So after I posted the pic of my trainroom Fife got me to thinking about not covering up that nice wainscotting and leaving the 'nook' accessible for use as a display case... so I asked him to put together a sample 'island' layout so I could see what he was talking about.

He brought it with him on Sunday and I have been busy loading it into RR-Track and making some modifications.  His plan called for tubular track, and I have my heart set on Atlas, so I had to modify the track plan a little.

Here is the 'rough' results... let me know what ya think:

Well, no soundboard today.  Got a call right after posting.  Met TV17 news lady and been doing an interview in the heat and humidity all morning.  Interviewing about us being the fastest growing town in Wake Co which is 6th in the Nation.  New proposed development will increase our population by 2,000+ people and we now have 2,000+ expected population growth due to houses approved and being built.  Just got in.  Now off to the Dr's office.  HELP!!!!!  No rest for the wearied.  Later

LOL!  That is great!

When I met Susan we were talking about naming our cars (she names all her cars), well she tells me she named her Silver BMW 'The Silver Bullet'.  I burst out laughing... and she asks why... I asked her if she understood the symbolism behind a woman and the silver bullet?  She didn't... so I told her the name of the original unnatural pleasure device for a woman... so she had named my white Chevy Malibu MAXX 'The Fly' (because she said it looked like a fly), so when I traded it in on my BMW it was affectionately named 'The Venus Fly Trap' or 'Venus' for short... and since my car has developed a vibration it is now 'Venus 93n1$'... gotta love a woman with a sense of humor!

Off to Baltimore tomorrow evening - ugh - the Chicago delay cost me a day at home before leaving again.

I have a leaking lawn sprinkler valve I need to find and fix. Grass grows over the valve boxes and makes them hard to find.

Hail to the Chief? Confused [%-)] or is it GRITS to the Chief!

Good morning from a sunny and hot Chicago where I am glad Roy and his family got home safely - too bad he had to turn right around and travel again for work.

Another year older, Colin? I almost overlooked the big day... Happy B-Day [bday]

Love the billboards, guys. Great job, John!

Don, the L is just as loud and scary as ever - especially when underneath it.

Finally figured out what was wrong with my main line... and boy, do I feel foolish. After carefully examining the tracks again last evening for any 'unjoined' pieces or some other reason for a short, I finally noticed the transformer for some reason was unplugged from the power strip. Bingo. The trolley on the main line sounded like the starship Enterprise powering up and we were in business again... Just goes to show you ... something.

Good morning everyone,

Thank's Don and Chief! Today, I'm a year older. I don't feel any different, though. I'll be alone for most of the day, but I have family coming over for dinner tonight. I'm still waiting for my Ferrari hat and shirt to come. It's been almost 3 weeks since I ordered it. I hope it comes today.

I hope everyone has a good day.

HI GIZ,

65 and not that humid today.  laz CAMP at 517 this morning, still dark but nice did a 6 miler, slow, just enjoyed the run.

Went and hauled homesote for friend then cut it for him.  Got the whole top of layout done.  Now have to wait till next week to get into school to rip underside of layout, supports.  Going to build underside with 1 x 3s every 16 inches oc.  Then use 2 x 4s for legs, he only wants it to be 24 inches off floor, so he can see it from his chair while watching tv.

To get HOT rest of the week, stay cool.

Good morning to all. The weather here is much like most of you, 90s till fri.no rain of course. I might get out early and run the trimmer around the edges but the hay, I mean grass has not grown at all. When does the next mag. come out? It's still early I'll see what the day brings.

mornin' fellas... not much going on here today.  have to get my MS Project File completed for school and posted, then pretty much open the rest of the day.

Was reading the thread about Chuck's new billboard... looks awesome, so does Buckeye's... speaking of Buckeye, haven't seen any updated photos on his extension...

Working on transferring Fife's layout plan to RR-Track... that should be fun!

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps and humidity in the 80s, pushing 90.  I came home, ate supper, and fell asleep in the chair.  Did wake up long enough to do some tree trimming, and listen to how Lucas will be "just friends" to the latest girl.  He is "on the prowl" again.  Ahhh, the teenage years.  Thank God I will never have to go thru those again!!!!

Bran muffins are on the dining car for "Points East".  Congrats to the chief for his mayoralty.  Nice to hear Doug and Roy got to meet.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 65 degrees. Going up to 90, today, with sunshine all day. It's gonna be a hot day.

Today, I am taking it easy. Cut grass last night after supper. Finally got it all finished. Need to do a little trimming today, but not in the afternoon. I may spend some time in the train room, later, taking some new pictures Need to put some time into scenery.

Wife is doing well. One more follow-up doctor's appointment. Looks like everything is healing good.

Dining Car is here and ready for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good morning, everyone. Ran trains last night. Our 2055 was pulling a loooooong freight! I saw a wonderfully restored 2055 in the new CTT photo album, but it had a 2065 boiler front. Anyone else notice that?

The boys were in rare form last night. By 7:00 I had had enough and sent them to bed. That'l learn 'em....yeah, right!

Six, two, and even. Over and out.

Seems like months since I have posted on the forum.  This summer has been so busy.  Hardly gone fishing this summer.  Moving my son to St. Louis for his first year of Law school and helping him with the details of that.  I still have to put decals on my reefer project before I weather it.  I hope to be a better poster in the fall and winter.  Hope all is well with all posters.   Smile [:)]

Ahhhhhhhhh - we finally made it home! Got stuck in Chicago as Doug said. Doug and I had been trying to meet all last week and kept missing each other. So what a stroke of luck when we were able to get together for lunch today! We had lunch at an old Al Capone hangout just around the corner from where Doug works. Doug is a real gentleman and it was an honor to finally meet him.

As Doug states - he can look out his office window and watch the "L" trains rumble by. We had a great time riding the "L". The downtown portion runs on girders over 100 years old. It is like stepping back in time. We did a special tour on the "L" last week where we were on a special tour train that circles the downtown loop 3 times. The trackwork is just like in the old photos you have probably seen. The Loop Quincy station has been restored to late 1800's appearance. Very classic.

To compete with Cleveland - there are over 50 lift bridges (mostly for automobiles) over the Chicago river and most of them still operate. There are quite a few double deckers! They have left one RR bascule bridge in place permanently open (tracks on each side are long gone) for historical purposes.

BTW Doug - thanks for the gift and thanks again for being able to meet! Hope to do it again sometime.

We had a great time at the LCCA convention and I won some good prizes at the banquet and got to challenge my checkbook for the auction stuff I won.

I will try to post some photos later but I am off to Baltimore this week for business.

Regards, Roy

Got zero done on soundboard.  Spent most of AM of phone with RR.  Trying to get some email issues solved.  The State's network and CA [RR Anti-virus] do not speak the same language.  They finally figured it out.  Then the CA guy got on the phone [a three way] to solve some minor settings issues.  Could not hear me.  "I'll call you right back."  Never has yet.  Email to RR supervisor, he called back, he was going to get CA to call and still no call.  Tomorrow, Time Warner headquarters will hear from the Chief.  One thing, RR uses folks in Toronto and they speak ENGLISH.  Afternoon was spent on Town business [planned for only one hour and ended up into the evening between RR calls].  Sigh [sigh]  Try to work on layout tomorrow AM.  Dr's apt in afternoon.  Somemore spots to get cut out on arm and leg [ouch].

Good night.

Jim,
I used Deck-So-Ports from Home Depot.  I have 15 of them supporting a 10 x 16 shed.  I am thinking of adding a few more just for prosperity sake... not sure yet... will determine that tomorrow after I get the last 6 in place.  It seems very solid already, but I'm no engineer... will post pics later in the week of the progress.  This is a tran related project because if I don't get this done I won't be able to get the master bathroom remodeled which means I can't start my layout... Wink [;)]

Fife - no problem!  Showed Susan the 'plan' she liked it, but she says I have to change the name of the river... LOL!  I agree about the pics... think they will stay locked away!

Dinner [dinner] Just got home from Bandana's, a local BBQ joint.  BBQ Pork, Sausage, Baked Tater, and Green Beans.  I asked, but no Grits are served - Chuck, you might like this place!  They have Ice tea, but no Sweet Tea, so I had a Diet Pepsi.  It was the worst service we ever had there - my buddy Dave finally went to get more sodas for the kids from the MANAGER.  They kicked into gear after that, but I only tipped $5 (about 15 percent).  Usually will go 20 percent.  Other buddy, John, stiffed her for the tip and walked - only paid the bill.  We were still eating (wife showed up late), so she ate fast and we got out - the waitress was really ticked off.  Oh well, maybe next time she'll actually wait on the customers!Dunce [D)]

John, we are running low on M&M's, but still have mini-Hershey Bars and Popcorn, pick your poison!

88 - What kind of foundation on your shed?  Just gravel, or did you pour cement or brick???

Nick - I like hot tea with a little milk!  My grandma used to drink that all the time.

All is well.

Congratulations Chief!  Dinner [dinner]  When's the party?  Don't tell me you spent all of your donations on campaigning?  I believe trains can be considered campaign expenses if you officially ask someone in the train shop to vote for you.  I guess you're the boss now, and you can make the rules, so it doesn't really matter.

So how many votes did you get?Whistling [:-^]

Found a Stihl professional gas line trimmer at a garage sale this weekend...$5.  No trains.  Came home and told my wife I bought a gas trimmer (oldest daughter and I went to the Depot for a few things).  She said OK.  That's all...  Ok??.....     Talk about taking the wind out of your sails.

Wife is still hanging in there, nothing new on the health front.

Diego was a big success at the zoo.  We bought our 2-yo a Fischer-Price camera a few weeks ago, she brought it to the lunch, and they let her take all the photos of Diego she wanted.  (Fischer-Price sponsered the event)

so are you up for another round this weekend?

Susan wants me to tell you the grass is really green tonight!  Wonder what she means by that... hmmm...

Glad you liked the brisket, corn and taters... have to make B-B-Q chicken the next time you're up.
