Happy Birthday DOUG Happy B-Day [bday]

Sap's are getting worse.  Was my favorite show.  Wish it had ended last season.  Seems they are just throwing things together to make a season.  Did not watch it last night as can catch it tonight or tomorrow night. Watched the ending of a John Wayne western instead.

Later.

Chief,

John Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa and this would have been his 100th Birthday this year. They are celebrating with a huge festival at the end of this month and you are invited! Winterset is also home to Bridges Of Madison Country, that "sleazy book" made into a movie. A little know fact is that there are lots of rattle snakes in Madison County so while Mrs. Chief checks out the seven bridges you and I could go rattle snake hunting (please bring a large gun) and then check out my layout as we are only 20 miles north. Sound like a plan?

fife - well looks like rooting for the 20 has kept him off victory lane!  LOL!  Should I start rooting for #7 now?  LOL!

24's pit crew could probably push him around the track and he would win!  Lot of luck he is having the last 4 weeks... goodness... if I blew a ratiator I would be standing on the side of the road!

Happy B-Day [bday] Doug, Have a good one.

Raining today here in Peterborough. Had a day clearing up the workshop. We were ruthless the "that will come in handy" pile was taking over the shop! Of course now we have thrown it out will have a job when we need it Smile [:)].

Had a builder come round today to quote on the gamesroom/garage. Estimates that the build well take 2 weeks to roof level.

Off on site fixing steam leaks tommorow.

Good afternoon, everyone, and Happy B-Day [bday] to Doug! So, which trolley did you get?

Warm and breezy today. Humidity is starting to creep up, giving us a little taste of summer. We had a couple of good rain showers over the weekend but most of the state is still suffering drought conditions. Dead [xx(]

The local police department is using one of our parking lots for motorcycle officer training this week. I watched them for a while at lunch. They do a lot of tight formation riding, weaving through pylons, etc. Mostly Harleys but I did notice a brand new BMW bike too. These are mostly rookie riders, and yes, they do occasionally lay a bike down. In the afternoons they ride around the city streets in tandem. So traffic offenders, beware! A new group of Prattville's Finest is about to go on patrol! Big Smile [:D]

Were there puddles of oil where the Harleys parked? Sure hope they didn't lay down the BMW down, Harley wouldn't be much of a loss :)

No, no oil puddles, although you could tell they were some of the older bikes. The brakes on one  Harley were squealing pretty badly! Shock [:O]

The BMW was ridden by a sergeant, one of the instructors. No rookies allowed on it! Wink [;)] The nearby Montgomery, AL Police Dept. went to an all BMW motorcycle fleet last year. Now Prattville seems to be moving that way to. They'll look good with the new Dodge Challenger police cars.

Want to have fun?  Try explaining over the phone to an individual that has never had a loop of track set up on how to connect and operate a new ZW. Eight Ball [8] Biggest problem was finding out if he had the PH's and base connected, came to fine that a main problem was he had both track leads connected to the commons.  Called back a little later that the engine was blowing the horn randomly, asked him if center rail was on D and outer on common, no idea, suggested try switching wires.  Next question was running two engines on same track.  I asked if he knew how to program an engine, nope, didn't understand the manual.  At that point I suggested he stop in, bring whatever engines he wanted programed and we'll give him training on the ZW, Command Control, programing and whatever.Banged Head [banghead]

Zeke--
If you are coming from CA to Sturgis and going through Iowa you need to rethink your route although there is a new HD store only 30 minutes away that is drop dead gorgeous. Let me know when you'll be coming through and we'll ride together and then run trains!

Jon

PS--would you really ride a Sportster that far? That gives new meaning to Iron Butt riding :)

Evening all,

Another beautiful day in Southern Ohio.  Been away from the pot posting but kept up.

Happy Birthday Doug, Hope you had a great day!

Chief - Did you get the wife's car fixed?  Before changing the O2 sensor, take the car to AutoZone or Advanced and have them read the code with their OBDII reader.  It may limit the parts to replace!

Not much training today.  I did get a Harley Fatboy on the bay for the layout.  Hopefully it will be the right size.  This will be the third one I've gotten but as yet they are too big.

Don - the pics you posted of your room really look great.

Laz- Your working women are an interesting addition.

Take care and may God bless your needs

Happy B-Day [bday]Happy Birthday Doug and many many more!Happy B-Day [bday]  Be sure to tell us which Trolley you actually got!

jefelectric - yeah, it was crazy!  His stomach hurt so we had to go home from Home Depot, then he moaned and groaned around the house for an hour, then when my wife decided to order some pizza, he was fine!  I believe he really didn't feel good, though, because he got pretty pale and pasty for a while and we made him lay down too.  If he was faking, it was better than I ever managed as a kid Wink [;)]

I won a box of track, mixed O and O27, 50 to 65 pieces for $28.  Somebody tried to snipe it, but my max bid was $30 and I beat them out.  Waiting on another auction to close to see if I can combine shipping, got from trainz on ebay.  Need to get a barn for my cows, I think they were mooing this morning.  I wonder if they have Highland Coos in O gauge over the pond - John or Nick?

NO RAIN!  Mississippi will not flood in St. Louis, already crested thanks to broken levies farther up the line.  Missouri went 4 ft above flood level but was contained.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

HI GIZ,

STUGEON FISH, yes I love my working gals, HUBA HUBA!  Maybe a BUDA BING?

Well I was thinking of bidding on a Lionel set of NYC FTs and let them go for $239.  Was going to bid on them at $300.  But went to LHS and saw a pair of NYC FA2s with Command and Odyssey and dual smoke units along with 5 years newer on the FTs well it was a no brainer and got them for $400.  They came out in 2005 and the NYC FTs were in the 2000 catalog.  Wife had off today and picked them up for me, sound great and run smooth.  Ran them in forward and reverse for about 40 minutes great.

  All have a good nite.

All that work to show off the train room, and it kinda fizzled.

I had decided that the highpoint would be having the camera in the caboose of the train on the shelf broadcast a picture to the TV.  I got the camera at York for a good price, I think.  And bought an optional power unit that connect to the camera and runs off track power.  Didn't put that on yet was going to run on 9v battery.  So I get it all set up and it works, does a reasonable job.  Now I needed a ladder in the room to "turn on " the chuff sound, (which is also driven by a 9v battery, and activates when a magnet on the axle passes a sensor).   So the idea was to turn power on for everything about 15 min before they arrived, and then get rid of the ladder (garage).  Everything goes to plan, then  did a brief showing for the guys, and they were impressed.  Women were busy getting the food ready.  So after we all eat, then the women want to "see" it.  Guess what...... Batteries dead !!  No more 9v batteries !!  Oh well, another time.  Banged Head [banghead]Sign - Oops [#oops]Sign - Dots [#dots]Black Eye [B)]Dunce [D)]Grumpy [|(]Censored [censored]      Laugh [(-D] NOT     (And I KNOW none of YOU guys are laughing either !!

Anyway,  Afternoon was spent watching videos I took of Gettysburg, Strausburg, and museums.  Everyone seemed to enjoy them, even the guided narrated tour through Gettysburg.

I did manage to get a good buy as a result of ebay.  A fellow was offering 40' of LGB track, and additional 10' increments was available.  As it turned out he is about 6 miles from me.  So made arrangements to purchase some direct, without shipping, sales tax, and reduced quantity rate.  He saved ebay fees, and posting issues.  Win Win

Now I have to get to work on finishing that up.  It is real interesting though this track is cosmetically perfect, except it has a layer of "soot" on it???  He thinks its a result of extended use with plastic wheels.  Really seems odd.  Comes off very easy, mechanically and electrically it seems perfect.  Weird.

I also got my "Golden Spike" card and catalog, no car though. ... Maybe they havn't shipped yet ??  Dunno

Time to go clean track.

Later

Evening everyone.  Getting ready for bed.  Wife and kids are already there.  Felt kinda ill tonight, hope it is just a temporary thing.  Anyway, not train time, but I hope to get some in this weekend.

Zeke, glad you got it.  Do yourself a favor, get a highlighter or pencil and mark the pieces you have on the front section with the list.  Then, make sure you read the first few pages about disassembly, etc.  Then you can go to the pages specifically about your engines.  It is also a good book to thumb through as they have some track plans, and other information on equipment, etc.  I am sure it will serve you well.

God Bless,

Dennis
