Laz, I'm not sure as to where your sister lives but if she has a view of the eastern horizon one of two things is happening;
1. the sun is getting to rise for a second time today, or
2. the fire is getting a lot bigger & hotter.
Tried to get a photo with our old Mavica but I guess it can't pick it up from that far off.

Not a good day here. Worst of course is the fires. They are all around us, closest is about 30 miles, but devastating for a LOT of people. Usually the fires die down at night and everyone gets a little bit of a reprieve. But not to night! Winds are still blowing up to 80 mph. New fire starte in Orange County. Since 5 pm over 12 houses burned. Primarily due to flying embers randomly landing on houses.
Good day to stay inside and work in train room. The winds here are probably gusting up to 30 35, and it looks foggy outside due to all the dust and dirt in the air.
So decided to work on lift bridge instead of wiring. Mistake. Trying to get the leading opening to work. I Believe Bob Nelson had a suggestion about the track on the bridge having an inverted U on the track located on the bridge. That way when the bridge is lifted the U would swing down. I believe the U must be cut long enough to accomodate the track on the secure side to slide into the opening when the bridge is open. The oposite side is no problem, got that figured out with some knife connectors.
Anyone have any better ideas?
Don
Goooooooood morning from New England! The trees are finally changing color around here. I can't recall an autumn where the trees were still green this late in October.
Full day yesterday. Washed the car, trimmed the hedges, bagged all the clippings, tidied up the lawn, played with the kids, helped the wife with dinner. Didn't even have time to post a photo on the Photo Fun page. Next week maybe.
I might pull the mold off of Brent's tender tonight and see what's underneath. 72+ hours should be plenty of time for that plastic to gas out.

Good morning all,
It will be interesting weather today in SE Indiana with mild temps and some rain on the way sometime today. Supposed to cool off later in the week. Sunday was a long day. Went to earlier church so we could get to Bloomington by noon. Took the daughter, son-in-law and grandson out to eat. Grandson was tired and did not eat well while we there. Took Lucas to an IU admissions meet and greet. Got home in time to do a half hour walk/run on the YMCA "road course". Saw where Kimi won the F-1 title, but as usual, there may be some controversy on the post-race inspections. To the Ohiozonians, sorry to hear about the Indians, but congrats to the Red Sox fans. On the radio, they were commenting the seventh game of the series (if there is one) would be November 1!?!?! I have heard of "Mr. October", but a "Mr. November". They wonder why people lose interest in a sport. NASCAR is worse, stretching from February to November. When a season lasts all year, what is the significance of a title?
There was a donut to go along with the usual fare on the dining car this morning. We also watched "Desperate Housewives" as well. It was a long day. Doug, I am glad your daughter is getting over her aches and bruises. To all affected by the West Coast fires, I hope the fires are soon gone. Chief, I am glad to hear you are home ok. To all who made it to York, it sounds like a good time was had by all. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Mornin Fellas...Here are the full size images of the forum member October 2007 York TCA Meet pictures... The last one is the one where I attempted to Photoshop Dave (railfan23) back into the mix...Not much happened yesterday except the Steelers and Ravens both lost. Oh well. Not going to mention anything about the Patriots and Randy Moss pushing off on his TD catch... Jimmy won another race at Martinsville... 4 more to go and Gordon still leads by 53... College Football poll system is still messed up... Big game within the Big T(elev)en this week as #1 OSU travels to State College, PA to take on #22/#24 PSUHope to get some work done on the Master Bath tonight... need to get the tub area tiled, and get the walls primed and painted (Susan will help with that). Tomorrow will be tiling the shower. Wednesday will be working on the toilet room and grouting the tub and shower. Thursday will be painting the toilet room and tiling the floor. Friday will be grouting the floor. Saturday will be installing lights, vanities, mirrors, faucets, shower door... and the room should be done... I hope.
I/m always nervous when the Buckeye's Travel to big stadiums like Penn State has. I was there for training a couple of years ago. Great college bar scene.
Glad that you got to go to York. I'm going there sooner than later...Wes
Just back from a splendid walk. It is absolutely gorgeous out there. High 70's near 80 and dry. Some wet weather is expected tomorrow, so I will most likely be garage-walking then.
Glad to see that the Chief made it home safely. I thought of him yesterday. The wife was watching some foolish cooking show and the cook listed off the ingredients for a quitessential New England breakfast - it included grits! I nearly sprayed Pepsi all over the new furniture!!! I must add that this cook did not have a New England accent. Rather, she had the twang of some redneck rebel that was typically too stupid to come in out of the rain.
Grits - feh! We don't even feed that glop to pigs up here!
Hi all,
An eventful weekend, Lewis loses F1 title by 1 point. I got to watch a bit of the Pats V Dolphins on Sky sports. The score was 7-42 in the 3rd quater so I think the fish were well and truly squished. Saw the "Blue Comet" as Bobby got blown away. The F3 buying the farm was a nice touch.
Chief, My neighbour(electrician) helped us join 25mm armoured cable Friday night. The cable had been layed about 8 years ago in prepration for the garage. However it was about 4 yards short of where the fuse board had to be located in the new design. Had to use a special underground joining kit. Once connections are crimped the whole join area has a plastic mould put around it and then two pack resin poured in.
Just final connection to the fuse board and the mains power line and will have power in the garage and gamesroom.

And I'm going with you.
So tell us Brent did you order one or two B units from Marty at MA&PA Juntion.
Don Baker Hope all is going fine for you hope the fires aren't getting to close if need be get out your more important than your stuff (gulp including your trains they can be replaced.) Our prayers are with everyone out there.
Afternoon - I sure will be glad to see Doug (dagrump) post! I am pretty certain he lives in Escondido, currently the fires in that area, are among the worst in the state. I have linked to a map which shows Escondido, note the following;
-Interstate 15 is closed North of Escondido,
City of Ramona, totally evacuated 36,000 people
City of Poway has had 60-70 homes lost, currently being evacuated
Rancho Santa Fe, totally evacuated.
Some evacuation going on in Escondido.
Some homes have been burned even at the beach.
Additionally, fires are in San Marcos and as far as Fallbrook (north).
Over 250,000 people evacuated in the above area, being relocated to San Diego Chargers field.

Just to put things in perspective. The next link shows where I am located.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=cerritos&ie=UTF8&ll=33.86854,-118.0637&spn=6.501683,8.459473&z=7&om=1
I am NOT in any danger of fire, the sky is redish brown, from indirect sunlight which cant get through the smoke, and of course a lot of dirt and ash fall out.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=cerritos&ie=UTF8&om=1&ll=33.651208,-118.081055&spn=1.630099,2.25769&z=9
The fires are located primarily in arc surround the LA area. Malibu is on the coast of course, then a major fire located in Santa Clarita (north on 5), 25 more homes lost, more fires down in Irvine / Mission Viejo area, (due to Arson (south on the 405)). Then Lake Arrowhead, just north east of San Bernadino. (Another 100 homes lost)
Where the new Cabellas which just opened, is located, at the junction of 15 and 215 in, there is a fire as well.
And there are even more fires a little further north, in Ventura, and Santa Barbara areas.
As long as I have been here, I have NEVER seen it this bad.
And we have at least another day of the high winds, and low humidity. Some places the wind has been recorded at 100+ mph gusts.
Sorry to have so much bad news! Just send a few prayers up for Doug and his Family !!!
I like how I have no body!!!!!! Good job at Photoshop, though. Wish I could have stayed longer but needed to get back to my table.

Evening All !
We are still hanging in here, kinda like smoked hams.
We were notified via reverse 911 to be prepared to "Bug Out", but so far so good. The fire passed a little bit to the south of us, did get a portion of town but some others have gotten it much worse than we have. For a big city it is amazing how the people who have not been impacted directly have really pitched in to help those who have.
For a view of what is happening www.***.com is a local station that is live streaming.
Almost failed to mention, got a call from Chief, just checking on one of the flock.
The wind is still howling at times but "So Far, So Good".

AMEN your okay
I have read about the Santa Anna winds, but your first person acounts are very interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_wind When you look at building code maps the Santa Anna's have their own designation.
You guys make sure you keep safe.
Hey, has anybody see Dr. John of late?
Just saw it tonite on the news that they blow from the east to the west. Push it all out to the ocean. Said high winds and high temps,100 degrees, and high humidity has the makings of a perfect storm? Maybe could pick up the INDIANS from CLEVELAND and dump em in the pacific?
