Jeffrey, Congratulations !   you don't have time to go back and read the early postings do you?  And, they aren't really available are they?  It would just be a waste of time anyway.

I spend my time on the here and now mostly. I usually go back and look at what happened while I was offline. There's plenty I want to do on my layout and I use some of the time for that. I also have family matters to attend to.

Mornin' Fellas

Spanky - The news about Tyler is beyond words outstanding! This was much needed good news for the weekend!

Jeffery - Thank you for volunteering your services... can we talk politics now? Wink

Tonight I have to watch Christina while TheQ finishes her studying/prep work for her certification exam tomorrow. Need some prayers for this one fellas because if she doesn't pass she'll be studying a bunch between now and next April! If she passes it could open a lot of doors for her career.

Just received word yesterday that the company has cancelled our offsite meeting for 10/18-10/19... So now I hope to be able to make it to York on Friday... keep your fingers crossed... will be the first time I have to stand in line to get my pass... Bang Head

Big plans for the weekend. Hope to get some work done on the layout while Christina naps tomorrow, and may take her into town for a train store visit. The fellas haven't seen her in a while and I after I get done on the layout what I want to get done tomorrow I should have a scenery order to place...

Good morning all,

Cloudy and cooler in SE Indiana with temps in the 50s.  DJ, Great news about Tyler!!!  "My" soccer girls played well but got pounded 6-0 to end the season.  I told them before to walk off the field after the game with heads up and no tears until the sideline and that is what they did.  Saturday will be soccerific as I ref 3 youth tourney games ( no pressure there) and watch "my" soccer boys play for a sectional title.  Hopefully they will win in regulation.  Do not want to scare anybody with talk of "shootouts" and "sudden death". Sunday I will ref the title game of the youth tourney as well.  Monday I get to rest as we have Columbus Day off.  Glad to see Dennis W. back.  TBIL and if the boys win Saturday, there will be major partying on the Tardis that night.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

DJ, Great news for Tyler!!!!   Yes

Well the bottom has fallen out on the temps. Got up to 80 yesterday but won't get out of the 60s today in North Central IL.

Got to do some shopping for my daughter, she wants me to pick up a tool kit for the FSIL. It seems that the two year old grandaughter is putting all sorts of things where they should not be and Dan has no tools to get them back. Laugh

Train news:

I have been looking for another transformer for the layout because I have used up all of the options on the ZW and CW80. And with the up comming addition to the layout I fiugered I had better start looking.

So I bid on a ZW and LW last night on the bay and got them both for $89.88. Hope they are good. Tongue Tied If not there is a good transformer guy in Shorewood who can do any repairs they need.

Got to run.

Prayers to those in need. Angel

Good Mornin' Y'all From Dreary Foggy and Still Wet Taxachusetts,

To start, the news here on the POT was a good pick-me-up this morning.

It is always nice to be able to step back and pull myself out of a funk over matters in life that don't really matter that much. They will only be replaced by other similarly less important things.  I have to work at letting more things role off my back.  A woman at dog training last night noted that my glass is always at least half full, that I seem to dwell on the positive.  I hope that is so.  Many of us ARE so influential in our families whether we realize it or not, not necassarily by what we say but what we do.  We can wallow, or we can make things happen, the things we CAN control.  As my Dad (RIP) always said with a smile on his face and tongue in cheek, "Cheer up. Things will get worse!" Whistling

Spanky.......your great news on Tyler this morning, that he is making such good progress, that he is coming home, was the first thing that struck me.  In the face of some pretty daunting developments the past couple of weeks, plus a logistical nightmare thrown in for good measure, you and your wife somehow found the strength as a couple to PLAN and then EXECUTE, to change gears in a way that had positive IMPACT and yet kept life as normal as possible for Tyler, Corey, and yourselves.  May God continue to bless and to guide you and your family as you overcome any and all obstacles in the weeks and months ahead. Thumbs UpAngel.

BOC.......prayers that yesterday's CT test result bears the fruit you have been working towards (again) for these many months.  Your continuous sense of humor and perspective in the midst of uncertainty is an inspiration to the rest of us.  Now go eat something sinful and fattening. Thumbs UpAngel

Brutus........those of us on the POT who have followed your story realize your wife and your family have had some deep valleys and outright craters to climb out of the past three years.  It is great to read that Hannah's sprained knee is the biggest medical item on your "home" plate this morning.  And prayers that your Mom continues to make progress. Thumbs UpAngel

Chuck and DougDG......you guys gave us quite a scare the past year ot two.  It is great this morning to find both of you with the same nemeses, the Cleveland Indians and the total mess they call the State of California.  And MikeC, you too have had a pretty good track record of getting hits in the clutch, though it may not seem that way this morning.  I think you are batting 1.000 in life's shootouts.  Angel

Lest we forget, RIP NAVYJACK. Angel

I don't mean to single anyone out here or to place a lesser importance on the challenges the rest of us have faced or are facing, whether it be jobs, health, or family crises.  It is just comforting for me to realize that I am like everyone else here, that I have folks to help show me the way, even when I get frozen in fear or uncertainty.

It's 57 and cloudy.

We have our youngest grandsons today. Their other grandfather past away late yesterday. Mom didn't want to send them to school. From what I've seen so far they would have been just fine. And I would have been better off as well. Believe me there's nothing wrong with these two. HELP

S.J.

EDIT: They have been here 30 minutes and we had to separate them into different rooms already.

Good morning. It's 76° heading to 88°. Humidity is 76%. About as interesting as a root canal.

Went to my parents place for breakfast this morning and had some face time with my younger sister and her significant other. I think I may get some work done on the grain elevator today. I need to study some photos and see what pieces go where. The closest I've ever been to one was about two hundred yards in a heavy thunder storm. Yeah, didn't see much. I'll also be looking in on the forum to see what mod duties I have to attend to. Other than that there's not much going on. Looks like the sale of my parents house isn't going to take place as soon as we thought. Stupid bank has had the paper work supposedly ready to go for a couple of months but didn't bother scheduling the termite inspection until this last Tuesday. The guy showed up yesterday. Couldn't find any termites but said a treatment was going to cost $3,000. If there are no termites why the heck does it need a treatment. It seems that termites or no it needs a treatment. Sure frosted my fathers butt. He more or less told the guy to pack up his stuff and get out. Time to get a second opinion.

Greetings Again from Sunny and Warming Taxachusetts,

OK.  Someone upstairs flipped a switch and graced me with crystal clear skies and a couple of hours of sunshine until the clouds and thunderstorms return this afternoon.

HudsonJohn.....that is some really good news on your MOM, and I hope this trend continues.  If you are not too busy, some of us would appreciate it if you would do our laundry too.  We can ship it to you in boxes so you can camouflage the incoming train shipments from your wife.  "Just more laundry from the Chief, dear!"

Speaking of the Chief, the other day you took out part of your arsenal and a whole bunch of ammo but never told us what you did with it.

Fife......I agree.  Soccer is way too violent a sport with things like "shootouts" and "sudden death."  MikeC should change his sports interests to something more refined, cerebral, safe, and cultured......like pro football.

Jeffrey.......should we be referring to you as "Sir Jeffrey"  from now on?  How many strikes do we get before you declare "You're outa here!!!!?

RaySP......that was some pretty good news on your new, healthier lifestyle plan.  Slow and steady wins the race.  Seeking perfection never works.  Neither does deprivation.  I like to substitute my greater vices with lesser ones.  .

DougDG.......thank you for the link to your train club and the Halloween-themed festivities that EARNED a spot on your local TV.  Let me know when that KUSO newscaster Alexis plans to do a follow-up, this time with her showing up in person to check things out for herself.  We need to check her out.

BOB.........the mountains in Fall.  Must be quite the sight.  Was glad to hear the Corvair is running strong.  How is it doing against the rust wars after 4+ decades?  And how does it like unleaded, pump fuel?

DonB/V8.......don't think our Winter blend fuel here exceeds 10% ethanol by volume.  Don't feel too bad.  Our gas prices here are still climbing, up another dime os so in the past week, about $.50 a gallon more expensive now versus the same time last year.  The politicos here of whom 87% in the legislature are of one particular political persuasion will sooner or later deem it appropriate to jack our gas taxes again......yesterday part of a bridge fell on a passing motorist's car, and the State said it was not the State's fault, even though they are responsible for the maintenance and (dis)repair.  Think we have 250 bridges in Taxachusetts that are in need of repair or replacement.  Re the layout adventure, methinks your buddy Bob, or his wife, has some strange notions about that layout carpeting.  According to my calculations, it comes out to about $90 per square yard!  What is it made out of, silk?  For a layout material that will have to withstand zero traffic (wear), I don't get it.  Unless his wife is going to steam clean it to death weekly for the next couple of decades and wear it out that way.  On a related note, didn't you point out a couple of weeks ago that medical marijuana situation is out of control in California?  Wonder if the layout and the medical marijuana items are related.

BRUTUS........how romantic!!!!  New cell phones for your 18th anniversary gift?!?  That would go over here in my domicile like a lead balloon.  Happy anniversary to you and Char anyway!  Your comment on your Kevin's new jacket brought back fond memories.....clothes parents buy in October that are outgrown by Chrisrmas.

V8........I think you should be a true leader and visionary here, go out and buy a 100% electric car.  You may not be able to drive very far, but at least you will be able to say that you are helping to worsen the California smog problem by pushing up the demand for increased electric generation.  Don't you CA guys already have restrictions on the use of leaf blowers and charcoal BBQ grills to reduce air pollution?  Your electric toothbrush and dustbuster may be next on the chopping block.

8N.......you clever fiend.  Beating the wife to the "anniversary" punch.  The best defense is a good offense. Let us know how it works out, and CONGRATUALATIONS on #33!!!!!

RT.........you NEED all of that OT because you have totally misconstrued the primary objective behind buying and selling trains on the BAY.  You're supposed to flip stuff, not keep it all.  Pretty soon you won't be able to finish laying that floor because of all of the train boxes piling up.  The walls in the prospective train room can only hold so much shelving weight.

SJ........stop mowing your lawn so much!  You are making the rest of us look bad and feel guilty.  And KEV, why don't you just blow all of those leaves into the netherlands off the downwind perimeter of your property instead of burning them?

KEV........Brian is getting off easy with the truck repairs.  Just a deductible?  You guys are pretty fortunate you didn't wind up with that deer in the front seats with you.  A couple of years back on the highway, just 3 miles from here, the same thing happened to a woman, but she was not as fortunate.  The deer was listed as her cause of death.

BRENT.......is that four or five times around her little finger that Christina has you wrapped?!  I lost count.  Ain't parenthood great?  You are blessed.  Good luck to the Q on her certification test.

LAZ.........do they make white barbed wire to put on top of that vinyl fencing you are putting up to keep that nosy neighbor at bay?

DENNIS.......you and your wife are outnumbered, and the children are now playing with a two man advantage.  Three if you count the dog. What is your new strategy?

DougM.........are you in the hunt for a puppy yet?  I'll bet you miss your dog terribly.

Later, gang.

Jack

I would like a sawmill on my layout as I grew up in southern Oregon in the hey day of logging and small sawmills were everywhere. As a boy I was fasinated by the sawmills, There mostly gone now, I think big mills took them all over. But that would require many huge Douglas Firs. I also have learned to love the desert here so it will probably be desert..

V8 Dennis.

I have a K-Line Operating Sawmill with smoke and spinning saw on my layout. Looks nice and old fashioned. It also does not take up a lot of room. The part number is  K-42450. I got mine on E- bay for $71.00  With Shipping. You can still find them now and then.  It comes with logs and a O gauge log car.

Here is a link to one on E-bay

I like it that Jrffery always answeres questions.

I find it's easier to supply a simple answer than let people think I'm trying to cover something up or ignore them. Nor am I going to lie to them. When something looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck I call it a duck as it's obviously not a goose.

I think you right about that John. I was told the same thing about it. Something about they gave it as a gift because they did not deliver on some sort of Engine offering. I like mine and the grand-kids love the inside light, spinning saw and the smoke. Wink

Lunch is over and I picked up a tool kit for the Future SIL as instructed by the daughter. When I got back and pulled the truck into the garage it was raining ICE PELLETS. Surprise    Hope she forks over the $90.00 I spent on it. Tongue Tied

Tonight will be dinner at Red Lobster at 7:30 Dinner  but no free meal like I would be getting if I were the Chief.

Brutus congrats on the anniversary.   Yes  Sandra and i will be at 30 years on the 25th.

Aloha. Grey and cool. It says only 47 but it has to be higher than that. Kelly picked up Drew at college for a weekend home yesterday. His first college hockey game is tomorrow night.

Thrilled at Tyler's improvement!

Jack, I'll put up those musty, freezing hockey arenas against outside football (and soccer) in all sorts of weather. Big Smile  On second thought...

Brutus, enjoy the metal show tonight. Glad Char loves her anniversary phone (and like Jack said, that she's doing so well).

SJ, quick, those kids need the calming influence of televised cartoons!

Kev, that sawmill looks great. You're coming up on quite an anniversary. We're only at 23.

SPMan

Good morning all,

Third day on walking this morning went well.  I started off walking about 20 minutes each time and I will add to that as I progress.  Yesterday had a low carb diet mostly with oatmeal for breakfast, one piece of whole wheat toast, salad for lunch and assorted fruit and vegetables for snacks.  Had Chinese food for dinner but that is chicken and vegetables with a few boiled shrimp.  Not perfect but better than some of the stuff I have been eating prior to this. Using cauliflour for potato substitute sometimes.  Keeping bread to a minimum.  No deserts until I find out what is safe besides Jello.

Pat, re carbs, about the only guide I have is the South Beach Diet book which my old retired doctor suggested some time ago.  I don't have diabetes yet and don't want any but I have to change my ways.  My triglyceride number was 411 which is way up.  The doctor says if it goes over 500 it could kill you.

Jeffrey, congratulations on your moderating recognition.  I haven't seen it yet  I don't get MR but only CTT and OGR.

later,

Ray

Ray - Congratulations on using cauliflower as a potato substitute. Have you tried it in potato salad with Dukes Mayonnaise ( sugar free)? Whole wheat can be a problem for some. My wife can't tolerate the gluten in the wheat.  And watch out for the sugar that comes in many forms.

Pat

Home.  Mowed my heart  out.  My yard, sick neighbor's, neighbor's that is in CA for three weeks at son's wedding and neigbhbor up the street that has back problems.  Did get to shoot all my rifles.  ones zeroed are still right on.  Zeroed the red dot sight for the .40 cal Ruger, the Thompson Center Venture .223 with new scope and last but not least, the Remington 700 50th Aniv. edition 7 mm Remington mag.  Now that one will reach out and kill anything that walks in the Americas.  Now to clean and put up all the rifles.

First, got to mow [yes] grass here.  Concrete parking is full of Wifey's buds' cars.  They are at the lake house I cleaned "spick and span".

Great news about all the sick.

Off to get busy.

Re all of our respective anniversaries, I feel like a relative lightweight with only 24 years under my belt. But I also feel the first marriage qualifies me for hazardous, meritorious service, above and beyond the call of duty in a war zone.  I should get double credit years- wise and qualify for the marital Medal of Honor (of sorts) and a Presidential citation.  Just think of all of the men whom I saved from a fate worse than death..... for a while. Whistling.

Hello all

Ding Dong the Bus is Gone!!!!

A guy showed up from Phoenix around noon w/ a tow dolly and I was thinking, "this is the guy". We got the price I expected it was worth. He was happy. My friend was happy. I'm over-joyed and resolve to never touch another VWAutomobile. Corvair parking only.

Banks  - good news on your mom and dad and prayers for your uncle

Jeffrey - a Baldwin!? Way cool!

JimT - sent you a PM and incoming

Tinkering w/ the motorcycle today and trying to get that project wrapped up. Then we dive into the van. First it must roll (can be towed if necessary), then brakes would be nice, and if it actually starts, outstanding!

Currently we are here:

However, the oil pan has been installed since this picture was taken (and the MG sold)

Will be glad to.  First class ticket, you pickup and deliver to airport and room and board [now there is where it would really cost Whistling].

Good afternoon all,

I'm very late in the day getting on the forum.

Great news about Tyler!  Wonderful that he is coming home.

Don, told your story about the blow back to my friend who used to fire the engine at Knott's.  He said that never happened when he was there.  He must have been lucky.  Sounds like you're not the only one that has had it happen to.

Pat, No, I haven't tried to make potato salad with cauliflower yet but I remember you telling me about it.  I'll have to see if we get Dukes mayonaise in the stores here.  If not maybe there is another brand like it..

Had small get together last night with two of my train buddies.  Looked at train videos mainly.  One of them picked up some at a local railroad society sale for a buck apiece.

Gas prices are soaring here.  My local station has gone up over 40 cents a gallon since my last fill up.  Some talk in the news about switching over to the winter grade gas early instead of at the end of October because it is more available.  Several problems cited at the refineries for price hikes but I don't believe half of them.  Whatever it is, they take full advantage every chance they get.

Had my regular walk this morning and a low fat breakfast and lunch.  Trying to figure out what to do about dinner tonight.

later,

Ray

Doug cartoons are the thing. Once the house rules were reintroduced the boy's did fine. That along with Playstation , pizza, Mac & cheese I napped on the couch with the two of them in the same room at times. It has cooled off here and the 70s of yesterday may be a memory from now till March. Banilla is ready for the thingy but I don't know who my climb aboard tonight...S.J.

Jeffery - Thank you for volunteering your services... can we talk politics now? Wink

No more than you could before I don't think. The no-no list I looked at yesterday says definitely not. So I guess election coverage is out.Laugh

congratulations Jeffery. Been Awhile since I posted. Glad to your still around. They could use a Mod like you on the OGR forum to clean the mess up over there.

BTW, the grain elevator is looking nice. you have come a long way in the few years since I've been on

Good Evening

It has been a dull day here, with no rain, again. And now, a little Spring showed up and is currently headbunting me abouts the head here...lol!!

My day has been spent running abouts the countryside picking up gotta buys and doing gotta do's...and having a lot of hurry up and wait scenarios as well...loads of fun and games to be had here...

Bob:  That is one clean looking engine..did you check the block for any scoring/cracks and such?
