Zeke, one of the things with pumpkins is to remove some of the blossoms so that the pumpkins that grow will be really big. Here's a trick, do it first think in the morning when they are opened up, then flour and bread them and fry them - they have a sort of pumpkiny taste, but very mild. I like a little salt on them - yum!
RIP Jerry Falwell. Didn't always agree with him, but he was an honorable man and stood for what he believed.
John Baker - USA companies don't have the hairy cows (Heeland Coos). My buddy is into geneology and he got my family back so far I'm like a 20th cousin of Robert the Bruce! Pretty funny! Not verified by actual documents though, based on published trees. Ordered a barn for my regular American style cows for the layout. I'll need some chickens, too. Great grandma used to keep chickens in her yard. She also made great homemade sauerkraut! My grandad was a plumber and made a corn crib out of leftover pipe. Bet it is gone for scrap copper now, though!
Don - great stories and jokes!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Doug - great trolley! Mitch - Congrats on the graduation!
Evening all,
Warm and beautiful in Southern Ohio. It may rain tonight, hope so. I watered the garden to encourage the rain.
Don - Thanks for the laughs. Those are great.
Doug - Nice trolley! After running trains on the 600 panels, I was thinking a trolley would look neat running around the town. Got me thinking about converting a handcar to a trolley. You mentioned you were a Notre Dame fan. Did you go there? A close friend, like a son is going there this fall and real excited.
Got another project, a 583-A electro magnetic crane. Now find the time. While waiting to go to work this evening sitting on the back porch with my bride she was talking about adding a patio! We'll see. Three more weeks till a break in classes.
Take care
Jim

Will it rain? These dummies don't know. Well, maybe or maybe not.
Well it is going to storm(tornado warrning just west of columbus) and heading North East may just squeak by me. Just what I need more rain to make my grass grow even more
No luck on finding a part time job everbody wants 40 plus hours did that for 5 years avaraging 86 hours a week 14 hours a day during the week and 16 hours on the weekend and some times 12 hours days on saturday and sunday. One day all that stress made me realize I had no life outside of work and found myself counting the hours till I go home just to count the hours till it was time to go back to work

Not a tornado, just Buckeye on approach to airport.
Morning All,
Thanks for all the kind words and congratulations. Not sure who said it, but yes my son is doomed 'cause he looks just like his Dad and Grandpop. Poor child...
Before I forget, HAPPY BELATED Doug Murphy. Cool trolley.
Things seemed to be back on a more even keel at work. The full moon or the weather system has passed by. Glad there is only one more full moon cycle in the school year. Of course now I have probably doomed myself by mentioning it.
Last night, got home and we went to vote in the primary. Came home and heard a hissing sound from the left rear tire of the Mrs.'s van. Sure enough the tire was going flat, so I had her pull it out of the garage before it went completely flat so I would have room to work. Tried to use my floorjack to jack it up but it was too small, so I tried the jack that came with the car (what a piece of junk). Finally had to call AAA to change a tire in my own driveway. Either I am getting old, or lazy, or both. I guess I need to look for a better floor jack.
Well I better get to work, another exciting day ahead.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is 64 degrees, with a light rain. We had some thundershowers last night. Going up to 65 today ( ? ). Much cooler. Looks like a wet day.
Today, I have to drive into Cambridge, for the weekly grocery shopping. Not much I can do outside today. May meet a good friend for lunch or coffee. Maybe later, I'll run trains. I probably won't paint the steel bridge until June. Have the daughter and her kids coming down on the 26th. The 10 year old grandson likes trains. He hasn't seen the new upper level yet. We'll have fun.
Dining Car is here. Time for breakfast. Has " points west " had breakfast yet ? All aboard.
Y'all have a great Wednesday.
Chuck
Good morning all,
For once the weather has changed as it is cooler and cloudy in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s. My wife went for a walk and visited an uncle in the hospital (it is only 6 blocks away). I practiced some more soccer drills and we watched "Veronica Mars". My wife finally got her new stove in yesterday (very long story). I see where the dining car already arrived at "Points East". I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Good morning from a cool and grey Chicago where I happily received my last birthday gift in yesterday's mail: a neat little book that is part of the Images of Rail collection: Lost Trolleys of Queens and Long Island - see http://arcadiapublishing.com/ -- lots of great photos in just skimming it. I saw some interesting car types too - a powered water sprinkler like a small Birney - to keep the dust down on the right of way... I also spent last evening perusing the latest Classic Trains magazine - a great article on the CTA running freight - and some steam videos from the 50s - see http://www.trains.com/ctr/default.aspx?c=i&id=2&iid=30Jim, yes, I admit it, I went to Notre Dame -- it's quite a place - hope that boy enjoys the experience - I could never afford the place now. I think you would enjoy a trolley on the layout - certainly the classic #60 and latest MTH and Lionel offerings with their bumpers would make a nice animated ride - I prefer to drive mine myself - using the correct number of bells for signalling, etc. Chuck, with the price of gas the way it is, it may someday make sense to order groceries through Peapod - http://www.peapod.com/ if your area has that delivery service rather than driving to Cambridge. Though they'll always throw in a fuel surcharge anyway - just like has gotten the freight roads in trouble.Mitch, had the same experience with a flat on our minivan - I couldn't get any leverage with the provided jack to do it myself and had to call AAA finally. I felt humiliated. I felt a little better after they had to finally use power tools to remove the lugs...

Brent - In case you don't have a security system for your new house, here's an idea for you and anyone else who needs one!
HOW TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM
1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work boots.
2. Place them on your front porch, along with several empty beer cans, a copy of Guns & Ammo magazine and several NRA magazines.
3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazine.
4. Leave a note on your door that reads:
Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke and Slim, I went to the gun shop for more ammunition. Back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls -- they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it but it was hard to tell from all the blood.
P.S. - I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside.

This just in: My twin boys were pushing a grocery carriage around the market today and drove it right into Carl Yastrzemski of all people. I asked my wife if he got upset and she said no.
Doug Murphy is probably the only one here who knows who "Yaz" is.

jaabat - #8, .285 avg., 452 dingers, HOF '89...yea, heard of him... YAZ is to Beantown like Brooks #5 is to Baltimore...enjoy him while you got him...
CHIEF - a toll road to get to the PIGLEY-WIGLEY? Scandelous! Grandma may have to give up that carton of Camels...

Useless fact about the Yaz HOF thing... I did a painting of him as he was in 1967. It hung in the Baseball Hall of Fame from 1989 until 1991. Right between Norman Rockwell and Leroy Nieman.
Even us Yankee fans know Yaz....another guy who shudda had a WS ring...(but, we won't go into the Sox/Yanks thing here...don't wanna start no WARS!!)
The interesting side light is my buddy (originally from Rhode Island) is a big Sox fan, his nickname is Yaz, wears #8 on our ball team. He calls me Pepitone (and for those who REALLY remember, no, I don't wear women's stockings...)just because I have longer hair and just slightly Italian (no, I don't play first base).
Jim, I wonder if you could post a copy of your Yaz portrait. I'd be interested in seeing it.

Don,
It applies to us Brits as well, I suspect what we breathe could have something to do with it.
