Morning all,

Southern Border secure.

Chuck, John and Spanky Thanks for the info about Brea train show.  I checked my class schedule for this fall and I have class all day on Saturday in Columbus, so I doubt this year would work out.

Got grass at home and neighbors yesterday, if rain hold off cut my friends after work.  Received a plasticville house off the bay yesterday for the all aboard layout.  Really looking forward to running it at this fall's train show in town.  Not as many folks see AF stuff and the all aboard is more scarce.

Going to the Smokies this coming Sunday through Tuesday with the bride.  Celebrating our 29th wedding annaversary!!!

Got to go.

May God Bless

Jim

Colin,
Just letting you know... Labor day weekend is out too... and the end of September the wife and I are planning on heading to Arizona for a week (need to get away so she stops making me work at home)...

Got the oil changed in two cars last night and rotated tires on them as well... really can't wait for the shed to be done, not having any room in a two car garage is for the birds!

Tonight I'm going to my FiL's house for steamed shrimp... guess he ate all the snow crabs! Sad [:(] Maybe if I have time I'll get started on the shed...

88, I am also down the shore Labor Day. Where are you going in Arizona? Two summers ago, my family and I went to Scottsdale. It was awesome. I loved it there.

Good morning everyone,

I stayed up late last night, talking on the phone, watching TV, and playing XBOX Live. I finally went to sleep at about 2-3 am. But, I am wide awake suprisingly. Well, off to finish breakfast, and then whatever I can think of. Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from a cloudy and cool Chicago where I am going to troop up to the Apple store in a few moments with my daughter's malfunctioning iPod - since it is about 40 blocks, this probably counts as exercise I'm supposed to be avoiding. Well, I'll walk slowly. Touched base with Roy who was on a tour of the Illinois Railway Museum yesterday. Have class later tonight. Going to read the new CTT on the train ride home.

Morning all from a cloudy and cool 67 degree day here in NC.  Had about 0.4" of rain overnight with scattered showers and thunderboomers forecasted.

The chief isn't the only one picking 'maters.  Had to get this NS GP38 to help haul them in!  Sir James - hope you're jealous!

Lisa.

"Great Balls Of Fire" those look good. In the past I've had maters like that, I'm going to have enough but not like that. I would think our dry weather would make them work harder.daughter got us resv.at Microtel in Pigeon Forge, good deal from the web special. Do you know it? is it ok?

We only stayed one night there.  Don't know that particular place.  Those are gazillions of motels on the "strip" along with lots of other things.

Hope you have a great trip.

There was 3/4 gazillion when we were there about 10 yrs. ago. I have no doubt that area has really grown since then. My son and family are visiting DC wanted to leave and do something else. I told them to go to Front Royal Va. see the caverns and go to the Skyline Drive.   Jim

Colin,
We are planning a trip from Phoenix to Sedona to the Grand Canyon up to Monument Valley in Utah then back to Sedona to Phoenix to home.

4 or 5 days, nothing real long as Susan starts to miss the kitties after a few days.

We have to start planning now or we are going to end up in a tent with two sleeping bags...

LOL!

Unfortunately I've not been able to convince her to extend the trip for a day and take in the Grand Canyon Railroad excursion... Disapprove [V]Sad [:(] But we are going to do the Napa Valley RR trip when we get there, maybe in the Spring... Can't wait to go to England either 2008 or 2009...

--- Almost forgot ---
Doug, you better take it easy, don't want to fully detach that retina (maybe wearing sunglasses would help?)... Cool [8D]

Lisa - nice maters! Wink [;)] Send some up this way!  We're running low this year due to lack of water and a deer infestation around the garden... luckily they haven't messed with the FiL's grapes!

Been awefully quiet on the Chief/Buckeye front... me thinks they are cohorting on something... and where the hecht is Jimmie A?  He should be back from vacation....

A man in Topeka, Kansas decided to write a book about churches around the country. He started by flying to San Francisco and started working east from there. Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making notes. He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign, which read "Calls: $10,000 a minute."

Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone and the sign.  The pastor answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to

heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly to God.  The

man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to

visit churches in Seattle, Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, and around the United States, he found more phones, with the same sign, and  the same answer from each pastor.

Finally, he arrived in Ohio, upon entering a church in Columbus, Ohio, behold - he saw the usual golden telephone.  But time, the sign read "Calls: 35 cents."

Fascinated, he asked to talk to the pastor, "Reverend, I have been in cities all across the country and in each church I have found this golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and

that I could talk to God, but in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads only 35 cents a call. Why?"

The pastor, smiling benignly, replied, "Son, you're in Ohio now, ......You're in God's Country, It's a local call."

That is why they say West Virginia is "Almost Heaven"

May God Bless

88,

I've always wanted to go to England. I went to Germany when I was 8 years old, and I think I'm going back with my grandpop next year in the summer. I don't remember much from when I was there. I know that if I go, though, I will have to buy a few more memory cards for my camera. I'm positive that my 2gig card won't even be able to store the pictures taken in a single day. Whenever I take photos, my card is 3/4s of the way filled. And that is close to 4-6 hours.

I also want to go to Monaco to see the F1 race. And Italy to see the Ferrari and Lamborghini factories.

Colin, Monaco is one of my favorite places. If you go you MUST have a meal at the "Louis XV" restaurant located in the Hotel de Paris in casino square. It has 3 michelin stars the food is fantastic. Budget about £150 for two for lunch (lunch however takes about 4 hrs to eat your way throughSmile [:)]) double that if you go for dinner. Book first.

I recomend the Cafe de Paris across the square for a drink. Prepare to have deep pockets as a Coke will set you back about £10.

I took the DeLorean for a spin round the F1 circuit which when I visited a couple of weeks after the Grand Prix they still had the armco up. The hill up to casino square is a lot steeper than it looks on TVWink [;)]. Oh and they put bolt down speed bumps on the pit straightSad [:(] so watch that Ferrari front spoiler.

If you go for the F1 race prepare for the hotel rates to treble compared to normal.

Afternoon from beautiful Ohio, where I have been on the Golden Phone most of the day since it is so cheap. Big Smile [:D]

So the Chiefie is out of town. Evil [}:)] I was trying to think of a nice gift to give him for his new office at city hall.  Maybe this one of NS polluting a small town would be appropriate.

He could just put that on the wall and tell everyone that NS is his favorite railroad.

Cousin and his family are heading to Roger's Corners for a visit.  He works for the DOD overseas so it is nice to see them back in the states.

Had a little blood work yesterday.  Had to stick me twice.  I hate that!

The high was only 77 today.  Normally we see 97 at this time of the year. My lawn is still green.

A wonderful day on tap for Iowa tomorrow, the 133rd Battalion is returning to Waterloo after being gone for 22 months in Iraq. Six hundred and forty American Heroes are returning to their families and communities with huge celebrations scheduled in home towns everywhere. Two of the heroes made the ultimate sacrifice this last year, keep their families in your prayers. I'll be there with the Patriot Guard bringing them home in style.

For those of you who watch 60 Minutes, this was the guard that was featured this winter.

Colin:  The history channel had a special on the Ferrari Factory.  Amazing.  They showed a few pics of the foundry, and how they cast the engine blocks.

Went a short 3-miles with the girls in tow.  They did pretty well...Dad arrived tired, and the children energized.  Probably better to run them til they drop, instead of letting them recharge, and run dad to death when they get home.  I still have more endurance than a 2-year old...so far.

Jimbo is still on vacation with the family, or in a prision somewhere for 'misplacing' his family.

Jon:  Congratulations on bringing your comrads home!  Thank you for serving.

Ran trains with the 6-month old...Saw some pics of the K-Line Ringling Bros trains!  Really nice!

Evenin' boys.  Evenin' Lisa.  Lovely ripe tomatoes you 've got there...quit it , Brent.

88 - Kelly and I can be out your place by 2 on Sunday.  Can get that shed up in a jiffy.  Track plan is brewing upstairs.  Not sure I'm going to Timonium.  Need to start saving for YORK.

tmcc - Not sure if I can meet up with ya at B&O museum, but let me know when you'll be there just the same.

mitchelr - Just west of Romney is the MILL STONE Restaurant on 50.  The owner is passionate about BAR-B-QUE ribs and pork.

Down in Petersburg is the HERMITAGE (right on the main road).  Nice meal in historic landmark.

In Cumberland (Rte 28 exit/Paca St) is GEATZ'S Restaurant.  Great meal, really nice inside, not pricey at all.

If CRACKER BARREL is more your style, use the one in MARTINSBURG (81 exit 13)Thumbs Up [tup].  Unlike the one in Hagerstown (65)Thumbs Down [tdn].

If you do spend the night, I highly recommend the South Branch Inn just outside Romney.  Treat yourself to the Suite.  A little pricey but that jacuzzi bathtubWhistling [:-^] with all those mirrors...woooaaawooooaaawooooo!!!

Would you ask your wife to tell me how HP ends? Everyone wanted to know and now no one is saying.strange.

No trains today did read about half of CTT.Reviews are next. The favorite train store is getting ready for the NMRA conv. as three of MTH people will be at the store Fri. evening. I'm going to help them during the day but may leave in the late afternoon. depends if people are buying or just there to look. I will stay if i am needed, guess I can handle a day of work as long as it doesn't interfere with my getting old.                    Sir James

Fife - Sounds good, see you then!  I'm not 100% sure on Timonium either... I too need York fundage, and with school and all the work to do on the house, I will probably pass... plus it will be less of a temptation to buy! Laugh [(-D] Looking forward to seeing what you come up with... 'island' train layouts aren't my forte!

Colin - keep me posted.  I will definitely show if I can.  I may even bring the 491 so we can compare it to the 490...  BTW - nicest Porche I ever saw was on the German Autobahn in 1990... it was a 959 (I think, it was the one that they weren't able to run the car stateside).

Colin:  It was a show called Ultimate Factories, sorry it was on the National Geographic Channel.  It aired July 5, and 6, but I couldn't find any other information, and the Ferrari plant does not appear on the video for sale.  It wouldn't provide any information on air dates in August, so just keep checking.  The Harley Davidson factory episode was also worth watching.
