Good afternoon from dry and dusty Dixie! The one good thing from the drought is there are no mosquitos to be found. A lot of clouds float by overhead teasing us but they aren't dropping any rain. Local cattlemen are auctioning off their livestock now rather than in the fall. Grass is scarce and hay prices are soaring. Farmers are having it tough too. Some have irrigation systems but most do not. We just keep praying for rain and hoping.

Oldest daughter has 21st birthday tomorrow. We'll take her out to eat tonight. She flies to Jacksonville, FL on Thurdsay to visit her closest childhood friend (our other, other daughter Smile [:)] ). The wife and I head to Birmingham the following Thursday for her heart procedure. We're looking forward to getting that done!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Dr. John - looks like we need to add some prayer emphasis for some rain for your region. They will not say the drought is busted here as one season with rain (yep - this spring has been the only wet weather we have had for several years) does not bust a drought. Almost all the lakes are full but it appears water restrictions will remain as no one knows what this summer and into fall holds for the N Texas area.

Hope your B-Day party for your daughter is fun!

Regards, Roy

With all this talk about rain. Could someone remind me what that is?  I seem to remember somthing about that when I was younger, but its been awhile.  I've also heard that you can sometimes get some with an optional sound and flashing light kit?

Breaking news from Prattville . . .

We actually had a little rain shower today. Didn't last long, maybe ten or fifteen minutes, but it sure can't hurt! Made the air seem a little cleaner, anyway! Keep the prayers coming! Smile [:)]

Don, I too, have forgotten what rain was! Up where I live (approximately 1 hr 30 min drive from your neck of the woods) we had less than 1/2" all winter. I know I live in the "desert" but wow, it is way too dry this year. And today, we have the lovely winds!

Good afternoon everyone,

It was a suprisingly quick day here. School was fine, nothing bad happened at all. So far, the weather has been nice here.

Rain!? I wish I could have sent some to the people that need it. We got some this weekend, just like last weekend, and the weekend before. I'll do my rain dance for you guys for free (I'll be nice, unlike JaabatWink [;)].)

Jim Trumpie I'm glad that you like your 360. It's worth every penny that I spent on it. I don't see why people would buy the PS3, first of all with its $700 price tag, and the fact that most games, such as Call of Duty 3, aren't split screen/multiplayer enabled. Also, my friend Jake bought the Forza 2 this weekend, and he said it's a heck of a lot better than the demo, so I may pick it up now.

Good afternoon everyone from beautiful Ohio where it was only 71 degrees today.

I have been sooo busy.  Had to run to the store to buy more pins to stick in this doll that is a spitting image of the Chief. Laugh [(-D]

Chief, did you ever get that box of ticks I sent you for your birthday?  Anytime I send you a nice gift you fail to mention its receipt.  I assume it is just old age. Laugh [(-D]

Truthfully, I have been in class all day learning about LRFD.   I have to study tonight for the test tomorrow.  Colin, do you have any hints for this old guy?

looks like its gonna rain ....good we need it......hope everyone is doing well tonight...

Zeke, You can probably fix it, or at least make it run.  From the box it appears to be an early MTH set.  Is marked to have loco sounds or just a horn and whistle?

If it were mine I probably would just put in a Williams board and wire the motor up to that.  To bad no one lives close to you to give you a hand.  The shipping back and forth is a killer with the new USPS rates.

I assume it doesn't do anything when you put power on the track, is that correct?  Does the headlight light?  Are you sure you have power on the track?

Even if the engine doesn't work the transformer alone is worth way more than you paid for the set.

ok well it is loco sound

as far as putting in a new board i think thats a little more advanced then i can do right now. i wouldnt even know what board to get.

and when i stick it on the track nothing happens but my transformer resets from a overload. no headlight nothing, I  can hear a faint sound sorta like a buzzing but real low.

wish i lived more towards the east coast also, lots of members live that way

Rain ?

Isn't that what comes out of those pop-ups in the lawn when the timer tells it to rain. Whistling [:-^]

Did some work on the substructure timbers, 4x8's, on our front entry steps over the weekend and now I am paying the price.  It ain't smart to work with that big stuff without a helper, somehow in trying to jockey one of them around into it's proper location I separated a couple of ribs. Unfortunately they are mine and not pork ribs.

Chief,

Keep an eye on the weather, didn't hear all the details but it sounds as if it is supposed to be absolutely wonderful out in the southwestern desserts the later part of this week.

Hot, Windy and Lots of Sand & Dust moving around. Clown [:o)]

Sorry to hear about the ribs, that's gotta hurt!

I can attest to the weather in the desert (at least here in California) It is quite warm, quite windy and a whole lotta dirt moving! I was down in San Diego last week and see why my niece chose to live down there-nice temperature and all. I could even deal with the humidity! (which we have NONE of up here)

Fife
figured that would be the case with the switcher... Sad [:(]
as for projects... no painting, except I have to spray paint the shutters and front door black - don't ask - so I picked up a new sprayer for the air compressor... Smile [:)]  have some lights to mount and some wainscotting to hang in the power room, but there isn't enough room in there for two people, so that is my project to screw up!  LOL!  Have some demo work to do in the master bathroom, then wall fixing up (due to tile removal), then laying tile.  Do you know how to replace a shower faucet?  Not the ones that hook up to the tub, but the ones with the single handle?  Confused [%-)]

As for the GP-7... It isn't the fireball scheme... it is the white with black top?  I knew you would ask a 'technical' question!  LOL!  I'll look it up and see if I can figure it out...

---edit---
It looks like this... I know this isn't a GP-7!

88 - I've never hooked up one of those single handle jobs.  They are in all the hotels now, and I either scald or freeze myself!

Those black-white-red engines are what WESTERN MARYLAND called the "circus" scheme.  It was a handsome paint scheme that actually lasted on CSXT into the 90's.  I actually have a picture of WM GP7 5634 (nee 22) at Grant St Station from 7/90.

Misty,

I never knew where Phelan was located, just looked it up in 'Streets'.  Now I know, Northeast of LA.  Is that area considered high country desert?

Brent, If you have the faucet and the instructions that come with it, aren't enough info, go on line to the manufacturers site.  Most companies have tons of info on line.  Also lots of DIY sites that can help.  Never installed on of those either so can't help from personal experience.

88 here is my ABBA with 3 of the 6 passenger cars all this is by williams

by the way that board is 10' 2" long the only way to get it completely was to back up to wall and take it at a angle. Also each car is 72 footers amd measure like 17.5 inches long end to end

Bill, Fife, and John...

I have the instructions for the faucet, and I looked at it and the instructions and thought 'OH GREAT!'  The shower currently has one installed (different model), but with any kind of luck they are the same... LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to remove all the tile in bathroom first... they used the 4inch white square tiles and the wife absolutely hates them, so that is my first 'major' project.  Figure to start that in mid-July.  Going with 6 or 12 inch squares, tanish in color, on the floor and 3 feet up the wall and on the tub and shower surrounds... finish later... wife needs puter for conference call...

John,

Yes we are in the high desert as opposed to Palm Springs which is the lower desert. I live on the outskirts of Wrightwood which is a mountain resort here. We are in a nice climate with mild to hot temperatures during the summer months. The nicest thing is that we are away from the smog that we lived in when we lived down in Riverside County. We may have dirt but not a lot of smog.

Ah!  Yes, I remember you referencing the paint scheme as 'circus' before... When I was at the LHS we had it pulling 8 boxcars that were painted very similiar, or maybe they were reefers... can't remember which, but it looked awesome puffing all that smoke... So now I have to find some WM stock to pull behind it... Then I want to get a set of WM F3s or F9s to pull some passenger cars... they will run on the elevated track through the train room and into the basement.  Wife wants an elevated track to run through her wine cellar into the wine tasting/bar area (wine cellar is shelled in, the other area is yet to be built).  Figure I will do that area first so the wife is happy and I can get to work on the train room...

I figure I will be able to start the train room some time later this fall...

88: I bought a MOEN shower/tub set and the directions are pretty straight forward.  You can pick up a book on Plumbing at Home Depot that shows some directions, but I would look at it first to make sure it applies to your particular situation.  Also, Don is right, as usual, most manufacturers have more info online.

Got my TCA card - thanks to my sponsors!Big Smile [:D]

Wife and kids are in KC and I'm here watching Dawn of the Dead with some AB product and thinking about trains, all at the same time.  Picked up two magazines at Schnucks, Trains and Classic Trains.  Should keep me busy until bedtime.  Can't run trains - stuff is piled in my way Angry [:(!]  Maybe tomorrow.

Fortner - there's a joke in there somewhere Jim...   Hey, BTW, how is that 6x6 layout plan coming?

88 - a nice string of grey cement hoppers with speed lettering would do.  Amd you'll need a matching caboose, of course.  Let's see, 4 months 'til YORK?

rt - thought you were showing off your train's magna-traction with that first shot...
