A Final Halloween 2012 Greetings To All,

We had 16 folks over for a very simple meal of beef stew and scala bread.  Candy for dessert and the adults were worse than the kiddies.  T or T with the kiddie.  Then some Halloween movies.  The weather was dry, in the 50s, and the winds were calm.

At least  75 kiddies showed up at our door in full costume, about the highest turnout we have ever had I think.  I was worried that we would run out of candy!  My 8 y/o granddaughter dressed up as Athena and the youngest as Minnie Mouse......daughter even went the distance with the makeup.  Little ones were so proud of their costumes and had a very good time. Thumbs Up  When Halloween falls on a weekday, it pretty well eliminates it being a late evening.

Candy menu included Baby Ruth, Butterfingers, Snickers, Milky Way, Three Musketeers, Kit Kat, large Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Almond Joy.  I'll have to assess the inventory decimation in the morning.  Of course, I thoroughly tested out the candy in advance to make sure it was safe. Whistling

The place looks like a bomb went off, and I'm too tired to worry about it. Laugh

Good night, ya'll.

Jack

Well the garage door repair with new spring and wires cost about $200, but it was well worth it to me.  I would have hurt myself for sure.  Made it through a day at work, but I sure am tired.  Char thinks she needs to see the doctor again, since she is still coughing a lot and has the drainage, but I think it's just running its course.  RT - prayers for Donna and you both.  We had a great chat with Doug and SJ tonight - hope everyone had a great Halloween!  TARDIS is ready and we have all kinds of chocolate candy, banilla, and root beer!  Let's go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

sir james I
It's 42 and wet.

65 and dry here!

*

It's been a somewhat restful day for me. The ankle isn't hurting quite as much now as it was in previous days. Tomorrow morning I have to go down and keep an eye on my mother and make sure she gets her meds. There's usually a private nurse that comes in every day and watches over her but she can't make it tomorrow for some reason or other. Tomorrow is the 1st so that means I also have to go into town to pay some bills and get gas. My legs going to be feeling bad after all that!

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Kev,

That torch likely would've helped, but I'd be afraid to use it given how little working room there is in that area.  My luck and torches aren't a good combo.Surprise

Now, if this involved the Sunfire I used to have, I'd be trying whatever I could with the torch to make it look like an accident.Smile, Wink & Grin

I called the vendor I bought the headers from, and they're more than happy to give me a refund once I send the headers back. Thumbs Up

Bang Head  This sucky software does not work for smartphones.  Goes righ to it and you can type.  Problem: can't read a thread over 10 posts without going to next page.  Can not go straight to the last post.  Well, when I posted from the lake house [which I do not know if it appeared here or on first page] there were 875 posts.  Well, 10 to the page.  Do the math to see how many pages I would have to go through to get to the last post. Thumbs Down SadConfused

Kev sorry about this am but I really thought you where heading union topic. Didn't have time to really goto and watch any videos today but did go and see what it was really about.

RT, don't get upset, I am good with it, we just don't agree, " What I love about the USA",  don't blow stuff up me about unions if you have not been there. I understand more than most that there are two sides. Been on both. I  was going to keep it all off line,,,,,,,,

I can and do head at times the union topic, but did not because I know you are on your own track, as many. As for union dues, I paid 1 to 2 hours a month into the union for 27 years and they covered my back side through 4 strikes, a 7 month lockout at $150.00 a month and then gave me $300.00 a month for 18 months when we had a strike in the early 90s. "After all that, there were NO winners."  I got all of my dues back and then some! It is just my experience man. A lot of you just don't know what you get is on the back of what happened in the past. God bless us all!

 End of rant.  SoapBox

You take care RT, I don't know your issues any better than you know mine. Wink I still hate to get mail from Cat. Surprise

 Cold and fireplace is running,

 Have a great night guys.

I know at times you guys  may not like or agree with me on things, and that is just fine with me, but blame the Chief for that. Laugh

Cloudy and dreary all day today.

For comparison, the gas prices here in Spain are something like 1.45 Euros per LITER.  Roughly 5.50 Euros per gallon, which is about $7.14 per gallon.  That is about what we were paying for high octane race gas a couple of summers ago.

All for now.

I'm paying about $3.75  a gallon for regular AND $4.00 FOR PREMIUM.

Yours are about as high as ours were about a week ago. Today cheapest regular is $3.50 and cheapest premium is $3.79.

Jack,

I didn't think you'd be that close to Danvers.  If you get gas at a Mobil station in the area, you've probably dealt with my friend.  I might be flying up there next spring/summer.  It's too early to know for sure though depending on the job situation.

Spent 12.5 hours on the Mustang yesterday, and I am right back where I started.Dots - Sign  Got the midpipe down, then I discover that all the bottom nuts on both manifolds are rusted tight to the studs.Bang Head  No amount of various penetrating oils and gentle pressure did any good.  I stopped there because the last thing I need is broken studs.  If there is one thing I've learned, it is to not push my luck with this type of situation.  All top studs/nuts were clean and loosened easily.

Good morning all,

Glad to hear that most of you survived Sandy well.

Got a call from sister in Virginia yesterday who told me they found a blockage in her colon and were unable to do a colonoscopy right then.  She is arranging for surgery to remove it whatever it is.  Test are negative so far for cancer but doctor is still suspicious.

Sisters in Connecticut are OK from storm I was told by my brother but have not talked to them yet.

Went to foot doctor this morning for regular appointment.  No new problems and just got a toe nail trim to prevent ingrown toenails.  Asked him about old orthotics I wear in my shoes wheather I need new ones or not.  He said they look fine to him and if it works, don't fix it.  Local sport shoe store tried to sell me some fancy walking shoes for big bucks and gave me a lot of bum information.  My doctor is on to them.

All set for Halloween tonight but don't expect a lot of kids.  Most activity takes place at a nearby park near here now.  They have a Halloween carnival set up with booths and games plus a bon fire supervised by the fire department.  Most of the big kids go there and we just get a few little ones with their parents in tow.  A lot different when I was a kid.  We were not used to having much candy so we loaded up on Halloween with enough to last a long time.  We used to get full size Hershey bars sometimes in those days which was a real treat.  We were out from just about dark until midnight.  Would not think of kids doing that now nor would it be safe probably.

Ray

Cheapest gas at the cheapest station is finally back down to $3.99 a gal, from a recient high of $4.67 and was over $5. at many stations Even though the big storm is as far from us as possible and still be in the mainland I suppose they will use the storm as a reason to raise the price back up. Our state capital demands a summer blend different than the gas used in any other state so if supplies get a little low they can't bring in gas from neighbor states so the price go's up. Man I hate our state goverment.

Dennis.........A lot of areas in the East are without power and can't even pump gas!!!!!!!!!Surprise  The outages were down to about 3+ million "customers" as of 6AM this morning according to the news.  Wish the prices of our gas dropped AS MUCH AS YOURS.  It has dropped about $.20 per gallon.  I'm paying about $3.75  a gallon for regular AND $4.00 FOR PREMIUM.  Bang Head

Extremely Glad to see everyone seems to have faired well from Sandy!  (Seems to be a long reach for her to get to So. Cal. Hmm )

Spent yesterday cleaning and sorting UNDER the train layout.  Preparring to do some additional wiring for some MORE lights.  Will post on another thread pictures when I have them.  (don't want to clog things up here, found out they REALLY make it difficult for smart phones, etc.  Creates too many pages to have to scroll through.  Possibly a cause of lower participation?)

Hope everyone has a great Day!

Good Mornin' Y'all From Post Sandy Cape Ann Taxachusetts,

Angel for those who suffered any damage and/or lasting effects.  Beyond the yard debris, I was very lucky.  I was glad to observe that Rich and HudsonJohn made it through safe and sound.

Thumbs Up Banks......take lots of pictures of the little one!!!  You are blessed.

Hope Spanky's family and little Tyler are OK  Angel

Fife........I thought you outgrew your bikini.  Surprise

Left Coasters......Sandy will be hitting you next, snow and hurricane-force winds forecast for Southern California. WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

I'm off to the grocery store.  Halloween festivities with the grandchildren and friends/families on the docket for this evening.  Neighbors don't show up any more, got tired of inviting some we have been friends with for a long time and they always wind up as no-shows.  It is sad to say that this annual Halloween tradition we have celebrated/hosted in our home for the past 25 years may become extinct, attendance dwindling.  Everyone's children are grown up and the number of grandchildren either too sparse or also moving up in age. Sad  Need to start recruiting.  We seem to be competing with all of the schools who throw organized indoor events.  The kids and their parents are all becoming wimps, taking the easy way out.

Trick or treat candy supply is missing in action, can't imagine where it all went!! Whistling  Like DougM.....our vicinity towns have scheduled trick or treat hours, 5PM-8PM. Sad  I can remember when I was a yute, if Halloween fell on a weekend, we would start ringing doorbells before noon on Halloween (unbeknownst to our parents) but were not very well received.  Then we kept it up till either 9PM or we ran out of gas, whichever came first, canvassing neighborhoods like a herd od cany-starved wolves.  This routine of course required several trips back home to dump off the loot and begin again.  Probably covered a couple of square miles of homes in Chicago proper where the poulation (house density) made it easy pickings.  Candy lasted past New Years!!!    SurpriseWhistling

Later, gang.

Jack

Well it's 39, cloudy but finally calm. It's nice not hearing the wind howling. I cannot remember NYC ever being brought to it's knees like this storm did. Most storms summer and winter seem to miss them. And flooded subways do any of you remember that ever happening? Oh well on with the day, Happy Hump day to all of you...S.J.

Partly cloudy and cool here,

Glad most of you in Sandy's path made out fair. Sure a lot of damage to clean up.

Golly the guy next door took his Dodge to the Dodge dealer,  told them all the problems he had had and the things he had replaced with no luck fixing it and they told him they would not work on it???  Huh?  Got to love that. Bang Head

JEFFERY, looks like that pine tree was hit by SANDY?

Nah, it was hit by a Running Bear!

*

Good morning. It's 48° with patchy fog and 90% humidity. The high will be 78°.

Nothing particular planned for today, just more resting and movie watching. I may get some cleanup work done on the layout later depending on how I feel.

I hope all who had to contend with Sandy fared well and you don't have too much in the way of damage.

Good morning all,

Still cloudy, cool and windy in SE Indiana.  Got the Halloween train set up.  Looks pretty cool.  Sound car is great.  Hope the weather clears so all the trick or treaters show up.  Good to hear that most of those affected by Sandy are doing ok.  Good idea you had last night for the showers and coffee, Brutus.  Will have to regale you all with a story of my best shower ever (all G rated), but that is for another day.  Recent talk of the Hindenburg here reminds me that my grandfather was stationed near the crash site when it occurred and was able to visit the site the next day.  Probably could not do not today.  TBIL and I can drive after the trick or treat session is done.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Aloha and Happy Halloween. Looks like a nice, cool day. This is One of my favorite holidays, along with Christmas, Thanksgiving, Groundhog Day and oh heck every holiday. But this one i took a day off so I can take the youngest trick-or-treating. I'll miss it when he doesn't want to go anymore. The official times are too so early now!  Great TARDIS ride last night; Sir James sure is a crazy pilot. Bob, I remember that Fiddlers Green website! I have to revisit it! I outfitted my entire N gauge layout with their little buildings. Had to re-read Fife's post about the 'bikini' flying off... Wink. Glad all here are OK...
