Time to relax,

Mike C, Congratulations on your Soccer Boy's win.

AF53, Ray, Her reaction is that there is no OT.

Chief: All it takes is 1 who wants to play politics and forgets common sense.

Time to relax with my wife with a glass of wine, some cheese, crackers and pepperoni.

Tomorrow and Tuesday I have to drive 2+ hours to a class on water bourne paint.

Have a Great Night!

John

Good evening all,

It was cloudy in SE Indiana today.  Reffed the last youth soccer game of the season today.  It was a good one with the score being 5-3.  "My" soccer boys play at Centerville on Thursday for the first game of the Regionals.  Took it easy the rest of the day after reffing.  Busy day tomorrow for my day off.  TBIL and the victory barrel rolls will contnue some more.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Evening all got enough of the trim work done to put the big cabinet back where it belongs and the chest freezer also. I added 2 more shelves to the wall and thats about as far down as I can go with it. Still plan to build a work bench/cabinet the 6' I have from the freezer to the doorway. That will be storage.

Did make one mistake thou that is I started displaying my trains and the wife goes how many train do you have I have never seen this many befor. ( and she still hasn't seen them all lol) Well she better get use to seeing them. Plan on building a few more shelves on a side wall to that wall to display the rest if I can. I figured I now have like 16 motorized units. and to a lot of you thats nothing I know. But to her thats too many lol.

Well thats about it for tonight time to head out of here have to work tomorrow.

Life's hard, even harder if your stupid  John Wayne

Didn't get much of a chance to work on the layout today. Too busy with family and watching my sisters, niece and their significant others working to clear the west wing of the house. I think they're realizing what a task they've set for themselves. Even that side of the house on it's own is huge. My whole trailer (8x25) could fit in the kitchen with room to spare!

Time for me to call it a night. I have a doctors appointment in the morning. General physical. I should be back to my duties on the forum no later than noon. See y'all tomorrow.

Aloha. Looks like a fine weekend for Mike C. - Congrats on a big win for your boys. And 2 big wins for SJ's Tigers.  Laz, Francona looks like a good hire for the Tribe.

We've had a leave and misc. burn ban for years - it seems it was put in less for allergies than fire safety - folks were inadvertently burning their homes.... Surprise  I have fond memories, like Jack, of raking gigantic piles of leaves to jump in, then dragging huge bundles off to dump in the woods.  Our home is the one with the biggest trees so there's lots of leaves. Ben can't wait for them to all fall.

Nice to hear from Roy!

Bob,

Funds and PM sent Saturday. Thanks.

RT,

I keep thinking about flipping stuff too.  The Texas Special 2245 F3s, one set of SF 2343s, and a 313 might be on the way out of here.  Need $$ for a set of BBK Tuned Length Shorty Headers.Wink

Kev,

I was looking at the completed listing for the ZW and LW you won.  Looks like the ZW was well worth the cost by itself.  A few $$ for a light overhaul and it should be good to go.  I'd suggest changing all four rollers just to be safe.  Just don't make the mistake I did and deface it with one of those hideous repro nameplates.Ick!

Tried to post earlier, but the software did it's thing.  I wish tomorrow wasn't a "holiday"Confused, because i've got stuff that needs to go out, and tomorrow would be the most convienent day.

The next project should be here soon, and I am excited to see what shape it is in.

RT - too funny!  Char started counting the tubs down in the basement one day and I quickly lead her away as she started asking questions I didn't want to answer Laugh

We got the bid on the wall from the company I really wanted to use and it's like $3K more than we are ready to spend.  I went over the bid with the guy a while and it seems like it's a fair offer, to be honest.  Thinking about redesign or just use that money to pay for new flooring for the basement and upstairs in the house, finish ceilings in the basement, etc. Do a wall a few years from now?  I really don't want to plunder our savings with a possibility of no pay or slow pay in January etc?  We have 10K from our refi that is only for use on the house, the rest is in my kids' mouths.  I think the wall will have to go in the "dream deferred" column for now.  Oh well, finished basement and floors means layout comes sooner - that's a good thing, right?

TARDIS is ready, so let's fly!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Sunny, but cooler.  Leaves are starting to turn.

I got the portable train tables down into the dining room yesterday.  We've got the halloween layout started for next week's program at the museum.  Found one oddity.  While I was test running the Hallow's Eve locomotive, I was getting a random (and really annoying) whistle.  I thought that it might be caused by the second power supply I was using for the grimm reaper crossing guard, so I took it out of the picutre.  Still had random triggering of the whistle.  Then I noticed that the LED headlights on the locomotive were on, when the throttle on the CW80 I am using was off.  I swapped to a different CW80, and the problem dissapeared.

GO TIGERS!

I was working on the gravestones for the layout's cemetery while I was watching Talledega.  There is nowhere to go when you are running three wide in a pack and the leaders get loose - talk about the big one!

Got to go tire shopping this week.  Found a sheet metal screw in one of the tires on the minivan.  I was able to put a plug in it, so it will be serviceable unitl we get it replaced.

Brutus - our anneversaries seem to be close to each other.  Ours is Oct. 6,  When is yours?

Condolances for losses, and prayers for healing.

All for now.

Aloha. Paradise. A brisk 35 degrees out in the sun. Happy Columbus Day to those who have a vacation day. I got a good parking spot at the station, but there were a lot of people on the train. Downtown seems empty. Must be all the government workers since many of the banks are open. Nice chat with Charlie, SJ and Brutus last night on the TARDIS. Laz, how 'bout them Bears? Smile

Like it is with BOC, my grass has a lot of white stuff on it this morning and the cat is in his igloo.

Hey any of you who want to relive you childhood dreams (like DougM and RIJack) of raking and burning leaves are Welcome to come on out and have at it. We got plenty. Maybe I should siplock bag some smoke and sell it to you guys.Laugh

JimT, I hope your right on that ZW. I plan on taking it to the same guy I had go over the one I got from The Chief. He is only 35 miles away and Ken will do a nice job for a fair price. Check his site, he tells what he will do to it in the listing. When he did the one I got from Chief he put a nice used original nameplate on it.   http://www.lioneltransformers.com/

RT & Brutus, My wife opened her eyes when I brought home the third set of storage shelves from Manards and filled it to the top the same day. Surprise

8N, How about sharing some pictures of that Halloween layout? Sounds nice.

Well got to go test drive a 2011 Siliverado Z71. Who knows??

Prayers for alll in need. Angel

Good Morning everyone!

Off today for Columbus Day, nice! A cool 49 going up to 57 with a chance of showers. Great ninth inning win for the Yankees last night. Ended a bit past midnight. The O's played real well, they just came apart in the ninth. Buck has them playing great and it seems there's a bit of magic in their team this year.

Spanky - Nice banner and keep up with the good news!

BOC - Happy Thanksgiving Day, nothing beats the smell in the house as a Turkey Day dinner is being cooked. Brings back great memories.

RT, Brutus & Kev - These stories about our shelves and trains are great. When I come home with the shelving boards in the back of my Suburban my wife looked at that and said " what's all that wood for?" It wasn't the words that caused me to laugh it was the look on her face. Precious!

These are my shelves. I underestimated the amount I needed as I have too many boxed away. There are also three trains on my layout.

Good Morning!

Never enough time to post all the thoughts as a result of reviewing posts here!  Soooo much to comment on!  (Great shelves, need to have a couple "spare tubs" stacked in each other just as displays, "Honey a lot of them are empty, and some just have cardboard boxes")

Efforts about to drop Talledaga from the Cup Chase???  Hmmm it was stock car racing at one time, soon will be nothing more than a video game.

Yesterday at the park was fine, except for the Bushing on the King Pin, for the pilot truck breaking.  After review by the mechanics it was determined it would be ok for the DAY!  (Let the pilot wheels move more horizontally than just vertical.)  Also found on some interesting information.  I thought "Engineering Training" was initiated by the supervisor.  And since a "required" reading list has been assigned to me, that I would need to complete at least a portion of the list, prior to "in-Cab" training.  (About three engineers have asked me if I wanted to give it a try in the Right Seat.  I declined not wanting to get anyone in trouble.  Last night I found out that that is not how it works.  In-Cab training begins when ANY certified engineer has determined that they "feel" you are ready!  Then, you need to have about 10 trips with 3 people in the cab, (Certified Engineer, Certified Fireman, and Engineer trainee.)  After 10 trips, then as long as their is a Certified Engineer, (typically Firing) then the trainee, (minimum Certified Fireman) can switch seats.  After a minimum of 100 trips the trainee is eligible for Certification Testing.   Unusual, heh?

Yesterday, Chris' fraternity had a "Parents Day", so Kay was able to attend.  After I got off work. I joined them, we got a tour and demonstration at the Univeristy as well.  He showed us the Labs, and research he was doing.  Wow, was I ever impressed, intimidated, and proud.  He definitely has "leap frogged" his old man!  Leaving I told the wife, "Just to put things in perspective, after seeing what he is doing, then tomorrow I will go and spend the day "Driving the Goose". Laugh

Hope everyone has a great day !  Stay healthy and God Bless !

Good Mornin' Y'all from Partly Sunny But Not Raining Taxachusetts,

Got down to 43 last night, the coldest so far this Fall.  Like Chuck, it will top out here in the mid 50s today with rain on tap later in the afternoon.  We will be celebrating Maximus' 4th birthday today......started by mixing some baked chicken in with his food this morning.  Happy B-Day

This past weekend the guy from Rhode Island who a week ago set a world's record with his 2,009 pound pumpkin at the Topsfield (MA) Fair now owns the two top slots.  Although the pumpkin he showed elsewhere this past weekend did not top his 1 ton pumpkin, it still was pushing 1,900 pounds!!

This past weekend was way too busy.  Early Saturday morning the wife and I (and Maximus) ventured out to the 4H fairgrounds in Westford MA and watched dog "protection sports" competitions.  One of our trainers got top obedience honors and titled his dog.  Didn't get home until past 9 PM. Yesterday we attended a wedding for a couple who have been good friends of ours for a long time......only took them 15 years to tie the knot.  The reception food was over the top with steak and lobster as the dinner and hors deuvres theme.  At the reception I must have covered 10 miles of running, walking, and blocking while policing my youngest granddaughter (3) from escaping the reception hall as there were too many entrance/exit doors.  I figured as the evening wore on she would run out of gas....which didn't happen.  She must be nuclear powered.   Brent, you are in deep doo-doo with Christina.  BTW, wifey and I did not get home until after 10PM last night.......and the coffee kept me up until 2AM.Bang Head

Peyton Manning and Tom Brady can really put on a show, never fail to keep one on the edge of the seat. Thumbs Up

Chief.....our town only picks up paper bagged leaves left at the curb one time in the Fall (later in October).  Otherwise, one is left on their own to haul the bagged leaves to a dedicated edge of town compost dump.  There is one scheduled pickup in the Spring as well.  Otherwise, a homeowner has to mulch, compost, or blow the leaves into the woods etc. if they have the property size to do it.

BOC......happy belated Thanksgiving.  Hope your overstuffed belly and the triptopan helped you doze off during the NASCAR race, the baseball playoffs, and the football games.

8N........happy belated anniversary to you, and condolences to your bride! Whistling

Brutus......as disappointed as you may be putting off the retaining wall, I think in the grand scheme of things you are smart to focus on the house and the eventual train room.

MikeC........congrats on your boys' sectional win and good luck in the regionals!!!! Thumbs Up

KEV.......we'll be right over to help you with cleaning up your leaves.  No need to send us a smoke sample to give us our fix. Whistling

SJ........you must be pumped over your Tigers' weekend performances.  And Chuck and LAZ, Terry Francona is highly competent, a winner, and a class act.  You won't be disappointed.

Jeff.....good luck at your Doc appointment today.  While you are otherwise engaged, we will wreak havoc here. Smile, Wink & Grin

RT.......methinks your train related activities of late bring into question your mental state and this death wish you have going. Laugh

ROY........you have been one busy guy.  Glad you are back! Thumbs Up

AF Ray.......thanks so much for thinking of me by sending an application to the NY Yankees fan club.  I am running low on paper to use starting fires in the fireplace. Whistling

Don........your son Chris continues to make you proud.  Thumbs Up

Later, gang.

A good sports weekend for me. Lot's o wins. Even the Tigers have won 2 in a row and the lions were undefeated(they didn't play). We spent the morning and your hard earned SS money at the grocery store. Pickup still needs gas though...S.J.

Wanna bet?Laugh Doctor appointment went well. I got there early so there weren't many ahead of me and got in and out quickly. Stopped by Wal-Mart to get a few items. Loaf of bread, jar of peanut butter, two jars of sliced olives (gotta have my olives) and a small can of black pepper. I was back home before 10am.

V8Vega

One of the things I do each morning is read all the topics on the forum I think I would be interested in. Then today mow the lawn, then I have to take my unrully Border Collie to the vet. as he has a swollen ear. I probably will have to wait outside as he carries on so if there is any other dogs inside. Also some idoit thought it was a good idea to glue the rear view mirror to the windshield on GM cars and I'm afraid he will knock it off. I have had no luck gluing it back on with the expensive glue for that purpose sold in auto parts stores. Cheap Quick Grip glue from Walmart has held it on for awhile now. I'll take the Prelude instead now that I think about it.

V8......I think you are wise waiting outside the vet's office until you can just walk in and straight into an examining room.  I have walked a mile in your shoes.  I used to just go into the vet's building without the dog and tell them to call me on my cell when it was my turn, that I'd be outside in the car.  Then I would peek inside on my way in to see if the coast was clear.  If  it wasn't, I had the vet staff announce to those waiting it would be best to give me a wide birth AND for the others in the waiting room to get a complete grip on their own dogs.  the staff appreciated my caution and would announce "If you don't respect this guy and his dog's space, bad things will happen!!!"  Laugh

Most of the folks in the waiting room are clueless.  They erroneously assume everyone's dog is friendly because they THINK theirs is.  Then they do something extremely stupid.  At least there are vets there to stitch up all the dogs and bitten people.  Eventually my wife and I got that monster dog of ours under control, and he would just obey and lay down quietly awaiting his turn, despite the poor behavior of the other dogs in the examining room.  We muzzled him just in case, but in retrospect it wasn't necessary.

Re riding with your pup in the car, go out and buy a car harness for your dog.  They have a loop on the top that you slip the seat belt through.  So if you get into an accident, YOU are safe and so is your dog. Maybe $15 or so available at any pet supply store.  Keeps all the dog mess confined in the back seat.  And if you hit something you won't get hit by a flying 40-45 pound projectile, your dog.

I hate it that we have to walk on eggshells for fear of saying the wrong thing even though your carefull. Maybe its just as well as I am just terrable arguing about politcs even though I am extremely partisan. I can argue about politics on the Fiero form but never do although many others do and sometimes I add a wise comment.

We don't have to walk on eggshells.  If you notice, all I do is make subtle wise guy comments when it comes to politics and the other top controversial topics.  I never feel compelled to call it as I see it or try to convince someone else of my opinion.  They have theirs and won't listen to me anyway.  I have also found that my wife and I actually don't agree on everything either.  Imagine that!!!  Whistling

Good morning all,

Went for a 30 minute walk this morning which is good for me.  Discovered a stupid mistake at breakfast.  I have been using a non fat cream cheese spread for toast but picked up the wrong one at the market which is reduced fat but still way over my limit.  Made me mad because I am knocking myself out otherwise to get my triglyceride numbers down.  Oh well, I'll just go back and get the right one.

V8, I try to stay away from talking politics and religion on here.  Can't afford to lose anymore friends.  Seems like politics are so polorized nowadays anyway.  No room for compromise.

Went to TTOS train meet yesterday which was well attended but did not buy anything.  One guy had some Fastrack on his table asking 2.50 per section for curves and $65 Ea. for switches.  I guess that's a good price?

Picking up things in the yard anticipating possible rain this week but will really be surprised if it's no more than a drizzle.

Doctor appointment tomorrow with my gastrointerologist.  Just a check up I hope.  Don't think I need any colonoscopies or endoscopy exams.  Just had the former one recently.

Chief, didn't know you were losing garden space with the box.  You're probably down to your last 40 acres of tomato growing area.

Don, I'm sure you will pass all the test for engineer qualification when the time comes.  When I hired out, no federal license was required.   Now it is.

Saw an interesting TV show yesterday about the history of aviation on Catalina Island.  All about the seaplanes that used to fly over there from the mainland.  They had a big four engine job at one time called the mother goose and some smaller two engine planes called the goslins.  Nowadays, I think the only air service is by helicopter.  They have fast boats now to take passengers.  The big white steamer SS Catalina is long gone and was cut up for scrap after sitting on the bottom of the harbor in Encinata, Mexico some time ago.

later,

Ray

That should work for a while. I have one too and think it's just great. What brand is the one you got? Mine's a Vizio.

Hello all

Just got my ears lowered and about time, was getting kinda hairy.

Worked a bit on the '65 hardtop w/ my friend yesterday. Replaced the oil pan gasket. Changed the oil and "special" filter that kept two harmonic balancer outer rings from coming offSurprise Also gave him the set of dual glasspacks off the car for his new '65 convertable. Put on a quiet single muffler which I like much better. The glasspacks were entertaining for about 10 minutes. Need to make a slight adjustment to the muffler bracket as it is rubbing on something.

A couple looked at the house yesterday. If this all works out I should be moved by Oct. 24.

BOC - the engine going in the van is clean and fairly tight it would seem. Due to time and financial pressures I'm following the old adage of "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Bank - thoughts and prayers

Mike - congrats!

Jim T - got the payment. Thanks.

Kev - my first 4WD was a '79 Chevy LUV. Not a powerhouse, but a tough little truck. One of our cops just got a new Tahoe. I was impressed by the engine setup. It's a 30something" I think.

Ray - nice collection!

Anybody heard from Joe D.?

Off to try and finish up the motorcycle so I can get it out of the garage.
