Ha - I finally made my wife pick the paint for those window frames after she complained about the primer!  Learning a little bit as I go along.  In my pic, you can't really tell, but the siding is sort of a beige/brown color and the frames really do go with it.  For some reason the pics make it look gray color.

Had a nice chat with Keith (1688torpedo) tonight.  We discussed the upcoming show in Pittsburgh, the forum, and trains in general.  It is always nice to actually talk to fellow members.  I am still playing around with Matlab.  It is very tough to use if your aren't familar with it.

Jim,
I'll be posting pics on my site for some friends and family that want to see the progress... not sure why everyone is interested in demo'd room pics... that is why I didn't take any 'demo in progress' pics.  I do want to get some of the current stage because it is interesting to see where it started and where it is now (all demo'd and rebuild in progress).  Then I'll take a few tomorrow since I hope the rebuild will be complete... then as each area (shower, tub, toilet room, floor, vanities, complete room) gets finished.

Susan changed her mind on paint again today... go figure!  At least we hadn't painted anything yet!  LOL!

Cool coal tipple, RRC - great action!  Never saw one working before.

88 - no big on the pics, you've got a lot on your plate man!

Went to Crackerbarrell for dinner and I am stuffed full of country fried steak, fried okra, mashed potatoes and green beans!  Might have some cookie dough icecream later though.

Oh yeah, I won Oh, Mr Porter! on dvd - it's an R2 (England) dvd, but my Philips player will convert PAL and it's all region, so that's okay.  Got it for 1.99 pounds, but with shipping in American it was about $13.

Here are some pictures of Lionel's Rotary Coal Tipple in action:

Note in the first picture how I depressed the bench work so I could fit the tipple into the corner of a room only 8.5 by 9 feet. The set comes with 30 trestles, 15 for each side to take the track up to full height. That is 300 inches plus the width of the tipple if all were to be put on a single straight away. Above you can also get a glimpse of the base of the swing bridge platform so trestles aren't needed to elevate that trackage as well.

PRR Sharknose diesels approaching the Tipple

Locomotives through the tipple

First hopper in position to tip

Beginning the process

About 70 degrees into the turn

Coal beginning to fall into the bin

Car in final dump position

Car beginning to return to normal position

Car almost back to upright position

Sorry some of the pctures are a bit fuzzy. Still learning how to use the digitial camera. I added two # 70 yard lamps at the corners to illuminate the structure during night sessions. I may try to take some pictures without flash to show the effect.

Good Evening.......

Back home from the Berea Train Show. Had a great time. Met all the guys. Had a great lunch at the Station. We did some railfanning and took some pictures.

Chuck

Chuck, you noticed that his Honor, The Chief didn't show as he promised.  I will pay the tab for the limo that waited at the airport for his arrival.  Can you take care of the extra meal costs?  I guess we will need to return his gift to the train store for a refund.   I really thought he would show, so we could give him the Gold Lionel Hudson as a gift.  Big Smile [:D]  I bet if we had invited Laz, Jim, Don, Doug, Colin, Steve, John, Roy, Lisa, Dennis and many others to be our honored guest at a OTTS meeting they would be a path to our door to get the Gold Lionel Hudson.

Yes, I took care of the extra meal costs and rolled up the red carpet. I suggest we give his gift to someone else. I even ordered Chief's favorite dish for lunch........Grits served in a galvanized bucket. He miss it.

Next year we should invite a Northern person. I had a phone message from Chief, when I got home. He said he missed his chartered plane and was racing north on I-77. Maybe he wound up in an Ohio jail.  The Jailer probably posted his Bail, just to get rid of him.

And with that..........Good Night.

Chuck

Chuck,

It appears that Dennis would like to be our guest of honor next year for the Annual OTTS Meeting.

Rough weekend...

Got home from work on Friday and finished pulling up the tile floor in the bathroom, still have to do the toilet room (no Jim I have not forgotten the pics).  Saturday we had the driveway sealed.  Looks nice now.  Two women in their late 50s did it!  They were a hoot.  Had to run to Lowes to pick up some supplies... got home and redid the plumbing for the vanities and the tub.  If I ever meet a plumber who doesn't know how to install a Roman Tub Faucet they are in trouble!  When I turned the water on, only 1 leak... not bad as there were 46 joints that had to be made.  Now onto changing the tub base... pics tomorrow.

Tomorrow I want to get the tub base finished, get the Wonder Board up around the tub, remove the tile around the shower, install the Wonder Board around the shower, and finish patching the drywall.  Then I have to check the alignment of the light boxes to make sure they will still be centered on the vanities, may have some electrical work to do.  If I can get that done, then I may take Tuesday off to get some tiling done, but not sure.

Also have to get some pics taken of the trains... I got the pics taken if the tender, so can post them tomorrow.

OH - Friday Night I installed the new cable modem... for some reason my download rate is 1/8 what it is supposed to be and my upload rate is exactly what it should be.  So may have to contact Comcast again...

Looks like the OTTS had a good time yesterday...

CSXect - that last time I programmed in C++ it was Borland's cheaper Turbo version and natively used Cin, Cout, etc (as I recall) - had to upgrade to get windows access and it was a lot of work.  With all my other hobbies, I just don't have time to program anymore.

Well, I started off today with a haircut. Then I picked up some 2x4's for the Halloween layout benchwork.  I was going to rip down some 2x10s I had in the basement, but then remembered I stole an idea from 88 and I need to use them first to make a temp platform in the basement stairwell so I can put in a light fixture!  HD had 2x4s on sale anyway.  Then to Michaels with the family and picked up a foam decoration Pumpkin that I'm going to cut for the layout - make a tunnel through it.  No work tomorrow and HVAC guy coming to service the furnace, so will build the table on some old sawhorses I've got and then do some wiring in the basement.

One good thing, found out a plumbing project I had for the basement isn't needed.  I thought they left a P-trap off a drain in the laundry room.  Ran a fishtape down with some paper taped to the end and found the trap and it holds water, so now I think the problem is that there is stale air in the laundry room.  There is no return air vent in there.  I think I might cut an inch off the top of the door into that room, so air would move more, or put a vent in it....

Here are those window frames I painted - turned out okay:

Would have been 100 times easier if I'd used the correct caulk the first time.  Live and learn.

Brutus, I would go with the Wii and the xbox360. There is a rumor that ms is going to release an xbox 360 developer kit so anyone with c++ knowledge can program thier own games for aroun a $100.00 but it may be a rumor.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s!?!?  We had the memorial service for my wife's dad today (the burial of the ashes will be next year sometime), and I thinked it helped the healing process.  There was a large gathering of family and friends.  It was a sad day, but a good day.

We had bran muffins on the dining car from "Points East" this morning, and "Desperate Housewives" is on tonight.  State employees get tomorrow off and I think I will need it.  Maybe I wll go help "my" soccer girls practice for their sectional game.  I have a new slogan for them:  "Save the goalkeeper, save the game!"   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Doug,

Keep an eye on your car.  Eggs and clearcoat is not a good combo.  It is a shame that we need to worry about these destructive, senseless pranks.

Not much going on here today.  I am working on a Matlab program for one of my classes.  Hopefully I can get it done quickly.

 Keith,

I took pictures of the 1666, I just need to upload them to Shutterfly.  I'll send you an email when I get that done.

Don B- that someone has tried that before.

Hot for Oct.86, Had a quiet day so far, yesterday not so good problems with son in law, thinks he's mister big shot, had to bring him down a few notches. No fisty cuffs but lots of words spoken without profanity somehow as 4 Grandsons were here. when he got home my daughter laid into him. I understand he's spending the day with HIS family. nuf said.

Nice train day with the humidity we are staying indoors, but it seems unfair with very few of these days left.           LATER    Sir James

A quick good afternoon from a hot and humid Crystal Lake - spent the morning after church hosing down the front of the house from the latest 'egging' and filling out a police report. I think a local Eddie Haskell is behind it - he'll get a talking-to in school on Tues. I'm sure he won't admit anything. Hope to catch up on forum posts later!

Aaack, my poor Batmobile. I worked so hard on restoring it and thought John would give it a good home...live and learn I guess. Disapprove [V]

Back from a humid visit with the parade of homes in Roseyville.  All are 3,000+ square feet.  Now I might go see if the trains are still here [they could have run away while I was gone].  Later

Good Morning Everyone - Remember its Sunday let's be nice.

Got all my plumbing done.  Did things the right way this time.  I went to 3 different hdwe stores in one trip, instead of making 3 different trips.  It worked, only the one trip.  As it turned,  out none of them had the specific bushings I was looking for.  So cleaned up the existing ones, added a little glue, and put the valve back together.  No Leak.

Worked a bit on the layout, the last corner.  Had multiple issues to resolve.  Lift up bridge generates a 1/2" elevation change in track.  Now this wouldn't be a problem, but two tracks on the bridge.  One side of bridge both tracks coming off curves, and one has a switch.  So getting elevation correct, easy enough.  But on the curve.... the outside rail needs to have a bank, because the weight and centrifigal force genereated creates lots of issues.  And then of course the disconnect/reconnect of the track to accomodate the bridge opening.  Getting all the positions finalized is critical, because of an impending engine yard that is dependant upon these curves.

So, after considerable planning, trials, came up with a solution.  The bridge I'm using is from MTH, I had a sheet metal rectangle cut to reinforce the base for operation.  Simple.... remove the bridge base, and mount the superstructure to the sheet metal.  Eliminates the elevation!  Problem solved !  Curves lay flat, no other force issues,  just have to make sure I electrically isolate the base of the bridge from where the tracks interconnect, and everything will work.  So work will proceed today.

(Wife, doing great, tired of weather in Duluth area.  I think they will be heading to Milwaukee by Tues/Wed, then start home the following Monday.  If anyone needs a ranking on Pot Pies, let me know.  Oh yeah, what's this big deal of laundry anyway?  Just seperate colors/types, throw in washer, put in some soap, turn on machine, come back in an hour.  What in the heck is this cupboard full of stuff for?  Dryer no problem, load up, turn on, come back (usually when I think of it whenever) then shake and hang.  No big deal !

#%~*%$#$@ Software!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Type a reply and it eats it.

I was there Yanks.  My disguise worked again.  Yanks foiled again.  Phoney phone call really tricked them. Laugh [(-D]

Got home, turned in rental car, watered the shrubs that are in poor shape [even though we had rain yesterday], cooked steaks and went to sleep in recliner [reclinerized].  Just woke up.  Off to bed.  Later

James : glad you asked !! In fact mostly what I saw was American Flyer !!  Two huge running layouts & another smaller one with at least 5 trains running continuously !! Cleveland S gauge club, I guess. But there was really a lot of Flyer stuff for sale I noticed. Made me think of the other Jim, (Sturegeon-Phish) !! Laugh [(-D] Seemed like the Lionel & MTH stuff was out of this world in price & I picked up a K-line diecast Corvette, Yellow 67 !! 5 bucks & that was all I got this time.

Thanks, John

I am a diehard S gauger  with a serious O gauge habit, was the C.O.S.G layout there??? Sounds like I will need to check this out when it comes around again.

Not sure what the COSG layout is but they sure have an enthusiastic S club in Cleveland !!  These guys had a really cute S-speeder going around too !! The 2 big modular layouts were about 30 or more feet long !!

Thanks, John

Cosg is Central Ohio S Gaugers based here in Columbus, another great modular layout is the bunch from Springfield.
