In all honesty, I would agree with Doug.  There may have been some PM's or other things I'm not aware of.  But, all in all based on what I've seen, I don't see any significant issues.  Some inuendos may have occured but that has happened many, many times but a host of persons.  Self included.

Bottom line - I havn't seen any malice.

Don :  all the old posters here are gone . They don't like the the way certain members & especially one, posts here .  This needed to come to a head.  I will probably take most of the heat but that's ok. 26 months in the RVN I survived & plan to survive this . Of course over there we would have handled it differently. On the RR, they used to throw em' in a boxcar & lock it & ship it years ago.

After finally catching all of the episodes of Ken Burn's "The War" over the past month, I find I cannot stop listening to Norah Jones' terrific interpretation of the song "American Anthem", which has become the signature song of the series.

(click on arrow - listen to this track)

The lyrics can be found at:

http://www.lyricscafe.com/hits/song.php?grid=6&id=1014674

I had a similar reaction to the signature song "Ashokan Farewell" from his "Civil War" series.

How is this relevant to today's discussion? Try this as an experiment; listen to both songs again, and I'll be very surprised if anybody comes back here in a fighting mood.

fifedog- I'll do my best.

I've read the post, but I have missed  something as I don't see the problem everyone is fussing about. Could be old age. And I sure don't want anyone to get upset and leave. Our chats are good company for me. yes I'm married but wife goes to daughters school days and all of you are enjoyable to talk with. I don't know what else can be said.Ceilings done and it's halftime.

I sure would like to know who has left and who caused the exodist (sp).  I've been here for about a year, and up till about March or so everything was kosher... then a few bad apples appeared (Jumijo not being one of them) and caused a lot of mess, not only online but in real life as well.  One such person was banned (zeke) which IMHO was a good thing. There also seems to be a relatively new member who feels the need to keep bringing things up (bfskinner) after they have been resolved (at least in my opinion)... then they feel the need to bring up new junk all in an effort to cause problems.

We all come from different walks of life, if you don't like the way some people talk or post, then you have the right to leave, or ignore their posts... or you could chose to stay and participate in the way you want to... IMHO, staying is the better option... if someone says something you don't like you can email them or PM them and discuss it that way, but to continually keep bringing things up in here is wrong... the other option is to email OGaugeOverlord or one of the other monitors and report a violation, and let them take care of it.  It is their board BTW and if they don't have a problem with the content then we, in all honesty, shouldn't either.

I would like to interject...please.  I am one of the moderators recently appointed.  I take my duties seriously, and as a person with an academic background in conflict analysis and management, I know that an interjection like mine in a forum (culture) with which I am not familiar may be unwelcome, misconstrued, or simply unhelpful.

That said, I have received one complaint related to this thread already.  It looks like more may come if your "issues" are not resolvable amicably and genially.  Most of this family of forums have a thread similar to this one, and it serves a purpose...clearly.  However, they do run their course, as do all things.  So, could I suggest you start anew?  I ask this because Bergie cut off a thread that had become too unwieldy for his liking in the modelling forum, and did it summarily when it was going well.  I would be loath to do the same to this thread, but when it was not going so well.

Do you see my point?  If the thread has grown tired, tainted, or to use terms I see in the latest posts, stale and cold, why not rejuvenate it by growing another in its place?

I do not invite you to engage me in a discussion about my message to you.  It would erode my ability to do what I may have to do with impartiality, so I would prefer to remain detached from the discussion in all ways but this message.  You folks sort it out as you see fit, but please find a way to restore this thread's decorum.  Otherwise it may have to go.

Respectfully,

-Crandell Overton

Edit - I will bump this to the top one last time near the time when the most regular visitors to this thread are likely to be able to view it.  I hope to be able to bump it one more time on Sunday so that my aim is achieved.  However, I reserve the right to lock it as soon as I sense that there is any exploitation of the potential lock with inappropriate tone or language, including personal or directed attacks.

I still have that e-mail, and will be glad to share it with one and all on Monday. Provided you are still here. And probably even if you aren't.

Jim, I am not about to engage, with you, in some of the "conversation styles", that you have had with other Forum members. Two weeks ago, my e-mail was sincere. But since that time, I have become aware of some things which I did not know. I have never had any personal problem with you, and don't want any. But I find that I am offended, by some of the things that you have posted. As has been previously stated, There are kids that read this Forum. In addition to wives who enjoy the fun that is intended. I do not like my wife asking to explain to her what the letters  mean. And why , she asks, would anyone post that on a Family oriented Forum. IT DID NOT IMPRESS ANYONE.

As for being married once....I commend you. I have been married twice. The second time is for 27 years. That in no way, is a reflection, on how I conduct myself as a Gentleman.

Heck, I don't even know what  is.  But I got a feeling this thread is in serious trouble!!!  So before it is locked, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all you guys.  Some of the benefits I have received and will be eternally greatful are: (not in any specific order)

- Great information, and insight to this tremendous hobby,

- Meeting some of the best people I have ever known.

- Developing great friendships with a number of people as a result of this thread.

- Maintaining a strong interest in trains, and helping me develop something adding a great deal of dimension, and value to MY life.

- Providing me with a means of establishing a closer relationship with my son, through a common interest.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL !!!!  Bow [bow]Bow [bow]

(I did find out what the acronym means, and NO it doesn't belong here, (or anywhere))

I can sense the adoration in your frequent comments regarding other women you'd like to nail.

As for your advice about looking inward, I have. And I will, in the future, be much more sensitive of your apparent fragile ego and "quirky" personality.

I get along fine with just about everyone, thanks and my ego is just fine thanks.

And my heart felt apologies for any thing I have written that has offended you. What more can I offer you?

You can stop emailing me.

Before the mods pull the plug on this, which would be a shame, doesn't it give you some level  of discomfort that all of this is about you and your inability to have reasonable interaction with others? Do you truly believe that the dozens of people you have angered so greatly that they have pulled up stakes here and gone elsewhere are all just not understanding you?

As an aside, I've been married twice, once to a psycho for 47 weeks. Everybody makes a bad decision now and then.

Chuck: Kudos!

Fellas,
Why don't we take a deep breath here.

I think we all know what the acronym means and it IS very inappropriate for this forum.

I think we all need to re-think our relationships here - this isn't some club house where you can come in and start making lewd or suggestive comments. There are plenty of other places for you to go on the internet where you can use George Carlin's 7 words you can't say on radio. And plenty of places you can express yourself crudly about anything.

Nobody needs to leave the forum or get mad at A, B, or C. Just pay attention to what you write, and think about who might be reading it.

Figure I'll weigh in...

Personally, as a relatively newer member, I've found this thread pretty useless and in fact kinda detrimental to my achieving what I set out to achieve by joining and participating in this forum.

TRAINS is the only thing I log in for...Way too much other stuff going on in here, and even when trains do get discussed in this thread, who wants to dig through all the "Peyton Place" episodes to read about them?

I feel all the other threads are starting to be less train related too as the "Coffee" spills over into those threads too.

My suggestion:  kill this baby before it gets too ugly; and all you old timers with the mondo post histories start posting some good old fashioned classic toy train operating and collecting stuff.  If you're fresh out of ideas take a break from the forum for a couple weeks and play with your trains then come back.

Anyone getting the G scale Polar Express? I like the concept of the disapearing hobo/ghost, do they also have the same car for the O gauge PE?

With the Hogwarts express and Thomas Trains and MTH coming out with the Orient express train we maybe seeing a new trend of Euro style trains being marketed here in the STATES, maybe this will bring down the prices of ACE and ETS trains(wishfull thinking)Sigh [sigh]

The Buckeyes defense did a good job today.  Offense hasn't been on for a couple of weeks.  Maybe it's the cold weather.  Regardless, it's been a pretty good season.

Sitll damp and 38 tonite.   The bucks did some slipping around at first but once they settled down all is well. To the Penn state folks, sorry but I had to go with Mich S. But I did not expect them to win. I'll take it though. No trains today unless looking at the F3 cab and decals count.

Geez, and here I thought we were all adults here

I'm not sure what's going on here or who peed in who's cheerios, and frankly, I'm not inclinded to really care.

I'm just now figuring out what the anagram is, and I don't know what the big deal is.  If you're offended then I'm sorry, we can get over it and move on. Chief, John, Blueberry, Jim, Frank, et al..I've never met any of you in person and I may never do so.  I feel like you are all distant cousins and at least friends, we can hear about your days a small snippet of your lives, pain & pleasures.  The common thread is our hobby.  A good ribbing ain't a bad thing, provided you have a sense of humour.  Some have some don't.  I have been the butt of many jokes put downs, etc.  Maybe I'm tough skinned.  If they don't kid ya then don't love ya I was taught.

I don't know why some of you are leaving or going to leave.  I'm sorry yer going.  I wasn't brought up to have a snit then leave.  And I ain't askin' for a group hug, either.  Forgive and forget.  It's almost Christmas, so let's just start over.

And if I've offended you in any way, I'm sorry.  I tought we could all take a joke as I can.

(note the lack of emoticons, thank you!)

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.
