Sir James - Since you tend to be our night owl, could you kindly shake the front mat and turn the lights off before you turn in?

Fifey - I will scrub it out the POT and cups really well tomorrow AM. I had not read or posted in a few days and things seemed to fall apart. I hope everyone takes Bob Keller's advice and chills out.  It is nice to have some friends that can meet and talk trains.  Met a few of the guys in person and you could not want to meet a nicer bunch.  I'm with Chief - Ignore-Ignore-Ignore

Good Evening, Y'all!

Had a good morning at Church and then lunch with the family.  After a good nap, I got some wiring done on the layout.  Just ran a loop of 14/3 wire, will use one for switch power, one for accessories, and then common.  I even had a little help from my 5 year old.

Roy/Doug, Hoboken is neat, lots of history.  If you find yourself over there again, gotta stop at Arthur's for steak....it is VERY GOOD!  As you have mentioned, the architecture and neat old buildings are great to look at.  I got to see it all the time and as is typical, never got pictures.  Now I miss it and don't have photos to go back on.

Chief, watch out for foxes, they are very much prone to rabies.  Some indians had them at the festival this weekend.  They were selling the skins, which are beautiful.  You may want to look into that.

PhilaKnight, congratulations!  I have a good friend retired  having spent years on SWAT/SERT.  They used to laugh at him as he had Marine sniper training and would always grab the 870 Wingmaster....his logic, don't have to aim, just point.  He also used a tactic to fire at the ground just in front of the perp and take out the legs...if possible.  From SWAT, he quickly climbed the ranks and retired as CAPT.

May everyone be blessed this week,

Dennis

Chocolate chip cookies, hot and a little soft with a glass of cold milk is my favorite!

Never got to the layout today, but hopefully this week...  If anyone is trying to figure out what track to use for a new layout or wants tips and tricks for working with a certain type/brand of track, it looks like this Peter Riddle Trackwork book is good.  John S sold me on trying some gargraves flex track and I'll be replacing the fastrack loop that came with the HWX this week some times.  I'm going to just put it on the plywood for now, while I test it out.  The Riddle book has a whole section on this track alone.  I'll try and add a couple Ross switches and some sidings etc in the near future, but Christmas, chairs and a recent raid on a LHS have emptied my train allowance for a couple months.  Every time I say that, I find something I've just got to have, though....

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Roy, did you get NYC wired and running?

Yep. Looking good and running great. For you New Yawkers, the grand opening is tomorrow morning at 8 am at Grand Central Terminal MTA Museum Annex (one door down from the Rite Aid drugstore - where you come from the "S" subway train). The layout will run daily (except Christmas and New Years Day) until mid-January.

Evenin' Dudes, Dudettes and The Cheshire Cat (a.k.a. Chief)

Haven't been around very much, drop in and quick check every now n' then.

Busy as heck, kinda like trying to stuff 10# of stuff into a 5# bag.

Finally starting to get the hang of MS Vista, Black Eye [B)] .

Got the Christmas layout from last year, was still up in the living room, stripped down to the sub-roadbed and rebuilding with new track configurations  and upper level size.  Got a couple of days left to finish it up prior to Thanksgiving, livingroom is kinda looking like a junk room with all the stuff scattered around, but it's gettin' there. Biggest pain is doing the painting, since I'm in the livingroom I'm not about to use my regular spray can method. I value my life !  Big Smile [:D]

My grandson's Christmas stuff came, Thomas set and James, test run and works great. Now I have to hide them and avoid the temptation til Christmas. Also the HW set that I got my wife came but haven't tested it yet, but it does look pretty sweet.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Chief, Any truth to the rumor that Morris is retiring and that was an audition ?  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Better stop before I get in trouble.   Whistling [:-^]

P.S. Almost forgot Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] for #48, J.J., gotta root for the local boy. Approve [^]

Morning!

Been doing benchwork for the Christmas layout...didn't have time to post photos...maybe today.  Rectangular section done, radius corner next up.  1/2" x 3" plywood 16"o.c. with 1/2" x 2" @ 16" o.c. laid flat for stability...very light somewhat stable...will cover with (2) 1" layers of foam.

Morning to all,

Scrubbed out the pot and the cups.  Got all that nasty bitter crud out of them.  Just had a cup, nice and smooth.

Just a quick check in this AM.  Gotta get going,  the hiring process has started. Screening applications for Building Supervisor that will start Jan. 2nd.  Hope to find a good one.

Well looks like my train budget is down the tubes.  Received a letter from my former employer, Rhodia Inc., over the weekend advising that the retiree's cost for medical insurance has tripled.  At that cost it'll eat up more than a third of my pension income.  Seems its a new way to force retirees to quit the system and save a few dollars for the fat cats at the top of the corporate ladder.SoapBox [soapbox]

Since the wife is still working full time she'll check on adding me to her policy today and I guess I'll start searching for alternative plans.

Good morning all,

It is a cloudy but mild day in SE Indiana with temps in the high 50s.  It seems as if the pot has settled down.  Normally I like my caffeine cold, but I do believe a cup from the freshly cleaned pot will do nicely.  Somebody mentioned warm chocolate chip cookies as well, which are my favorite.  Yesterday turned out nicer than I thought it would be as the dinner in the cabin was very nice.  We got there, we ate, we visited and played cards, and then we went home.  I went over to my dad's and he and I worked on the layout for the historical society.  The trackwork is now done and I have to start working on the scenery, which is mainly buildings.  I hope to get that done this week.  I had bran muffins on the dining car both yesterday and today.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning fellas...

Weekend full of troubling occurances... to say the least!

1st PSU COLLAPSES against MSU
2nd Officials blew one in Baltimore (more on this later)
3rd Pittsburgh blows one in New York

Finished tiling the shower... required 2 trips to Lowes for tile as I bought 1 strip of accent tile that was the wrong pattern (didn't realize this till AFTER I had the adheasive on AND on the wall Banged Head [banghead]).  Then after I got that up I did the bullnose tile and ended up being 1 tile too short Banged Head [banghead]... another trip to Lowes... The last trip to Lowes (to get bullnose tile) was a fiasco to say the least.  I got the tile and a set of strap wrenches (to install the new shower head pipe so I wouldn't damage the brushed nickle finish)... get to the 'Self-Checkout', scan my items, swipe my card... nothing... swipe again... nothing... cashier comes over, takes card, goes to main register, punches in CC info, comes back... nothing... punches in CC info to local terminal... get signature screen... sign... get error about 'staying within the box'... terminal hangs up... manager arrives, reboots terminal... MICROSOFT WINDOWS!  <-- this explains A LOT!  Manager prints last receipt... not mine... tells me 'I'll just assume it was charged.'

So I have no idea if I got my tile and wrenches for free (will know in a day or two if nothing appears on CC on-line statement).

Grouting the tub and shower tonight... noticed a few 'tile drifts' in the shower that cause the grout lines to be off - Susan said to not worry about it... bothers me knowing it isn't 100% correct, but would require removing 1/4 - 1/3 the tile, buying more tile, and redoing... so will live with it.

----
Back to Baltimore game... at one point in first half the Ravens challenge a call... Referree comes back and says, 'The video replay system has malfunctioned.  As a result, the ruling on the field stands - Completed Catch.'  Now it appeared on the Jumbo Tron about 10 times while he was 'under the hood' and he couldn't just look up and make a call?  It did, however, appear to be the correct call... then the end of regulation... I'm not getting into that... Confused [%-)]

----
Made a couple other threads.  One requesting advice on power, and another reviewing the Atlas 21st Century Track System.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It's a cloudy 34 degrees. Going up to 55 today and cloudy. Need some sunshine.

Today is busy. I have a bunch of errands to run and chores around the house. Wife is starting to get annoyed at the big bandage. Tomorrow she goes for follow up at Doctor. It's healing well. No time for trains today.

Dining Car is here and ready for breakfast. I see where " points west" has already boarded and enjoyed bran muffins.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Hello   Hello

Man, you could use a breath mint

Morning all,

Glad to see all in a good mood.  Started a post yesterday and internet died.  Been real busy around here.  Was in Columbus all weekend for formation classes.  No more classes till January.  I hope to get a lot done on the garage addition between now and then.  The framing is up and I will start the siding today.

PK- Congrats on the move to SWAT.  I am glad there are good guys like you to protect the rest of us.  Hats off to you.

Going to get started with the day

may God bless
