Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It was a bit cooler today with less sunshine.  The day was uneventful until the 10 y/o son decided to fall and hurt this thumb.  After 90 minutes at the urgent care clinic, we learned it is a light sprain.  We missed flag football practice, but fortunately my assistant coach was able to handle it.  I'm not sure if he will be able to play this Saturday.  My assistant coach's son sprained his ankle yesterday so we could be down two players for this game, or longer.

Chuck - Thanks for the link.  I will need to check our television schedules for it.  I'm sure I'll have to record it due to the time difference.

Mike C. - I'm glad you enjoyed the concert.

Sayonara,

Joe

quick post - working

Sunny and cold here in Central NJ

Demay - congas on the promotion

Doug - does the museum have a trust so they can repair the poles?

Found my lamp posts in the larger WalMart, Micheals selection wasn't anything I gotta have.  The new Firehouse looks good but nothing that stands out....

Firehouse decoration day is Friday, Layout day is Saturday in the firehouse.  I have to work and may get to the firehouse the Friday after T-day just in time, need to make the layout firman prrof so it can be moved.

Back to work!

Aloha. Sunny and cold here too. I had a quiet evening doing household stuff and watching a few shows with my youngest. I realized he'd never seen Star Trek so I had to rectify that fatherly failing immediately. We watched an episode of the original series, and then one on the 'science' behind Doctor Who.

Rich, the museum doesn't have a trust for it but they have a bunch of expert volunteers with access to equipment and poles so they'll get to fixing them before it gets too cold.

Saw some of those battery powered Lionel PolEx sets for super-cheap at a local bookstore. Will grab one and then find a nice  kid to  give it to this season.

Some damage from Sunday's storms on the Illinois Railway Museum.

Doug, Whenever I see this type of damage, the first thing I suspect is inadequate anchoring into the soil.  In other words the hole for the pole wasn't deep enough or the pole was too short to start with. Saturated soil of course decreases the load carrying capacity.  I would bet that the signal foundations are reinforced concrete 6 to 8 feet into the ground.  High mast lighting commonly seen along the interstates are 20-25 feet deep.

Cloudy, drizzle and in the 40's today.  Good proper November weather.

I stopped by Menards after work today to get a few odds and ends.  I also wandered through the Christmas section and saw a flat car with truss load.  The price was not bad, so I bought it.  The package says that only 996 were made.  This one is #236.

I got the blocks set up on my P.E. layout and mocked the wiring for my voltage dropper.  Works well.  I can get a transformer setting that allows hands off running up hill and down hill.  The only oddity is a surge on the low voltage block as the train enters it.  Since the baby Madison coaches have a pick up on each truck for the lights, I think that the voltage in the low voltage block is raised momentarily when the car bridges the blocks.  I suppose I could disconnect one truck on the coaches to get rid of the surge.

I also finally got around to looking at my MPC era baby Hudson that decided to quit running at the train show a couple of weeks back.  Found that the screw holding the ground wire to the frame was loose, and that one of the brushes was sticky in its brush holder.

About all for now.

8N, sounds like you have it going good on layout.

Good morning all,

We're having drizzle this morning so everything is wet.  Did not take a walk yet.  Maybe later.

I was able to reschedule my possible colonoscopy until January.  Did not want to cope with that during the holidays.

We had a power failure last night around 3:30AM.  That's when I woke up and noticed that my oxygen concentrator was not working.  I only use it for sleeping and it is not so critical that I can't live without it so I don't think I was in any real danger.  However, I did get out my portable oxygen concentrator that works off electric or battery and fired that up.  It does not give out a continuous flow of oxygen but only dispenses it when you take a breath.  They call it pulse mode.  I am not used to the noise the machine makes and you hear a little hiss too when you take a breath.  All that kept me awake but the power came back on around 4:00AM.

V8, California is a gateway to the orient and many other parts of the world.  It's no surprise to me that we have so many recent imigrants here.

Don't know if the U.P. crew will continue work on the Big Boy today despite the rain but my son says they will.  The police use that parking lot at the fairground for driver training for their patrol cars and are anxious to get the steam engine out of the way so they can use it again.

later,

Ray

Afternoon fellas

Was hoping to have my BMW back today... no luck. Seems people can't follow instructions! Bang Head Nor can they understand the difference between a XEON lowbeam bulb and a HALO bulb. Bang Head Wonder how long it will be till the repair shop calls me back and tells me their 'man' hocked my bulbs ($120 for the lowbeam and $148 for the HALO).

Been designing a new layout for under the CHRISTMAS tree. Not sure if I will attempt it this year or wait to do for next year.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

This is a late post for me and I never had a chance to post yesterday.  Yesterday I was busy helping the older two kids with math.  It took some time as I needed to relearn some Algebra in order to help the princess.  Today our office had its Thanksgiving potluck lunch.  I ate more than I should have but there was some good food available.  To compensate I skipped dinner this evening.

Chuck - I discovered that the Railroad Alaska is run out here on Sunday nights.  I'll be tuning in to it this week for sure.

SJ - Your Tigers are trading a big name player.  I think they are making a smart trade.

Like Buckeye, I vividly remember November 22, 1963 and it's still painful.  There are very few things I would like to not do again but living through the '60's again would be a period I would not wish upon anyone.  A truly dark decade for America.

I have enjoyed all the network presentations this week regarding President Kennedy, very tastefully done.  Not sure where those fifty years went..........

Morning.  Sunny and warm.  Off to the farms to hunt.

We were in biology class and the teacher was late coming in.  Why?  He was listening to the news in the teacher lounge.  He came in and made the announcement.  We kept saying, "Are you sure?"  "He really isn't dead."

Have a great weekend.

Aloha from a cold and snowing - a little - Friday. A day indeed for reflection - don't recall much having been 6 months old.

Joe, I'm always studying up on the math so I can help the youngest. In a few years, I won't be able to keep up anymore.
Buckeye, those Michiganers were indifferent to Illinois plates. I think it reflects this state's lack of football prowess that neither Ohio nor Michigan cares.... Smile I happen to speak to a few of the pole maintainers at the museum the other day. They're all ex-ComEd or railroad men. They were speculating on the straight-line wind speed needed to bend the poles and the soil because the poles were allegedly 'regulation' depth. They wanted to fix them before the ground froze.

Joe I think you are right about the Tiger trade, there is no talent loss but it frees up a lot of money they can use for other players.

On this day in 1963 I was at work.  One of the secretarys had been listening to a portable radio while typing and heard the news about President Kennedy.  We were all shocked and could not believe it.  Boss shut the place down and sent everyone home for the afternoon.  I think all the businesses closed.  It happened very close to Thanksgiving and it really put a damper on the holiday.  We all put out flags with black streamers or at  half mast in our homes and were glued to the TV for several days until after the funeral.  He was a great inspiration to a lot of us young people back then.  I have never felt the same way about any other president since.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & brisk in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Gonna take grandson to see a huge Christmas train setup at local mall today.  I'm stoked.  Dropped the youngest princess off at her school dance last night.  Amazing how far she has come, when back in March she had major spine surgery.  Helping Fifepup build a O/HO coffee table layout for his brother's little ones.

Hi GUYZ,

I couldn't log in at this site for sometime.  Contacted CTT and they said Explorer 11 wasn't working here and had to use the tools for"Compatibility View Settings".  Now it works go figure.  I could log in for Bobs Train Box watch video but not come on here and use forum.  I think someone from NC had something to do with it?  Oh well now I'm on.

Big news, yesterday went to BARRYs TRAIN SHOP, upon entering found out that BARRY had a mini stroke on Tuesday.  He's ok and will be released today from hospital.  Hopefully he will start to heed the doctors advice and take better care of himself.  Prayers for my good buddy.

Went out with WIFE on a date last nite, was fun.  Had an enjoyable evening.

Today pheasant hunting with trusted dog MINNIE and BRO.  Appose to be windy and dropping temps this afternoon?  Maybe no fire tonite?

Ran trains last nite for 1.5 hours, NO PILE UPs!!!!  Go a Rice Crispies car at BARRYs yesterday and my Reading 1067 Caboose finally came in so had that on the track last nite.  Gonna start doing the final wiring for layout and then some scenery.  Gotta build my BIG FOOT Mt. too.

CHUCK & BUCKEYE, belated TGIF!!!

SIR JAMES, FIELDER, big bucks for little power in playoffs, better off without him.  Kid I taught in HS played with him in the minors, for a year.

JOEY D.  Great to here the team was doing good.  Keep em goin!

RAY, whats the latest on the BB?  I heard the Lionel BB for 2014 is gonna fetch 2150 bucks.  Nice seen it at YORK but lots o money for an engine.

Stay frosty my friends,

Good morning all,

Sorry I did not post yesterday.  I did the outside lights and paid some bills and was going to rest just a bit and then I was tired so I went to bed.  "Wicked" was a very good show.  It is interesting how one set of events can be reinterpreted so that an entirely different set of circumstances can lead to the same result for highly altered reasons.   Music was good and the acting was superb.  Had not been to a live stage show in quite a while.  Grandkids will be down today.  Was going to have standard gauge up but will have to run HO instead.

Good Afternoon,

Had a good day yesterday, made a visit to Knott's, to check up on everyone.

Probably, overdid it a little in the walking, probably ended up about 1 mile on the walker.  But worth it, saw everyone (save 2).  Got caught up on the news, and confirmed with everyone I was coming back.  All said and done left the house for PT about 8:30, didn't get back home till around 4.  So it was a bit of a long day.  Leg was 'talking" a bit last night, so I was put on restriction today.

That new Lion-Chief sounds interesting for a market entry level product.  Will be interesting to see how it fits in and is accepted.  I assume that the engines will work with TMCC or Legacy, (which probably will let DCS control it as well.  But will have individual specific controllers, (for each engine, apprx 20), when operated with the Lion-Chief system (handheld).

Have a great day!  Time to start planning for the Christmas layouts.

Good evening all,

Good to see you up and about, Don.  You will be back at the throttle sooner than you know.  Got to set up standard gauge as grandkids were a little bit later than scheduled.  The tables are at the right height for them, and all but the youngest (5 months) took turns "operating" the train.  Set up some Lego houses around the layout as well.  Only two hitches in the operation.  One was the Classic 384E has some sort of hiccup when running forward.  It seems to take off smoothly in reverse, but it takes about a lap around the oval in forward before it hits its stride.   It is almost as if it is lugging in a high gear at low speed in automobile and then it "comes on cam" so to speak and runs smoothly in forward.   Weird.  The other issue is track.  I could almost swear I have some more pieces of new track laying around somewhere, but I cannot find them.   I can get some from Train Express but it bothers me that I may have misplaced some track.   Oh well, it was a nice visit and a good time was had by all.

Weather is really cold here and looks to stay that way until after Thanksgiving.  Have plenty of indoor stuff to do.  Got new CTT today.  Looks like another good issue.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
