Morning boys.
mistyk11 - I use artists gloss medium for my rivers, creeks, and ponds. First I paint black in my "deep" spots. Then I use any sandy colored tan/yellow for the banks. Then I spray in Pullman green until I get the look I want. (I use an air brush because it gives a fading look). When the colors look good, I grab an old cheap paint brush (the kind you get out of a water color set) and start dabbing in gloss medium. Usually take 2-3 coats (allow a day drying in between). Gives me the wet look I'm gunning for, and does create the illusion of depth.
The new layout is officially a farm scene! I ordered some holstein cows, a cow pasture grass mat (with "molehills") some corn fields and sunflowers to get started. My son has some John Deere tractors to add as well. Now we just need to paint the foam board so we can get started with some dirt roads, etc. I told him he can't change his mind now that I have placed the order...We are saying goodbye to Area 51 for now. I'm keeping my eyes open for the barn, windmill, etc. At least with this one, he can still actively play with it and the things to use for it are much easier to find. We'll post some pics once we get started on it.
The only problem is he still wants a pond and we had the worst time trying different ways to get the "water" to stay. I see that Scenic Express (thanks to John for the website link) has some blue clear plastic fake water that you can paint underneath to make it look deep. Has anyone ever used this and if so, were you happy with the results? We are just looking for something simple but fairly realistic looking. We are staying with the insulfoam board and I have tried sealing the bottom then using the resin type water, the Mod Podge glue stuff and nothing seems to work. Obviously I'm doing something wrong but just can't figure it out. With the way he changes layouts, the plastic water looks like the easiest way to go but I want it to look nice as well.

Good night all.
Phelan is about 50 miles north of Riverside, just west of the I 15 freeway and Victorville. Its a nice little desert community near a nice mountain community. I think that keeps our temps a little lower than other desert towns. If you came thru Palm Springs when you drove out, you probably came along the I 10 freeway and into Riverside. The I 15 freeway runs north and south up into Las Vegas.
BTW, we drove past the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, MO and I thought of you. That has to be the biggest bunch of buildings I have ever seen! It looks like they have added on since I was last there. It is quite a bit bigger than the new one they just opened in Rancho Cucamonga (about 30 minutes south of me along the 15 freeway). We will be visiting the new one this week!
Good morning from New England, and yes, I did sleep late this morning. I needed it. Me and the kids are listening to "Elvis Only" on the radio while my wife catches up on some sleep. She must have eaten something that disagreed with her last night.
We have some kid's birthday party to attend today, but on the bright side, there will be plenty of MILFs there. The kid's dad is new to O gauge railroading so I'll be able to see his progress in his new layout room. Also have a secret project I'm working on, and let me tell you, it's difficult going. And if there is any time left, I'd like to get another coat of stain on that table I started yesterday.
watch you fingers, I'm hanging up.

Very busy day yesterday.
Buckeye - the bridges at Holden was great. I still have to down load the pics from the camera. WE will be posting them later today.
We also layed and wired the track on the 3rd leg of the Museum O gauge layout. It now takes 4.5 minutes to complete on lap of this loop. Today we will be working on the 'S' gauge layout.
WE also made it to the Browns game yesterday and they even WON!.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a sunny 68 degrees. Going up to 88 today, with sunshine all day.
Today, I have a few chores to do around the house, and this afternoon, we are having company. Niece and her son are stopping in. I plan on spending some time outside and enjoying the warm weather. No time for trains today.
Everyone must be sleeping late today. Looking forward to the SPF.
Dining Car is here and it looks well stocked. Will send to " points west ", when breakfast is done. Later.
Y'all have a great Sunday.

My brother is doing better. The plastic surgery on his right cheek (I told yall before it was the left, its the right) from his mouth to just above his eye. His face is swollen up, but not covered with bandages. The cuts are covered with a vaseline type stuff, and is on a antibiotic. The tube that were down in his stomach to suck up the blood that was collectinng down there, I think from the bleeding either during the surgery or his actual injuries. Since he now is no longer put to sleep, he has the option of waking up, and can slightley talk (he asked for a tissue to wipe the stuff of his face, but couldnt) and since he can breath on his on, he dont need the breathing tube. The pin I told yall about was from his upper thigh to his knee. I went last night, but he was sleeping and didnt agnologize us. He probably wont be in the ICU much longer, then moved to a regular room. I dont know when he is getting realeased, but the driver was, he has a broken are, but the backseat passenger, who had many scratches, bruises and a bad gash on his head is still there. Well thats if for now, I'll do my best to keep yall updated.
Thanks for the good thoughts, I really appreciate them.

Good morning all,
We just got back from a successful raid into Rebel territory. We saw a good race, and a nice parade of yellow flag laps. The IRL race was pretty close and with 10 laps to go AJ IV was leading. He could not hold off Kanaan and Dixon and still did a career best third. Danica crashed out and Manning and Sarah had terrible nights. The IPS support race had almost as many yellow laps as green. Tmcc man, good luck with the hunt for a coach. I would volunteer, but the commute would be a little much :-). I have no idea what will be on the dining car for breakfast. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Buckeye, I really do love the midwest. I've spent just about every summer back there, especially as a kid. My parents were both raised there and my husband was born and raised near Springfield, MO and his parents still live there. I would love to relocate back there but my husband refuses to go until my parents move back there. Plus he said he wanted me to visit during the winter so I could see what real cold was all about. And by the way, I used to live in Riverside before we moved up to the Hi Desert.
I think I have to agree with Don B. and Doug-I absolutely hate the atmosphere here in So Cal but we sure can't complain about the weather (too much at least!). I love the small town feeling-the lack of crime (and tagging) and the friendliness of everyone back there, even if they don't know you.
Just checking in before we turn in here. I got some work done today on refinishing a living room occasional table. It already looks much better than it did. The kids had weathered it up right nice. Later we went to a cookout at a friend's house. Great food. Johnny and I just finished running trains and now it's time to say good night. See you all tomorrow.
John, great Circus pictures. I swear I have seen some of those layouts at a Toys for Tots open house in Bethlehem, PA about two years ago.
Dennis, we want photos of you at Memory Station. Hope your Dad is doing better.
Jim, I forgot that St. Louis was pounded this last winter, too. Now they get hit again.
88, isn't it great to pay for wireless Internet. The Marriott chain doesn't charge you until you check into the flagship, THE MARRIOT. It is free at Fairfield and Court Yard. Go figure. I like Hampton's the best. Been stung by Holiday Inn Express' cancellation policies.
John, the mainline of the NS and CSX runs right past the Ohio State fairgrounds.
Jim, now I know what Future is! Makes perfect sense too.
fife, do a nose squirt with something mixed with Tequila. I hope you live to tell about it.
Misty, my late uncle from Riverside, CA just loved returning to the midwest every summer. We get used to the humidty by remembering the snow we shovel in January. I bet Jimmy A. has a way to make those corn fields. Just remember if the combine is going through the field, some of the stalks are going to be really short.
Tom P. - What did you think of the bridges at Holden?
Doug, Who is Jack Benny?
Roy, I thought you would be going to see the new movie that is your autobiography, THE SIMPSONS.
Mike C, hold on to your wallet.
Chief, you would really be complaining if we kept all that good Ohio money home some year and your beaches were empty. Haven't you heard of re-inacments? Every year Ohians are obligated to invade the south. Of course there have been a few modifications to the script such that instead of Atlanta, we chose Hilton Head, Duck, Nags Head and Myrtle Beach.
Colin, you kids should get together a list of names for a coach and ask somebody yourself.
CSXetc, glad to have you back, safe and sound.
Chuck, I don't get it.
Hope to get some fishing in tomorrow if it isn't too hot. The boat is ready to go.

Kurt, I'll have to take a look at those cows....the fact that they come with their own poo is quite appealing to my son! Of course, he's only 7 yrs old and that sort of stuff amuses him! Thanks for the tip!
mistyk11 wrote:Now he wants some cows to go with it, and I'm sure he'll want some farmers to go with the tractors he brought back....
Mistyk11: Woodland Scenics makes cows too! I have the Holstein's (A2724). They come with poo. My wife thought I needed cows.

I asked the stewardess if they could drop me off so I could check out the Lionel Trains... she had this strange look on her face... Wife told her to ignore me, I have problems... FiL says 'Yeah he has a train brain!'. Didn't get to stop there though!
Brent, I got to visit my first Hobby Lobby while we were in Springfield, Missouri-my son was in heaven! Of course he found 2 train sets he wanted to bring home but we had no room left in my Yukon...I do have to say they had more train/modeling supplies than any other hobby store I have found. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that they have any out here in CA. I know we can order via the internet but it's just not always the same as buying in the stores to me...
Glad to hear Graysons' brother is doing better. Hope it continues.
Had to check that transformer out, I reffered to earlier. That silly thing has sound. Whistle and chug sounds for both Diesel and Steam. On the right side the slide switch at top selects Diesel or Steam, the two pots, one is for volume, the other regulates the rate of chug/diesel rpms. And the slide switch at the bottom center is whistle control. But you guys already knew that. Hooked it up to some speakers and it works, will be great for kids visiting to blow whistle.

Afternoon all,
Mike C., I don't know if there will even be a soccer season here for me this year. We are having a very hard time finding U18 coaches here. I hope we find more people to coach us, because I want my last season to be a good one.
Howdy all from Wilmington. DO ME A FAVOR, ALL YOU YANKEES STAY HOME AND AWAY FROM NC'S BEACHES. 90% of the bumper to bumper traffic on I 40 for 130 miles was YANKEES. You D~^* Ohizoians, if you have such a great state, get your own beaches. Lines of minivans full of kids with luggage on top and 5 bikes on the rear bumper with Ohizoian plates was the main PROBLEM. They think they are in England as they stay in the left hand lane and cause traffic jams. They do not read good as there are lots of traffic signs saying, "Slower Traffic Keep Right". Even saw a MA tag and several Canadian plates. Rudest driver that I shook my finger at was from DC. Chris's younger sister is here. About 25 and real blonde. Has on bikini. A bowl weavel can eat more cotton than it is. Later
Hi all, 18:00hrs here in Peterborough. Nice hot sunny day. .
I to miss John B. Hope he is OK. Bet he is out continuing with his pub survey now the weather is better. Nice not to be the only Limey on the board.
Here's our layout plan (first draft). Its basicly like the TM DVD layout at the moment.
Have a good one
