It has occured to me that Brent's bank account is under duress which is what happens when wives go shopping in anticipation of the little ones' upcoming fashion needs with the changing of the seasons.  And he thinks there will be money for the layout.  Ha ha.  Add in Christmas and he is going to be enduring some lean times!!!!   :-)

Nope - TheQ isn't one of those fairer types who think she and the kids need 1 outfit for every day of a season. Actually there are weeks when we have to do a extra load of laundry because one of the kids runs out of clothing! Laugh

Funny story - On Friday the Toys-R-Us catalog arrived in the mail, keep in mind this is NOTHING compared to the Sears & Roebuck catalog of the 1970s, but I came down stairs to find TheQ and The Princess sitting on the floor giggling uncontrollably. Come to find out they are marking the catalog with The Princess's 'wish list'! I am then informed that I have to review said list with The Princess once they are done... as I am reviewing the list with The Princess I am told which items are 'her toys' and which ones are 'for Matthew'. I can honestly say I have never seen her so animated. On one page was a Little Tikes inflatable bouncy thing... well let me just say that if that is all she receives she would be happy as a clam! At the end of the 'review' I was asked 'We set up tree now?'. Big Smile I can't wait for CHRISTmas.

Brent,

You need to sneak a Lionel or MTH catalog in there too.Smile, Wink & Grin  Even into the 90s, I remember looking forward to the toy section of the Sears catalog.  I am ready for Christmas, and I am buying more Flyer.

Ventured out to Toby Tyler's Hobby Center in West Mifflin, PA today and bought more Flyer.  I bought a wrapped 293 steamer and a very clean wrapped and boxed 714 log dump car.

Happy Monday!!

It was 30 today on the banks of the Delaware River and windy...coldest day since March 28th.
Judge asked a few questions and at 0940 I was divorced.  She did not respond to the summons and no showed to court (like I REALLY expected her to show...HAH!!).  Hizzoner told me if I wanted alimony to ask NOW as when I left I would get nada......yeah, ok, like she has anything.....so, it is completed, excepting I have to send her a copy of the decree.....which is the least I could do for her.

After it all said and done, I'll eventually get my roadrunner back in my name.  Need to start pricing exhaust systems.  Reliant first......then the monster.

Not much train related.  Trying to hold back from buying the A A set from RMT in CNJ colors.....hey, maybe a divorce present???

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

Dennis, just when I thought things at LAX couldn't get much worse, it did.  I agree with you about the overkill on everything following the shooting.  The media thrives on this stuff and the authorities are so afraid of being sued for something or other that they do to much.  This is the price we pay for having a free society.  These crazies or here to stay I'm afraid.

Feeling a little better today after having indigestion over the week end.  Took DIL and her family out to dinner last night for her birthday then back home for desert.  I just ate light (for me).

Nice cool weather today.  I'll take it.

I read V8's weather recap.  Wow!  I don't know how the CA. boys can handle all that terrible weather, especially when it was a balmy 29 degrees this morning.  All of our annuals are toast now except for two potted mums on the front porch.  Our carved pumpkins have held up, but the wifey thinks they should be gonzo.  I am watching the final week or so of falling leaves.  So I guess it is time to admit that Winter is upon us, with the temperatures on that downward spiral until February or March. Time to get seriour about football, hockey, and basketball I suppose.  The wife is already breaking out the Winter coats for the dogs!!!! Dobermans have hair, not coats like most other breeds, so they are not very weather tolerant without some human help.    Later, gang.   JACK.

Aloha. It was a relaxing weekend. Ate my share of left-over Halloween candy - helping out the other family members of course by removing the temptations. Puttered around the layout last night as the bride took our youngest to the theatre to see Mary Poppins. Cut myself shaving this morning and it was all I could do to avoid bleeding all the way in to work. It is a little thing but annoying. Hope the Chief is feeling better.

Bob, is anyone documenting this big dish move on the web somewhere? It's fascinating.
Brent, those photos bring back good memories.

Saw in the paper today that Amtrak has one of its last east-coast dome cars here in state for a while - I think it is ex-Great Northern. Cute pictures of Christina and Matthew.  Bet they had fun.

Got indigestion this morning from a bad load of taquitos last night.  Uhh!  Hope I can make it to church and to my DIL birthday dinner tonight.

Doug, sounds like you guys had entirely too much fun with 14 Lbs. of candy.  We only had a dozen kids or maybe a few more.  Too much candy left over for me.Whistling

Hello all

Back in the Ol' Pueblo for the weekend and then back to the VLA site on Monday. Big day should be the 12 or 13th, when we lift 75 tons and put it on a truck.

Waiting for that K-line switcher to show up. When it does I think I will have successfully recreated my original HO train set in O-scale.

Continued Corvair carb work this weekend. Spent the last few weekends diddling w/ them. Discovered that the cross shaft is worn. Big surprise after 48 years. Have some brass bearing blocks next to me here that need to go on today.

Don & SPray - just heard about the 4014 work this week. Thinking about moving to Cheyenne!!

Time to find some breakfast and then work on the car.

Doug.......the reason you went through 14 pounds of candy on Halloween is because you ate a piece for each one you gave out.  Don......a "be safe" warning from you prompted an image in my mind of Evil Knievel doind a commercial for safe driving.    :-)     JACK.

Good Morning!

Wow, 14 lbs of candy, that's a lot of candy Doug.  No wonder you guys are so popular.  If I would have known that I would have come down.  Sounds like you really had a great time.  Who had a better time the hosts or the guests, I'll be the hosts.  No substitute for seeing those kids lighting up for the trains, really awesome.

Brent, the pictures of the kids is really cute.  Looks like they really had a great time.

Havn't been doing a lot around here just exercising, and waiting for Wednesday.  Been looking forward to this for what seems like an eternity.  Did go to the swap meet yesterday with Kay, kept her company primarily.  Did wheel myself around the entire place in the chair, just to kill time and exercise.

We havn't figured out what will be on today's agenda yet, will try and get a hold of the Chief later see how he is doing.

I sure will be glad to be mobile again, Kay tries to maintain the pool, cars, and other things, just can't wait to get back into the swing of things.

Hope everyone has a great day!  And be SAFE !!

Mornin' Fellas

Missed the past couple days so here is a bit of catching up.

The Ps had a lot of fun Halloween night. Christina went as Snow White

Matthew went as a cute alligator

Christina got a lot of candy, and we are trying to ration it so she doesn't eat it all in one day.

Not much else going on. Last night I did get a chance to get into the train room and take the pictures for the MNP Track Cleaning Car. Will be doing the review in a few minutes.

Konnichiwa and Ohayo Chuck,

The past two days were a bit busy.  We spend Friday, Friday night, and half of Saturday at Yokosuka Naval Base which is about three hours away by car.  The reason we went there is that it is a larger base and has a larger base exchange (department store).  So it has more of a selection of clothes for the kids.  Unfortunately, none of the local Japanese stores carry items in our sizes, specifically shoes.  The trip is also nice because our hotel room on the base has a nice water view and the boys can watch many ships coming in and out of port.  Today, we have been enjoying our usual Sunday routine.

Banks - I'll pray for your rider and son's FIL.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Sayonara,

Joe

Evenin' All.

Halloween was a success, went thru almost all 14 #'s of candy. Last one to leave was a little guy who came back for a second visit to watch the trains. Since it was pretty much over for the nite I let him come inside the barrier for a much closer viewing. Very well behaved, no touching as they ran by, and lots of questions. Seemed like we had a lot more little ones that almost had to be pulled out crying because they wanted to stay, more second round visitors to sit and watch. Lights out and door closed about 9:30.

Wine and beer was a big hit but the Chili was even bigger. Dinner

Good day at the museum yesterday, no pile-ups as Laz would say. Cleaned tracks then took down the ceiling hung halloween decorations prior to opening, yours truly is not the most graceful person to be entrusted with climbing around on the layout. Oops Crowds were kinda sparse most of the day, probably to many upset tummies from all the sugar the nite before. Laugh Stayed late after 4pm closing time to work on some club business followed by a late supper.

Today was a bit of a veg-out day, to much happenin's the past two days. Zzz A couple of outdoor things from halloween taken care of and went thru the military cars in prep for Veteran's Day.

8n, Don't know why but the little ones, even though the odds are they've never seen a real one in operation, just go absolutely bonkers over the steam loco's.

Don, Good luck with impending cast removal. Thumbs Up

Time to call it a nite.

Later all !

Sunny and maybe 60 here today.

Took Friday as vacation.  Worked on the Polar Express layout in the morning then transported it to the community center at the park to get it set up for today's train show.  Got to the show about 7:30 this morning to set up layout #2, which was three ovals on grass mat.

The show was well attended, and the kids seemed to enjoy watching the operating layouts - Moe & Joe on the lumber car certainly did their share of entertaining.  Hah numerous satellite launchings too.  At the end of the day, we only hat two casualties.  The P.E. Berkshire took a header off of the table and bent a pilot, and my MPC era baby Hudson stopped for as yet unknown reasons.

Had everything torn down and home by 5pm.

I picked up a Soo Line boxcar, but missed out on a #211 Texas Special AA unit.  I saw it early in the show, but the guy running the table was busy.  By the time I got another break they were gone.  Oh well.  Half of the fun is in the hunt.

All for now.

V8, I saw all those folks with no place to go milling around on TV.  Lots of them just walked out of the airport on the roads because there was no auto traffic in or out.  I felt sorry for all those people trapped on planes for over four hours because there were no available gates to unload.  Finally someone got their head out of you know what and unloaded them on the tarmack away from the terminal.  You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure that out.

No train related news today.  Still waiting to see when they are going to move the big boy 4014 at the Pomona fairground.  They have been stock piling panel tracks in preparation for the move.

Busy time at church this week with All Saints Day on Friday, All Souls Day on Saturday and regular Sunday mass tomorrow.  They put off the mass for All Souls Day until next Saturday because there were two many things in a row this week.

Got my new U.P. Railroad Calendar in the mail.  Nice photos but all diesels.  Thought they would put in at least one of their steam engines.

I heard that they have enough donations now to fire up N&W 611 but won't do it until they collect enough to build a new building and shop to house it in.  They will need some donors with deep pockets for that.

What's this about Chief getting all wet?  Naaah!

later,

Ray

Hey Jack, don't feel bad for us Yankee fans...It didn't take 95 years to win our last World Series at home....

Partly Cloudy and warm here - we had 11 cancelled appointments yesterday and today has a few more.. weather may play a factor in this.  Yesterday was stormy and gray and today its beautiful.

Working on days like this sucks.  I thought we would be busy.

t-Minus 2 days and counting!!

Good Mornin' Y'all From Beautiful Taxachusetts,

Banks......you have my continued prayers for the fallen rider and for your son's FIL. Angel

The temps are around 60 and the skies cooperating for the Red Sox' victory parade in downtown Boston as a bazillion people have made their way downtown to celebrate another baseball chamionship.  I feel bad for youse Yankee fans (NOT!!!!).  Smile, Wink & Grin

What a great few days of weather we have had.  The temperatures have been above 50 for a few, accomodating Halloween, yesterday (reached 70!!!), and today.  The rain moved out on Halloween just in time for the Trick or Treaters.

The wifey and I had our traditional horde over for Halloween yet again.  Served up beef stew and scala bread to fortify the gang before they hit the streets in search of candy.  Of course, I bought enough candy for 3 Halloweens and will be stashing the leftover in the freezer.  We had about 4 dozen little ones come to the door, about average for us.  We might have had more except I think some kids or their parents wimped out because of the rainy afternoon we had, fearing the wet stuff would continue into the evening.......but it didn't!!!!  We capped the evening by everyone sitting down to watch the classic (Charles Schultz) Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin special which had its beginnings in 1966.  The tradition of watching it on Halloween has continued uninterupted over the years.  My two little grandchildren were completely decked out in costume and makeup:  Victoria as the wicked witch from the Wizzard of Oz (complete with nose and chin and green skin) and Gabriella as Tinkerbell.

The doggies Maximus and Raven were safely parked in their crates in the kitchen when they were not making "the rounds" greeting the guests and shmoozing.......ya don't want any escapes, and it is during events like this when "accidents" happen and people lose their dogs out the door.  Maximus was dressed up like the devil and Raven was a witch.

We still have quite a few leaves left on the trees, looks like fall cleanup will continue for another couple of weeks here.  Fortunately for me all of my adjacent neighbors have been keeping up as I have been.  So I don't have a problem with others sharing their Fall foliage "debris" with me.Thumbs Up

Later, gang.  Back to watching the victory parade.

Jack

PS:  DonnyB, nice legs!!!!  Laugh  If I were you, I would hang your hearing test results on the refrigerator door to remind the wifey, but not before you are fully ambulatory and can escape her wrath. Stick out tongue
