Managed to more than double out poultry flock. Got 5 hens,4 turkey and a rooster.

Good Morning,

Just got back from a road trip.  Actually took the El Camino, left Monday am, drove up to San Jose, then Napa, onto Reno, down to Las Vegas, then home.  Got home Wednesday evening, total 1347 miles.  Car ran great!  Just purred along the entire time, with A/C on, found out  the Cruise Control still works.  Got lots and lots of compliments and thumbs up while driving, good feeling.

Between Reno and Vegas, took US 95, never gone that way before, 450 miles of pure desolation!  Very interesting!  The road is two lane the entire distance, and the only direct route between the two cities.  (Other route 395, goes from Reno to Barstow, then back north to Vegas, 578 miles.  But many small cities along the way, and more gas stops.)  I checked with a couple of people in Reno before I left there and was advised to make sure get gas in Tonapah in route.  Tonapah is about mid way, and was the only place to get gas.  I was just totally amazed that could travel so long without seeing any traffic and very few buildings.  It was erie.  I don't think I would do it again, could be pushing my luck too much, but will be one of those trips will never forget.  Did see along the way a couple of herds of Mustangs grazing along the way.

Was surprised that didn't see a lot of smoke, did see one fire that was just getting  started in a field, but fortunately fire crews were just arriving so it didn't appear to be a big threat.

Haven't caught up on the forum yet, Great to be back home.

Hope everyone has a great day!  Obvious realization:  THIS IS ONE HUGE COUNTRY !!!!

A very Belated Happy Birthday, Kevin

Don

A trip to Walmart to top off the freezer and get two 30 packs and we are good on supplies for the next week. Got all of .3" of rain,Storm can't even tell already.

Not to hot, 74 heading to 84  but the humidity is 93% with a dew point of 71 so it already sucks out there.

Ran the trains last night for about an hour just to move them around. No Pile -ups.

No real plans for today.

I should do the same Dennis with the Ranger and Colorado! Embarrassed

Evening all!

Another warm day - hoomid - high 80's as usual.

Phish - glad to hear your place of work is back in business. Continued prayers for the ms!

RT - glad you got back on the bike!

Worked today on some projects around the house. Otherwise did not do much. Went with a neighbor after dinner to help him with moving a couple of things to a rental house he is renovating.

Phish check yard sales and fles markets, Bet you can find some in better shape than what someone would want to redo the seats and backs. It's not really that hard once you find the material.

Evening all, Inventory of my pre-war 8102810 - 8202820 series is complete and boy was that a job. now to start packing them away. Got them boxed up, just need to get them stored neatly and tightly.

Not much else going on, taking truck in for a oil change. Think by dealership ( months version) it was suppose to be changed back in April, but it just now got down to where the computer said it had 10% life left in it, so guess I need to take her in lol. Made appointment last week for tomorrow.

Rode my bike today for the first time in a long while. it felt good doing so. Need to do it more often.

Hope all had a good day

Kevin happy belated birthday

Good morning, Thanks guys, I had a great birthday! The age thing is starting to drag me down some. I need to slow down anyhow.

SS payday, Paid the 1,00 gallon LP contract, truck loan, picked up 15 gallons of peroxide for the well's sulfur smell injector pump, and got my hairs cut. Trip to Krogers later.

Phish, I too recall getting replacement backs and seats for those chairs back in the day.

Hello there,

should be sleeping but wide awake.

Phish.....back in the day you could buy replacement seats and backs for those chairs. Changed them for my Pap once. With retro being in lately you may find them somewhere.

Best try to sleep.

Good evening all,

The roles were reversed as we got pounded 9-1 tonight.  Kids played hard, but the other team was bigger, stronger, faster and that is a tough combination to overcome.  Finally starting to get caught up at work after week and a half.  Weather is warm.  Belated birthday wishes for Kevin and prayers for Stur-fish's wife.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Evening from beautiful sunny 81°F Southern Ohio,

Guys, thank you so much for your prayers.  Bride was scheduled for some more tests and Doc is putting her on some heart meds.  I will keep you all posted as things go along.

I did some cleaning on the old kitchen table.  I learned of a way to clean the chrome legs, use aluminum foil and vinegar.  It sounds crazy but I tried it and the surface rust and tarnish disappear with very little effort.  I was skeptical but surprised when it worked.  After rinsing the legs I put a coat of car wax on them.  They don’t look new, but do look a lot better.  I’m going to take a chair to a local upholster to see what he would charge to recover the chairs.  If it is more than I care to spend I’ll try my hand at recovering the chairs myself.

At work, we have our crane rails Ok’d to use and we’ve moved some cylinders, but there is now a planned steam outage in progress so we’re still limited as to what we can do.

Roy - I know what you mean when you speak of a full plate!

Good night and may God bless

Jim

Happy Birthday, Kev!

Prayers for your Mrs. Phish.

Rained pretty good around the state, big time flodding in North Jersey and by the shore.  Threatening now but nothing expected until later tonight.  Tomorrow more rain, but expected to clear Thursday and Friday.....and maybe the weekend.

Busy at work, just checkin' in......

88 - Which town is Leisterland headed to...?

We aren't certain yet. Have to get the house in Pittsburgh addressed and then figure out timelines. We decided last night that selling the house in Pittsburgh is a must, without it being sold there is no way we can build a new home and have it hanging over our heads. Hope to speak with a contractor later today to arrange a time to meet next week while I am up there to visit. We are looking along the I270 cooridor from Urbana to Patomac... if we build in Frederick County we'll be able to get more house for less $$$, in Montgomery County not so much (and we're concerned about their love to tax, tax, tax).

EDIT: Phish - Angel for the Mrs!

Good morning, another day where my eyes opened so that is good news.
Yesterday the SIL Dan and I drove to get my 6 sets of chains that they said were for pick-up. We get there and the guy said yes they are ready but the kid must of put you down as Bob Meyers. I looked at the bag of chains and it had the wrong phone number and chains so I said I don't think these are mine. After 5 minutes of digging around he comes out with the bag of my chains and said I found them,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but they are not sharpened yet!!! WTH it is a 60+ mile round trip to Troy Grove. So he said I can have them is about 2 hours. I said never mind that just call me when they are done. The bar in Troy Grove is not open on Monday! So we came home and about 4 hours later they called and said they are done. So today a third trip to Troy Grove to get my saw chains will be on the to do today. Told the wifey she could come with and on the way home we will stop at Sandi’s in Dayton for lunch.
Phish, Prayers from both of us for your wife! Angel
Roy, does anyone do a traditional annual checkup anymore??? Cough, cough. Embarrassed No wonder INS co. won’t pay for preventive checks.
Banks, my dad would be 94 today. He spent his AF time in Burma.
Best get to it.

Morning all!

Another seasonal high 80's today, sunny! Cool

Phish - prayers for your wife Angel

Have not/will not have time to get to the El Cam til Sept/Oct. Gotta lot on the plate as they say...

Kev - Happy (belated) Birthday! Happy B-Day

I don't pay anything for the medical 'checkup' either - I just think it is idiotic that Medicare does not pay for a traditional annual checkup that would be a fraction of the price as what Medicare is paying for.

Hello there,

VJ day Dad would be96 today were he still around.

Phish...I'll add your Mrs to my prayers.

Got through the church festival with no rain. Turnout seemed good but my ridership was down. Only $400. for the weekend. usually closer to $600.

Yesterday I spent a couple hours helping tear down the festival, a back to school shopping trip with 2 oldest grandkid, first ever visit to a Japanese Hibachi for late lunch. Capped off the day reclinerizing.

Another rainy day here. Not sure what it will bring.

Prayers for those in need

Good Evening from beautiful 70°F Southern Ohio,

Back on the night shifts.  The crane rail has been fixed now we are waiting on the go-ahead to use it.

I had a busy weekend.  After cutting grass Friday came home to find a tree fell on the chicken coop.  Closer investigation showed the metal roof a little bent but no structural damage.  Praise God.  A couple hours with the chain saw and it was cleared up.  Gabriel and I are going through containers of the accessories and placing them on the layout table.  We’re still just at the placing stage.

My bride came home from a checkup and they detected a murmur.  Further tests indicate heart valve(s) issue.  She goes to the heart doc Tuesday.  Prayers for her please.

SIL & BIL moving to a different house.  They “gave” us an old table & chairs set they had in their basement for years and my bride wants it in our kitchenette in our basement.  Much to my displeasure I brought it home.  It is kind of cool, very art deco think mid - 50’s but not in good shape.  After scrubbing it up today and seeing it in daylight I was hoping she would see it is not as nice as she thought and I could take it to the thrift store.  But she is now thinking about me recovering the chairs, like I need another project.  We’ll see.

Kev - Happy Birthday!!!!

Roy - Did the harness for the El Camino work good?

Good night and may God bless

Jim

Good evening all,

Checkups went well.  Eyes are actually slightly better.  Teeth ok.  Weather warm.  Took weed spray back because it did nothing.  Got Roundup which I should have done originally.   Junior high team won 10-2.  Have another match Tuesday.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good evening, My birthday, Yesterday went well, Now 66 and we had a good time with the kids and others. Not that anyone noticed. When you get old I guess that is the way it is.

As for Medicare check ups it all has to do with what you singed up for. I have BCBS IL, same as anyone's plan F, and pay $156 a month and go to one place and get everything and NO bills. This is the best health care I have had since the old days when it was all covered before the early 80s.
Now since someone has cut the guts out of the ACA my wife can not get any payment for preventive care at all and she does not even get the plan discounts becaues preventive is not covered . And it cost me way more every month than two years ago UHC, they are not our friends.
So her last check-up cost more than 2K for something that was covered two years ago at 80% with discounts applied. You get what you ask/vote for!
Don't complain if you don't read the fine print. It ain't about YOU!

ChiefEagles

Back from Medicare Wellness appointment with Dr.  What a joke.

Man that's the truth. Before Medicare I could get an annual physical for around $175-200. You cannot get an old style annual physical with Medicare and go cannot just go to your GP. You have to go separately for labs (blood, urine), physical checks (reflexes), proctologist, ear doc, for what totals around $2000 or so if you did it on regular ins. Stupid...

Good day today. Took care of a lot of lagging financial stuff, all of which I could do from home online. Boat & waverunner trailers registrations, 2 eng licenses renewals, pickup truck ins renewal, AND...tah dah...signed up for SS. Had to get there before Buckeye as he will try and drain it!

Afternoon all.

Been going thru my prewar tinplate 810/2810 - 820/2820 series. Been fixing the little things missing like brake wheel and stand, journals on the trucks, the wrapping them up and packing them away for a while. Until I get the garage converted into my train room. It may no be as far down the road as I was thinking. The only thing is to decide what to do with the car ( 3 years old and only have like 9500 miles on it. ( yeah we use it a lot lol NOT! ) would sell but owe more than it is worth. Guess I'm going to have to get one of those canvas garages for it. The sap from trees here will do it in if I don't. The truck is fine where it is but I don't want the car up to the road just sitting there all the time.

Not much else going on here. Waiting for a tree guy to come and give estimate for dropping one tree and stump grind a stump I should of the last time he was here.
