Sad [:(] Sad news.  With watching all the kids channels and then watching Voyages on Steam engines, we missed the news.  It was only when we read the Yahoo opening screen that we saw the collapse.  While my wife has family up that way, we are not close and I suppose that bad news travels quickly.  If one of them was injured, we would have heard.

On other fronts, I won a few cars on auction last night.  Nothing special, but the price was right.  No eBay for me, went with train station's auction.  Wife is going to her Father's house this weekend with the kids, so I hope to get plenty of wiring done on the layout.  Got some 10a fast blow, reset breakers to use in line.  One thing I need to work on is the plan for the control panel.

I am on call and last night had a bit of a painful experience.  They have these new beds for patients that have large batteries and motors so one person can "operate the bed" and make it drive down the hall and to the ICU.  This particular case, the patient was on some special equipment and I had to go along with them.  The Tech who was working the controls puts this thing into "drive" and it ran over my foot....I am here to tell ya, those beds are HEAVY!  Anyway, I now have a broken toe and while it is a small thing, it sure does hurt.  WHAAAAA. OK, I'm done.  At least I don't have to do too much walking, and now I have another excuse not to exercise.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Dennis

Good morning from a hot sunny Crystal Lake where I just found out about the bridge tragedy - brings me back to when that section of I-95 collapsed in Conn in the 80s - bridges are scary.

Jim, sounds like a battery - you can swap it yourself.

Good morning all.

Scary thing that bridge accident and a bus full of kids made it. The first thing I saw was that yellow bus.

HOT and hot that covers it. I plan to stay inside today guess that means something on the three rail will get some exercise.  I'll be back,          Sir James

Good morning everyone,

What happened last night was tragic. We found out by accident. My dad was watching Rescue Me, and hit the chnnel button instead of the volume control, and it landed on the news channel. Prayers for eveyone involved.

Well, I got my TV. I am so happy with it. It's a 42'' flat panel Vizio. It's such a nice tv.

Well, off to eat breakfast.

Have a good day.

Morning all.  Heat is going up more today and no rain in sight.  Off to Mom's down east.  Sure is a mess in MN.  Was telling wife that I was in line at the wake Sunday afternoon with a recently retired NC DOT bridge inspector.  Was telling him about something Buckeye had sent me on bridge failure on the UP.  He was telling me about how bad lots of bridges are.  Shame.  Spend billions in the "sand" and can't afford to keep our highways and bridges in good repair. Mornin' boys.  Terrible news out of Minneapolis.  Really slow with the casualty numbers...trust me, those in the know already know...  I immediatley thought of the double decker highway collapse during the Oakland earthquake, which apparently every newscaster had forgot about last night.

Chief - I couldn't bring up your interview, but did read the article.  Population going to double in next few years.  Will the migration to your area be from south of the border, or NORTH of your border.  Will there be GRITS-FREE zones?

Phish - welcome back, Sir.

rt - good luck with the job hunt.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps and humidity in the 90s.  At least I do not have to mow the grass until it rains again.  My dad and I watched the tourney finale last night and there were seven people from my team there to watch it.  I guess we just did not want the season to end.  It was a shootout with the team that beat us winning the title.

It is indeed a tragedy what happened in Minnesota.  I heard on the news this morning the bridge had been inspected annually so this is extremely odd.  My wife suggested calling some friends who live up there to see if they were ok, but I felt like the phone lines would be busy.  We will check later.  Thoughts and prayers go out to all affected.

It was just the normal fare on the dining car for "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 66 degrees. Going up to 90, again today with sunshine all day. It is a hot week.

Prayers are going out to the folks in Minneapolis. That is a tragic happening. I still wonder what the cause was. This needs a lot of attention.

Today is a day for relaxing. I have a few errands to run and then keep cool in the shade. May go into the cool train room for awhile.

CNN has a video of the bridge during collapsing.

Well, Dining car is here and ready. Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Good Morning all

I pray for the souls of those who died in the accident and the consolation of their loved ones.

I've been away from the Pot for a bit, got back last night from an excursion to the South (Smokies), and was glad to see the Ohio River again!

Got a lot of catching up to do, I'll check back in later.

May God bless your needs

Thank God that those tank cars that got crushed weren't loaded with a haz mat like chlorine gas or petro chemicals.

Thank God he's okay!  My sister was going to school in St. Paul until about 3 years ago.  They had a guy on tv who had just crossed the bridge when he felt it go behind him.  This is my wife's nightmare after she was on a trip as a kid and they crossed one of those bridges down in Florida (like in True Lies).

Our youngest son works in downtown MPLS and lives in St. Paul. He normally takes the bus to work but today he drove in as he needed to stay late at his office. He usually takes that bridge to go home but when he saw that the traffic was clogged on that bridge he took some side streets and took another route, he drove under that bridge 15 minutes before it fell-----God was with him tonight! It took me over two hours to get through to him as all the phone lines were jammed. What a tragic event, no one will know for days how many folks are missing. We have much to be thankful for tonight.

Lee F,  Good evening to you.  I have a battery charger but only two of my engines are new enough to have the plug. Taking bodies off to charge the battery is a pane and have you seen where some of them are shoehorned under everything else. I'm using BCRs when the batteries fail(won't hold charge anymore). Lionel engines will start without one why can't MTH make a circuit that way. After all they have copied everything Lionel ever made all the way back to prewar items.

Jim Fortner, It will take a while before your friends pain goes away, my wife has been through it, but after a few days it will slowly ease. Best wishes to her.

Evenin' all. I just got done soaking a Conrail box car in Superclean to remove the graphics. Can't decide whether to paint it up as a B&M or a New Haven...John (my son) says New Haven. Since the car is already blue, I'm leaning towards B&M - like we need any more.

We ran a long freight tonite headed by our new Santa Fe Scale F3. Sure is a great looking locomotive! Still waiting for the B unit to arrive. On the inner track, a NYC RS3 pulled a shorter freight. I really like that cheapie engine.

Have a great night everyone. You too, Chief!

Soooo - Doc cut Mayor Elect Chief a new one?  Blush [:I]

Our friend went home today after her surgery (hysterectomy + the works).  She's doing well, but has had some pain and took a while to get it stopped - harder to get rid of it then to prevent it.  Hubby had to make a quick trip to the pharmacy.  We had their kids over last night, then got them up this morning to take to sitter.

New Lionel catalog looks great - can't wait for my Hogwart's Express train to show up!

Still hot & humid down here in south Florida with an occasional afternoon shower or two, around 90 degrees or better.

sir james l, are you talking about the MTH Proto Sound two engines?  It could very well be ansolvable mystery for anybody not at MTH as to why the battery is needed for the start-up feature.  Remember that the battery is there for the memory circuit, without the battery your MTH engine would do whatever the circuit board felt like doing to include nothing at all.    You can buy a battery charger(less than $20.00) for the MTH batteries that plugs into the engine somewhere, on steam locomotives it is on the tender, don't know where on a diesel.

Nobody home again.

rtraincollector  When would be a good time for me to call?

It's 95 right now and they said 90s till after dark, no rain forecast of course. I ran some "M" engines today don't get to run the others, got to keep the batterys up. I asked one of the "M" reps when they were here about why they could not get rid of the battery and all I got was it was needed for memory. Ok fine but why can't it start without it. I kept asking he kept changing the subject. He was nice and polite thou. Fife, coffees old had to make a fresh pot.

Hey all in newport, TN. now have a place and even getting internet this week sometime waiting for the phone company (bell south/the new AT&T) to send modem and all so can hook up. For cable they wanted over $100.00 just for expanded cable (no pay channels (hbo cinamax) and dsl. I got direct tv and phone and internet for $99.95 plus the normale fees so it'll be like $118 but still the other was befor the normal fees.

Chief you behaving ? When you coming to knoxville, TN bass pro shop again ( I guess it would be again) its only about 40 miles away from me.

Boy my chance of a home layout is gone for a while anyway need to get a job and a bigger place but this will do for now till things get going again.

Hi all,

16:30hrs here in Peterborough. Boiling hot sunny dayCool [8D]. Which makes a nice change.

Had a intresting email today. When the Lionel Hogwarts set was first anounced I sent a email to one of the UK's major model magazines. They were enthusiastic about it and wanted to feature it in their news section.

With the release of the Vol 2 catalog and actual production pics online. I again sent a email. I was told that after my first email the magazine had contacted Lionel and asked if they could feature the set in their news section and could they have some photos and permission to do so. The magazine had got a very curt if not rude response from Lionel.

Now 3-rail O is a small market in the UK compared to the USA but here Lionel had the chance to make a splash with some good free PR.

Maybe I don't have all the facts but the phrase "Foot in mouth" comes to mind.Banged Head [banghead]
