A quick cold [Yankee cold] good morning.  Drove back in the snohio and cold wind.  Shirt sleeve weather at noon yesterday.  Then it got windy.  By 4 PM [in stand] had on my layered camo coats and my gloves.  Windy dropped temps 20 degrees in no time.

Hunting: saw lots of does.  Yard dogs ran through first morning. Bang Head Does and nice 4 pointer yesterday morning.  Does yesterday afternoon until I go out of stand early.  Buddy shot big buck crossing field and got blood.  We tried to rack the deer and it got dark.  Wind howling and snow started blowing.  Finally gave up.  Big fields, deep ditches and etc.  He is going back this AM to look.  Cold so deer will be OK.

Brent, BMW's are not good deer hunting weapons. Whistling Sorry.

Have a good one.

PS: glad Shake and Bake got rid of his cast.  Still in boot but better to maneuver now.

Frank -- I wish you the best during deer season, I also wish for you safety.  We had our first fatality last week when an experienced deer hunter fell from his tree stand, very sad.  One of my wife's HS friends (also experienced) fell from his tree stand years ago and I've never forgotten him.  I used to be an avid hunter but now my hunting is with a very long Nikon lens attached to my camera Thumbs Up

Be safe and good hunting!

Thanks Jon.  I don't use climbers.  My stands are double ladder stands [gives room for backpack and etc.] so I'm climbing a ladder.  Also have welded conduit box stands that you climb ladder.  A little safer.

88 - Okay, that took a moment to set in...how bad is the damage?

Afternoon Fellas

TheQ traded her 2006 525i in on Friday on a 2011 528i - MUCH bigger car, and gets better MPG. Very nice drive and ride.

On Sunday, on our way to get medicine for The Princess, I tagged a yearling. I had just turned on to the road and was accelerating, initial estimate is $1,942.00 in damage ($937.00) for a new passenger headlight assembly. When I dropped it off at the repair show they found a few things missed by the adjuster, and I am having a few road chips fixed on the front facia for $160. So all-in-all not too bad. No sheet metal needs to be replaced and nothing more than minor 'dings'. Hope to get it back late this week - mid next week.

B - that's a pretty good turn around.  Those headlight assemblies are expensive especially if it's HID...

Price is not bad either.  Glad you and the family are ok  528?  Nice...should handle sweet too, even though it's a bit larger.

Good afternoon from the National Toy Trains Museum,  Can't seem to find the time to check in from at home. Smile  It was a little cold this morning, right around freezing, it's 39 now and heading for 27 tonight.  Then to get a little warm spell over the weekend with highs in the 60s and lows in the high 40s. On the bright side it has been sunny all day long.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Brent, Sorry to hear about the deer strike, my granddaughter had one of those last fall, actually it hit her car.  She was unhurt but the car got a pretty good job done on it.

Well back to work, still cataloging photographs, working on a collection of McCoy standard gauge photographs given to us by Margaret McCoy.

Good news for D.Baker getting the cast off!  Finally!

Other news here is announcement by the Rail Giants Railroad Museum at the L.A. County Fairground in Pomona that there will be a press conference at 10:00AM tomorrow and the Big Boy 4014 will start its journey across the parking lot to the North End of the fairground where it will stay for a while until U.P. and Metrolink work out a schedule to move it to West Colton which is the first step on it's way back to Cheyenne. They are going to leap frog the engine across the parking lot on track panels..  Sort of like snap track.  I will try to get out there tomorrow.

Sounds like Fall has arrived in the East with all those lower temps.

Chief, glad you had a good hunt.  Stay safe on the ladders.  My doctor won't let me get near one.  I fell off of one next door a couple of years ago picking avacados.  Landed on my feet but did not break anything thankfully.

Just got good news from Bob Keller that the new WBB GP30 is only about 3 1/2 inches  in height.  I was worried about it going through a bascule bridge but this should clear fine.  I think I will get the ACL version if I can find one at a good price.

V8 Dennis, thanks for the tip on the sale at the Train Stop in San Dimas.  I'll try to check it out.

Ray

Brent,

Ouch.  Make sure that the shop uses new OEM parts.  Most insurance companies have their "authorized" shops use LKQ salvage parts unless you have an OEM rider on the policy.

If you don't have the rider, they should let you pay the difference between the OEM and salvage prices.  The markup on the LKQ parts is usually so ridiculous that the OEM is only a few dollars more.

I don't know about you, but salvage parts on a newer vehicle are unacceptable to me.

Good evening all,

Work was busy but frustrating today.  Spent most of the evening weeding out unneeded financial papers.  Amazing how that accumulates in a hurry.  Watched Arrow.  Very good episode.

V8Vega
For those in southern Calif especially  Ray as he is close The Train Shop in San Dimas is closing and has 50% off sale. Open 10 to 5 Wed. to Sat

V8 Dennis,  I went to the Train Stop in  San Dimas today and picked up a few items at half price.  The 50% off sale on everything in the store is still going on.  They said it had been going on for two months but this is the first I heard about it.  A lot of good things have been sold already.  Most K Line passenger cars have been sold except for some Bombardier commuter cars but not Metrolink.  The Ringling Brothers Circus Advertising car that I wanted had already been sold but I picked up a K line circus observation car with open platform on the back and an awning overhead.  Car is lighted with interiors.  Original price was about $150 but I got it for $75.  Could have had the same car with a different name for $50 but I wanted the one with the name Sarasota which was the home of Ringling Brothers Winter Quarters.  The one I wanted was from a later run after a price increase but the two cars are identical.Angry  I also picked up two circus flat cars by K Line with circus wagons also at half price and a couple of lighted lock ons by Lionel.

Another sunny day here.  Started out at 23 degrees, but managed to get up into the 40's by the end of the day.

I soldered together a voltage dropper last night.  Used Bob's re-purposed bridge rectifier idea.  I made a chain of 8 of them and ended up with 1 volt +/- steps.  I'm planning on building it into a panel with rotary switches for each block of track on my Polar Express layout.  That will make it easy to tweak the voltage depending on what I am running.  I'm trying to get the layout set up so it I won't have to jockey the throttle to maintain a reasonably constant speed up hill and down hill.

All for now.

Good night all.  Warmed some.  Played lazy today.  Took Wifey on a shopping trip.  Got her "errands" done.  Tried to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie but reclinerized most of the evening with Wiley in lap.

8N, used those rectifiers to reduce voltage on smoke units I installed in dummies and accessories where I'm using 18 to 20 volts.  Works great.

Off to bed.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

I just got home a few minutes ago.  I found out I was on the recent promotion list so we went out after work for a few drinks.  That is the news for the day and I have nothing else to report.

I hope you all have a great day.

Morning.  Cold.  Warming this afternoon.  Warmer tomorrow and through the weekend.

Not much going on today.  Work on old bedroom suit my Dad had for the extra bedroom [now repainted that was train room].

Off to walk now.

Afternoon fellas

Slow going here today. Got a call from the insurance company this morning, all adjustments have been authorized. Thumbs Up

Probe - Only part being replaced is the headlight assembly. And that will be an OEM unit.

I like driving The Murano, but I miss my BMW. It is just an all around more enjoyable ride. My 325xi does NOT compare to TheQ's new 528. That car is just pure driving enjoyment.

During the search for TheQ's new car I searched high and low for just about every different manufacturer out there. A few months ago Fife and Wifey treated Matthew and I to a ride in their new Durango Thumbs UpThumbs Up, it was very impressive - even riding in the second row. Well Fife mentioned they had looked at the new Grand Cherokee and since I was 'window shopping' I stopped by the Jeep website. The Grand Cherokee is being offered with a new V6 Clean Diesel Engine! A full-size SUV that gets 30+mpg on the hi-way, and since we have a Jeep dealer in Mt Airy - I think I found my next vehicle. I'll probably keep the 325xi and use both vehicles so I don't put all the miles on the Jeep...

Chief - I don't hunt with my BMW... but it appears deer are attracted to ANY car I drive. [tdown]

Good afternoon all,

I went to Pomona this morning to LA. Fairground to see the U.P Big Boy start on it's move back to Cheyenne.  They laid about 700 ft. of temporary track today and will continue for the next few days.  They have to go about 5000 ft. to get to the main line.  They were moving the engine with a big bucket loader pulling it backwards with what looked like a firehose.  Press was there and it may be on ABC TV tonight at least locally.

Friend of mine went over late today and said they were unloading some more panel track for tomorrow.

Work was very quiet but successful in the one endeavor attempted today.  Watched Glee.  Almost turned it off, but it got really good.  Glad  I watched.  Worked on financial papers some.  Not too much more to do.

Aloha and TGIF. Looks like we'll get a brief but welcome warm-up over the weekend. Boy, I sure wouldn't mind living someplace with warmer temps year 'round. Spent yesterday doing errands, met the pastor for lunch, and fixing things I'd inadvertently screwed up at work. On the look-out for deer this season too but haven't seen any... I miss the area junkyards too. They've all been 'cleaned-out'.  Seeing that Big Boy move must've been something. I'll look for video online.  John Fullerton, wasn't it just your birthday? Happy Day!

Good evening all,

Very quiet at work.  Scored some Selena Gomez tickets for next Tuesday.  Three musical events in one week.  Going to see a Celtic fiddle player Saturday night, Selena on Tuesday, and Wicked on Thursday.  Will be interesting.  F-1 in Texas on NBC Sunday.  Cannot bring myself to say USGP because that properly should be at IMS.    #$%#@&*^%$ Ecclestone!  (Tell us how you really feel, MIke).  See where the soon to be Mr. Judd again has retired from racing due to injuries at the Houston race.  Hate to see some one retire under those circumstances, but glad to see him quit while still healthy.

Good evening all,

Wanted to go back to Pomona today to see progress on UP Big Boy but stayed home to take care of things and took some medicine that kept me close to home today.  However my son went over and I saw some of it on a web cam posted by Trains Magazine.  They put down quite a bit of panel track today and were suppose to make another move this afternoon but the web cam cut off before I could see it.  The crew will be there until at least next Monday working their way to the main line which was 5000 ft from the starting point.  That engine was put in the fairground in 1962 but was moved to a different location at the fair about 20 years ago.  It has not turned a wheel since then until now.

It was cloudy and cool today so I worked in the garage and cleaned my track which needed it badly.  Ran my new Ringling Brothers private observation car on the back of a passenger train today pulled lby my Santa Fe 4-8-4 2900 class steam engine.  Made a good looking train.

Yesterday I picked up an Atlas Union Pacific Caboose at the Train Stop so now I guess I will have to get a U.P. engine to run it with.  Kind of thinking about the new GP30 by WBB.  It is a lot more colorful than the ACL second generation paint job of black with yellow stripes which I had thought of first.

I may go back to the fairground tomorrow for another look if the spirit moves me.

Hope all you guys in the East are staying warm.  It is cool here but pleasant.

Railroad videos on FAMNet tonight at 9:00PM.  They are the same as RFD I think.

See ya tomorrow,

Ray

Mornin' boys.  Up with the roosters again.  Really need to get cranking on the North Pole layout, as wifey wants it up before the end of the month.  Went to M.B. Klein yesterday, and they have no idea when the Gingerbread Docksider set will be in.  Also, trying to seek out a Williams NKP 765, so please be on the lookout.

jefelectric and submmbob - any Cake left...?

Demay - Best of luck on the promotion.

anjdevil - Wow, we have a VP and a Mayor in our ranks.

88 - I really thought the lifting suspension in the Cherokee was cool.  Go with the smaller rims for a better ride.
