Good Morning,
Been busy the past couple of days, and then I go to post and realize if I post now it will only be valid for a couple of hours before it is dead as a result of the new thread. So its been a while since I opened one so what the heck.
First hope everyone had a FUN and SAFE Halloween !!! We didn't have any Trick Or Treaters, not many kids in the neighborhood, and most kids go to the Parks or Shopping Centers. We dont even have ANY candy, that is UNAMERICAN ! (If I could drive or get to a store that would be solved.)
Spoke with one of the other guys on the forum that I thought was "ticked" at me. Fortunately it apparently is not the case. So that was the highlight of my day.
Also went to the VA today, for an Audio test. Good news hearing is better than average for men of my age. They had suggested that I have the test because of my Flight Line work during the service. The only thing is that I have a dificency of the frequency range of women and children[s voices. I asked the Dr to repeat that in front of my wife, but Kay said BS!
Been working extensively on organizing computer backup files, including photos. Wow, what a mess that is. After 2.5 days, I think I am making significant progress. As a matter of fact decided on posting two pictures in this post.
The first is a picture of Roy when he stopped by for dinner one night in August. I had just gotten home from the hospital . It was great to visit with him. (Did not know that my wrist/hand was broke at that time.)
The second one is of the 4014, being relocated from LA to Cheyenne this month. This picture was taken when the Chief was here this summer. (He is not in the picture, because he was afraid to get that close to such a BIGGG Engine). The UP are currently getting the engine preparred to it can be towed to Colton, CA. At Colton the engine will be made worthy to handle the balance of the trip to Cheyenne. The UP are putting down some temporary track to accommodate the initial movement. Currently the engine is at the LA Coutny Fairgrounds and will be moved across parking lots to the Metro Link trackage where it will be able to connect with the UP main lines. (Site of the Winter National Drag Races)
I think it is fantastic that the 4014 is going to be restored and made available for many, many people to see. Very few people actually get the opportunity to view the engine where it sat. (Right John F) As it gets its freedom, I too am looking forward to gaining some freedom this next week. (Loosing the cast of my leg.)
Found out yesterday that the duration my LOA has been extended to Jan 1. Sure hope I"m back before then. Looking forward to a great month, so hope everyone stays healthy for the holidays and all the preparations.

Windy, rainy 63 here at 5 AM. A little hectic this week but not as bad as last week.
Somebody asked about the Fallen Rider. My last report was Oct 6th. DIL visited him. He is conscious and has most memories. He still had a tube in his throat so he can’t communicate well. Has very little movement in his limbs. I’ll find out more tomorrow night as we’ll be attending the annual awards banquet. Thanks for all your prayers.
On that note I have a renewed call for prayer for son’s FIL. The 1st round of chemo and radiation didn’t shrink the cancer in his lung as much as they hoped. Round two began on Monday. Son say’s it hit him hard.
With the ‘bean harvest complete, son has moved on to corn. Looks good so far.
Roy…….was that you in CTT this month?...............are you getting the floods I heard about on the news?

Brent……you’re a brave man to keep the kids alone while the Q was away.
Rain kept the trick or treaters away last evening.We only had about 20. Mrs & I did or standard Fire out front cooking bacon & Sausage on a stick. I did set up the EZ-Up to keep us dry

Hi GUYZ,
Busy as a Giant Beaver on Duck Dynasty! Great show. Got all the compost dug under and garden fertilized and limestoned. Got all the flower beds cleaned out and readied for winter. Seems like outside work is done. Got a truckload of wood from the Amish up the road for outside fires after pheasant hunting.
Went out for Pheasants last Saturday, MINNIE gal worked great she flushed 3 birds for us but I was in the tall sweet grass and couldn't get gun up and Bro missed them. Anyway with no training on bird hunting she did great. Was bouncing in winter wheat trying to find birds where they flew but didn't get them to fly. We will try again tomorrow. She was beat on Sunday and slept most of the day.
BANKS, Big winds your way too? Glad you got the beans in, farmers here had em in last week. Now if they only start with the corn?

Aloha. Halloween was rainy which kept down the visitors - all the more chocolate for me! The youngest and I did end up going out but just up and down our block. Looks like today is another grey day - but it's Friday!

Ambushed by the Chief this morning.
Yes, you heard it right. I fell into one of the Chief's most clever ambushes this morning when I went to the computer. The Chief for years has been training varmints and dogs to chase me down. This morning he sent one his bees to find me and he did. I put my hand on the mouse and WHAM!! I was stung on my right hand. Pulled my hand away and WHAM!! It stung me on my left hand. If you see one of the Chief's bees, just slap it with a CTT Magazine.

Don, good photo of you on the beast at Pomona. Last I heard they were piling up panel track making preparations to move the engine. They have to move the two behind it first out of the way, then roll 4014 backwards, then forward to the left heading for the main line to the North. Will keep you posted if I hear any more news about it.
Tracked in cat poop this morning and spent about an hour cleaning up. Uh!!!
Where is Chief? Oh, that's right, he is in his deer mobile or huntingmerink or whatever.
Not many trick or treaters last night. Same here as Don says. They go to parties and city parks nowadays so I will have more candy to eat myself.

The temps are around 60 and the skies cooperating for the Red Sox' victory parade in downtown Boston as a bazillion people have made their way downtown to celebrate another baseball chamionship. I feel bad for youse Yankee fans (NOT!!!!).
What a great few days of weather we have had. The temperatures have been above 50 for a few, accomodating Halloween, yesterday (reached 70!!!), and today. The rain moved out on Halloween just in time for the Trick or Treaters.
The wifey and I had our traditional horde over for Halloween yet again. Served up beef stew and scala bread to fortify the gang before they hit the streets in search of candy. Of course, I bought enough candy for 3 Halloweens and will be stashing the leftover in the freezer. We had about 4 dozen little ones come to the door, about average for us. We might have had more except I think some kids or their parents wimped out because of the rainy afternoon we had, fearing the wet stuff would continue into the evening.......but it didn't!!!! We capped the evening by everyone sitting down to watch the classic (Charles Schultz) Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin special which had its beginnings in 1966. The tradition of watching it on Halloween has continued uninterupted over the years. My two little grandchildren were completely decked out in costume and makeup: Victoria as the wicked witch from the Wizzard of Oz (complete with nose and chin and green skin) and Gabriella as Tinkerbell.
The doggies Maximus and Raven were safely parked in their crates in the kitchen when they were not making "the rounds" greeting the guests and shmoozing.......ya don't want any escapes, and it is during events like this when "accidents" happen and people lose their dogs out the door. Maximus was dressed up like the devil and Raven was a witch.
We still have quite a few leaves left on the trees, looks like fall cleanup will continue for another couple of weeks here. Fortunately for me all of my adjacent neighbors have been keeping up as I have been. So I don't have a problem with others sharing their Fall foliage "debris" with me.
Later, gang. Back to watching the victory parade.

Partly Cloudy and warm here - we had 11 cancelled appointments yesterday and today has a few more.. weather may play a factor in this. Yesterday was stormy and gray and today its beautiful.
Working on days like this sucks. I thought we would be busy.

Watching the Buckeyes rip my beloved Boilermakers to shreds. 88, I feel your pain.
V8, I saw all those folks with no place to go milling around on TV. Lots of them just walked out of the airport on the roads because there was no auto traffic in or out. I felt sorry for all those people trapped on planes for over four hours because there were no available gates to unload. Finally someone got their head out of you know what and unloaded them on the tarmack away from the terminal. You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure that out.
No train related news today. Still waiting to see when they are going to move the big boy 4014 at the Pomona fairground. They have been stock piling panel tracks in preparation for the move.
Busy time at church this week with All Saints Day on Friday, All Souls Day on Saturday and regular Sunday mass tomorrow. They put off the mass for All Souls Day until next Saturday because there were two many things in a row this week.
Got my new U.P. Railroad Calendar in the mail. Nice photos but all diesels. Thought they would put in at least one of their steam engines.
I heard that they have enough donations now to fire up N&W 611 but won't do it until they collect enough to build a new building and shop to house it in. They will need some donors with deep pockets for that.

Took Friday as vacation. Worked on the Polar Express layout in the morning then transported it to the community center at the park to get it set up for today's train show. Got to the show about 7:30 this morning to set up layout #2, which was three ovals on grass mat.
The show was well attended, and the kids seemed to enjoy watching the operating layouts - Moe & Joe on the lumber car certainly did their share of entertaining. Hah numerous satellite launchings too. At the end of the day, we only hat two casualties. The P.E. Berkshire took a header off of the table and bent a pilot, and my MPC era baby Hudson stopped for as yet unknown reasons.
Had everything torn down and home by 5pm.
I picked up a Soo Line boxcar, but missed out on a #211 Texas Special AA unit. I saw it early in the show, but the guy running the table was busy. By the time I got another break they were gone. Oh well. Half of the fun is in the hunt.

Halloween was a success, went thru almost all 14 #'s of candy. Last one to leave was a little guy who came back for a second visit to watch the trains. Since it was pretty much over for the nite I let him come inside the barrier for a much closer viewing. Very well behaved, no touching as they ran by, and lots of questions. Seemed like we had a lot more little ones that almost had to be pulled out crying because they wanted to stay, more second round visitors to sit and watch. Lights out and door closed about 9:30.
Wine and beer was a big hit but the Chili was even bigger.
Good day at the museum yesterday, no pile-ups as Laz would say. Cleaned tracks then took down the ceiling hung halloween decorations prior to opening, yours truly is not the most graceful person to be entrusted with climbing around on the layout. Crowds were kinda sparse most of the day, probably to many upset tummies from all the sugar the nite before. Stayed late after 4pm closing time to work on some club business followed by a late supper.
Today was a bit of a veg-out day, to much happenin's the past two days. A couple of outdoor things from halloween taken care of and went thru the military cars in prep for Veteran's Day.
8n, Don't know why but the little ones, even though the odds are they've never seen a real one in operation, just go absolutely bonkers over the steam loco's.

The past two days were a bit busy. We spend Friday, Friday night, and half of Saturday at Yokosuka Naval Base which is about three hours away by car. The reason we went there is that it is a larger base and has a larger base exchange (department store). So it has more of a selection of clothes for the kids. Unfortunately, none of the local Japanese stores carry items in our sizes, specifically shoes. The trip is also nice because our hotel room on the base has a nice water view and the boys can watch many ships coming in and out of port. Today, we have been enjoying our usual Sunday routine.
Banks - I'll pray for your rider and son's FIL.

Wow, 14 lbs of candy, that's a lot of candy Doug. No wonder you guys are so popular. If I would have known that I would have come down. Sounds like you really had a great time. Who had a better time the hosts or the guests, I'll be the hosts. No substitute for seeing those kids lighting up for the trains, really awesome.

Havn't been doing a lot around here just exercising, and waiting for Wednesday. Been looking forward to this for what seems like an eternity. Did go to the swap meet yesterday with Kay, kept her company primarily. Did wheel myself around the entire place in the chair, just to kill time and exercise.
We havn't figured out what will be on today's agenda yet, will try and get a hold of the Chief later see how he is doing.
I sure will be glad to be mobile again, Kay tries to maintain the pool, cars, and other things, just can't wait to get back into the swing of things.

Back in the Ol' Pueblo for the weekend and then back to the VLA site on Monday. Big day should be the 12 or 13th, when we lift 75 tons and put it on a truck.
Waiting for that K-line switcher to show up. When it does I think I will have successfully recreated my original HO train set in O-scale.
Continued Corvair carb work this weekend. Spent the last few weekends diddling w/ them. Discovered that the cross shaft is worn. Big surprise after 48 years. Have some brass bearing blocks next to me here that need to go on today.
Don & SPray - just heard about the 4014 work this week. Thinking about moving to Cheyenne!!
Time to find some breakfast and then work on the car.
