tmcc boy - a couple of maples, a few spruces, and plenty of cedars (the nasty prickly kind)... If you're that interested (and really are 16 goin on 17) post a pic.   Just check your ego at the door, because the "heartbreakers" are rather proficient at picking you apart, fileting your gizzards, and leaving you to writhe in agony in the hot summer sun.

They get that from their MOMMA!!! (shhhhhh...)

Mornin All

Been pretty busy with the "G" and "O" projects. Yesterday was one that I would prefer to forget about real quick.

Saturday got the ballasting & gluing finished, did rail inspection yesterday morning to make sure non off the ballast would create a derailment. Did some minor cleanup on the ballast and cleaned any remnants of glue from the track, and now it's "Showtime".

The little LGB engine just goes zipping along the front straight, goes around the the Sago curve, zips down the back stretch thru the slight dogleg right, goes behind Rockpile Mtn over Flagstone Wash and CRUNCH. I learned yesterday that either (1) it is the nature of the rail clamp beast or (2) I possibly overtorqued the rail clamp cap screws. The geometry of the curves had changed as a result of installing the rail clamps and the resident idiot did not realize this until after everything was all glued down and had my first test run. Dunce [D)] It increased the diameter of the curve enough that the locos would, as the front swung wide, contact the front of the upper retaining wall. Dead [xx(]

Problem solved, a few minutes with a chisel and a 5lb. hammer gave me sufficient clearance for all traffic to prceed w/o delay. All I needed was for someone to play the "John Henry"  song. Approve [^]

Got lots to do today, gotta get ready for an unplanned run at the museum tomorrow. However, to look at it in a positive way at least it's not Free Tuesday. First Tuesday of the month is free and you talk about CROWDS.

Later Dudes and Dudettes

Big Smile [:D]

Fife,

No thanks then. I've had that happen to me too many times, I'm not ready for that to happen again. Plus, long distance wouldn't work either......I want to see the person a lot. I'm on the right. I was sick that day, which is why I'm so pale.

Well, heres me anyway.

Fife,

We always had a standing rule when the date came to pick her up he HAD to come in and meet us before they went out. Those evenings were always GUN cleaning nites, in the living room of course rite by the front door, whether they had been fired or not.

Gotta love Dads though... they can come up with some pretty amuzing ways to attempt to intimidate a young guy.

Reminds me of the time, after serving in the Army, I went to pick-up a date and her father was cleaning his AR-15.  I'm standing in their kitchen, and say 'Now why would someone want a weapon that jams when it gets dirty, has round jams after firing 200 or so rounds, has to be thoroughly cleaned after 1000 rounds, has so many small parts they are easily lost in the field, and fires rounds that couldn't stop a 2 week old rabbit.'  He looks up and says, 'This is one of the finest firearms in the world.'  'Really?  That's why the US Military has been searching for a replacement for it since Vietnam.  Most servicemen prefer the old carbines, M-60, or the trusty 45 - which the Military has erroneously started to replace with the ever popular 9mil.  Personally I'd take a 50 cal over all of them any day!'

He just sat there dumbfounded... then I added, 'By the way, the AK-47's 7.62mm round is more effective than the 5.62 AR-15 round, and it doesn't have as many problems with locking or jamming when it gets dirty, and it can even fire after it has been dropped in a water.  But other than that the M-16 is a fine wall trophy.'

Jim,
Actually he was an ex-Marine and after my 'talk' he was curious how I knew so much about military firearms... I told him we could discuss further some other time as there was a certain young lady who was anxiously awaiting our departure (she was standing in the kitchen door with a non-too-happy look upon her face).  On the way out I explained - 3 years Active Duty, US Army... I took her out a couple more times, but her father didn't press the conversation.  She was a 2 years ahead of me in college (only 1 year younger).  She wanted to go to bars and drink at 20 and since I was 21 she thought (mistakenly) that I would oblige her...

Forgot to mention when he was putting the rifle back together, he didn't put the firing pin in... I pointed this out AFTER he finished assembling it... Wink [;)]

Good afternoon,

After my morning workout, I stopped at Barry's Train Shop and shot the breeze with Mike for a while.  He gave me the highlights from the TCA convention in Denver (last week of June).  Another customer came in with some problems and I helped Mike make some repairs, held things in place while he soldered.

Didn't find anything new or exciting, bought four packs of Kadee couplers.

BTW, I think I might have Jean convinced to go to the TCA convention in Burlington, VT next year.

Fife, I can vouch for Colin.  Met him and his Dad at the large scale show in York last year.  BTW has your pond recovered to the point that you can put fish into it?

Take care,

Got my TCA magazine - very interesting.  Sorry to hear about Grizzly Flats being split up and all, but sounds like most of it will be saved to be appreciated by others.  Took truck to be serviced, picked up some new shoes at Walmart, and also picked up my glasses.  Finally got to watch Pan's Labyrinth - very good.  Don't expect a Hollywood ending though.  Need to finish cleaning the truck and put new stickers on, so TTFN

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  I picked up the mower, got the oil changed in the Cruiser, and watched my soaps.  The dining car had biscuits and bacon on it for "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

jefelectric - I know Colin is just fine.  It's been fun messing with him.  Truth be told, if he showed up at my doorstep, he and I would probably spend more together than he would with one of the "heartbreakers".  He'd be like that future son-in-law (with a model railroad pedigree) that I would have always wanted.  Instead, my prospects are only interested in their new tattoos and nose piercings...

Fife,

Tattoos?! Wow, I hate them. Disgusting if you ask me. I would rather spend that money on my hopefully soon to be in the drive way (I doubt it though) Nissan Z33 350Z. Maybe even a R34 or R33 Nissan Skyline.

BTW, I'm happy for you regarding the fish. I helped my grandpop put a pond in a few years ago and a year ago we found the fish all dead. Turns out someone dumped fertilizer in the pond...........I think I know who it is, but I'm not 100% sure.

My dad and I are planning a trip to the B&ORR musem soon. Maybe you and 88 could make some time to come to the museum?

JOHN, if you got the newest O GAUGER Magazine,  there is an article in the back called THE CABOOSE or something like that?  Our man from BARRYs, MIKE is recognized in the article.  Doesn't give his last name but says MIKE a worker at one of the dealer tables in the PURPLE HALL.  Who else?

Colin,
B&O RR museum?  Hecks YEAH!  I'm busy with school and house projects for the next 4 weeks... think that puts us at August 25th?  If I can make I will definitely be there... Susan will probably decide to forego the trip though... BTW - August 4/5 there is a Train Show in Timonium, very close to Fife and I as well... I'm trying for Saturday, but may not make till Sunday...

Morning to All.  Another beautiful night for sleeping. Cool temps down in the mid 50's last night.  Only going to 82 today.  Sweet weather, but we sure could use some of that rain they are getting in the UK, hope Nick and John Baker are staying dry.

Fife - Sure would like some recommendations on the Eats in and around Romney.  Not sure if we are day tripping or staying over night. After making so many trips to Mo'town over the years, three hours out and three hours back, we've gotten used to the ride.  I believe the train leaves at 11:00 AM and gets back in at 5:00 PM.

Have a great day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a rainy 60 degrees. Woke up to thunder. Going up to 75 today, with rain predicted all day.

Today, I will be doing a few projects on the computer. Running trains, later, and relaxing. Did some track work yesterday, and some cleaning. Got the track cleaned and it was dirty. I need to finish dusting off the cars and buildings. Not much to do outside. Shade tree is not needed today.

Have a safe trip.....Chief.

Well, Dining car is here and well stocked from " points west ". Time to enjoy some breakfast and watch it rain. Later.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Soccer tournament begins tonight.  We lost another one of our good players to injury so we may not make it past the first round, which would really be disappointing after a good regular season.

We had a great weekend.  We drove up Saturday to Westfield Center, which is near Lodi and west of Akron.  We stayed at the Westfield Inn, which is a fantastic hotel.  The room was very plush.  We asked at the desk if they served others besides Westfield clients and employees.  They do and the rates are quite reasonable for the size of the room and the amenities.  We drove east toward Akron to get something to eat and ate at a Ponderosa.  Back at the motel, we watched Beckham make his MLS debut.  Sunday morning we left early for the track.  Although they were serving breakfast, we stopped and got something for Lucas because of the milk allergy.  We got into the track ok and managed to see some of the Indycar warmups.  We got to the hospitality tent, which was right the pit area.  We wandered around the garage area for a while, and then watched the IPS race.  They had lunch for us and then the IRL race started.  Manning took advantage of some other drivers' mistakes and was running third until the first pitstop, where he dropped to fifth.  The weather was absolutely perfect, and the crowd was good.  We had plenty to eat and drink and everybody had a good time.  I got AJ's autograph as well as Larry Foyt's and Scott Goodyear's.  Lucas got Sam Hornish, Roger Penske, and David Letterman.  Traffic was a little slow leaving the track as it took 45 minutes to get to I-71 and then it was stop and go until we got to Columbus.  We saw where the Crew was playing a game.  I thought about stopping, but we were all tired.  We got home about 9 PM.

Just the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
