Good evening all,

Love the PSA on parking locomotives!  Mowed yard today.  Watched English Premiere League football on NBC today.  Good game as Norwich City came back to beat  West Ham United in a thriller 3-1.  Ok, it is not Man U vs Chelsea, but still it is "real" football on regular TV, and next week I get to watch F-1 on regular TV as well.

Talked to Lucas twice today.  Some possibilities are looking up for him, but too soon to tell.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all.  Sunny and not as cold.  Getting ready to go to deer camp.  Seem to have finally shaken this sinus thingy.  Turning colder as the week goes by.  Probably come back and then go check out lake house for a night.

NASCAR fans.  Where was the sanctioned first dirt track race and when?

Train show was great.  Lots of "junk" as usual for the O gauge teams.  Found a couple of modern NS items but could not find the seller.  The massive HO layout was a lot of "hands on" running.  Yes.  Constantly derailing and stopping.  Guys were constantly having to push the engines to keep them running.  Cars derailing and they would take them off of the layout.  Scenery was the only impressive thing with them.  [why I am not in to HO]  The N gauge was different to my surprise.  They were running long trains and no problems.  Scenery was great.  Only O gauge layouts were short kids things that let them press buttons to make accessories work.

Answer to question above.  According to the historical marker at the NC State Fair Grounds.  The old dirt track at the Fair Grounds [not there now] is it.  The date seems funny.  Indicates 1970.  How old is NASCAR?

Have a good one.

V8, sorry about your tumble with the dog.  A widower friend of mine got a Lab after his wife died.  He does not walk the dog yet for the reason you describe.  He is about 80 and is afraid the dog might knock him down.  He says the dog has not been trained yet and might take off if he sees something.  His son got him the dog from a shelter.  I think he would have been better off with a small dog.

Don, did you say you are going to San Diego tomorrow?  I thought you were getting the cast off Monday.  Maybe I got the day wrong.

Got a phone call from one of my Thursday night train guys or should I say, I called him.  A mutual friend told me that he has been trying to call me for a couple of weeks but had been calling  my cell phone number which I never turn on except in emergency.  I don't usally give out that number since I don't monitor it.  Anyway the friend is back at work after about two years.  Other friends have been traveling.  We might have a get together before Thanksgiving.

later,

Ray

Gone.  Back Tuesday night or Wed.

Wow, a couple days of peace and quiet!! Smile, Wink & Grin

Attended the Dalton Train Show at Dalton, Ohio today.  It is a huge show for this part of the country and the prices are amazingly low on many items. I purchased the obligatory shirts for the grandsons.  Chuck had asked me look for a track cleaning car and I found a dandy for only $20.00. Using the Iphone I sent him a photo and let him talk to the dealer.  After he gave me the okay via email, I went back and purchased the track cleaning car.  Time

I'll be in Dayton, Cincinnati and Louisville this week.  Automobile

Nice weekend here.  Saturday and Sunday were both sunny and in the high 60'/low 70's.

Had Thomas the Train day at the museum yesterday.  About a dozen kids showed up.  The publicity for the event was not as good as it has been previously.

Another picture of my layout at last week's train show showed up in the county newspaper that gets published once a week.  It is interesting to note that there were very nice N scale and HO scale layouts at the show, but the pictures published in the paper were of my three loops of O gage track laid out on tables covered with grass mat.

Got a couple of new items form the LHS Saturday.  Was going to take pictures and post them on SPF, but I had to donate several hours at work today.  I'll get them there next week.

About all for now.

Happy Veteran's Day!  Ohayo Chuck.

Thanks to all those on the Pot that served.

Yesterday turned out to be a somewhat busy Sunday for us: after Sunday school and church we had to get ready to host dinner at our house.  We had a few other church families and their kids over for dinner.  The main dish was an enormous brisket we slowly cooked in the oven for about seven and a half hours.  It was great and we had a good time.

I started off today with a 16-mile run and then a 2-mile walk with the wife.  I've spent most of the afternoon helping the Princess with her math.  We're having leftovers for dinner.

Laz - Yes, 8-6 is not a bad score; I just hated to see all the errant snaps, especially the one that resulted in a safety.

Aloha. Thank you, vets, and our own Joe DeMay! Grey and supposed to snow later! Spent the entire weekend raking leave and then mulching them as best I could. Still filled 12 bags. It was a good workout and just in time for a week of highs in the low 30s.  Thanks to Buckeye, I am studying the footings of bridges in Wales (using Google Images) before attempting one for Ivor on the layout later this month.  Boy, the Bears sure stunk yesterday - kudos to the Lions.

I had a neat moment coming into work this morning. My commuter train comes into the station on tracks raised by the North Western back in 1913 so it crosses the Santa Fe tracks that curve into Union station. At just the right moment, our train crossed over one from the BNSF commuter line and the Amtrak Hiawatha, with the 'L' crossing above us at the same time. Too bad I wasn't in a place to snap a photo, but it was a model rail moment with four trains crossing over.

All Veterans past and present, thank you for your service to our country.  God bless you all.

Went out to eat last night with family and widower friend from church.  He was in a terrible mood but lightened up after dinner.  Hope our get together helped.  I think it did.

No plans today.  Might just run trains and take it easy.  While running a proto 2 engine yesterday, the train just abruptly stopped like someone pulled the plug on the transformer.  Lights were still on in the passenger cars but the DCS equipped engine shut down.  Had trouble restarting but finally got it going again.  Have no idea what caused it unless it was a short or something.  Happened in the same location twice so I suspect a problem in the track at that location or something in that particular engine that does not like that section of track.  All other engines have no problem.Confused

 Have a fun Holiday,

Ray

Since both of my Grandfathers were Veterans of WWI, a little history for today: Time

Armistice Day (which coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, public holidays) is commemorated every year on 11 November to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War Iand Germany at CompiègneFrance, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918. While this official date to mark the end of the war reflects the ceasefire on the Western Front, hostilities continued in other regions, especially across the former Russian Empireand in parts of the old Ottoman Empire.

Most countries changed the name of the holiday after World War II, to honor veterans of that and subsequent conflicts. Most member states of the Commonwealth of Nations adopted the nameRemembrance Day, while the United States chose All Veterans Day (later shortened to 'Veterans Day') to explicitly honor military veterans, including those participating in other conflicts.

In the U.S., the function of Veterans Day is subtly different from that of other 11 November holidays. Unlike the situation in other countries, where that calendar date is set aside specifically for honoring those who died in action, Veterans Day honors all American veterans, whether living, dead in action, or deceased from other causes. The official national remembrance of war dead is instead Memorial Day, originally called 'Decoration Day', from the practice of decorating the graves of soldiers, which originated in the years immediately following the American Civil War.

A big salute to all of our Veterans today.  Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up

Evenin' boys.  Waiting for our first burst of SNOHIZO in the morning.

Well, trip to New Freedom was well worth it.  Leviathan 63 and York 17 are truly  rolling pieces of artwork.  The short consists were sold out, but we had a good time chasing them, as Rte 616 parallels the line.  Grandson was still chatting up the "big choochoos" with his mommy at bed time.  "Ding ding".

Konbanwa,

I hope everyone had a great holiday.  The weather has definitely turned cooler out here which is great; today's high was only 48.  There is not much to report out here.  The Princess has volleyball practice and somehow I ended up with dinner responsibilities.  I better start on that.

Brent - I hope you didn't tenderize Bambi with the car you're wanting to trade in.  I'm glad you are okay.

Buckeye - That was a great breakdown on the holidays.  Also, please note there is a day called Armed Forces Day which is designated to celebrate those currently serving in the armed forces.  Technically, active duty members are not honored on Veterans Day unless they served in a war.  However, I believe many of us would rightly celebrate and thank our service members any day of the year, as well as our police officers and firefighters.

Joe

Aloha. Sunny and cooooooold. It was nasty coming home in the snow yesterday. Nice meeting with the pastor at church last night. Then got a chance to run the cobwebs off Ivor after fixing one of his tunnels again (due to a visiting feline)  He seemed happy. Smile

Have you seen the 'Made in the USA' military load cars by Lionel?  They look nifty.

Hello all,

A near miss from the Snow Cannon resulted in white grass along with a stiff breeze this AM.

First hard freeze predicted tonight. That should bring down the remaining leaves so I can gather them this weekend. I do need to re-install the heat tape that was removed to repair a leaking drinking cup in the barn and winterize the camper.

Mrs & I went spotting using the car headlights the other evening. Counted at least 15 Whitetails in the now harvested corn field. No Bucks(at least not big enough to see) The weekend was nice. I helped Mrs and we did some cleaning and other stuff around the house.

Chief & Laz.......Good luck on the deer hunt

Still nothing on the train front.

Best get busy

Prayers for those in need

Don't know about alfalfa fields in Pomona.  The only agriculture still going on that I know of is at Cal Poly college just West of Pomona proper.  The students grow corn and silage for their animals. Might be some alfalfa but I don't know for sure.

Sunny and cold here today.  Started out at 23 degrees and never made it out of the 30's.  Clear sky tonight - it is going to get coooold tonight.

Working through the hit list on the Polar Express layout.  One of these items is making a billboard insert for the LHS to put in the layout somewhere in the billboard with the blinking light I won on e-bay last night.

Not much else going on.  All for now.

Good evening all,

Busy day at work.  Sat in the chair tonight and fell asleep.  More tired than I thought.  Fifedog, you had a question?  My daily descriptions have been much briefer lately due to a lot going on.  Did make arrangements today so we could have a good visit with Lucas on Thanksgiving.  That will be nice.

Konnichiwa and Ohayo Chuck,

Yes, fall is fully here as the weather has finally decided to remain on the cool side.  I had a brief 3-mile run and weightraining workout this morning.  Then I spent two hours with the older son's 5th grade class helping them assemble and launch bottle rockets.  The rockets were made from plastic soda bottle containers and the propellant was water and air.  My son's team won as their rocket flew the farthest - over 80 meters.  I may have had as much fun as the kids.  We have flag football practice tonight and I have no idea what is on the dinner menu.

Doug M. - I like those cars and actually have the Air Force ones on my Christmas list.

I hope you all have a great day.

Joe
