Good Morning from Tipton IN !

Good Morning, Diners! Everyone stuffed like the Thanksgiving turkey was on last Thursday? Sounds like several of you had a good holiday/weekend. Zoe, how about a cup of coffee and one of those chocolate donuts, please? Thanks!

I hope all this second guessing isn't getting to you.

Paul, if I'm understanding you right (I'm visually oriented), your suggestion is to move the mainline and turnouts further right, right? I'd been wanting to not move them too far to the right so that I could have a swing-out section (door in lower right corner), and if I move the track much further to the right, I may not have room to open the door and get to the swing-out. But I think I would agree with you and PC about trying moving the turnouts (that lead off the mains)to the upper end so the reach to the mine area isn't so far. I like the 2 leads to the turntable just so engines don't do lots of backtracking to get to one or the other end of the passing siding. Not a problem with the second guessing (other than my trying to understand what's meant at times, as I said - I'm visual, you sometimes have to draw me a map...).
Probably what I'll need is to strip everything out but the turntable, mainlines and the existing track that I have on that one end, and sketch a bit to see what changes (as you and PC mentioned) I could do that would balance decent curves on the main and then arrange the rest of my industries where the easiest way to get track to them would be. We'll see what I can do. Tonight is MRR club, though, and I have an order coming in.
Cold and damp today - about 41 F when I got up, with 7 mph NNE winds and slight rain. Supposed to be 60 percent chance of rain today. Paul, how's the rain over your way? Stopped yet?
Better get back to the grind here at w**k. See you all later.
Blessings on your week,

***der, don't know if a 3rd stack will be required, although visually 1 or 3 is usually more appealing than 2, from an artistic stand point. Trying to remember, does the Woods Furniture kit have a stack also? I'm using that for the main plant structure. Regardless, thanks for the kind offer. Time will tell I guess.
Cold & wet here this morning with more rain on the way. Need to go give out the last of the hay. Have a great day all.
afternoon.
well my home comp is on it's last legs. It's got a second virus and had a minor crash if you can it that. it's up and running but not very well.
oh and btw.
my 3.5x5ft folding table is comming along nicly. I have the frame of half the table all put together but it's missing the bracing. It looks bigger than I thought it would. when it's done I'll get pics. up here. I'm liking the way it's comming together!!!!
Good afternoon Folks: A green tea please Zoe, Thanks. Looks like it's my round, so folks, what's your pleasure?
Johnboy: Many congratulations on The Rough Riders’ Grey Cup Victory! It was a good game to watch, and that insurance interception in the dieing minutes was a beautiful thing. Sounds like I was watching, but I was upstairs working on the layout and listening to Kris’ whoops and hollers at every RR touchdown. Saw the last three minutes (clock time), so that included that interception. For once the “Wood Sports Jinx” didn’t kick in (denizens of the Coffee Shop may remember the Green Bay Packer curse) which is a good thing as we were rooting for the RRs because of our friend in Edmonton, as well as knowing that you were somewhat interested in the outcome!

Mike: Good to see the tracks in the yard without all the traffic. Makes a change for those wanting to get those details! What’s the newly ballasted track separate from all the others (lhs of the first photo.)?

COLBY: Do you have an antivirus program on your PC? If so, is it up to date? Also, do you have WEBROOT SpySweeper, or similar program on your PC? If not, you had better get one. Many people don't think they can afford to spend $29 for this program, but just think of what it will cost to fix your PC when you get a Virus or a Trojan Horse Malware on your system?

I made the assumption that those were 12" squares. By moving the sidings the table edge could be closer to the back corner and therefore the reach would be shorter. It looked close to 30" to me but I didn't measure it exactly.
Jim,
My fiance, Judy, is a Master Gardener. She is interested in the Master Gardener aspect of Garden Railroading. She thinks my yard has "potential." I.e. get out the big check book!

Afternoon all, just a to-go cup Zoe.
The house is quiet right now, no kids, and Deb won't be home for a couple hours yet. Worked on the layout some yesterday while watching the games, since the rain came in bout 10 hours earlier than forecast. I did manage to fix a couple bugs even and started laying out the yard tracks.

That's the 1,100-foot inter-change track for the Effingham RR and IC/CN. Built bout 4 years ago or so.
Best get back to some chores so I can play tonight some

Jeff is back and sounding like his ole self. Let the party roll.
Evening Gang and especially Jeff. Not much going on here. I moved all the last years hay down to the lower hay lot. Now I can get to it with the new tractor. John came and got his tractor and will take it out to his place to haul hay in from the fields. We may haul the new tractor out Wednesday. We need to see if the truck will handle it also.
JimCG: The turnouts I was talking about are in the lower right below the depot. Move them toward the depot and that should let you have a swing out for entry with only one track on it.
Well I think that I'll head out and see what else is going on.
Good Night All
***Jeff, WELCOME BACK! Great to hear you (& the Docs) were able to beat that infection off. You had us all worried about you.
***Steve, your fiance is a Master Gardner...that's great for you and a garden RR. My wife & I have grey thumbs. Of course having free roaming Pygmy goats doesn't help any.
***Colby, since I have been using Trend Micro PC-cillin (a bit pricey) over the past number of years, my puter has remained virus free. And to remove any spyware & other junk this program might miss, I use the FREE version of Ad-Aware SE Personal. I highly recommend both of these.
JAMBO: My favorite little black manx kitty (Jambo) got his front foot stepped on by our stallion (complete accident). Wife & I went out to pick up supplies to cast it, only to find upon returning home Jambo was sorta putting weight on it. Sooo, no cast. We will keep an eye on him and see how he does. Ouch, poor kitty.
LOTS of rain here and the ground is actually saturated at the moment...real mud!

Welcome Back Jeff! Glad to hear everything is getting better. Up here in Ohio there has been some pretty bad outbreaks of Staph infections, some serious enough to kill. I'm glad you caught yours in time and had it healed in good order.

I'll definatly try and get the club to let me haul a 320 car train with my big boy and challenger teamed up, although I highly doubt theres enough room.

Welcome back, Jeff!
My N scale Pennsy M1 4-8-2 kitbash proceeds... The tender is on its way to being done:
This "foobie" PRR 210F75 long-haul tender was kitbashed by splicing together two 110P75a tender shells from the old Minitrix K4 (Model Power has leftover Minitrix K4 parts in stock). The tender floor is stretched from a ConCor J3a tender (it has the correct 6-wheel trucks and water scoop). I ended up having to shave off some rivets and reapply them in the correct vertical position (the 110P75s has rivets along the slope sheet; the 210F75 does not). Scratchbuilt a new deck, tank hatches, and doghouse from styrene, and finished it with a Trainphone antenna system with scracthbuilt induction coils.
I'll put a DZ123 decoder in the tender.
The 4-8-2 to haul this tender shipped today... I'll be trying to turn a Spectrum Light Mountain into a brutish PRR M1 (#6811, one of the 1926 Baldwins).

Hey Jeff, good to see you back home! Staph infection…they can be tough to treat all right. Very glad it wasn’t worse. The “no feeling” plus “grey colour” had us really imagining dire things.
CapeJim: You asked how I made my roads with the AMI material. The best way to show you is to show you the parking lot of that station which I did this evening. OK, except in rush hour a road isn’t the same as a parking lot, but the basic construction is the same.
My scenery base is the blue foam desert seen as the blue strip behind the station.
The AMI isn’t thick enough to come up to anything like rail-head height at a grade crossing, so unless you want to waste $s and double up the AMI, use a sub-roadbed of card. I used the box the AMI came in for this section of road, and had just enough over to piece together for the parking lot. It doesn’t have to fit exactly, and in the case of roads, if it’s wider than your strip of AMI for the road itself, you have a lower shoulder on each side of the road up or onto which to bring your ground cover. I glued down the card with Liquisilk® www.liquisilk.com I’m giving that url because they kindly sent me two free tubes when I asked about the product, having seen the “New Products this week” bit about it back in the Spring. Why use that? It’s waterproof, and if you use a lot of water in your scenery techniques, as I tend to in fixing stuff with dilute glue, I figured this stuff isn’t going to dissolve the way white glue might.
OK, so the card is in. Next cut the AMI to fit your need. I use the stickier side down usually just like normal. On the parking lot I used it on top as I wanted maximum adhesion for the ballast layer.
Rub it firmly down (don’t forget the silicone paper!)
For paved roads, the next thing is to smooth out the wrinkled surface of the AMI. I use WS FlexPaste for this, in as many coats as it takes. Since it brushes on easily, and dries fairly quickly, several coats aren’t as daunting as they sound. (HO modelers might have to use two side to side strips of AMI to get sufficient width, and the centre seam would be filled by the FlexPaste.)
Sand down the final coat, dust it off, and paint on the pavement. The shoulders have to be gravelled with the ballast of your choice.Don’t forget the line markings. I’m going to try strips cut from the edges of sheets of self stick postage stamps for the white, and colouring same befor cutting the strips for the yellow on this new road.
For the parking lot (or for gravel roads) simply ballast and rub down firmly (bring out the heavy roller, OzJim ) Again, don’t forget the silicone paper for protection. Brush up stray ballast, and you’re done.
That’s it for me today.
All, and God Bless. Prayer for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.
