HI GIZ,

Got back from CHRISTMAS in OCTOBER from YORK.  GREAT time there hope DA GIZ didn't get me too bad?  Met up for the PHOTO MOMENT, then as FIFE said spent some time around a trash can jawing a bit.  Really nice to talk to all DA GIZ up close and personable.  Feels cool.  Even me a nd the WIFE bumped into ROY on SATURDAY and talked a few minutes.  WIFE did get me my CHRISTMAS STUFF, boy I LOVE HER.  Anyway was GREAT YORK adventure, got some more GIRLS and a few cars for my layout.  And GOT to look and hold and USE the NEW LAGACY system from LIONEL.  On FRIDAY nite got to play with the new BIG BOY with the LEGACY system.  Ran it forward and reverse and QUELLED the whistle, real COOL STUFF,  I am totally impresssed with the new system.  Suppose to be at the LHS in 2 weeks, can't wait.  Then another month for the LEGACY, DA!

Beside getting some good lookers of women I got a 1964.5 Mustang for $7, and a 1974 CHARGER for $ 9.00 and a FRANKLIN MINT 1963 Stingray for $25.00.  Not too bad?  I also bought a FB Unit from CHARLES RO for $60.  Than as always took the wife out for a nice dinner and a few beers.  Came home and took dog for walk and then ran trains for 2.5 hrs. NO PILE UPS all good with DA WORLD.

INDIANS STINK, TURNED THEM OFF IN DA 5th.

Have a good nite.

Evening All -

York reports sound pretty good !!  Another successful event!

Doug M - Sooooo Glad your daughter is OK!!  Hopefully was a great lesson.  Thank Gosh she's OK.

Doug (notdagrump) - I know, I'm concerned as well, when they forecast that strong of a condition this far inadvance you know it going to be bad.  75mph winds, going be some fires!

Not much news here, went to HS football game Friday, actually a very good game.  New coach, had a lot of plays, mixed em up quite a bit, played a lot of kids.  Our team won, and everyone had a great time.  Great Homecoming event!

Think will be working in the train room tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Doug M, sure glad your daughter was okay!  Man, that is scary!

Sounds like 88 and Laz got some great deals and some great wives too!  Conga guys!

Worked 5 OT then trimmed and mowed and did it right to make it last - might be last time this year.  Then, we all went to store as a family so son could buy a video game.  Ate at Noodles - ymmy!  Then to Best Buy and picked up a couple dvds.  Got home and Chewy ate about 1/2 pound of M&Ms!   Chocolate is poison for dogs, but luckily she has been throwing up since we got home and it is milk chocolate.  Wife is really upset since she left the candy where the dog could get to it, apparently.  All will be well, but it was scary for a minute or two!  You should have seen it guys, ripped up little bags and scattered candy all over and Chewy doing flips and rolls and wagging double time - I guess all that sugar and caffiene was really hitting her hard!

Good luck on the converter, John B - hope it works for you!  Hope you don't melt your transformer!

Tomorrow I'm going to mess with that switch, Sir James.  I never got an answer from the guy at Leviton - apparently he thought I was talking about the traveler wires and that one or the other will have power - not what I was talking about at all.  Got a multitester.  Good news is, the replacement fixture is working fine!  Next step after I get that figured out is to put a light at the top of the stairwell.

Then I need to nail or screw together the table for the Halloween layout and get the kids to help me pull out all the boxes of dept 56 and lemax halloween stuff.  I've got a foam board to use and will make a little pond or creek and paint one of these old stamped steel bridges black.  Have some black spray paint, but guess I"ll need to see what we want to do.  Have to make the table portable, so will be pretty crude layout at this point - just buildings and track with a little scenery!  Can't wait to have it all going at once though!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

PS - CSXect - good luck on that diet!  I lost 70 pounds on weightwatchers, but literally in the past year I hurt my ankles and didn't get out much for a while and have just been putting the weght back on.  I have a new years resolution to lose the 30 plus pounds I've put back on this past 12 months and then get down to my original target that I never hit.  Birthday coming up and need a checkup -- will ask doc to run HgA1C so I can see how well I'm doing.  My dad is diabetic but it was attributed to Agent Orange.

Dougdagrump - sorry to hear about your illness, hope things are looking up!

Don - wife will be home soon, so hope you have cleared up that little experiment!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Morning all,

Good day at class now at work and will get off at 7:00 a.m.  Been a busy night and also got in some homework for class so the night is passing quickly.  The owner of the local Hardware/ Toy train shop stopped by to tell me he picked up some American Flyer things with other stuff he bought and thought I'd be interested.  I will check out what he has Monday after the concrete pour.

Fife-Thanks for the lead on the miner cars, I will contact them!

Chief-I've never used Choo Choo Auctions, I may check them out.

Doug-I am thankful and will say a prayer of thanks for your daughter's delivery from what could have been real nasty.  Things like that are real reality checks.

Brent- Congrats on the great buys and a great bride.

All take care and may God bless

Morning All, We lost the Rugby, ahh well I am more of a motorsport fan so "Go Lewis" we can still win F1 world title.

Doug M- Glad your daughter is OK. This happens often over here, fully loaded small car(usually a Peugeot 206) full of teenagers who have just passed their driving test. (Mind you, can't drive till 18 here). There is talk of making it illegal for a new driver to have more than one passenger.

For us in the UK tonight it's Sopranos "Blue Comet" night. We finally get to see Bobby wacked in Trainland! 10:30PM E4 channel.

More work on the Gamesroom/Garage today.

Have a good one

Jim, I have visted Train City in Erie, PA several times.  Train City is the forrunner of Choo Choo Auctions, so be sure to check out both web pages.   I have always thought their prices were really fair and I know the Chief has been pleased with their service.

When Chuck and I visited T&K Hobbies in Bridgeport, Ohio (just west of Wheeling), we were suprised to see a section of S Scale.  He also sells used on consignment.  Another good place for used S Scale is Main Street Trains & Antiques in Huntington, WV.  It is definitely an old fashioned train store with no web page.

Chuck, we may have another place to visit.  Check this out: http://www.outdoorrailways.com/interor.htm     Vienna, WV is near Marietta, Ohio on the Great Ohio River.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool, but sunny 52 degrees. Going up to 82, today with sunshine all day.

Today, I am taking it easy. After a few chores, I will relax for a few hours and enjoy the weather. It looks like I may have to mow again. Grass is still growing. No big frost yet. Leaves are turning on the trees, but a lot are still green.

Indians lost game 6, last night. Now we go to game 7. Bummer.

Buckeye...That place in Vienna, WV, looks good. We must put that on our "Adventure List ".

Chief....Have a safe flight home.

Nascar Race from Martinsville today.

Dining car is here and is serving breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Mornin' boys. Mornin' English.  Sunny & 50 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Taking the youngest girl to a horse stable later on.  She loves ponies, and will get some hands-on experience with caring and riding...and it's a surprise.  Spent some time on the layout last night.  Finished up the "ridge"line for the narrows,as well as "Red Rock" curve (gotta be familiar with Cumberland...), then pieced together the last track segments.  (Tubular track is sooooo forgiving, thank goodness...)  Hope everyone made it home from YORK safe & sound.

MORNING ALL

A sunny sunday morn in s.e.Mich, heading to the middle 70s. I took a stroll through the new catalog's not that impressed. Weaver is showing a GP38-2 in DT&I, and ann arbor orange, I may check on them. At this point my day is not planned, but I picked up a new B&M MPC shell while working at the store, have a powered chassis for it and my train friend talked me into selling it to him. Which I will do but, I could have made another $40.00 selling it to someone I didn't know.Thats what friends do I guess. I don't think he understands that I could have bought a train item with that extra 40.      Later,,,,,,,,Sir  James

Morning folks!  Great pics, really wish I was in there too - hope to be next year.  Chewy was fine this morning, thank God.  Laz, thanks for the advice and I will take it.  I have a pedometer around here somewhere and I think our subdivision is like 1/2 mile "deep" on the main drag, so will start making short laps walking and then we'll see.  Will take Chewy for sure.  I might make the kids go with me, too, especially since swimming lessons are over now.

Great Picture!  Maybe next year, already been talking it over with the wife.  She even agreed to the flight !!??  Only concern is that IF she went it could cost lots $$$$, she likes buying train stuff!

Looks like the fires have started!  3 Going on now, Malibu, Chatsworth, and Castiac.  Fortunately, none are close to us, we won't be in any danger.  Fire departments from our city is already deployed.  Over 400 acres.  And this is suppose to last for 3 days.  We will probably get a blanket of ash.  The media does make it sound worse than what it is.  Most of the area is uninhabited brush area, but it is going to be tough on many!  Once in a while it can get a subdivision that is built close to the undeveloped areas.  However, with 75 to 80 mph winds anything can happen.  TALK ABOUT NEEDING RAIN !!

Have a great day all !!

STAY LOW DOUG !!!

Good afternoon,

Good pictures Brent.  I really enjoyed York this year.  Didn't buy a lot, but do like to renew old friendships and get to meet new people.  I will post my bigest purchase on Sunday Photo Fun in a few minutes, so check it out.

Doug, Glad to hear that your daughter escaped with no injury, that was a close one.

It's been a very busy 50th reunion weekend and still more to go, so I probably missed a lot on the Pot.

Take care all

Well, it didn't take long. San Diego county as two fires going now to put additional strain on the fire agencies. One in almost the same area as the catastrophe of 4yrs ago, already at 3k acres with one civilian death and four firemen badly burned. The other is down close to the border by Tecate, the winds are really bad and with the rugged terain it is going to be left to burn. For now.

Gonna be a very long week !

Pot's a little cold today?!

Sir James, Jefelectric, etc:  I tested the 3 way switches on 2 separate circuits.  When they are in a combination that results in the lights being off, there is still about 42 volts AC at about 0.01 or 0.02 amps coming from the black (hot) wire to the fixtures.  Since they are all the same, I'm guessing this is a feature that is used to complete a circuit and light the diodes or tiny lamps in the switches.  3-way switches, I'm sure you know, interrupt the hot wire and are connected in series with 2 traveler wires which result in two possible "live" circuits and two possible "off" circuits to the fixture. The neutral/ground run from the load center directly to the fixture, completing the circuit through the light fixture.  So, if the bulb in an incandescent fixture burns out, the lighted switch does not light since the loop is broken.  Leviton never got back to me after answering the wrong question, so I guess I have figured it out.

Spent a few hours making a table top for the halloween layout then ran up and got another sheet of foam to make some topography.  Will post some pics on the Sunday Pics thread.

TTFN!

Evening all

On nights and have the assignments passed out.  Hopefully a quiet night, a few reports and we have a trainee so I'll be spending some time going over different systems with him for his qualifications.

Buckeye, Good to hear from you, and thanks for the tip of the shop in Huntington, that is only 45 minutes from home.  Maybe take the bride out for dinner with a side trip.

West coast guys-I hope you get rain to get the fires under control.  We've had a few hill fires but nothing like what you get.  When we were in Glacier last month there was an active fire at Hungry Horse, smoke filled the valleys.

Extended forcast has a chance of rain here.  Hope if holds off till Tuesday or late Monday as the concrete is going to be poured in the morning shortly after I get home from work.  Going to make for a long day!  Hiring out the finishing so I'm helping and not doing it alone.  I'll check back in the wee hours if all is quiet.

May God bless

Jim S-P, good luck tomorrow.  Here, when they pour concrete for roads, they cover with canvas and spray with sprinklers for a couple days so it dries out slower, making it harder?

I helped pour a solid concrete slab porch about 10 years ago that was about 10 feet by 30 feet and I guess about 8 inches thick.  Jeff had them add that fiber to the mix and it hasn't cracked yet, so I think you made a good decision to use that stuff!  Wish they had used it on my driveway.  I'll need to replace it in a few years, I think.

Good evening from a quiet Crystal Lake where it was a windy but sunny and warm day - beautiful for mid-Oct. As you noted, the daughter is sore but still shook-up. Thanks for your warm wishes. Doug, hope you are feeling better and can re-celebrate your anniversary without fires bothering you or Don. Between fires, pestilence, drought, earthquakes, is there anything not happening in California these days? This part of the Midwest looks good for the moment...

Looks like a good turn-out (and good purchases) at York; what a bunch of mugs. Worked half-the-day in video for church services, then hung around with the youngest - taking him to the park, trying the bike without the training wheels. Just read him 8 little books - and I can catch up here before the others come home. Hope to run the trolleys in a bit with no pile ups.

EVENING ALL

Well Brutus sounds like you have the a/c thing under control now. We had a record temp today so I had to have my Ice cream, saved some for you so just go for it.....The other day someone mentioned soda /pop here it's pop, but I've learned over the years when we travel I played it safe and ask for soda pop that usually covers the bases.....A fine thing happened today, my train friend called and asked if I wanted to go across town to a train show, I said ok and off we went. When we get there, big civic center, no train show signs, we go in and ask. The show is next week.I figured since we were already there we might as well wait.and be first in line. we didn't. So he says there is a small hobby shop near by lets stop there. ok again, closed on sun. & mon. I got home told the wife we just went out to see the fall colors.,,,,,Sir James

I forgot, I don't think friends should let someone wear long ears during hunting season. Never know where Elmer Fudd might be.

Laz, who would have thought the Bears could go 97 yards with a minute and a half left to win?!

I see it's supposed to be 70 tomorrow (from 80 today) and 60 Tuesday - maybe Fall has finally fallen here - gorgeous leaves this season so far - reminds me of Jim A's layout.
