Hi everyone,

My information boycott at OGR has begun. Someone asked how to remove marker lamps before painting a steamer. I didn't answer that all one needs to do is mask them with white glue before painting. And another one wanted to remove yellow marker lights so he could put in green ones...why? Wouldn't it be easier to paint the yellow ones green with a Sharpie and coat them with Future? Yes, it would...but I'm not posting any of this over there. Bwahahahahahahahah

Not much going on here. The kids and I had a McDonald's picnic on the lawn when I got home. Then I sprayed some crab grass, did some chores and next thing ya know ol Jed's a millionaire. I have a Lionel box car soaking in superclean but it isn't budging the graphics after 2 hours.

Hello All!   Don B- Glad your 1688E showed up & that you're happy with it. Just remember what I told you as far as voltage settings on a ZW for your 1688E. It will take off real fast,so be careful. Brent- Jim-A is next on the 1688 list followed by you, & the Chief. Laz- Sorry about the Dog. Sounds like you had some good times together also. Jim A-  There is a Fellow from Erie,Pa by the name of Fred Sipple who used to own his own Train Shop & retired from that a few years ago. Anyway, He comes to shows around here & sells Lionel Trains from about 1970-1998 new in the box & anywhere from one-third to about half off. I picked up some excellent buys from him. He is the one I bought the 50th Anniversary Hudson from that was made in 1988 & the Price on it was $435.00! & I thought Wow! this is a good buy as when they were new they were around $850.00 & $435.00 seemed like an excellent deal. His address is:  811 E.43rd St in Erie,Pa & his phone # is....1-814-825-8845  Take Care all.

You guys sure made short work of setting up that benchwork. Too bad you don't live closer to the Chief!

Let me ask you guys a question. If you buy a post war item at a hobby/train store for far below what you know it is worth, is it unethical? Is it your responsibility to say, hey, that 2343 set should sell for more than $89.95, I'll pay you 4 times that much? Or do you buy the piece and consider yourself fortunate to have come across it for that price (again in a retail store)? I'm of the mind that if one comes across a deal like that, take advantage of it. It's not my fault if the store owner or the sales person doesn't know or care about it's true worth. Opinons, please - as long as they agree with my own of course. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Jim

Jim,

I feel the same way.  It figures, the minute I shell out $301 for 2343s, cheaper sets seem to appear everywhere.  Oh well, they are worth it.

Grayson, good luck to your brother.  Well, one side is dowm!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Glued and then screwed the soundboard sections [only the three layers with off set seams, not into wood].  Power went off twice.  Storms all around and lightning when I trimmed up the last section.  Put up tools and etc as looked like rain.  NO RAIN. Sad [:(] Has gone around but still zapping close.  Big storm missed us by a couple of miles.  Glad not to get lightning and winds but sure needed the rain.  Going to get pizza at new pizza restaurant [Roseyville now has two].  Usually go for seafood feast while wife is gone [she does not like seafood].  Too dirty and sweaty.  Will eat and then put an additional coat of paint on the soundboard.  Especially the edges tha tI cut.  This will seal it good and will be ready for track. Approve [^]  Then take track up from other side [it is smaller].  Then do the small sections.  That will complete the big room.  Back room should be easier [I hope].

My rules for Celetex Soundstop:

Celetex Soundstop is light weight.  Is dusty but not bad after it is handled some.  Can be cut with utility knife [I have cut it with my lockblade knife].  Saw with fine tooth saw [I used jig saw instead of table saw as saw easy].  Turn sheet upside down from side you want up [due to ragged edges].  Seal with latex paint and it will get harder and no dust.  I used the "printed label" side up.  Will hold deck screws.  Going to use small drywall screws for track.  Do not paint as I did before installing.  Paint makes it "curl" up some.  Unpainted, will flatten [humidity wiil make it curl slightly] and glue down easier [half of my sheets are unpainted and work better].  Put screws into only the sheets of Soundstop [not into the hard wood below].  Paint will make a difference once installed.  I highly recommend this product.  Solid but not too hard.  $9 to $10 a sheet.

Later  [still thunderimg hard but sun is shinnng bright]

Whew! Finally home from over 2 weeks on the road. Just like our disaster trip home from Chicago early last week, my flight from Baltimore to Dallas last night took about 8 hours - 9 if you include the miserable baggage service. Plane pulled from gate at 1:50 and then we sat on the tarmac until about 5:30 or 6 pm.

Laz - sorry to hear about your dog!

Jim A - admit it - you love it over there Mischief [:-,]

Chief - maybe you should consider coming in out of the rain?

Dug out my LCCA goodies from the Chicago convention. Will have to make some pics to post. Also need to prep the pics I took with Doug in Chicago.

Regards, Roy

Passing through again.  Sun came out and no clouds close by.  Ran out and put up saw benches, plywood backing on top, roller stands up, cut three sheets and put up tools in case it rains again.  So humid now with wet grass and etc, I look like I stood in the rain.  Bringing sheets in and gluing down.  Will have one side covered in a few. Approve [^]

Cool, Lisa! Cooked vegetables right IN the garden!

It's been raining here all day. Good for the lawn. It also means instead of playing outside, the kids have to play inside - in the train room.

Dang Chief - You stole my thunder and lightning and RAIN Banged Head [banghead]- Well, it's cloudy and 12 degrees cooler than yesterday. (It's 90 now).  Had a storm approaching from the west - it dropped to the south and what was left heading toward me just disappeared off the radar.  Sure could use some of that wet stuff.  My grass has turned brown again.  Tomato, squash, cucumbers and beans have all died - or rather should I say roasted.

Just saw where a tornado hit Brooklyn - no details as yet - just some video.  Hope no one was hurt.

I really should stop posting there. I can't think of a single thread on OGR that I actually learned anything useful from. It is fun to watch them pontificate about legal and business matters though. Always good for a laugh. And when the purple coolaiders and orange coolaiders clash in a ca-ca-ca-catfight, I ROTFLMAO! Laugh [(-D]

Laz, Sorry to hear about your dog. Nearly lost Boco (5 year old Golden Retriver) a few months back. Very lucky that he pulled through.

Helped lay 4.2 Tons of floor screed today! Had to barrow it up from the front of the house to the back yard where the Gamesroom is. The floor screed crew have offered me a permanent job as a labourer...I graciously declined Wink [;)].

Also layed screed in the conservatory which is the final part of the house we have to finish. Just have to lay tiles when the "management" choose themWhistling [:-^]

Passing through the house.  Mowing as it rained last night and grass needs it.  LAZ, sorry for the loss [been there and going to be again soon with 17 yr old Pek].  Buckeye, you need to take top off of unit, redo the whole operation.  Think she has charred to the element.  I get that occasionally.  If it still has the sleeve on it, you know what to do.  Repack with pink [your invention].  Can check for a bad solder joint on board or a loose wire.  Bet it is charred.  OH, flooded will act the same but holding the 9 down will char the wicking.  Later

Greetings again,

RT,  Sorry about not getting a chance to meet you. the kids kept us going till after dark each day and by then it was shower and bed.And I don't  need to tell you how hot and humid it was as you are there. I took a water ride in the AM at dollywood, got wet, and was still wet when the place closed .Humidity had to be 200%. Rode the steam train all the women complained about the soot. Also saw while traveling around CSX & NS and a plymouth switcher at the toledo waterfront.

Drank sweet tea remembering my grandmother making it. Very good except I think I am going to get pimples from the sugar. No Grits, noway, no how.

LAZ:  Sorry to hear about your loss...Maybe Chief should fly you GIZ out to finish up his soundboard....and the benchwork for the Mayor's Office.

Jaabat:  Buy it, smile and say thank you.  You'll eventually go back, and not be so fortunate.

Nose squirt:  Projecting a liquid thru you nose, that was origionally on it's intended path to your stomach.  Typically while holding back laughter.  How's that?

Jim

Sound to me the store owner may have been motivated by Cash Flow....... I once picked up at MTH PS2 Big Boy (new in the box) for about 50% of MSRP.  Hobby shop was well aware of the value it had been sitting in the back room for a long time, and had a $695 tag on it.  Other customers were ooh and aweing.  Dealer said he just wanted to get rid of older inventory.

Brent - In my ONE trip to York in April, Miller Engineering WAS there.  Actually they made me PAY for a catalog ($3).  But I DID want it.

New problem.  Engine only smokes when you hold down the ALT 9 key.  When you let up, it quits.  Anybody ever seen this before?

Jim, the retailier may have other motives to decrease the price that you don't know about. If it is clearly marked and does not appear tampered with, the price is right.

Jim,

If his price is lower than what it should be, I would take the product. It's not my fault that he doesn't now how to price a certain item.
