Aloha. Just beat the big thunder-hail storm into the office. Grey and cold and misty. Looks like night outside. Nice evening catching up on Doctor Who episodes with my youngest, in between helping with his homework. Didn't get to Ivor.Boy, Kev, the temp difference between you in the 'south, the city and me up in the northwest can sure be huge - though not as huge as Roy experiences in Deep in the Heart of Somewhere

charliebrown RockIsland52 OBSERVATION FOR THE DAY: When I got up this morning to take out the trash and recycleables I heard the furnace running. Yesterday I had turned the thermostats down a couple of degrees because we had 60s. I wanted to open some windows and let some fresh air into the house. Last night I left the thermostats lowered and closed all of the windows EXCEPT the one in our bedroom/office because my wife was playing around on the PC. "Make sure you close the window when you come to bed, dear" I told her. Needless to say, she forgot. The second floor thermostat is right outside that bedroom in the hall. The furnace kicked in and ran all night. (And no, that did not raise the outdoor temperatures.) Did you ever get to thinking that wives do this kind of stuff on purpose? She will be the first one to point out a light left on by me but will have two televisions going at the same time, on different floors!!! I need to consult some of the senior statesmen on the POT to determine if this marital enigma is temporary or a life long curse. Jack Jack You made me spit coffee out on my laptop! I have talks like this with my wife. Only I never leave things on for her to point out. She will leave lights on all the time. Plus like you said two televisions in different rooms. I mean you can only watch one at a time .... right???

This is a classic case of women's logic. If I do it, then it is grossly wasteful. If she does it, I am being nitpicky and anal. Or, "Do as I say, not as I do." It is a miracle our kids turned out OK.
BTW, having talks with a wife are overrated and usually not productive, unless you are agreeing with them.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

Rain on the North Bluff today, some times pretty hard at that too.
Rich, good luck today with the brain probe.
Jack, I agree, unless you are doing very heavy hauling a lot of the time there is no need for diesel power. It is just a lot more expense.

Morning all. Sunny and going to mid 80's. Low was 69 last night. Will drop after tomorrow as front comiong through. Highs will be middle 70's. Not as drastic as some of you west and north of us. Good luck as some nasty stuff.
Probably disk gardens. Got to mow first as did not get a chance yesterday.
Got to go check and see if engineer mouse smell is gone.
Well, first time in about 20 years, get some $$$ back from taxes. Only thing is we have extra taken out from retirements, SS, Wifey's parttime job and my Mayor's "big" salary. Then I pay a big chunk quarterly. So, I am getting back what they have had to use for months. They don't give you interest on it and if you don't over pay, they add a penalty for what you have to pay them if over a certain amount. Something wrong here.
On the good side, Ran trins for an hour while still looking for engineer mouse and doing some other straightening things in the Box.

KEV and all.........what is the point of buying diesel in the first place?
While the fuel economy is arguably 25% better, the cost per gallon for diesel (versus gas) wipes out a lot of those savings. This price differential has been pretty steady the past 6 years up my way. Then one is left to find a private mechanic expert enough to work on them. Finding a gasoline engine mechanic, much easier.
Re foreign versus alleged domestic automobile manufacturers. Reliability is still the Japanese forte though the domestics have clearly closed the quality (initial build and long term) gap in the last decade (JD Powers, CR rankings, etc.) But there aint an automobile manufacturer out there on either side of the oceans that one could say is the clear choice if one wants a problem-free car experience. Just follow the NHTSA recalls, the car forums/blogs, or the technical service bulletins issued.
While my 2004 Infinity G35 (Nissan) has been relatively problem-free for the past 9.5 years (power window motor died), it was recalled twice. Parts/labor rates are expensive, the high priced spread !!! Now that I am off warranty (factory and extended) this is a factor for me. For example, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System sensors on the Infinity are $150..... EACH!!! Not as bad with my 2007 SRX (GM), and no recalls on my particular model. I do agree, however, that my limited experience is no gauge.
Now if you want to argue that our government dropped the ball big time with the GM (or Wall Street) bailout, you will get no argument from me.
When your government loans money or guarantee loans, you put in checks and balances that make those financial instruments (and risks) pay dividends, like in job retention domestically. And if the government has to bail out an investment firms and banks, it should not reward greed and stupidity by allowing the boards of directors to approve "bonuses." Common sense: you don't reward greed and stupidity. "You want a loan or a loan guarantee? Here are the terms: more jobs and no bonuses during the term of the loan. Take it or leave it."
charliebrown Demay RJ – Where in OK does your wife call home? My wife is originally from Muskogee. I use Photobucket for storing/uploading photos online. If you’re using solid 2”x4” framework then ½” plywood should be sufficient. Are you planning to use homasote or foam on top of the plywood? If I use 1"x4" framing will I need a thicker board? Not sure about topper for the board. Probably go with whats available.

RJ/Charlie Brown I made my framing using 2"x4" for my legs and basiclly 3/4" by 2 1/2" ( stripping ) For my framing and put 3/4" plywood for top and it will hold me with out giving at all and I weigh 280LBS. I'm presently walking and crawing all over it as its 8' x 16' oh I put the 2"x4" legs about every 4' go from front to back and every 2' left to right as I had lowes cut my plywood in half because it wouldn't fit in the car ( man I miss my truck lol. )

RedfireS197 KRM DougM, 77 Degrees here today. looks like it was cold their. The motor DR, Wants $50.00 to rewind my 218 armature. What do you guys think??? That's what he quoted me to replace a commutator as well as rewind a 681 armature several years back. Personally, I'd take that $50 and hunt for a 218 to strip for parts. Junk? What about GM's tin can go karts aka J Platform? Slow as #$%^ with build quality to match. It's strange that they along with the Delta Platform (Cobalts) were both discontinued because they couldn't meet revised crash test standards. Or the 3800 V6 that has a rep for consuming Dexcool after the plastic intake plenum distorts during normal duty. Don't get me start on GM electricals.

Joe my wife grew up in Sulphur,Ok. Most of her family is still there. She has a sister living in OKC. We were just down there last summer.
I signed up for photobucket. Didn't get to play around on there much yet.
Started work at 4:30am still tired from the twelve plus hours yesterday. Tried to get measurements done for layout boards. Needless to say that didn't happen. Maybe this afternoon. My plans are to get the wood and start constructing the frame work this weekend. We'll see how that goes with needing to clean the camper, tear out two bushes, plant some plants, etc etc
Hope to check in later ... Have a great day everybody.

Good morning. It's 71° with 94% humidity. It will be cloudy with a fair chance of rain. Looks like the high will be 82°.Only plan for today is to work on cleaning up the layout. Looks like it'll be wet outside so I'll be staying inside as much as possible.

Yeah my dad had a Chevy '88 Scotts, and it still ran fine. Oh sure, it was showing it's age, but after a tune up, it ran like it did when it first came off the factory floor. We sold it for insurance reasons.
Good morning.
Much the same plans today as the past few days. Not much else. Been feeling too run down the past few days to work on the 109, P-38 or layout. Hope to be feeling better by this weekend.

Hello all
No Daewoo work yesterday, too windy. Is in a sand blasted parking lot so not a good time to have the engine open. Will have to wait until next week off.
Jack - engines on two wheels are just not for me. Rode the bike down to campus to pick up the truck tonight. Was a nice ride. Can pull the hill in 2nd gear.
Regarding newer cars, they are built everywhere no matter what brand they are. The Daewoo has a GM engine and even some German parts.
My buddy's Mazda P/U aka Ford Ranger? German V6 w/ a Japanese trans. Could be either a Mazda or Mitsubishi trans that year. Since it's a Mazda B3000 what does it have? the Mitsubishi trans, go figure

Konnichiwa,
It’s a busy past few days for me, but I fortunately I have a few minutes to post from work. I quickly read through the many posts I missed and I hope all those that were sick are feeling better and doing well. The weather has been pleasant the past few days with highs in the upper-60s and low-70s. The overnight and morning lows are still in the mid-40s so I usually have nice weather during my morning runs. I’m looking forward to baseball practice starting next week.
Ryan – That’s enough scrapple trash talking; we might start thinking you’re an undercover Reb and make you turn in your Yank card. I love the stuff and can’t wait for the next time I’m in PA to have some.
Chuck, AF Ray, Jack – Chuck, I’m sorry the Yanks bats came alive against your Tribe, but they had to at some point. How about that 40-year-old pitcher of ours?
Fife - The Japanese media does not cover the NK stuff like we see in the States so it's hard to get a read. I'm sure they're concerned as they have moved many Patriot missile systems around recently, but the government will not say too much publicly as they do not like to cause any panic. Their politicians do not use defense-related issues for political gain.

Evenin' All.
Doin' well since the ER visit, got rid of the water that caused the issues. Weight dropped by 7#'s and my primary care doc has taken me off the diuretics & potassium supplement.
Finished up the taxes tonite, needless to say I won't be sitting on any barstools for awhile.
Rich, Hopefully they'll only find things there that belong there.
To all the Yorkies, safe travels & have fun(at least as long as the funds last).
Later All !
Edit: Help ! Now that taxes are done I need to get to work on the Relay For Life layout. My worst fears came true, they will have power so they want the trains to run. That's the easy part but I need some help finding some walking/jogging/running figures to creat a "Relay For Life" scene on the layout. E-Bay wasn't much help. Any ideas appreciated.

I've got the temp of the new fridge set at 37 degrees. That's close enough. The freezer is -5. Again, that's close enough. They aren't absolutely perfect but as long as they keep my chimichangas, cheese, sandwich meat and fixings and my Cajun sausage fresh and doesn't freeze my insulin (stored in the crisper) that's all I need. The freezer contains more chimichangas and sandwich meat that's all frozen hard as rocks.Got all the couplers on the FP7's changed out and I replaced the front coupler retainer pins with screws. I've had instances where pins have fallen out due to vibration or whatever other reason.Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Engineer mouse dead. PUEW Can't find the sucker. Cleaned out his hidy hole he had under a roll of insulation in the corner under layout. Vacuumed it clean. Emptyed vacuum and cleaned filter. Still a smell even though I left the exhaust fan on closest to the smell. Just turned on A/C in there as 86 degrees. Hour later, 77 and smell not so bad.
Off to TV. BTW: TWC still scratching their heads. Sent a crew out this afternoon and test was the same. Moved the Cisco whole house DVR box to bedroom as Wifey does not watch channel 516 [Sportsman Channel]. Put the Samsung box in living room and now I can watch 516 with sound. Just have to go to bedroom to set up recording. 99% already set up so.
Sleep tight.

Yeah RT I have, and BTW read your book again. After 1957 it became a 1055-118 and that is what the 218 is.
