Hi guys.

 Well today was a pip.

Tom came buy and dropped off 3 chainsaws then told me to get in the car for a ride to the Chicago loop west side where he is selling 1/2 of a city block for 6 million dollars that developer wants to demolish the building on it and put up high end housing. Right I said six million. Anyway there is a 1992 Nissan 1300 box city delivery truck there and a  lift he has to get out before they close next month. Bang Head

I hate driving in the city, Keep that in mind.

So we get there and he tells me the truck has a transmission leak and he wants me to help him figure out how to get it and the lift out of the building and down to Bloomington.

I was shocked,, this truck has been sitting for 4 years and it fires right up and only has 66K on it. It did not take long to see that oil was shooting out of a rusty cooler line that sends trans fluid to an  external oil cooler. So I looked it over and decided it was cool enough today I could just loop the hose and bypass the cooler and get it out of there today.

At that point Tom decides his brother would drive it to the window shop in Joliet and I would drive his brother's truck behind him. So I got to drive in the city and I survived. Stick out tongue

Next week we are going to take the car hauler and a generator to charge the batteries on the lift. The thing looks like new and I think we will be able to drive it up on the trailer and get it out of there.

I also saw a like new fire proof industrial locking paint storage cabinet so I took it and will paint it something other than safety yellow and use it for a gun safe. Wink

Chain saws to work on tomorrow.

Got a report last night from one of the group about the 90 year old lady who had the stroke.  Sounds like she is not doing any better.  Sad situation.  Have not tried to visit her yet because of family request but people have been going recently.  I've been told that we might be shocked at her appearance.

The other lady from the group who has been in a nursing home was brought to the dinner last night by her husband.  Glad she was able to make it and it was the best theraphy she could get.

Ray.......you are a good friend, even if these two people are only casual acquaintances from church.

It is tough when your heart and your mind tells you that this lady with the stroke needs any and all comfort, even if she is in a coma and/or her cognitive abilities are impaired or gone.  And then family requests that you (and others) don't visit to provide her some of that comfort. No matter which way you go, there is a consequence.  Me?  I would visit her and then face the consequence with the family should it come up.  My bet is that it won't.  This isn't about them, nor is it about you.  Respect for the needs of the lady in the pickle should take the top slot. Angel

So glad that the other lady has improved to the point that she is somewhat ambulatory.  Each moment and each small step is precious. Angel

For either the first lady or the second........there may be no tomorrow.  My Dad always told me that we come to regret the things in life that we did not do.

Jeffrey, glad to hear the nephew fixed the tractor belt.  The experience was probably better than telling him about it.

Darn straight. I believe if you break something through negligence or just plain stupidity (not reading the manual qualifies) you should be responsible for fixing it or getting it fixed.

Brent – I remember that photo.  I had some good ones of our two boys watching the trains this past Christmas too.  What are the dimensions of your platform?  It fits nicely into that corner.

Joe - I don't remember the dimensions. I do know the bottom loop is O48 FasTrack so I think 56 inches square with the one corner rounded off. This year I plan to add some supports under the curved area, then put a 'skirt' around the edge to dress it up. Also plan to take a white king sized flat sheet and cover the whole thing, then put the track down over the sheet. Also plan to fill the void underneath with spray foam, and may put ceiling tiles on the plywood under the sheet. That should deaden the sound some.

As is, it is rather light and I can move it without separating the two sections. I also want to build two addon sections. One on the left that will have a 'hill' where the Santa Tower is, and one on the right to extend out about 4 feet, just have to see how O27 FasTrack mates with the O48. That way I can have the trains go infront of the station and have a small town, and maybe a trolley line.

Good morning all,

Went out to dinner last night with our church social group.  Went to Olive Garden and was very dissapointed with the spaghetti and meat balls.  Pasta was more like the stuff you get in cans and the sauce was mediocre.  Meat balls were ho hum and had too much spice in it.  Only salvation was the salad which was very good.  I know this place is only a chain outfit but you would think they would at least have good spaghetti.  Service was slooooow.  Next time, will go back to a "real" Italian restaurant.  Next month they are talking about going to a Bar-B-Que place but I read a lot of bad reviews about it on the net.  Chief, this is not real bar-b-que but boiled meat with bar-b-que sauce on it.  Yuk!

Jeffrey, glad to hear the nephew fixed the tractor belt.  The experience was probably better than telling him about it.

Thinking of all the good times I had at York in years past with the news of the upcoming meet next week. I would still go if it were'nt so far and my health was better.  I still have some frequent flyer miles but you have to make reservations pretty far ahead to use them.  American has diverted most of the flights from our local (Ontario, California) airport to LAX in  Los Angeles.  So now we have to drive clear across the L.A. basin to catch a plane.  Bummer.

Nice weather this week.

later,

Ray

LAZ........if you grease the blades first and then sharpen, does that make the blades sharper?  How do you get the grease off the lawn?  Laugh

Aloha. Grey and rainy and cold continues. Nice ride on the TARDIS last night with SJ, Brutus, Charlie and Kev. SJ, I bet those potatoes smell great! Watched a little of the Sox-Nats game last night - Washington looks strong. Ran Ivor and fixed up some of the backdrop that was drooping.

Today, I'll continue prepping for my bride's birthday this Sat. Still not sure what she wants - I guess plastic flowers, beef jerky and maybe a pack of gum from the local Exxon looks good. Smile

Good Mornin' Y'all From The Overcast Land Of Taxachusetts,

WOW!!!!!  24 hours and I am WAY behind on what is going on here. Surprise

HudsonJohn.......I am sorry to hear about your daughter's Oscar.  RIP.  She did her best but I have to keep reminding myself that doing my best sometimes is not enough.  Someone upstairs drives our bus.  And you probably know my feelings on these types of decisions.  In short:  we will do for our animals what we can't or won't do for ourselves.  Oscar is at the Rainbow Bridge, a far better place.

Tom......is it too late to send you your birthday present? LaughHappy B-Day

DougDG......I was glad to hear that your Doc has you back in action and that it was something simple.  Remember.....if it were not for knuckleheads like us our doctors would all be umemployed. Thumbs UpLaugh

Rich......that was some pretty good news on the scan, and I hope you didn't feel it was disrespectful of me to note that the docs would not find anything up there.  I WAS concerned.  Sometimes my feeble attempts at humor may be a bit inappropriate. Thumbs Up

Roy.......the steady soaking rain.  You have had far too little of it the last couple of years. Thumbs Up

SJ........if I tried to stay out of the way when my wife is cleaning, she would get upset.  Misery loves company in her mind. Bang Head

RT......it sounds like you are feeling a bit better.  KEV......you have not mentioned it in the past two days so may I assume you are feeling better also?

Brent......hop to it!!!!  It sounds like the SS SuzieQ was not quite as watertight as you had hoped.  Who was your contractor on a lot of that stuff?  Oh yeah, it was you!! Laugh

Brutus.....sounds like you and your dodged a weather-related bullet.Thumbs Up

Jeffrey......I know how aggravating it is when "someone" can take a brand new piece of equipment and screw it up because they will neither follow instructions or read the manual themselves, thinking they know it all.  Lucky you are there to bail them out.  Good for you!! Thumbs Up

I just got interrupted.  Gotta run!!!  To be continued!!!!

Good morning. It's 43° with 100% humidity. The high will be 65°.

Widespread thunderstorms with 30 to 40 mph winds seem to be the rule today. We've already had some rather heavy storms this morning. Think I'll stay inside today. There's plenty of cleanup work on the layout that needs to be done. I also have plenty of movies and documentaries I can watch.

Good Morning, 60, very overcast. Had a storm come thru last night/early morning. Rain, Thunder and Lightning.

My daughter had to have her dog Oscar put down yesterday. The vet thinks he had a brain tumor. It was not a good scene at her house on Tuesday afternoon. Thank God nobody was hurt.

Jeffrey: Glad to see that you made out well with the tractor.

Brent: I like the pic and same here, what the Princess wanted she got.

Jake: Good Luck with the paper. I agree with Ryan about Danette.

DougDG: Progress on the Relay For Life Layout.

Kev: Thumbs Up on the armature. Banks nailed that one. Thumbs Up Have fun with the chain saws.

Ryan: Good luck with your situation.

Chief: Cool Video. That was amazing.

RT: Sounds like an interesting layout.

Time to go and check out my son's truck. He claims it is idling rough and stalls. It is 29 years old and has over 300,000 miles on it. I will bet that there is a vacuum leak. 1 of the lines are either rotted or is off. This truck I know like the back of my hand.

1 week on on the road for York!

Have a great day.

RJ – Where in OK does your wife call home?  My wife is originally from Muskogee.  I use Photobucket for storing/uploading photos online.  If you’re using solid 2”x4” framework then ½” plywood should be sufficient.  Are you planning to use homasote or foam on top of the plywood?

If I use 1"x4" framing will I need a thicker board? Not sure about topper for the board. Probably go with whats available.

RJ/Charlie Brown I made my framing using 2"x4" for my legs and basically 3/4" by 2 1/2" ( stripping ) For my framing and put 3/4" plywood for top and it will hold me with out giving at all and I weigh 280LBS. I'm presently walking and crawling all over it as its 8' x 16' oh I put the 2"x4" legs about every 4' go from front to back and every 2' left to right as I had Lowe's cut my plywood in half because it wouldn't fit in the car ( man I miss my truck lol. )

Morning all at work so need to run just a quick stop by to say hi

Did you top the plywood with anything?

So Far just green Carpet about 1/4" thick from Lowe's. Have to do some other things before I start screwing the track down I also plan on putting liquid tape(I think its called its for insulation around electrical its black in a small jar) on my screws as it seems to help insulate the sound from track to the plywood will get correct name tomorrow for you I do the whole screw let it dry then screw it in.

RJ. Look at these and give me a PM with questions. 1/2" plywood is fine if you are on 2' centers with the top supports.

Evening all was going Thur what I have for sale and have misplaced to items up for sale so had to remove them from the listings. that's okay when I find them will list them again. finally getting some organization in the train room and I now have a 8' X 16' Train table to fill lol.

Not much else going on right now.

trying to figure out a way to have 5 loops 3 will be connected together the other 2 will be conventional one may have a TPC-300 hooked to it. The one that is super O track. Think the best thing to do is work one loop at a time to get everything where I want it as shooting this one from the hip but that's how I like to do it.

Ohayƍ,

It’s about lunchtime so I’m taking a moment at work to post.  The workday has been moving along and I have my annual dental checkup this afternoon.  I watched the ladies championship game yesterday morning.  I don’t think you could actually call it a game as UCONN embarrassed UL; I almost felt like they should have had a mercy rule.  I’m not sure what the UL coach told his players afterwards as I’m sure they were very demoralized.  I hope they quickly realize there are more important things in life, but they are just kids so I’m sure it was very tough to take.

Happy Birthday Spankybird!

Jack – My wife tells me she leaves all the lights on because she knows I enjoy turning them off. ConfusedLaugh

RJ – We lived in Enid before moving here to Japan.  My wife has plenty of family in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, OKC, and Muskogee.  If you need to stand on your layout then follow RT’s advice.  If you do not plan to stand on it then ½” will be sufficient, or if the bracing is extremely solid then maybe even ¼” will work.  Even though you may not need to stand on it, you want to make sure it doesn’t sag in any places.  I’m pretty sure I used ¼” when I built tabletop benchwork for our layout in OK, but my framing/bracing was spaced pretty close together so I had no sag issues and I did not have to stand on it.  If your layout is not very deep then you shouldn’t have to stand on it.  I used 1” blue foam on top of my plywood as that’s all my local Lowe’s had.  It worked well and made doing scenery easier.

Brent – I remember that photo.  I had some good ones of our two boys watching the trains this past Christmas too.  What are the dimensions of your platform?  It fits nicely into that corner.

dougdagrump – I hope you can share photos of your latest project.  I’m always fascinated by small O layouts.

Ryan – You redeemed yourself with your last scrapple comment. Yes I hope everything on the home front continues to improve and work itself out.  I’ll be praying for you both.

Sayonara,

Joe

Had a crappy day today at work. Went in at 5am just to not get our issues resolved. Then went on a service call and I think the only thing that didn't get wet were my socks. It is getting into the thirty's tonight. At least the rain quite for now. It supposed to start again Thursday afternoon. We already have flooding all over.StormUmbrella

I have a service call first thing in the morning and interference hunting after that.

Guess my layout might be on hold for the time being ... need to pay taxes instead. At least I can get furniture moved and my track laid down temporarily. Plus it will give me time to replace some of the 027 track I have with 0.

Good night all form the thumb of Michigan.

Prayers to my family and any others in the St Louis and Ofallon area of Mo.

RJ/Charlie Brown I made my framing using 2"x4" for my legs and basiclly 3/4" by 2 1/2" ( stripping ) For my framing and put 3/4" plywood for top and it will hold me with out giving at all and I weigh 280LBS. I'm presently walking and crawing all over it as its 8' x 16' oh I put the 2"x4" legs about every 4' go from front to back and every 2' left to right as I had lowes cut my plywood in half because it wouldn't fit in the car ( man I miss my truck lol. )

Morning all at work so need to run just a quick stop by to say hi

Did you top the plywood with anything?

WOW - big storm here in Saint Louis, though Arnold was spared damage.  Tornado damage to the North.  Prayers for John's daughter with her dog problem.  Prayers for all that need them.  Nothing much going on here lately.  Lots of stuff going on at work, some of it is even useful.  Had to call in the union to help us out on a problem, which was initially created by a union steward - ironic.  We'll see how it all works out.  After nearly 24 years there, I think I have an idea that things even out after a while and get better.  Bad ideas have a way of burning out.  Tardis is ready - we have peanut butter cookies, but don't give them to the dog.  SJ gave her one last night and she messed her doggie bed Sad

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
