Brent, I always figure out the right way to do something about the time I finish the big expensive job I'll never do again!

Cool and raining today and gonna be cool/cold all week!  Thumbs Up [tup]  Hope I'm done mowing for the year.

Heroes has introduced a few new characters this season and they mostly are a waste of time.  I guess Sylar will rip through them at some point and this way they can keep the good characters around longer.  Worked 1 hour of OT tonight, had some Stagg Chili, and just chilling out.  Later, I'll try for a game of dutch oven with the wife!  Laugh [(-D]

Dougdagrump and Don, glad you are both okay.  Prayers for us all!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic]SoapBox [soapbox]We as a country are having a very bad way to go with the fires, quakes and fires and storms and even drought and the whole terroism/Iraq mess and now Turkey is threatning to invade Iraq over the Kurds and their terroists that have been harrassing the Turks lately. We say prays for each other when times are bad but we should also pray for our country, leaders and the service men and women who keep us safe.Angel [angel]

Sorry about the above but I had to get it off my mind, All trains full speed ahead againCool [8D]

This is a train board and We have just about anykind of smily you can think of but where is one with an engineers hat??

Gott my latest CTT today and it has two very interesting track plans that would be a great intermediate layout in a 12 x 12 area one of which has no special  cut pieces all sectional trackBow [bow] may base mine on that one.

A question for our English brethern, I just had my last meal as tomarrow I start an optifast diet which is a liquid diet drink have to drink 6 per day to get all the needed nutrients/calories needed....anyway I had two english muffins with sausage patties and egg with cheese and I got to wondering if they are called english muffins over there? Here in the states muffins are usealy like bread/cake type of thing and what we call cookies you call biscetsbut here they are something you smother with pepper/sausage gravy and homefries and eggsDinner [dinner]

Raining here - wish it was elsewhere where it is more needed. Nice and cold. My train home was late because of 'weather-related problems' - first time I've heard that excuse in nearly 20 years of commuting. UP must be letting trackwork go.. Thinking of Doug and Sir Jame's bride.

CSX- Usually known as just muffins over here. Unless you specificly want to avoid confusion with American Muffins (i.e. blueberry, choc chip etc.) When the term English muffin is used.

Tend to be toasted over here. Then put some butter and Jam onSmile [:)]. Or butter and Marmite, my personal favorite.

Morning All,

Made a fresh pot.  Have not posted in a few days. Spent the weekend at Mom & Dad's.  Mom gave us a scare Friday night.  She had developed a hard red spot on her left arm so they prescribed additional antibiotic (thought it could be phlebitis or cellulitis).  Dad gave her the antibiotic as soon as he got home from drug store.  Almost immediately, Mom was nauseous and felt like she was going to pass out.  Dad tried to take her blood pressure 4 times and the machine could not detect a BP.  Needless to say 911 was called and she had a ride to ER.  By the time she got to the ER, things were back to normal. Checked her in and kept her over night. Her heart and all related to surgery seems fine.  They called it a vasovagal response (fainting spell).  Never dull.

Due to excitement and work, I have not had time to install the sound board in my BEEP.  Maybe tonight.  Anyone have experience with installing the Electronic Railroad sound boards?

Take care.

Morning!

We had a small spell of wellness...prayers go out for all of you ailing, and those of you in Cali...those winds sound awful.

Thanks for pointing out who's who in the photo...seems like most of the regulars were able to make it.  Good to see the faces (and ears).  How much did you have to pay Mr. Swanson???or was he 'shopped in?

Not much going on here...rained all night.  Took the family out to Olive Garden for dinner last night, wife had a bad day at work...Dinner out was a good distraction..Kids behaved admirably!  They seem to do very well there.  2-1/2 YO, and 6-MO finished 3-scoops of ice cream after eating most of their dinners...'germ bag-eating machines.'

Julia was pushed by her brother and ended up falling and hitting her head on a wooden brace of their playground set. She sustained quite a large lump on the back of her head and I was concerned about a concussion or fracture.  She did fall asleep early last night, which concerned me. I was able to wake her and make her walk around for a while. Sorry to cut the conversation short last night, Brent. My wife was calling for an update.

So because of the drama, I wasn't able to post any photos of the progress to your tender. Maybe tonight. I think you will be very happy with the update.

Best of luck to the CA residents among us.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a rainy 65 degrees. Suppose to rain all day. Going up to a cool 72 degrees.

Today is another busy day. I have to drive up to Cambridge and pick up the groceries. Drop wife off at the hair dresser. All in the rain. Fun.

I hope all is well with the guys in CA. Keep in touch.

Not much new on the trains. Got my CTT mag. Good articles.

Dining Car is here and well stocked. Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday. Keep dry.

Kurt,
Carl, and Ken, were awesome!  They have some very entertaining stories... most of them revolve around 'Blue Team' / 'Red Team'... you had to be there... and some stories about an Eskimo trapped in Wisconsin!  Seems Carl has both N and O Gauge... I think he got confused by ON30 gauge and bought N and O... Laugh [(-D] Only 'shopping' that was done was adding Nitroboy to the Carl/Ken shot (they were busy watching a demo of a long awaited Command Control System - which will remain nameless).

LOL!  I would have understood 'wicked'!  When I was in CharlesRo there was a young boy there with his grand-dad.  Grand-dad was telling him about the different trains and the little boy kept saying 'That's wicked cool grand-dad!  Can we get one!?!'  LOL!

Sorry to hear about Julia... always hate hearing about young girls getting hurt by their brothers... unless it was my sister trying to show me how to do something the right way and then hurting herself (I never hurt my sisters intentionally) Angel [angel].  Glad you were able to wake her and get her to walk around... has the swelling gone down?  I'm sure Dad remained calm through the whole ordeal... at least till Mom got home! Wink [;)]

Susan got on the treadmill last night and it wouldn't incline... hmmm... I seem to remember telling her it wasn't inclining when I was testing it out last Thursday... so now we have to figure out what we need to buy to get the incline to work on thick pile carpet (no where else to put this thing but on carpet)... She likes to listen to the XM stations on DirecTV... so I'm tiling and I hear all this racket, ask her what she is listening to... the all 70's station... I told her I don't remember ANY of those songs - the most annoying noise I've ever heard... got 1/8 of the tub surround tiled, now that I have 1 side done I can copy on the other side... should get it done tonight and still have time to work on the toilet room while Susan primes the drywall, then once that is dry we'll put a couple coats of paint on the walls...

Got a call from another friend last night... he is building a shed off his garage and the guy building the shed didn't finish, so he needs help building the last end truss and installing the plywood underlayment and putting down the felt paper.  Hate telling friends 'no' so I'm going over tomorrow to help him...

Good morning all,

It is raining in SE Indiana and looks to continue that way all day.  We could use the precipitation.  Did weights and a short track run.  Legs just quit after 10 minutes as I could not go on any longer.  May be hitting it too hard.  We watched Helio on "Dancing with the Stars".  I think they are trying to get him off the show by giving him low scores.  It seemed like yesterday was a long day, but I cannot remember why.  I hope all the California people get some relief from the fires soon.  The dining car still had donuts on it this morning as it pullled in from "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

The treadmill has rollers under the tread that allow it to move closer or away from the stand depending on if the tread is inclined or flat... I was thinking a sheet of plywood (fansied up of course since this is our bedroom, would put some molding around the edges and stain the whole thing) and a treadmill mat... bricks may damage the plush carpet?

MORNING ALL

As Kurt said slow rain all night, summer temps gone. Looked out this morning and my nice cut grass is covered with wet leaves. I would not mind but my neighbor never rakes them, prefers to share them with all of us. Yesterday grandsons dog got loose, leash broke so my wife spent a couple hours looking for it. Yea she found it. this morning she calls and one of the boys is home sick. I sure hope things go better for her tomorrow at the hospital.

CTT arrived yesterday and I have the MPC B & M I can put together so I'll make it through this wet wet day. Ca. sure could use this but they probably would not want to take any of our snow in return.    Sir James

Morning all,

Jim F- The concrete was a 6 bag mix with fiber 3” slump

Laz- Too bad about the Indians, I thought they were going to make it.

Brent- Thanks for putting names to faces.  After chatting with folks for a while it is good to see a face.

Sir James-I will pray for your wife surgery

Doug and Don- prayers for your safety and other impacted by the fires

Nick- I’ve repaired 240v underground lines as you mentioned but used a shrink wrap insulator with an epoxy sealer.  The clamp makes the connection mechanically strong and as long as the wire surfaces are clean and prepped and the wrap is evenly shrunk, they work great.

Jim-I understand your concern, hope Julia doing OK today

Laz-If I told my bride I was going to put a cow mat under a treadmill, I would need to duck in a hurry.

Got the concrete poured yesterday.  First truck did not show until 10:30, final finishing was done a 7:00 p.m.  It was overcast and cool so finishing was slow.  Started raining before we were done so that retarded curing also.  Tarped the pad last night since heavy rains predicted.  Made for a long day, by the time I went to bed I’d been up for 30 hours.  Slept in this morning till 0900.

Going to check out the pad this morning and cut joints if ready.  Some homework and maybe put Gabe on the layout

May God bless

Jim

Cow Mat ????  Hmmm, Never heard of such a thing.  And, its used for exercising? OK, (Brent come up with a different name for it.)

Waiting for another frightfull day !  Sure, hope they get the aircraft up today ! Today is suppose to be the last day of the high winds.  That being the case, MAYBE today will be the last day of seeing NEW fires starting up.  As the wind continues the fires are completly unpredictable, because of the winds shifting directions and how far they carry the embers, creating new fires.

Once the wind dies down, it will still be quite awhile before the fires are out.  The area is so huge and the fires are so big, it will take another week or more just to get them out.  AT LEAST.  But it will be much easier to protect developed areas.

As the Santa Ana winds die down, it is not unusual to get fog, and even some light rain.  Results from the "marine layer" rushing in to fill the void, from the lack of winds and lower air pressure.  That is always a welcome relief.  Currently, the air is less than healthful, and everything has a "reddish" hue to it, due to the smoke blocking the sunlight.  As well as it smells like a campfire, everywhere.  And everything is covered with ash and layer of dirt or sand.

As far as getting anywhere that is a real issue !   With the number of people evacuated, and the road closures that are in fire areas, the congestion is humongous.  The available routes are crowded, and then they are occassionally closed due to high winds.  And anyway where do you go?

This will most likely will be the worst fire storm of the season, next couple of weeks probably look forward to arson generated copy cat fires.  Seems like it happens every year.  Then we will probably have a very wet rainy season which will bring the inevitable mud slides.

I am really surprised that there has not been more loss of life.

SoapBox [soapbox]The timing for this statement is probably not appropriate, but that never stops me.  These fires are "natural" and are NOT new!  Its natures way of clearing out all the accumulated dead brush, and cause renewed growth.  Some of the plants do not germanate unless their pod temperature gets very high, as a result of a fire.  Then, with our efforts to prevent that from occuring, when it does catch it is then much larger than it would have normally been.  One of the problems in Arrowhead is the thousands of dead trees in the forest as a result of the "bark bettle", which have NOT been removed.  Many, many, issues.  With all the continued development into known areas that has this occur, what is to be expected.  Last night, one fire was left unchallenged because the area, which is being developed had not been built on yet.  It was graded, and being preparred.  Now you know it will be one of the 1st areas built up.  What is bad in my opinon is that the home buyers may not be aware of the risk when they buy.  (Common sense says if you are buying in an area that cannont grow a tree their must be something about that area.  Extremely windy, prone to fire, no moisture, extremely hot or something).  By law you must advise a buyer of any known problems when you sell, their should be some risk assesment or inherent danger information also provided to perspective buyers.  But, I don't think it will happen, politically unpopular, and lots of development $ could be affected.    So continue to buy a hillside home, on the edge of the desert, in earthquake country.  SoapBox [soapbox]

Hi guys, I have a beef.

Don't people do their own electrical repairs anymore?

Called 6 "Electronics" stores in my neighborhood and 5 sold computers and 1 sold computer games, yet the word "computer or games" was not in the title. I have a fan motor burned out on a kitchen range I need replaced by tomorrow (we're renting it to tenants) and no in a pickle. A motor would be about $15 and a new range over $100.

Doesn't anyone do their own repairs anymore? Sad [:(]

Another beauty of a day out there. Walking was nice. The leaves are starting to change in earnest now at last.  Rain later possibly tomorrow.

Hope to read the new CTT tonight. Looks like another great issue. Looking at the photos, Dennis Brennan did a whale of a job on the featured layout. Now this guy knows how to model realism! One of the nicest, most realistic layouts I've seen in a while. Very talented modeler. I can't wait to see the next installment.
