Dave:  Sorry to hear about your wife.  Hope she's out soon, I'm praying that she can get over this illness, without the meds.

Well. did my first steel solder job this weekend, ya, I know it's Tuesday...Youngest up most of Sunday night, with me threw off most of Monday.  I have a 8111 switcher with the coupler broken off of the truck.  I soldered the two pieces of the truck frame together with some sheet steel.  It's under the frame so you can't see the repair.  It turned out good for my first time.  Big learning curve on this one.  Everything moves all the time.  Clamps are a must.

Tip on steel soldering:  Don't use MAPP gas.  Metal gets too hot too fast and cooks the acid flux.  You have to sand off the burnt flux, and start again.  A friend recommended an alcohol lamp.

Beautiful day here yesterday.  Sunny and 75.

Roof underlayment is done!  Started working on the ramp.  Should have that done tomorrow and have the door on.  Shed is now being used to store the wood to complete the shed... Whistling [:-^] Realized tonight that the yard needs to be mowed and weedwhacked... guess I should get that done soon...

Found 1/3 bottle of Kentucky Whiskey and two double shot glasses in the shed... someone had a good time.  Just wish when I'm hosting a party I would get an invite!

The Napa Valley Wine Train arrived while we were in Minneapolis. Susan opened it last night and I got a big hug and kiss! She wanted it for the elevated track through the wine cellar and the wine tasting area (men call it a bar).  Looks really nice.  I have some K-Line track that I don't need now... not the O-27 track, this looks like tubular with plastic ties.  If anyone is interested, email me...

Evening all,

At least Fri 13th is almost over(its on mon. this month)time for the sleeper bunk.

Jim F. Save the boxes I know how much space they take up but a layout will only hold so much stuff. As most of us train nuts have way more stuff than we need. the box keeps things in good condition and you know where a certain item is.On the other hand not to long ago I found in the box a Lionel southern rr trainmaster I forget I had. oh I remember buying it,I just forget I had it. But there it was just like new in the box. I have ran every engine i ever bought, its just whatever the mood is at the time. Can't say that about set cars though as some have never been out of the box.I would use them but don't need them, set price was cheaper than just buying the engine.        Nite all,  Sir James

RT, message received thanks again for the invite.

Good evening all,

It was sunny and not quite as humid in SE Indiana today as we went to the State Fair.  The crowd was down due to the heat.  Dbaker48,  good help is hard to find, but I appreciate the service, and I am sure Chuck appreciates his "waitress" as well.  There will be more bran muffins on the dining car from "Points West" tomorrow.  Doug, sorry to hear about the car woes, but you need to take care of the eyes.  I spent the evening perusing my copy of the Lionel and K-Line catalogs that came in the mail.  I hope everyone has a good day (especially the GCHS soccer boys who begin their season on Tuesday).

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

I  went to a Schottensteins discount store today and got 2 pairs of pants 1 work and one casual/dress up two 4x t-shirts and a bag of crew socks for around $26.00 than they gave me a $10 discount on top of that, but what I really wanted was the Buckeye mug that has a Brutus Buckeye figure attached to it.... I thought $11.00 was too much to destroy a mug to get a Brutus that would just fit my MTH caboose on my Buckeye express so I had to pass on it. Also stoped by Flower factory which has lots of items other than flowers in thier toy section they had a nice selection of diecast vehicals I got a 1:64 chevey fleet side van which comes pre weathered, it was made by jada and the series name is for sale looks cool.

Well I hope your wife gets better Dave.

*update*

I went to see my brother today, his face is swollen up but it has gone down considerably since the surgery. He can drink a little but cant really eat, but it is possible for him to leave tomorrow, but, you know how that goes. I'm kind of confused myself on what he acutally broke in his leg but I believe its the femur, like I said a while back.

Well, thanks for the good thoughts. Laz, sorry to here about your dog.

Evening all. My wife's in the hospital. The insurance quit paying for her anti-nausea drug, and she fell into a vicious circle of needing fluids but not being able to keep them down. I guess it's cheaper to put her in the hospital than pay for another month's supply. Or maybe doctors really do learn something when they go to school for as long as they do... Imagine that.

She should be back home tomorrow, once they've pumped enough fluids into her. I'll talk to my boss' boss too, because this hurts my company too. I'm not much use to my company when I miss work because I have to take care of my wife because their insurance won't pay for something she needs.

Finally got caught up reading the pot!  Roy - prayers for your friend and nice picture!

88 - congrats to you and the wife on her degree, did you find a squatter in your shed?  Get the roof on yet?

Fifedog - congrats on your UNBIRTHDAY PRESENT!

Grayson, hope your brother continues to get better!

Dunno about you guys, but I buy toy trains to play with them - I've been keeping the boxes so that I can better store them between layouts etc, but one day I'll probably dump all these boxes to make more room.

Doug - good luck on the car and medical bills.  What a drag.

Had to take my truck up to Linex - somehow I got a cut in my liner?  I think it was from a shovel from John's patio project.  They are going to fix it under warranty though, so that's cool.  No sitter paid for next week so I took off Mon and Tues.  Maybe get some work done on a new layout!

TTFN!

Roy - it felt like it was 103 here in St. Louis!

FYI GUYS - weird train tv show from Japan:

The Galaxy Railways

Synopsis
In the future mankind will venture to the far reaches of the cosmos using technologically advanced trains, perhaps the least likely method of intergalactic travel. The fleet of the Galaxy Railways transports countless galactic citizens from one exotic planet to the next, protected by the SDF, the elite force protecting the Railways Fleet against terrorists, meteor storms, and malicious alien life.

Manabu Yuuki dreamed of joining the SDF like his father and brother before him. His mother, desperate not to lose her whole family to the infinite void of space does what she can to derail hid dreams, but Manabu is too much like his father, too stubborn to go back on his word. He boards the train to Destiny Station, where his own destiny has already begun.

I finally got to download the pics we took of Doug M and I in Chicago a couple of weeks ago.

Doug - thanks again for the great conversation and hospitality!

Pics are under the "L" portion called the "Loop." Those supports and girders are over 100 years old. Notice we did not stand directly beneath it!

We are just around the corner from where Doug works at the university and in front of the restaurant where Al Capone ate when he was in town. He was not there the day we had lunch...

Good morning all....

Roy - Thoughts and prayers for your friends wife, doesn't sound good. Glad to see the weather is improving for you.  I think.

Sir James - Sounds like with all the "sprucing up" you must have a special event planned.

Doug - I REALLY hate to admit this, but there IS talk about maybe next year putting some track and train in the back flower bed.  We have a perfect location, it would be about 50' long dog bone.  Go around a sego palm, then at the other end a waterfall.  But I really dont want to go much further than just "talk" about it. Cool [8D]

Brent - That is really fantastic for Susan, LOTS of HARD work.  Great Congradulations !!

Laz - That bear of yours is really getting a bad reputation, running around all over the country,  exposing his berries.  Too much.  Laugh [(-D]

Keith - Hope you have a great vacation, I don't recall you saying where you going.

Grayson - Glad your brother is doing better!!

Mick C & Chuck - Sure hope you guys are good tippers, the service that you guys are getting is pretty good.  They don't get time off, take vacations. Just service you guys EVERYDAY.  How fortunate you are.

Well, gotta get to work, IN THE TRAIN ROOM, wife insisted I stay at home and finish up what I started yesterday.

Have a great day.

Good Morning to all. Been busy this morning,Had breakfast with my train friend,Hair cut trip to Kroger, and my Aug shower. Also picked up my train set but have not opened it yet.

Kurt,   In eight days the pads did so much damage I had to replace pads and rotors.Nothing like getting all this junk from other countries and thats where our trains are coming from. Really sad there won't be any jobs here unless you can wrap a paper around a hamburger.

Morning all!

Another hot one here today - may get to 103. Was 104 yesterday (gee it only felt like it was 100). Might cool down to 98 by Saturday!

Doug - sorry about the car. Pay for the eyes first!

Chief - it is good to hear that a person with a big seat can get a big seat!

Brent - congrats on Susan's PhD!

Chuck and Mike - send some of those bran muffins this way wouldja?

Got news this morning that one of my very good friend's wife has been diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer and it has spread all over internally. It does not look good. Keep her in your thoughts. We have known them for over 20+ years.

Have a great day all!

Good morning from a sunny and warm Chicago where I spent a delightful evening last night reading Great Days of the Country Railway - See an example of the book at http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Great-Days-of-the-Country-Railway_W0QQitemZ160120276617QQcmdZViewItem -

I enjoyed the White Sox game on Saturday night even though they lost, and we spent the afternoon at the main beach at Crystal Lake yesterday. A pleasant weekend.

Don, can't wait to see the outdoor layout you put together with your new G scale finds. I regularly stop by St. Aubin's Nursery which is just up the road from my home where they sell scads of outdoor rail stuff - including a rather niftly CA&E interurban.

Brent, I have to invite the Bear back home - he's needed on the defensive line. Congratulations to Susan on her doctorate.

The car is acting up just as I'm amassing the money to pay down my 'eye work'.  Rats.

Kurt,
That isn't a guy... it is the University's Provost (some lady), she was making sure that Susan's Hood was laying correctly, she did that to everyone too.

She has a PhD in Oragnization Management with a focus in Leadership.

Oh forgot to mention, when we arrived for dinner on Saturday they had champagne at the table for us to toast. They also gave us a window table with a nice view of the river.
