BTW which forum is The Selector a moderator of?

If it is this one, nobody told me about it. Company policy has been that only company employees will moderate the trains.com forums.

He doesnt even have anything that distinquishes him as a mod, such as stars or "Forum Moderator" underneath his name. BTW, I believe selector is a major poster at either the model railroader forum or Trains forum. Not sure which though, so I'd doubt he would be a mod here either.....

Great pic Chief!

I wrote about 1000 words, but I deleted my own post.

Found a new "LHS" about 1/2 hour from my house.  My wife pointed out that they advertise in CTT and she knew about them all along - guess I missed it?  Anyway, I really liked the store and they have a TON of PW Lionel trains.  I picked up some gargraves with which to experiment and checked out some Ross Custom Switches.  Got some "Cedar" megasteam - remember that was recommended by someone.  Also picked up some fence for the farmyard and a lumber shed kit.  I noticed that the K-Line by Lionel Barn and Chicken Coop set was Supposed to include a tiny bag of windows and doors that was missing from the kit that I received.  I will be emailing TRAINZ shortly to see if they will send me just that little baggy or if I need to call Lionel or something.  Unfortunately, my daughter and I already glued together the barn and chicken coop, just missing those little details.

Sir James - all done painting?

Thanks Sir James - yummy!  Guys, I'll tell ya, it was a great store.  I'll bet it's the most O gauge trains I've ever seen in a room.  That's pretty much all they had!  We were running late and didn't get there until about 1:15 and they were scheduled to close at 2.  I think they were getting ready to close early when we walked in - oh well!  Laugh [(-D]  I spent $75 in no time at all!  Can't do that too often.

BTW - got the new Riddle Trackwork book today from Amazon - looks great at a glance, can't wait to read it.

Yes, I am for real.  I do a lot of work at my computer, even though I am retired.  Due to my personality and a new interest in model trains, I frequent these forums a lot, although I almost never get to this one.    Some would say I have no life, but they haven't been so unkind as to actually type it out for me to see. Ogaugeoverlord, I can't account for internal communications with you and the other staff, but Bergie has taken on three of us to monitor the forums.  My instructions do not preclude me from responding to complaints in other fora, so I deal with whatever lands in the complaints forum (accessible only to moderators, and maybe staff?).  One such complaint originated in this thread.  Another way of saying this is that I have not been told, expressly, to restrict my function to model railroader fora, and this would make sense since all fora are subject to a bit of untidiness now and again.  You staffers can't always be here to help things along...so to speak. I am sorry my work here is news to you...I hope not unpleasant, though. Shy [8)]

Evening all,

Well the wife drafted me into helping with the outdoor Christmas decorations today.  We had a rather mild day and the wind of the past few days has died.  All done for the year and ready to light up.  Grandson mowed the lawn for the last time on Friday (I hope).

Now I have to get the layout shipshape for visitors over the holidays and set up my Christmas train.  And do a general housecleaning of the layout room and rest of basement. Sad [:(]

Chief makes a great FAT CAT!

Don, What size & impedence is the speaker you need?  I've got a few laying around.

Take care,

Evening all!

So I go traveling for a week and look what happens! The Chief in a big cat suit? Gonna have to read up on that?

Had a great trip to NJ and NY this past week. Visited Walkers Hardware in Totowa, NJ. Great place and great folks! Visit them if you get a chance. A real hardware store with a train shop (and lotsa Lionel modern and PW trains) somehow filling every spare nook and cranny.

We were able to schedule a visit to the NJ High Railers GIANT layout in Patterson. Wow! A great undertaking and a lot of really nice folks showed up to welcome us and give us a tour of the layout. If you get the chance, go to one of their open houses. They also have the HBO Soprano layout and its backup (in case they had to reshoot the scene) on loan from HBO. The one from the finale even has the theatrical blood still on it

Got the Lionel Grand Central Terminal layout all set up and running in 1.5 days. Was able to do a lot of cleanup and refurbishing so it looks great! Even had time to add a signal to the upper loop so the operators can see when the loop is active and when it is "resting" the train (cool down period).

While we were up there, we also got a chance to go visit the old CRR of NJ passenger/ferry terminal in Liberty Park (NJ) and the Lackawana Hoboken Terminal. Classic architecture and a real treat to see these structures. The Hoboken Terminal passenger platform area is completely operational and uses the original train sheds. It gives one a feeling of how things were many years ago with trains arriving and departing every few minutes. The Winter Classic Trains has a nice article on the Hoboken Terminal. You cannot get to the ferry slips area as it is under renovation. The Tiffany skylight is absolutely awesome!

Well getting late. Hope all have a great evening!

Regards, Roy

Sounds like a great trip, Roy!

Sir James, sorry - got busy on the 'Bay buying stuff for a niece for Christmas.  That is a big store!

This guy has some great accessories on a layout in back you can just see some of the details in the pic.  He had the Lionel Hobby Store where you can look look in through the windows and skylights and see all the little layouts and stuff.  Also had the Nuclear Reactor.  None of it was running, but like I said we got there just as they were getting ready to close I think.

Good evening all,

Wow!  Six pages since my last post, which was Friday morning.  Part of my thoughts concerning all the discussion is "Never argue with a fool.  They just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience" :-)  (Please note smiley face).  This kind of agrees with Chief's idea to "Ignore, ignore, ignore."  I, for one, hope that the moderators do not have to step in and lock this thread.  This is not just a forum, but a history of our lives to a certain extent.  We come here initially to talk about toy trains, but I feel as if I have a whole set of friends from all over the country and across the pond.  I have not met in person anyone, but all would be welcome at my house.  We have a good thing going here and I think we can straighten our own situation.  If we can survive the "Zeke" ordeal, we can survive anything.  Enough of the soapbox.

I spent the day doing chores.  I cleaned the gutters out, mowed leaves up (my dad came over and was a big help), swept the house, and went to the YMCA to do weights.  Lucas was working at the library, and my wife was babysitting the grandson in Bloomington.  I also got an e-mail from my Norwegian soccer friend, which always brightens my day.  Tomorrow we have a family gathering in New Castle.  Friday night I set a new personal best for a half hour run, and we watched "Moonlight" and "Numb3rs".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Ha - you are right, Mike!

Chief, it's getting really cold here at night all right.  We had some rain this week and more coming next week.  My buddy in SC hasn't been in touch much except to tell me they are traveling (retired couple), but I guess they were pretty far behind on rain this year as well.  St. Louis is in a drought - I think this is 4 or 5 years in a row.  I think they need to recompute what is normal!  100 years ago MO was known for armadilloes and apparently they are moving back this way?

Gollllleeeee, finally got on here tonight and it took quite some time to read through all the posts.  While I like to catch up with many folks, it was hard reading someDisapprove [V]  I find myself less interested in reading the diatribes, but worth it to catch up on those in need or with troubles.  Many I concider friends and would hate to lose contact.

Chief, what can I say?  That cat outfit is a winner.  Think you need to wear it to York and have your picture taken with the CTT gang photo.

Well, got the last bit if wire I needed to run power to the switches and with the help of a good friend, I will soon have the blocks for the bell wire and can get all the accessory wire runs made.  Things are really coming together and I hope to have some major progress made on the layout.

For what its worth, I have gotten a lot of good information from friends here.  It saddens me that the pot got stirred.  It would be good if it gets back to the way it was.  Too many big issues in life to get caught up in the small ones.

God Bless,

Dennis

Evening all -

Didn't get much wiring done, wife thought we needed to go to a movie.  Couldn't argue, so went to see American Gangster w/Denzel Washington.  Really a good movie!  A little long but interesting.  Did have a couple of disturbing moments, brought back some memories of Bangkok, and Ben Hoa.  Don't regret seeing the movie though, and it is based upon a true story.

News tonight is predicting another of the Santa Ana wind conditions like what we had last month, causing the fires.  They are expected to start on Tuesday and go through next Saturday.  CDF allegedly has started moving equipment in to So. Cal. in anticipation and preparation.

Hopefully will get some train time tomorrow.

Morning all.  Don and Doug, good luck with the winds and NO fires this time.  Getting ready for early Church.  Pam is cooking meal for us to take to Mom's.  Doing her Thanksgiving today.  Then do big meal with Pam's folks on Thanksgiving.  Mom and Dad use to come up to Pam's folks for Thanksgving and Christmas when he was living.  She quit coming after he died and says crowds get on her nerves.  We offer to go get her and she says no.  Hope all have a good day.  Road day for me.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold 39 degrees. Cloudy. Only going up to 48 today with no snow in the forecast.

Today, the wife is making her great, home made chicken noodle soup. With home made noodles. She is feeling much better and is getting around good. I will spend some time running trains, later, and it will be a nice, relaxing day. Life is good.

Last Nascar race of the season, this afternoon. Then, 3 months until baseball Spring training starts.

Dining car has arrived and is ready for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Sunday.
