had to work today] come in from Girard last night and will be here till tomorrow. Which is good, cause she can help Mother today around the house.

Still nothing from JEFF, and I thought about trying to E-mail David, but I think he uses Jeff computer to post. So he may not be able to check in and let us know anything.

JERRY,,,, how'ed things go with all the bodies in that small place??

DAVE,, we never had a train round the tree when I was growing up, but I did get an HO set for Christmas when I was 9 and played it for several years. I've still got some of the cars I run from that set.

LEE,, I do think of you folk most everyday, but for some reason just don't say much. We've had family in an out of the war zones, most made it ok, but sadly a few didn't.

I've got all the Athern JD series, mostly the older G and B's, that will go onto flat cars when the time comes.

JIM CG,, glad your getting some better, bout time. We seen some snowflakes on the way home last night but that's all. Jamie said they had some sleet n snow flurries at home yesterday, but nothing much.

Well best get moving on chores afore I get into trouble. I do figure I'll get some train room time for a bit today, before most the bodies get here for supper. Hope ya'll gas a gooden n stay safe

Greetings from Nashville.

Except for Jeff, I see everone had a good Thanksgiving. It was a good one here also.

I, too, am fearful that Jeff may have a mojor problem.

Dave V. ...I'm wondering if you have been involved in Keystone Modelers group. I became a little familiar with them a couple of years ago. I did a little PRR modeling and rebuilt a Bowser T-1 junker into a decent locomotive, Keystone Modelers had a great article in their on-line publication that was quite helpful. Passengers connecting from my line to Penssy now travel in style.

We're leaving very shortly for Alabama.

Best wishes

Good Morning All,

Hope everyone had a good turkey day. We were running all day between having dinner at home and then a second dinner with our oldest sons fiances'  family. Wish we'd hear something about Jeff. I worry as one of my cousins had diabetes and ended up with all sorts of dramas. He passed while I was in the navy and in a place where we were out of touch so I didn't find out until after the funeral.

Lee, we do think of our service people at holiday times - many of us have been there ourselves far from home and family so we can sympathize.

Spending time in the shop today trying to catch up some projects and do some stuff for the house as well.  I'll stop in from time to time.    CUL, J.R.

Morning Gang: I just stopped in to see if anyone had heard from or about Jeff. Prayers are still going his way.

We got back from breakfast and now it's time to get to work. I have to put out a bale of hay for the heifers and then get back to work on the fences. We had just a touch of snow. Officialy .1inch. It stayed on the grass but not the roads and bare ground. It's gone now.

I'd better get going. See you all later.

Greetings folks.  I hope everyone had a good turkey day.  For those of you from the rest of the world, I hope you had a swell Thursday.  I was at the in-laws for Thanksgiving.  My father in-law had mentioned a while back that he had an American Flyer train set from his childhood.  I asked him if he would show it to me the other day.  He has all of the cars and scenery in their original boxes.  It was so cool, I was like a kid opening a present on Christmas.  He said that it doesn't run anymore.  I volunteered to help him.  Not that I know much about toy trains.  I figured if he took me up on it, I'd find a way to learn how to fix it.  Nobody else could figure out why we were so excited to look at old toys.  The look on my father in-laws face when he opened the box was heart warming.  You could tell that it brought back a lot of memories.  He's one of the few in my family that really appreciates the modeling that I've done.

On a modeling note: I have  recently commandeered a light blue, king size bed sheet from the linen closet.  I hope to use this to cover that ugly fabric on the train room walls.  In the future, I plan to try and paint my own backdrop.  This new fabric will help me be patient enough to take my time in developing the skills necessary to paint a proper backdrop.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Afternoon, Zoe, just a go cup, please. Okay, a cheeseburger to go also - no, not as big as those huge dagwood ones, I'm not quite that hungry! Thank you, ma'am.

Sounds like Thanksgiving was pretty good for most - now, if we could get word on Jeffrey, it'd be all good. Good to hear from you two again, Chuck & Kathy! LHS trip, huh? Have you given 'the good looking one' your Christmas list already? Wink [;)] Hope it's a productive trip for both of you.

Jerry, the chicken was pretty good. I even have one of the three I fixed left to fix today or tomorrow. If I'd had some mozzarella cheese, it would have been even better, but this was a 'throwtogether' recipe, based on what I found I had in the fridge and cupboard. (After I found I didn't have the cream of mushroom soup I *thought* I had) Well, add that to the shopping list for next grocery run... Maybe you'll get some test track time for your BL2 over the weekend. Yeah!! [yeah]

Discovered our apartment building's front door is not exactly working. It wouldn't open - I finally got a hefty screwdriver and got the thing open, and found part of the problem is that the handles don't turn the latch mechanism. Shock [:O] It also had the plate on the door kind of bent at the corner, but my hammer fixed that. Smile [:)] I then called the landlord and left him a message, but he might be out of town, just got the machine. Luckily, we have a back entrance also that still works. I left the door not quite latched, but close to closed. Dick, I'd have put in a suggestion for the landlord go to Home Depot (and keep you in that reserved parking spot up front), but we don't have one in town. Go figure! You want me to get you the number for our Chamber of Commerce so you can s'plain it to them? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

This morning, I took an inventory of all my structure kits that I have yet to assemble. About 35-36 kits, plus a number of DPM and Walthers modules for various building ideas! Shock [:O] Y'know, I think I need to be holding off on new structure purchases for now - don't even have room enough in a spare-room-sized layout for all of those! Oops [oops] Guess my eyes got too big for my assembling speed...

Well, I'd best get going - heading for the LHS to see if they have the books I'd asked them about in yet (and use my coupon for this month)Smile [:)] But no structure kits, no siree, none, nada, zip... Whistling [:-^] Whistling [:-^] Whistling [:-^]

I'll check back in later to see about any news on Jeffrey and all. Prayers continuing.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Sigh [sigh]

Hi Gang,

I need a late lunch today. How about the house special ?? Chloe, that will do just fine. Rootbeer to follow.

We have a had a few laughs over the years with that "Where's Waldo" thing. Picture, books etc.  But this "Where's Jeffery" is really bothering me. Sure wish someone would have a contact with him.  Can't get him off my mind.  Prayers and healing blessings to you Jeff.

Just picked up a low heat glue gun as when I get close to the foam with the other one the foam disappears.   Those big staples I told you about to hold the mesh to the profile boards seem to work pretty good.  When you form the mesh, some of the staples want to move out a little so I thought I would put a spot of hot glue on the top of them to hold them down. That is when the foam disappeared.  Good deal on the glue gun though. There was no price on it and the store manager said that was his mistake and only charged me a buck for it. so with some low temp glue I was out of there for under $3.00.  Have to replace a set of trucks on an open hopper too that has been giving me some grief. I picked them up today as well as a spare set to have on hand.

Still snowing here today, but not really that much. But I don't think it will be leaving any time soon either.

Hope none of you need the Bromo after yesterday. and the you are all Happy and Well.

Before my day off gets completly away from me , I had better get at it.

Good Evening All,

Getting ready to head home. Got some stuff done and a bit tidied up and a new radiator mostly done for my Lotus 7 so a good day. Now if we could hear some good news about Jeff it would be a great day.

The staple idea sounds good Johnboy. I ended up using drywall screws through the foam and white glue over that. So far so good.

And Corey - you can never have enough structure kits. You never know whatt'l actually fit and if you pass them up you know they'll be on intergalactic backorder when you finally do decide to get them. I'll check in later on from home.   CUL, J.R.

I went to http://www.whitepages.com/ and put in Jeffery Wimberly in Leesville, LA. and it gave me his number which I called. Hes doing fine but hes in the hospital after having his foot operated on. Told elbert (i guess brother or some relation as listed on the info for contacting him) we were all looking and wondering where he was and how he was doing. He has not been given a release date yet from the hospital. Told elbert that there were a lot of us wondering about him and how he was doing. said fine and will be back and on the forum as soon as possible.

Don't get me wrong, I have a European style building without a home.  My mother bought if for me at a hobby shop going out of business sale.  It doesn't look right in my town area, so up on the hill it goes.  One of these days I'm going to come up with a story for why there is a pub on the hill above the mine.   I was just laughing at stockpiling of building kits.
