Phish...I am able to save all of the wood framework from my layout. It was all screwed together and easy to take apart. The L girders will be used again. I may modify the legs so the layout is higher. I will also eliminate some bracing and use gussets to stiffen. It makes it easier to access the layout. All my future wiring will be installed on the front of the layout, too.

In the September issue of CTT, page 66, there is an article about constructing bridge abutments. Actualy the author contructed an abutment and two wing walls for each end of the bridge. He made it more difficult by constructing them as one piece, too.

Good morning,

Still hot, calling for rain tonight and a cool down. Been having issues with my guts, thanks to tons of sinus drainage into my lower tract. Sneezing and wheezing to. Ick!

Marty, I also have two sets of the SF ABBAs but mine are of the 218 O27 vintage.

Banks It works now. Yes Yes at least a year to adjust to retirement. Now after 9 years I can sleep till 8:00am without a problem. 8N, you will adjust.

28 Years ago, today was the F5 Plainfield tornado. 8-28-1990, 3:34pm, 29 dead 500+ injured over 1,000 homes lost. What a mess that was for about a year. Angel

5:30 am and at work.  Hot and humid here in Western PA.  2 trucks in the bay to get done.  1 by December, 1 by March.

Pulled the trigger on the SF F units.  So now I'll have 2 ABBA in SF livery.

Roy...definitely as long as no emergencies come up.  After the F3s probably won't be opening the wallet as much but will still have a good time!

Hello there,

tired, should be sleeping but wide awake.

Son made 31 round bales today with his new, to him, baler. I followed with the skid loader to catch them as they came out, saves him from running to a place they won't roll away. Got 18 loaded on the trailer ready to take to buyer.

8N..........it's taken me almost a year to get used to not working.

Somebody let me know,  is my video working??

Got the National Headquarters News and my York badges in today's mail. Who's gonna be there??

Best try to sleep.

Prayers for those in need

1st day of retirement:

UP about 9am, go to doctor's office to pick up lab orders, go to lab & get blood drawn, home to pick up my wife then go to breakfast. Home from breakfast, start a load of laundry, pick up the mail & leaf through the new CTT and Car Craft mags. that arrived in the mail.  Off to meet some retired co-workers for lunch, after lunch pick up my wife and take care of some bank business and set up October kid's program date at the KATY Museum.  Home from museum, decide we are hungry, nothing appealing in the refrigerator, so pick up chinese take out.  Take 1.5 mile walk with dog in heat index just under 100F.  Leaf through CTT and Car Craft again, then start taking apart eliptical machine so we can move it to another room.

I'm guessing that this will probably be pretty typical.

All for now.

Good Evening from sunny 83°F Southern Ohio,

This is the last week of night shift until December.  We finally got the steam system back, and it is currently building up pressure and blowing down a bunch of condensate from being down.  Hopefully by midnight or 0200 we can start restoring steam to our buildings.

It got up to 98°F earlier.  I was able to work in the train room this weekend.  We’ve got the general idea for the track plan and we’re tweaking for the spacing for the accessories.  Slowly going through the boxes of accessories to determine which accessories will go on the layout and where.  The glass shelves are all up and they look great.  There is about 78’ of glass shelves.  The glass shop did a good job cutting and polishing the ends I needed to have trimmed to fit.

Banks - Good job on the racing!

Spank - I bet you found muscles you forgot you had!  Start slow; think reps not max weight for now.

Buckeye - I was thinking of you taking down your layout as I was unwrapping boxed up stuff from where I took apart the layout the newspaper was December of 2010.  Are you going to salvage the bench work?

8N - Congrats on retirement.  Enjoy yourself!

Good night and may God bless

Jim

Good evening all,

Hot day today.  Stayed inside.  Went to dermatologist.  All is good.  Got longterm maintenance insurance for Encore.  May not need it, but it beats paying $1,000 every time something goes wrong.  Lost 8-2 tonight.  Kids played hard, just not as good as other team.  Got a haircut from wife today as well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Very nice Doug. I grew up by the EJ&E line through Plainfield IL. It is now CN. Finding anything EJ&E is like finding hen's teeth.  Smile, Wink & Grin I have a few Lionel Boxcars and that is about it. Lionel did do a orange engine but it was Legacy that I don't use and way too much $$$ for me. I can't do $1,400 for two engines if I don't have Legacy. Crying

But they are nice and I remember them well passing the house.

Marty, They look pretty sweet but what really caught my eye was the L&N Geep just below those Santa Fe's. Unfortunately none of the importers offer very much in the L&N Line, the fondness for that line comes from my grandfather having been a conductor for them. I have his watch on display here at home.

Currently I have two MTH L&N offerings.

Sure, would love to see it. What's a peck?

A peck of tomatoes, for example, is supposed to weigh 14 pounds, as is a peck of shelled corn.

Hot again today, Had too much yesterday of the sun and heat. Almost got sick from it. Wife and I both got sunburn on the tops of our feet from having sandals on and being in the water some. Just taking it easy today.

Morning.

LHS is tempting me with these.  Adding the Super Bass and Powered B.  Already have the Scale PW Paint scheme.  I'm a sucker for these.  Other than that not much happening except work, work, more work, and oh ya work.  Have a great day!

Hello there,
Started this yesterday and never got a chance to finish.
.got home from the Mason Dixon about 1230AM. Getting up fot 7AM Mass was rough. To top it off today wssmy turn to deposit church collection then late dinner followed by a visit with Mom.
Son has a couple acres of hay that he planned to bale today but the predicted mostly sunny has turned out to be mostly cloudy with an occasional drizzle. It's been a terrible summer and signs of an early fall continue.

My old Honda proved she still has it and I managed to not screw up.   In the 250 class I won my 1st run against a rider on a late model 250 Kawasaki who I suspect didn't expect the old Honda almost twice his age to run so good.  2nd run I lost by half a bike.  3rd run the ultimate class winner got me by a couple of bike lengths and I was out. I  won the 250 Air Cooled class which is mostly bikes prior to 1980. Not bad considering I haven't completed in a dirt drag in +/- 30 years.  After the both classes I had many compliments about the bike and how it runs. If it works below is a video of my final run.

The tomato soup is canned. A peck of tomatos, 2 sticks of butter, 4 large onions. Let me know if you want the complete recipe.

Gotta go
Prayers for those in need

Evening all!

Back from a weekend in Asheville NC. Beautiful place. Enjoyed great meals (lotsa unique restaurants downtown - no chains), Biltmore estate, and the Grove Park Inn for a sunset over the Blue Ridge Mtns with adult beverages in hand.

First SS check shows up in Nov, they are deducting it from the Chief's but he won't notice...

8n - welcome to the 'club'!

8n....Retirement is underated.

I'm still dismantling the Baltimore, Ohio and Wabash RR. Sad Just started on taking apart the benchwork. Of course most of the wiring goes in the trash but I kept some of the longer runs for the future.

8N, Congrats to you on retirement. It will be 10 years on 1-30-19 for me, would like more money but way better than a job! Those that want to keep working need their heads looked at. A part time thing is fine. After 40+ years doing it every day you need the time off.

Just got home from a day on the IL river. Son Russ's boat ran good but his friend's not so much, Thought we were going to have to tow him back to the launch. WTH? Darn it was hot. Even on the river it got unreal once we could not hide from the sun. Too hot for beer. Plenty left in me from yesterday. Going to watch some TV and cool off.

Tranz sent me an email.  Apologized for railure to fix engine.  We will work on getting back to them tomorrow.

Retirement.  Headed that way soon.  Actually cutting back on Mayor stuff.  Not attending all the stuff I use to.  Saying NO now.  December 2019 is it.

Have a good one.

It is official.  I am now one of the ranks of the retired.  The plan is to loaf and putz around for September to establish the new rythm of life, then get started on the 'after retirement to do list'.

The only train related items are plans to get back to working on the museum layouts and one of the guys at work gave me what appears to be a figure 8's worth of Marx track and a transformer.  The transformer has a set of 13v accessory terminals as well as the variable track terminals.

About all for now.

Good evening all,

Came home Friday night, ate supper and went to sleep.  Got up in time to do 5K this AM and watched Premiere League this afternoon.  Went to Mass and will listen to Indy car race at Gateway.  Work was quiet Friday but had to go in and do some end of month stuff or else I would have stayed home.  Did work with junior high kids Friday before supper.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

How it going?

Well it was nice and cool yesterday so I cut and split about 1.5 face cords of wood. Then wifey helped me stack it in the wood shed. That was about half of that pile I had ready to process.

BUT!!!!! someone turned the outdoor oven back on today!!!

Hello there,

spent a few hours today mowing hay. Hope to bale on Sunday. Son brought home a  new to him round baler on Thursday. It's getting hard to sell square bales. Not so long ago they were easy to sell. Horse people wanted them. Now a lot lot of people got rid of horses because they are so expensive to keep.

Tomorrow son is going to Mason Dixon dirt drags in Delta PA. On th MD border south of York.. Today I drug out my old Elsinore. They have a vintage class there son won when there 2 years ago. It hasn't run since then. Added gas and it fired on the 3rd kick. Took it for a rip up the hill and decided I'm going  to come out of retirement and ride it tomorrow.

Best get to sleep.

Prayers for those in need
