Happy Veteran's Day!  Ohayo Chuck.

Thanks to all those on the Pot that served.

Yesterday turned out to be a somewhat busy Sunday for us: after Sunday school and church we had to get ready to host dinner at our house.  We had a few other church families and their kids over for dinner.  The main dish was an enormous brisket we slowly cooked in the oven for about seven and a half hours.  It was great and we had a good time.

I started off today with a 16-mile run and then a 2-mile walk with the wife.  I've spent most of the afternoon helping the Princess with her math.  We're having leftovers for dinner.

Laz - Yes, 8-6 is not a bad score; I just hated to see all the errant snaps, especially the one that resulted in a safety.

Nice weekend here.  Saturday and Sunday were both sunny and in the high 60'/low 70's.

Had Thomas the Train day at the museum yesterday.  About a dozen kids showed up.  The publicity for the event was not as good as it has been previously.

Another picture of my layout at last week's train show showed up in the county newspaper that gets published once a week.  It is interesting to note that there were very nice N scale and HO scale layouts at the show, but the pictures published in the paper were of my three loops of O gage track laid out on tables covered with grass mat.

Got a couple of new items form the LHS Saturday.  Was going to take pictures and post them on SPF, but I had to donate several hours at work today.  I'll get them there next week.

About all for now.

Good evening all,

A quiet day. Sunny.  Church was packed for youth mass.  Had nice lunch with friends.  Watched US Women "wax" Brazil in soccer 4-1.  Good day.

Gone.  Back Tuesday night or Wed.

Wow, a couple days of peace and quiet!! Smile, Wink & Grin

Attended the Dalton Train Show at Dalton, Ohio today.  It is a huge show for this part of the country and the prices are amazingly low on many items. I purchased the obligatory shirts for the grandsons.  Chuck had asked me look for a track cleaning car and I found a dandy for only $20.00. Using the Iphone I sent him a photo and let him talk to the dealer.  After he gave me the okay via email, I went back and purchased the track cleaning car.  Time

I'll be in Dayton, Cincinnati and Louisville this week.  Automobile

V8, sorry about your tumble with the dog.  A widower friend of mine got a Lab after his wife died.  He does not walk the dog yet for the reason you describe.  He is about 80 and is afraid the dog might knock him down.  He says the dog has not been trained yet and might take off if he sees something.  His son got him the dog from a shelter.  I think he would have been better off with a small dog.

Don, did you say you are going to San Diego tomorrow?  I thought you were getting the cast off Monday.  Maybe I got the day wrong.

Got a phone call from one of my Thursday night train guys or should I say, I called him.  A mutual friend told me that he has been trying to call me for a couple of weeks but had been calling  my cell phone number which I never turn on except in emergency.  I don't usally give out that number since I don't monitor it.  Anyway the friend is back at work after about two years.  Other friends have been traveling.  We might have a get together before Thanksgiving.

Morning all.  Sunny and not as cold.  Getting ready to go to deer camp.  Seem to have finally shaken this sinus thingy.  Turning colder as the week goes by.  Probably come back and then go check out lake house for a night.

NASCAR fans.  Where was the sanctioned first dirt track race and when?

Train show was great.  Lots of "junk" as usual for the O gauge teams.  Found a couple of modern NS items but could not find the seller.  The massive HO layout was a lot of "hands on" running.  Yes.  Constantly derailing and stopping.  Guys were constantly having to push the engines to keep them running.  Cars derailing and they would take them off of the layout.  Scenery was the only impressive thing with them.  [why I am not in to HO]  The N gauge was different to my surprise.  They were running long trains and no problems.  Scenery was great.  Only O gauge layouts were short kids things that let them press buttons to make accessories work.

Answer to question above.  According to the historical marker at the NC State Fair Grounds.  The old dirt track at the Fair Grounds [not there now] is it.  The date seems funny.  Indicates 1970.  How old is NASCAR?

Have a good one.

Good evening all,

Love the PSA on parking locomotives!  Mowed yard today.  Watched English Premiere League football on NBC today.  Good game as Norwich City came back to beat  West Ham United in a thriller 3-1.  Ok, it is not Man U vs Chelsea, but still it is "real" football on regular TV, and next week I get to watch F-1 on regular TV as well.

Talked to Lucas twice today.  Some possibilities are looking up for him, but too soon to tell.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Went to Pomona Fairground this morning for one last look at U.P. 4014 Big Boy before they move her.  Looks like that will happen next wee at least phase one which will get it from the museum over to the track connection with main line.  U.P. guys were busy today lubricating everything that will move.  Panel track sections are stored and ready to install for the move.

Don, bummer on the doctor appointment.  Better luck Monday!

Chief, sounds like a tough year for the farmers back there.

Aloha. THis was a leaf raking and mulching day. Buckeye reminded me to use the mower on the huge piles after the neighborhood kids go through jumping in them. (I'm the only one in the neighborhood with any trees). Good news on your sis, Ray. Looking forward to the Bears game, Laz - the Lions are tough this year.  Buckeye, I'd agree with you on the Patriot. It's a weird set-up. Going over to church now to serve as video director for tonight's service and tomorrow's. I think I got a few extra cameras this weekend. Good luck at the train show, Chief!

Hi GUYZ,

Cool here today at 36 going up to 54 for pheasant hunting.  I had 3 pheasants walk right in front of the truck yesterday when I was going out with the bow.  Had to stop otherwise I would have had pheasant under the hoodDinnerHuh?.  Today gonna take my trusty dog MINNIE today for birds.  Yesterday saw one deer at 445 it was 50 yrds away but couldn't make it out.  Started to get dark and waited til 515 to get down out of tree stand. Never knew what it was.  I have another week with the bow.

Last nite ran trains for an hour NO PILE UPs.  Ran all MTH, Reading T1, Reading Blue Mt. T1, and SD 50 Reading & Northern pwer and dummy.  Nice time and did some scheming.

RT, WOW you live in a tough neighborhood.  Must be big guys to take those wheels?

JOEY D,  Not to bad of a score hopefully you will get the team on track.  Get at those leaves, mine are starting to drop from the oak.

DON, off with the bracelet.  Now pace yourself with the rehab.

CHIEF, hope you score at the show.

CHUCK, are you firing the snow canon this week?

DOUG M, GO BEARS!!!!!!  They beat the DAAAAABLE CHECKS on Monday!!!!

Konnichiwa,

Ohayo Chuck!

Today was the perfect fall day for a flag football game: partly cloudy and chilly; about 50 degrees at kickoff.  Unfortunately, that weather didn't translate into a solid game by our team.  We lost 8 - 6 and hurt ourselves with some bad snaps - one of which resulted in a safety.  My son played well, especially in the Linebacker position as he was able to break up about six passes and had about four tackles.  Our daughter played her first volleyball game today and she did good for her first time.  She actually scored an ace to end the one set.  I have plenty of leaves to rake but don't feel like doing it right now.

Banks - Congratulations to you and your wife!  It's good to hear the fallen rider is in a better situation.  I'm sorry for the loss of your cousin.

Laz - Fortunately none of the players blew away this morning.  I hope you have a better hunting outing today.

Mike C. - That makes sense; I've never watched Glee but am familiar with its premise.

Sayonara,

Joe

Off to bed.

Banks Bang Head corn here is way down.  Paying $7 for 60 lb. bag of clean for feeders.  Sorry.  Tobacco down east was washed out along with cotton.  Then it dried out.  Started digging peanuts and a big rain came for several days.  Those on top of the ground molded and still there [nice deer food for us hunters].  Rough farm year.  Hope better next year.  Now deer and a beer can be taken care of. Whistling

Ray, good news on sister.

Shake and Bake boiling.  Appointment postponed until 2 PM PT Monday.

Good evening all,

Busy day at work.  Almost all caught up on case reports.  Did not have to drive today either.  Wife and I had a nice meal at Chili's tonight,  Going to watch Grimm.  Have to admit my introduction to younger musical talent comes almost always from Glee.

TGIF Thumbs Up

I'm home from meetings in Indianapolis and Cincinnati.  My rental was a Jeep Patriot.  I do not recommend.  There are much better small SUVs on the market.  The Patriot is going to have transmission problems because of how they set up the manual shift system.

Looking forward to mulching leaves this weekend after putting the boat in the garage for the winter.

Joe, glad to hear that there are at least some "career opportunities" at McDonalds.  I was thinking mainly of just the average hamburger flipper.

Talked to my sis in Florida today.  She is in need of major dental work and I have expressed my willingness to help her with it but she and her daughter can't seem to get organized on this.  My sister is living in assisted living and does not drive.  Depends on daughter to take her to dentist and other places.  Anyway all I can do is offer help.  The rest is not up to me.

V8, I think you are right about the trade jobs.  Anyone used to be able to find some kind of job that would pay a living wage with only a High School Diploma but not anymore.  People without even High School are probably really bad off now.  I think they require some college even for railroad jobs now.  When I was there, several of the engineers had degrees.

Just had some wonderful news this afternoon.  I finally got a call from my sister in Virginia who had the major surgery and was near death almost for two months.  She was in and out of hospitals and nursing facilities all that time.  She is finally back home and sounds strong on the phone.  She is able to eat on her own now and has gained a lot of her weight back.  Praise the Lord!

Hello all,

TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!

Windy in the low 40’s here.

Friday Nov.8th in ‘74 Mrs. & I went on our 1st date. On Sat the 8th in ’75 she became Mrs. Sometimes it seems like it was just a couple years ago.

The report on the fallen rider is better than expected. He is now in a rehab hospital near his home. Time will tell how much function he regains.

Son’s FIL is holding his own. Two more SUPER Doses and then re-evaluate.

My cousin who beat throat cancer 7 years ago succumbed to complications of pneumonia this past Monday. She was 60.

Corn crop is not as good as hoped. Extreme wet followed by extreme dry and now a bear and a herd of deer did a number on it. Last year corn sold for $7.00 per bushel. This year it’s a tad over $4.00. Go figure. Hopefully there’s enough cash for the seed & fertilizer in the spring.

Chief....watch that cold.

Jim…….let me know what I missed at the Greenberg Show. Last time I went I was disappointed.

Fife.........Good hunting at the show

Mrs is off on Monday so I’m gonna make it a three day weekend.

 Best get busy

Prayers for those in need

CHIEF, sorry that you didn't get the deer.  Hope your cold is getting better.  WILL ALLEN is a great guy.  Met him at the first Legacy meeting in YORK.  Nice fellow to talk to.

FIFE, that TCA meet is suppose to be pretty good.  It is in a church hall there and the guy has alot of stuff, so I am told.  I was never there and I have my MOMs 90th Birthday that weekend so I probably wont get there.  Have fun if you go.  Maybe JOHN F will be there he lives really close to Millersville.  I'm about an hour and fifteen minutes northwest of there.

Morning.  Sunny and chilly.  Did not fly.  Had that bad coughing spell and was up till 1:30.  So told buddy I would go some other time.  Wifey off so I will probably go do something [shop Confused] with her.  Probably a lunch and early afternoon movie.

No hunting this weekend.  Big train show tomorrow in Raleigh.  All gauges so may take boys.  Will Allen, big collector and layout guy was at transit meeting last night.  Wants me to go.  Better than the TCA "junk" shows we have been having.

May go Sunday night and hunt Monday and Tuesday.  Cold rain coming Wed. and Thurs.  LAZ, think got one down in woods but not found.  Shot late Friday evening at about dark.  Waited a few and climbed out of stand.  Bottom fell out and I got soaked while trying to find him with "blood light".  Rain was ruining that.  Got back to truck and called Friend Fred.  Said he would go Sat. and look for him.  I was sick and had to drive home wet.  Why I was so sick all weekend and this week.  Fred did not go back as he said.  He went Monday and did not look for him [too long anyway].  Shame.  It was a cull.  Long horns and two tiny points on each side.  Hate the meat was wasted.  Seeing lots of does.  Rut has started.

Have a good one.

PS: almost forgot.  Today Shake and Bake may get his house arrest "bracelet" off.  Goes to Dr.  If not, may hear of guy going "crazy" in CA.

Hi GUYZ,

36 here and a bit breezy.  Been out bow hunting the past few afternoons.  I been up in my Summit climber tree stand and enjoying these fall days.  I have only seen doe so far but the rut is just about to start here so now the fun begins.  Saw a bunch of nice bucks whilst out spotting after hunting for pheasants.  MINNIE dog is doing good with flushing them just a bit too far for us.  She flushed 5 on Saturday but too far for shooting and they retreated to the up corn.  Maybe tomorrow?  Going back out this afternoon to sit in stand.

DOUG THE GRUMP, nice office for the CHIEF.

CHIEF, any luck with the deer?

FIFE sounds like fun in New Freedom.  Enjoy!

JOEY D, Batten down those hatches with 235 MPH winds OUCH!!!!  Put some rocks in your pockets.  Bet those flag footballers might be whirling around the feild.

CHUCK & BUCKEYE, TGIF!!!!!

Konbanwa,

Friday was a nice day here.  I had an brief 3-mile run this morning and then an easy day at the office.  I left work early to come home to roast a chicken and vegetables and fry some potatoes for dinner.  It was delicious.  I'm using the leftover chicken bones to make stock now.  The wife and I will enjoy some wine to relax tonight.

Doug M. - Good luck on the channel hunt.  I hope you are able to pull in a few.

dougdagrump and Chief - I believe this storm will miss us; however, the Philippines was hit pretty hard.  That's a shame since they had a bad earthquake not too long ago.

SP Ray - I beg to differ about McDonald's being a viable career option.  I know many full-time managers who make a nice living out of it.  They all started out as regular minimum wage employees and worked their way up the chain.  Even the previous CEO started off as a "fry cook" and worked his way up.  It all depends on what you put into your efforts.

Mike C. - I think I have a wide arrange of musical interests as well.  I'm a big fan of everything from the Dorsey Brothers to Ray Charles, from Elvis to The Beatles, from Earth, Wind, and Fire to CCR, from U2 to Nirvana, from Cold Play to The Avett Brothers, and many more in between.  I don't think one should limit themselves as different artists can have different talents; however, if I didn't have a 12-year-old daughter I'm certain I would not know of Selena.  Wink

Joe
