Good morning from New England, where I overslept by almost an hour. Lost my favorite parking space to some vulture because of it.

cool and damp here today. Trains ran great last night.

NO, it was not the Chief's Birthday.  His birthday is in June.  It was Columbus Day and for us that really know the Chief, (unfortunately in my case),  Big Smile [:D]  it is really Columbus Francis Eagles. Wink [;)]

I don't have experience with these manufacturers, but it sounds like you are looking at a terrazzo type product, without the grinding of the top surface.

I found the Naturestone online, and it looks interesting.  Ask if you can see some recent and older installations, and speak to the customers.  This looks like a relatively new product, so the price may be inflated.  I'm not sure how this will react to floors that are cracking or heaving.

Since it's a 3 way switch, then wouldn't the other switch have to be part of this circuit?  Hot from load center goes to switch 1 Hot, then the 2 feeders run to switch 2, and switch 2 Hot goes to the light fixture.  Neither switch completes a circuit in itself....  I'll find out more tomorrow.  Thanks guys!

Oh well, I never got to cut the wood for my table, spent the whole time on this mess.

Jim, Sir James mentioned what I had in mind.  The lighted handle switches work by wiring the internal lamp across the switch terminals so that when in the off position the handle lights.  In that case there will always be a measureable voltage present even when the switch is turned off.  If the switches in the circuit you are working with are not illuminated then that is not the problem and I don't know the answer.

You and me both!

I'm going to pick up a multimeter at Radioshack on the way home tomorrow and check the other 3-way circuits to see if they have some low voltage running through - it would make sense if this is the way they illuminate and if the bulb burned out then the circuit would be broken I guess and the lever would go off.  We'll see.  If they are all this way, then it's okay.  Otherwise I will kill the builders power wire and power this circuit from my wiring in the basement.  Oh well!

Evening folks,

Brutus, you got to talk trains for me to help. I did my train wiring and I like doing it, but the 110 stuff I don't like. A wall switch ,light fixture ok but  trouble in the wires I leave to someone else.I have several switches with lites in the handles but these are single on/off. they are in series with the bulb though, if the bulb burns out the lite in the switch is out too.  Sir James

Seriously, I spent 7 hours working one some wiring in the basement and not happy yet actually.

The builder had a 3 way switch for the basement stairs with a lightbulb fixture at the bottom.  I pulled off their old lightbulb box and found they had put in an extra wire to power a 2nd basement lightbulb fixture that is not now used, so I removed that wire.  I rewired the 3 way switches and tested - on + off = ON,  on +on = OFF, etc.

All is well except that when the combination results in OFF there is still a slight amount of electricity registering on my power tester (simple little bulb with 2 wires)???  I don't know how much power is coming through.  I guess I need a multimeter.  The little bulb barely lights up, but I can see it.

I replaced one of the 3-way switches - no change.  Swapped the other one, no change.  So it's not a switch.  I replaced one of the runs to a switch with 12/3 wire and got the same results.  The other run to the other switch goes through some finished wall, so didn't mess with it.  I figured out that they powered this fixture downstairs from a light switch box upstairs that has 2 3-way switches already.

Ultimately, I'd like to fix this, but I guess it was like this for a long time?

Anyway, I wired it to the new light fixture and it works fine!  Do 3-way switches leak a few volts?

Do these switches by any chance have lighted handles?

OK... I'm tired... it took me at least 10 minutes to get that joke!  LOL!  Good one!

John, forgot to responde to your post about nice self portrait... I'm really tired.  I knew what you were talking about really I did, just inviting njal to the festivities... speaking of Laz, where's he been?  Hope he is OK and didn't mess around with the bear too much and gone got aten (as Chief would say).

Well didn't get everything done tonight that I wanted to... by the time I got home from my errands I was whipped, so all I did was cut the hardi-board for the step and spakle the patch work where the medicine cabinets were.  While I was running my errands I stopped by Sears and picked up the trailer for the John Deere, 12.5 cu ft for 170, not bad.  When Susan got home I had just finished putting the trailer together so she got to drive the John Deere and haul the logs I'm cutting for firewood.  She also gave me a ride in the trailer!  LOL!

I'm heading to bed...

Coffee Pot Chief, Town Mayor, Pond Warden and Norfolk Southern Rolesville Mini-Division CEO:

I'm still kicking as I slowly rehab from onery ailments up here in the increasingly colorful N.C. mountains. Coming down to Greensboro tomorrow to vote in the primary for Mayor and City Council. Cannot understand why anyone wants to serve in the role and take the abuse and deal with some often incompetent munincipal staff ----but I am glad someone does. Unlike your "landslide" in the Rolesville campaign there is significant money involved in the GSO campaigns.

Still no appreciable rain on the high branchead plateau that Greensboro occupies and the exceptional drought continues. Have received about 2-1/2" here in Banner Elk recently but nothing to register on the gauge in Greensboro or at the farm in Summerfield.

Anyway thanks for asking about me.

Got my photos back from Walgreens from the Ybor City FL(near Tampa FL)trip and I may post them at photobucket.com in a day or two.

Also tried to get Comcast cable last week and am very near lawsuit time for failure to deliver as promised.  I was told friday the fifth of October in the afternoon, nobody showed up so I called and was told it would take another 15 working days to get cable installed, I nearly went ballistic on the person, anyone who knows me knows I don't lose my temper that easy but Comcast has really made me upset!!!  Called the salesman back today and he didn't know that Comcast did me like that. To me Comcast is a bunch of dirty double dipped dog liars!!!!!!!  Anybody who does dog dipps for flies knows what I mean by a double dipped dog.

Chilly and raw here this afternoon. I spread grass seed and fertilizer while Julia sat at the end of the driveway trying to sell her homemade jewelery. I eventually joined her and read old Model Railroaders while she kept shop. Finally I got too cold and closed down Diamond Julia for the day.

We ran trains before that. The Santa Fe 2343s and a set of Williams 2023s pulling passenger cars.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  The heat is supposed to go away this week and cool down some, and we might get some rain.  It has been a quiet day as I finished the housework and got a haircut.  I have been reading all the posts, but I can't remember enough to comment on it.  I did watch my soap operas as well.  I may go out to the YMCA later and will probably watch Helio on "Dancing with the Stars".  It was just the normal fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

BTW, Laz told me he was going to start a separate thread about York, but I have not seen it yet, unless I missed it.  How about it Laz???

John, the only CTA I know is Chicago Transit Authority. I'd love to go to an open house there. I'll bet it's a TCA open house - aren't they also based in York?

I can't believe I did that, yes I meant TCA.  No they are not in York, they are located in Stasburg, PA along woth the Strasburg RR and the PA Railroad Museum.  About 30 miles from the York Show at the York Expo Center.  We used to call it the York Fair Grounds.  They always have an open house for members only the Wednesday before York.  Usually have the main guys there from most of the manufacturers to give a little talk and let us know what is happening.

For anyone that doesn't know the two guys in njal's first photo are Mike Wolf Pres. of MTH & Jerry Calabrese Pres. of Lionel.  I don't know the little one in the center.
