Good morning from a stormy Crystal Lake where I am celebrating the daughter's birthday today -- she didn't want a train - can't imagine why not. I think my participating in celebrating is paying for everything Wink [;)] --- 16 years ago, we adopted her in Peru.

Happy B-Day [bday] to your daughter!

Slow day today... have to stop by Home Depot to pick up a tandem 20-amp circuit breaker and 6 more deck-so-ports for the shed.  Have to run a 20-amp circuit to the garage for the air compressor.  I had everything wired up and ready to go, tapped into the circuit breaker box and found there weren't any open slots (although there are 2 empty slots in the cover) Banged Head [banghead] so I have to stop and get a tandem on my way home.

Then get home, finish the wiring, and get started on setting the sub-floor for the shed.  Hope to have it done tonight so it will be ready for Fife's arrival on Sunday.

Doug - Happy Birthday to your daughter, that's what Dad's are suppose to do.  Have money, then more money.  It doesn't end.   ENJOY

Quiet day here on the left coast as well.  Forum extremely quiet, that is good and bad, no explanation necessary IMO.

Weekend plans here include, visiting local TCA train meet on Saturday morning, do some wiring for a couple of display light on our elevated track, begin benchwork for Section 2, of the primary layout.  (4 total).  Also trying to work in some display images.  Oh yeah have to work 1/2 day Sunday, UGH!!!

Hope everyone has a good day, be watching for pics from Nick.

So I have to add a 20-amp circuit for the air compressor... tried to install the breaker last night, but no room in the box... so I go to Home Depot to pickup a tandem breaker... I thought these things were standardized!?!?  I didn't have one from the breaker box, so I don't know what connectors I need on the bottom... Home Depot has breakers with different style connectors underneath (4 different sets)... so I have to go home, remove a breaker, go back out to Home Depot and get the right one... Evil [}:)]Banged Head [banghead]SoapBox [soapbox]

Why can't these things be standardized?

Standardized Brent?   We've all said the same thing about our trains. Just one co. had to be different and screw everything up.

Jim,
I'm not sure, but it looks like the breaker boxes are standardized, it is just that they make the breakers with different connectors to seat them in the breaker box... since I don't have any open breaker slots I think I'll just head home, remove one, and check.  It can't hurt because I need to add 1 20-Amp circuit and while I'm in there digging around I may as well add another 15-Amp circuit breaker for the future garbage disposer...

Brent

When I was reading that thread, I was trying to remember the simple job that turned into several trips to the store. It was the drains under the kitchen sink. same size, same color, but would not mate. seems the threads were different just enough that they would not draw tight.Long story short, back to the store for enough parts to redo the whole thing. easiest way out.

Evenin' boys.  Lousy hazy day here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Need some rail.  Speaking of...

88 - Sketch #2 is done.  Everything fit into place with my trusty track stencil.  Of course, that doesn't always translate onto the benchwork, but I managed to get in most of your components and requirements.  2 separate mains, a passenger terminal, and a coal shortline to service your Martinsburg mine.  Piece of cake!

Sir James - probably shouldn't make too much coffee.  Prices are going up.

Laz57 - try not to wear white clothing to Strasburg.  And don't crowd the Thomas table,; other kids want to play too...

She's reading the Harry Potter book on the couch - I'm keeping the boyfriend untangled - I need a gun to clean.

Evening everyone,

Had a nice day here. I was the only one home for the day. I just finished taking measurements in the garage.........my parents are thinking about buying a new Pontiac Solstice. I have no problems with that at all!!!!!! It'll be a Deep Blue with black leather interior. However, it will not be the GXP.

Oh, I also cleaned the garage out too. I have to make room for it if it comes to the house.

Howdy Boys n Gurls...

Been a few days, getting beat up at work....

company softball tourniment is Sat., so I've been practicing, it's only been a year since I last played.  Work is piling up and everyone has another emergency....so I get nothing done.

in the 90's again but no rain today, first time in several days its been dry...very humid

Doug Happy B-Day [bday] to your daughter.  Mine turned 15 in May, and I'm STILL looking for a shot gun or at least one of my Italian "cousins" to visit her boyfriend

And I also got that pleasant note about my Polar Express...no shippy 'till the last of August...bummer!!!

Stay cool & well!!

Rich

PS Hey TMCC...you REALLY don't want an Italian made car!  I used to work on Alfas Fiats and Lambos.  Trust me, your dealer will see more of the car than your garage will.  Sort of like a Jaguar with taste.  At least the Italian cars will keep the electrics running (no Prince of Darkness there!).

Brent- Whenever I install or work on a distribution panel once I find the correct breaker I put a couple of spares in the panel.  That makes short work of the breaker failure on Christmas eve.

Doug- Tell the little lady Happy B-Day [bday]

Going on a formation retreat this weekend, then off to the Smokies Monday to celebrate the 29th wedding anaversary.  May talk the bride into going over the hill and visiting the train museum in Bryson.  (I think that is where it is at.)

Rainy today, going to chill out from a crazy day and week at work.  Taking Friday off, need tires on the truck before leaving on retreat.  $185 each!

May God bless

Hi guys - well, I'm half way through Potter.  Just stopped in to catch up on the 'pot and say hello.

Doug M - Congrats to your daughter!  I've got that whole boyfriend thing to look forward to myself.

Sir James, my wife tried to send you an email yesterday through CTT button.  She typed for about 15 minutes.  Then, CTT apparenlty crashed - got an error on page message and killed IE and my cable connection, and then she didn't want to do it again - sorry.  I think Doug M said you can get the info on wikipedia though.

Chuck - sounds like service is back to normal at the diner!  Let us know how the ballasting goes on the bridge.

88 - Been there, done that!  I've got a regular service panel put in by the builder, plus a second panel I put in so I could have enough spaces for the house and workshop in the basement.  I guess you are using the tandem breaker to open up a separate 20 amp line using a single space for a 120 volt compressor?  I agree - buy a couple extra breakers now - it can't hurt.  The service panels are standardized in general, but some have different connections and the manufacturers take perverse glee in putting out different breakers that won't fit in other boxes - I guess that's where they make their money!  If you look inside the panel, I guarantee you will find a warning that using another manufacturer's breaker in their box, even if it fits, will void the warranty.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Today in the mail I got Trains, Classic Trains and Model Railroader, all in the same day, it has never happened before.  Lots of reading for the weekend.

Doug, Happy B-Day [bday] to your daughter.

For some reason, over time,I have repaatedly been dropped from the CTT Forum and been unable to login or post with my legitimate e-mail adress and password. It is becoming a pain in the *** to go back to the main entrance and try to get back on---which sometimes works but not always.

What is the story Keller? I can go elsewhere if necessary but why am I dropped? It has happened repeatedly but no more! I am a subscriber to CTT, Trains and Classic Trains but that and a dime gets you a piece of bubble gum. Tired of playing the losing [for me]game!

Fife - sounds good!  Can't wait to see it.

Kurt, Doug, Jim - I have a Cutler Hammer Breaker Box... you can only use 'Type Z' breakers with this box and they are only made by Cutler Hammer... and they are $4.00 more per breaker that Square D... Oh Well... $11.97 vs $7.97 isn't much to get upset about.  I put the 20-Amp tandem in and purchased and installed a 15-Amp tandem.  So I now have one open 15-Amp tandem.  Now I have to redo the circuit map on the breaker box door... no biggie, wanted to do that anyway.

Threw the main breaker and everything works without a hitch... including the Air Compressor! Smile [:)]

When I start the layout and the two elevated tracks I am going to have my BiL's friend come out and install a second box and upgrade the main to 400-Amp service.  This will allow me to install an Electric Instant Hot Water Heater when I move the hot water tank to the new utility closet... but that is a few months out since the wife purchased the new vanities for the Master Bathroom last weekend... I don't even have 1 project done (the shed) and she is already stocking up for the next one... Sigh [sigh]
