Aloha from a grey and cold Chicago where it is supposed to snow later today. No comment on that. The bride enjoyed the weekend in the city - the weather cooperated with warmth and sun. We went to 'high tea' at a fancy hotel - hadn't done that since Hong Kong. We out for all sorts of meals and of course, she did a little shopping. Today we celebrate the middle boy's birthday and next week's our anniversary. Whew!  Although I've prepped the lawn, there's little sign of spring at home... even the grass is still dead.

I made the mistake of taking the wind-up motor out of the Rail Zepp to see why it wasn't working. Not sure I'll be able to get it back in because the spring went boing! Well, I found what was wrong with it :)

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' jefelectric.  Very breezy & 68 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Wifey says she wants to go for a ride today; maybe Lancaster Co; maybe Cracker Barrel.  Anyway, last day of our vacation.  'Tis been a good one.

Morning.  Partly cloudy and rain showers on the way.  Not much today except blood draw.

Finished lawn jockey.  Notice the yellow scarf.

Now to the side entrance to the house.  Now you can ride up and tie up your horse [if it is a Confederate horse].

Have a great week.

Hello all

Well they are taking out the visiting instrument that we have been using the past few weeks. Of course, that means 4 more people running around the facility and one more coming up tomorrow. Plus a 26' box truck out front. They sure have an interesting way of doing things.

Chief - I'm rather surprised the lawn jockey wasn't painted in gray...

I also noticed in the new Lionel catalog for the  MLB boxcars that there is one in the Roseyville Rascal's favorite:) Hint: starts w/ Y

Found a set of illuminated bolt on bumpers for my test track. The locos keep knocking off the plastic ones. So far I've been lucky not to end up w/ a loco on the floor.

Looks like I may be selling the Williams NW2. May take the proceeds from that and put it toward a ten wheeler.

Good evening all,

Today created a vacuum.   Indycar race was a disaster as both teams were collected in a late race wreck.  Tried to do a 13.1 mile run today to prep for mini.  Wind was so bad I could only do 11.7 miles before body quit on me.  Going to bed.

Good evening,

Thought it was time that I post again.  It's been a while.  Spring is about here, grass is greening up, birds are going nuts singing and building.  Some trees and bushes have flower buds, but no leaf buds yet.  It went over 80 degrees today, but it's not to last as the high by midweek will only be in the 50s.

Not much activity on the train front, I usually do more with them in Summer than Winter for some reason.  With York not far away I thought someone might have started a York thread, but haven't found one.

All have a great week.

Wellllll, Great Scale Show, it wasn't.  More venders than shoppers, which to me was kinda alarming.  Not one thing came home, but did get my YORK legs under me. My buddy Tom was there running his Premier Reading SD70Ace and PRR ES44.  Nice.  80 outside, so I'll go do some yardwork.

Morning all.  Sunny and real warm.  Rain coming with Yankee invasion of cold air.  Close to freezing by Tuesday night or Wed. morning. Bang Head

Got the yard jockey painted with first coat.

As guy on shooting forum said, "You painted it pc [politically correct]."  Was originally not so and painted as in "old days".  Then painted over with white.  Cleaning and getting old paint chips off, saw the many colors from previous paintings.  One of Wifey's pojects.

Think I will try new Chinese Buffett.

Mornin' boys.  How was the sunrise, DB?  Tulips are ready to bloom here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Spent yesterday in Havre DeGrace with Wifey, 2 princesses, Grandson and soon-to-be SIL.  Had a nice meal on the Tidewater's patio, enjoying rails & sails.  Grandson apparently didn't get enough trains (saw 7), and wanted to come over and play with "Pop's trains".  He stayed at the throttle for 45 minutes, which ain't bad for a two year old.

jonadel - Wifey watches me get all amped up every March before the launch.  She had never seen the yatchet being launched before, and really thought it was neat.

Hudson - Scale show is at Timonium today.  May have to use that excuse to get in YORK shape. IdeaCool

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

We had a busy Saturday so I never got around to posting.  We had an unofficial baseball practice yesterday morning.  Technically, spring break was not over yet so the entire team was unable to make it, but a few kids showed up.  Afterwards, the wife, youngest, and I took a trip to a new IKEA store that opened up not too far from the base (about 25-minute drive).  We wanted to get some ideas for new furniture after we move to Ohio, and it was a great way to spend an afternoon.  Last night I had a dress rehearsal for a Last Supper reenactment our church does on Palm Sunday.  I played the role of James, the brother of John.  We had Sunday school and church this morning and the reenactment went well.  I’ve been enjoying a nice, lazy afternoon with the exception of slow cooking a barbecue pork shoulder.

Doug – Happy Birthday to your wife!  Have fun shopping.

Ken – I know talented and gifted players are few and far between, and I truly believe Cano is special, but I also believe greed got the best of him.  He was playing for the Yankees with a chance to win the World Series every season.  The Yankees offered him the same amount of money per year the Mariners (who are not even serious contenders for their division) ended up paying him per year, but for more years.  I am well versed in my history, Wink as are the Yankees (think A-Rod), and I think that’s why they didn’t give him such a long contract.  He will not be putting up these same types of numbers seven or eight years from now so it was too risky to offer him more than seven years.  I also think he might have been tired of playing in Jeter’s shadow.  As for Soriano, he didn’t produce for the Cubs like he did for the Yankees so I think they called that one right, but I’m not sure about the move to bring him back either.  I would much rather have Granderson for a year or two.  Thanks for the free advice; I’ll take it any time. Big Smile

BOC – I’m sorry to read about your recent health concerns.  I hope you are recovering well.

SP Ray – Congratulations to the grandson!  That sounds like a fun trip.

Subbob – I like those Williams 4-6-0s as well.  I sometimes see them on eBay or Trainworld for a little lower than that.

I hope you all have a great day.

Sayonara,

Joe

Hello all

Back for another work week on the mountain.

Has been into the 90's in town this past week. Took bus to work on Wed. to pick up the truck. Missed connection due to delays by 5 sec downtown. With a half hour wait for the next one I decided I would just walk the two miles. Did get to go past the train station and check out all the new streetcar work downtown. Pretty cool. Actually beat the next bus to campus. In this case, yes, I can actually get out and walk faster than this thing. BTW I dropped my transfer pass in a trash can while on my little hikeStick out tongue

SPRay - thanks for the steam update. A Big Boy and the 611 back on the rails. Maybe some day they can get them all together w/ the #3985.

Chief - will the wife have the white flag of surrender on the car when she drives thru Gettysburg?Smile, Wink & Grin

Got the parts I ordered from Bob Grossman last week. His catalog is cool. Have yet to check out the 'Definitive Guide to Marx' cd.

Been looking @ 4-6-0's again. Really like the Williams units but the price tag of @ least $200 keeps me from biting. Have seen some better deals on Railking units, but the Williams ones look more like the Nevada Northern #40. Some day.

Good evening all,

All sorts of news.  Watched grandson's team lose 5-2.  For some reason, his head was not in game.   Not sure why.   Chief and I will have some more areas to discuss as Indy 11 tied Carolina Railhawks in NASL opeing night game 1-1.   Had a nice visit after grandson's game with him and his mom, our daughter.  Got spark plugs, filters and oil for mowers.   Of course, neighbor mowed today.  Most of the yard does not need cutting, but some parts could.   Sato starts 15th at Long Beach Sunday, but Sarah's driver starts 4th.

Some sad news today.  Got a call from car pool person.  Her mom passed away Monday in Wisconsin, which is where car pool person had been all week.  It was kind of expected and yet kind of sudden as well.  Still, I could tell she was still a bit shook over it.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Well, I don't know what happened but the car alarm problem I had cured itself.  I went to the store today and when I locked the car it gave me the familiar chirp again and the system is armed.  Wish all our problems were that easy.  BTW, service advisor never did call.  Just as well.

My oldest son came over for lunch today and I cooked a spaghetti dinner for us.  First time we have gotten together like that in a long time.  The rest of his family were all busy so he just came alone.  It was like old times.

He told me that his son has earned an invitation from NASA for a tour at the space center in Houston this summer.  He is part of a 5 person team that was the only team picked from a total of 35 other teams to attend this special event.  He went to the space center in Florida on a special trip before this one.  They will make a presentation to NASA while they are there about a project they have been working on.

Would like to eat out tonight if we can decide on a good place.

later,

Ray

Good morning all,

Cloudy and cool here today.  Too hot yesterday for me.

My 96 Honda Accord starter motor went out yesterday so I took it to the shop for normal service plus new battery and starter.  Only one residual problem.  After I got home I noticed that the anti theft alarm had been disarmed some how.  There is a little toggle switch under the dash which I thought went to it but when I toggle that nothing happens.  The remote control hand held locking device still works but the alarm is not on.  There is a little red LED on the stearing column that used to blink when it was armed but now it just stays on all the time.  I have a call in now for my service advisor.  I would rather fix it myself if I can to save another trip over there.  I'm thinking maybe something got disconnected when they installed the new battery.

I was going to get a loaner yesterday but the rental car place said they would not have any cars available for two hours so I got a ride home from the dealer shuttle.  DIL took me back to pick the car up.  That rental car place wanted to give me a Mercedes and charge me extra for that over what the dealer pays.  I declined on the Mercedes on principle.  They have a contract with Honda to take care of their customers and they did not do it.  I reported it to the dealer.  Besides, I did not want to drive around in an expensive car and run the risk of wrecking it and cause my insurance rates to go up.

I drove the old 87 Buick the rest of the day yesterday without air.  Got all hot and sweaty driving that thing.  It drives like a truck.  Doesn't ride good at all.  It's better than nothing for an emergency car but that's about it.  It needs a lot of stuff but it's not going to get it.  Not worth the price of the car.

Ex Santa Fe steam engine 3751 running today on the San Bernardino Line for Railroad Days out there.  #2 son going out to get pictures of it this morning.  It will lay over one day in San Berdoo and come back to L.A. tomorrow.

N&W 611 scheduled to move to Spencer Shops for overhaul too pretty soon.

UP 4014 big boy scheduled to start back to Cheyenne on April 28th.

Have a good day y'all.

Ray

Good Morning! 61 heading to 70.

Been busy with the Vol. Fire Co. 6 runs yesterday alone. Doing battle with the weeds and the lawn. The weeds are winning! lol Tomorrow is the Train Show at Brick, NJ. A primer for York!

Don: Prayers that the leg heals well.

Chief: Now if you have to use the Skillsaw on Don's leg make sure you use the good "Medicinal Purpose Moonshine" for sterilizing and the anestetia!

Doug M: Happy B-Day to your Wife. Enjoy the Weekend with her and the family.

Dennis: Prayers for the accident victims and their families.

Fife: Yatchet in the Water and a Trip to your Favorite Pub with your wife. It does not get any better.

Buckeye: Prayers for your wife's cousin and your neighbor.

Barry: Prayers for a Speedy Recovery.

Brent: Enbjoyed the story about Christina and the Ice Cream Shop. Doray's shop has homemade Mint Chocalate Chip!

Ken: What is worse. The wood pecker or the dam work? And you thought you were moving to a quiet area! Let me know if you are going to York.

Enjoy the Day!

John

Good evening all,

Sad news about that bus wreck.  Seems like a lot of us have ailments or less than good news.  Going to see grandson play soccer tomorrow.   Will watch Indy's new soccer team on TV tomorrow night.   See where AJ's team was in the top 4 today.   Sarah's team was in top 10.  Could be a good weekend.  Going to work on lawn mowers this weekend.   Work was quiet today.   Watched Grimm tonight.   Never pictured myself as a motorcycle rider, but that new small Harley sounds interesting.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Yatchet is in the water, and sleepin' in her slip.  Got the main sail up and under it's cover, but a bit too breezy to mess with the roller furling jib.  Then Wifey took me to my favorite Pirate pub.  Not a bad way to spend one's day.

V8Vega - That crash was actually leading news here on the east coast.
