Good night all.  Made it until 7 PM.  Came home and ate dinner.  Now have off and on coughing spells.  Trying to get off the codeine.  Been 36 hours but going to have to take a little or not sleep.  Not coughing up the bad stuff.  Seems more of an allergic thingy.

Turned windy and real chilly.  If not too bad, suppose to fly with a buddy tomorrow AM.  We'll see.

Good luck Joe.  Hope the storm misses you.

Sleep tight.

Good evening all,

Joe, I do have quite an eclectic range of favorites in music.  From Allison Krauss and Avril to Led Zeppelin and Rush and on to Neil Young and Beyoncé and Toby Keith and Carrie Underwood, I enjoy artists and songs of almost types of music.  This week there were 3 CDs out from the younger performers.  Selena is supposed to be in Indy in a couple of weeks.  Debating on whether to see the show or not.

Work was busy today.  Got a lot done.  Watched Glee tonight.

Sunny and cool today.

Good news!  I discovered today that I've got Thanksgiving dinner covered - the local Burger King has put on their sign that they will be open on Thanksgiving.  6 Whopper combos and a can of cranberry jelly should do the trick Whistling

The LHS called today.  My MKT service truck and Lionel Art boxcar came in today.

My wife is developing next year's exhibit for the Depot Museum.  It is going to be on a theme of trains as viewed through children's eyes.  She is looking for pictures of garden layouts.

I know some of you guys (Yankee for y'all) have garden layouts.  If you are interested in contributing some pictures for this display, please send me a personal message.

All for now.

Evenin' All.

Been busy packing away the halloween toys til next year, the buidings are done now it's working on all the other "bits-n-pieces" that seem to take forever. The real pain will be breaking down the table so it can be stored up against the garage backwall.

Got out the Christmas trains last Sunday, on the old Thomas layout in the livingroom, gotta keep the "BetterHalf" happy. She will soon start asking to have the tree up for Thanksgiving. Whistling

Got everything packed and ready for tomorrow, hopefully the TMCC/DCS gremlins won't make an appearance. Bang Head

Buckeye, Have you ever found a truly viable replacement traction tire for the K-Line Mikados ? Currently I'm trying Lionel Lionmaster Challenger's and they just are quite the right fit.

Anybody have the Hogwarts 4-6-0 ? The e-unit in mine is kinda goofy. If you lock it in forward, turnout issues with the short p/u roller spacing, it still cycles F-N-F. Confused

Joe, Looks like one heck of a typhoon out in the Pacific, looks like it will miss you guys so far. Thumbs Up

V8, that's surprising that one in 4 here are poor.  Now I know why everybody has their hand out in California.  We have lost most of our large industry and places that employ a lot of people.  You can't make a career out of working for McDonalds.

Spanky, nice photo of your clan.

Hot weather is returning for one day here then back to cool tomorrow.  Long range forcast talking about possible rain next week.

Drag races going on at the Pomona Fairground today and for the weekend.  My son is over there now.  Also the Rail Giants Museum there is having what could be their last open house prior to moving the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 out of the fairgrond and started on it's way back to Cheyenne Wyoming for restoration.  I would go but don't want to fight the drag race traffic.  Nobody knows the exact date for the move but it could be anytime after the drag races are over.  They have some of the temporary track already in place for the move.

Aloha. Sunny and cold, but a nice fall day. I'm putting in an outdoor digital antenna today to see what channels I might get even though I'm so far out from the city. I'll hook up one TV and experiment. It should be interesting. Glad you're feeling better, Chief. Now I want a hot dog...

Konbanwa,

We had more rain today and it was a bit cooler.  The workday was pretty boring and I left the office a few minutes early.  I'm thinking about buying one of the new Lionel Remote Control Thomas sets for the youngest boy.  I think they are fairly priced and I'm sure he'd enjoy using the remote control.  I don't have much more to report at this point.

DJ Spanky - That was an interesting article.  Thanks for sharing it.

Mike C. - That is quite the selection of music you picked out.  One would think you have some teenage daughters running around somewhere.

Slow moving this morning.  Sunny and warmer.  Got to get rid of this sinus stuff. Ick!

$.99 hot dogs day at Rville grill.

Not much on agenda until evening.  Dinner with Oldest and her hubby and then view wedding photos.  Did type a long email on the procedure of the next meeting's public hearings.  Sent to Board and staff members.

Tomorrow is different.  Full schedule [sick or not].

Hope all are OK.

Aloha. What a miserable rainy morning. I feel very squishy because it is raining sideways. Ah well. I'd like to visit the Grand Canyon someday.  HudsonJohn, nice front page photo - in the sunday photo fun thread. I discovered our kittens roamed into the basement the other day and inadvertently tore apart a few tunnels on the layout - probably trying to fit through them, so that's a project for this evening or the weekend.

Konbanwa (Ohayo Chuck),

It was a somewhat warm fall day today and it was quite sunny.  The workday flew by and then we had flag football practice this evening.  I was a little perturbed that most of the kids did not take the time to review the playbook yet; actually, I'm more annoyed at their parents.  We have our first game this Saturday and we sure could benefit from one more practice, but tonight was the last one before the game.  We had fish and roasted vegetables for dinner.

Chief - Get well soon.

Jon - Great job on the GC hike.

Doug M. - I thought that Google image was cool.

Mike C. - I'm glad your team won.

Local elections: All Mayors that were up for reelection were reelected except the vocal antigun one.  She lost big time.

Still not doing good.

Jon sounds like a great trip.

About 60 and rain most of today.  Supposed to have a storm blow through tonight, then the bottom falls out of the temperature tomorrow.

I'm taking the opportunity to service the locomotives and rolling stock I ran at the train show last weekend as I put them away. Mostly oiling and dusting, though, I have not gotten to the Berkshire that took a short flight off of the table or the Hudson that stopped running for no apparent reason.

All for now.

Good evening all,

Ok, so we played 11 v 9,ended regulation 1-1 and OT the same way, and had to go to a shootout, but we won tonight.  Weather permitting, we play again tomorrow night.  Made up for an awful day at work.

Good afternoon all,

Chief, sorry to hear that you are suffering from your yearly cold/flu or whatever it is.  Take care of yourself.  That codine sounds like good stuff if you need sleep.

I tried walking this morning but only made it for about half the distance I usually walk.  The old frame was complaining with too many ailments today.

Ran some trains this afternoon.  Nice and comfortable in the garage this time of year.  I need more yard space but the only place would be a sub level under the layout.  Something to think about.

Got mail from AARP today trying to sell us supplemental health insurance.  Only problem is they want double what I am paying now for the same coverage. I got mine originally through the railroad union.  Can't believe how much better it is than what ordinary folks have to pay.  This has nothing to do with the new affordable healthcare law.  It's just a supplement to medicare to cover what they don't.

Trying to think of something easy for dinner tonight.  I'm leaning toward Boston Market roasted chicken with three sides.  Probably spend less than if I go to the super market for something to cook.

Hope Don is having some luck finding another doctor to take his cast off.

Nice weather this week so far.

Jon, congratulations to your Mrs. for completing the hike to and from the bottom of the Grand Canyon.  Wow!  That's some feat.  The only thing I ever did even remotely close to that was a hike from the floor of Yosemite Valley to the top of Glacier Point.  It was about 4 miles I think each way.  Anyway, well done!

later,

Ray

Spank any box store paint will work for what you need to do. However a sanding sealer or clear coat would be a good way to start.

Just returned late last night from an amazing eight days in AZ with the primary objective being the Grand Canyon.  This was a trip that had been planned for over a year for many reasons.  Sharyl, her sister and seven friends hiked the Kaibab trail to the bottom of the canyon and spent two nights at the Phantom Ranch, 7 1/2 miles of VERY steep trails -- all down and primitive.  Two days later they hiked out 10 1/2 miles on the Bright Angel trail, extremely exhausting but incredibly rewarding.

It had been 39 years since we had been to the GC, at that time we were there for only one day basically as a drive by.  This trip, for both of us, was simply awesome.  I was able to take many short hikes on the rim and one unbelievable helicopter ride through the canyon, what a rush.  I hope after my January surgery that I will be able to hike once again with Sharyl and the group in another year.  They left the Phantom Ranch at 6:15 AM and arrived at the Bright Angel trail head at 6:00 PM, wiped out but with HUGE smiles.  There was a very nice evening dinner w/wine after long hot showers Thumbs Up

For those of you who have not been to the Grand Canyon, put it on your short list of places to visit.  It is considered one the seven wonders of the world and I don't doubt that for one second.  There's something to do for every age level, even a train that runs from Williams to the Grand Canyon village and then back to Williams after a two-three hour layover.

We were also able to spend four nights in the Phoenix area with her sister and hubby, I can see why so many senior citizens winter there.  The weather is incredible but too far away from our grand children for us.

Jon

Morning all.  Been reclinerizing since 7 AM.  Wiley had to come and jump on me while I was sleeping in the bed.  Got up for a cup of coffee and got down two before sleep took over again.  Trying to recover from Tussinux [loaded with codeine].

Election day for three Town Council persons.  No opposition.

Brent, forgot to tell you last night how great the kids looked in the photos.  Tell Q not to worry.  She will be around a long time.  She has to so she will be able to nurse you after your accidents. Smile, Wink & Grin

Brent's protégé, Shake and Bake will soon be out of his "chains". Thumbs Up

Shave and shower.  Maybe sober up.  If not, will walk a block to the school to vote.  [nice to have red underline for spell check.  bad this morning]

Aloha. Looks like it will be pleasant today with rain later. Busy evening as soon as I got home from work, I had to drive the youngest over to my inlaws who will host him today because he is out of school for a teachers institute day - I always thought they were strategically placed on a Friday or Monday Wink. Then fixed their electronics and finally made it back home to watch the Bears unexpected win. Whew!

Have to do it all again tonight to pick him up after work.

Brent, we had a similar tradition with our kids of giving them a car for 'their' train. My daughters train is 22 cars long and one son's is 19...

Isn't Raymond Loewry's birthday link on Google cool!

Mornin' Fellas

Probe - Last year I started a tradition with Christina where she gets to go to the train store with me the Saturday after we put up the trains and trees for Christmas, she gets to choose one car to add to her train. I will do the same with Matthew starting next year. When they get to age 8 I will let them pick out an engine to pull their train. TheQ thinks this is a really neat way to get them interested in my hobby and to hopefully keep them interested. It amazes me how careful Christina is with the trains, you just have to watch her and when she starts getting overly animated you have to shut it down... or no telling how violent an end will come to an object. Smile

Only three more days of work this week. Taking Friday off for TheQ's day, we are not allowed to discuss how young she is getting. Surprise For some reason this year is really hitting her hard, not sure but I think it is because she is now 2/3 her mother's age when she passed - and I think that really has her scared. Having a hard time figuring this one out.

Anyhoo, Friday we are going to go look for a replacement for the 525. I think she has her heart set on either a 528 or 535, just has to determine what color exterior & interior and options she wants, then settle on how much she wants to pay for a car.

Konbanwa,

This will be a quick note as yesterday and today have been busy days.  Last night was flag football practice and a deacons' meeting.  Tonight was volleyball practice and homework assistance.  I don't think I'll be able to slow down until about two weeks before Christmas.

Bob - I'm glad you're in your own place.  I hope you are well.

Chief - I hope you feel better.

Jim - I can't wait to hear about your Flyer purchases.

Then had a marathon Town Board meeting on annexing and approving a new subdivision.  Across the road from a big family which owns lots of farm land.  "We don't want it because we live out here and don't want to hear kids and lawnmowers on Sunday mornings."  Bet the biggest complaints will be the new homeowners complaining about those big diesel John Deeres and combines.

I can't wait until the new subdivision residents arrive at the Roseyville Town Board Meeting and demand a noise wall paid for by the town.  Of course it will need to be aesthetically pleasing.  Therefore they will demand that a renowned artist from France be hired to consult with the gold leaf installer to make it one of a kind. LaughLaugh

Good night all.  Visited Dr. this afternoon after two Town meetings.  Still running fever after taking Tylenol.  Sinus infection and not in lungs.  Taking codeine to keep cough down. You want to tell them, if you don't want neighbors, you'd better buy up all the property around you.  That family could afford to have bought the farm that the developers bought and never strained.  The Board voted to delay the final outcome until next meeting.  It was then 10:30.  BTW: it will pass.

Ray, you have become quite a comedian. Wink

Partly sunny, maybe 60 today.  Work was still there when I got back today.  No vacation nomes showed up last Friday to magically clear my desk Grumpy.

On a higher note, I picked up the local paper from the front porch this morning, unrolled it, and found myself looking back at me from the front page above the fold!  I did talk to a photographer, but did not expect a picture on the front page.  I put the picture on Sunday's SPF.

All for now.
