Page 1.  Whoopee!

Jusy putzed around the house this weekend.  We did enjoy an eight course beer tasting dinner last night.  Eight courses, each with a matching beer.

I did stop by the LHS yesterday to find that my cemetary kit for the halloween layout had arrived.  Also got an old caboose stripped, ready for a helloween themed repaint too.

About all for now.

Good Evening!

Laz & Doug... Really fantastic pictures!  Really like the one of the kids next to the 4-8-8.

DJ.  Great move for Corey!  I'm sure things are not easy for him either.  Prays continue for Tyler and your family.

Kev, As the picture of the switcher is from Crivitz, Wi., Are you very familiar with the area?  Both sets of my fraternal Great Grandparents lived there.  One side had a farm, the other owned "Nesters Corner", which was a General Store, Bar, and Gas Station.  I remember being their often as a child.

Interesting time at work today.  First thing that has happened is at work, one of the guys left to return to school full time.  I was looking forward to 2 or 3 days, and cooler weather!  That's not happening, of course the weather is really hot right now, 102-105, hopefully short lived, schedules for the next to weeks are 40 hours each!  And this is the "slow" time.  Hmmmm.

Today was EXTREMELY EVENTFUL!  This morning the Chief Engineer on the RR decided it wa time for me to move over for some time in the Right Seat.  So I ended up Engineering the train for two trips.  That was cool !! Going to take some time to get use to the whistle cord, speed and braking distances.  Will be able to do this, just going to take some time.

Hi GUYZ,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my MINNIE DOG!!!!  She is 2 yrs. old today.  We celebrated this morning with a nice 6 mile walk to the river and she chased some squirrels this morning, almost caught one.  Thanks for the CONGAs on the fish.  Yes this is an unusual run of fish, just hope it happens next year.  We are booked for 3 days at Super 8 for Oct 1st 2013.  Can't wait!

Gotta do bills today, balance check book and then start cutting back flowers and plants.

Aloha, and Happy Monday. Great ride on the TARDIS last night. Looking for a group of days on my schedule this fall to start redoing the layout for Ivor the Engine. I'll also have some old metal Marx and misc. cars to sell. Here's the BN U30C they were using at the IRM yesterday in addition to the CA&E cars.

Good morning guys,

Still not caught up on the old pot yet but did thumb through it.

Brian is taking in his F250 today to see how much damage that deer did. From what I can see it looks like a lot. It even got into the core support, broke it in 4 places. So it will be better than 3K I bet. He is not happy. Sad

Don, I have been going up to the Crivitz area for about 19 years. Mark's family has 700+ Ac in SilverCliff. So If you leave Crivitz on A and go north to C then west about 5 miles you would be there. Crivitz is the closes town with anything you would need. About 24 miles from their place so yes I know my way around town by now. Wink

We went to Laona WI. on Saturday to see the 1916 Valcan 2-6-2 they have there that you can ride into the old logging camp. That is where the speeder was.  I got some good shots but too many to post at one time.

DJ. Prayers for Tyler and the rest of your family. Angel

This shows the scale of the Plymouth. Cute little thing. Smile

Good morning. It's 60° with 95% humidity. Mostly cloudy. High 75°

Bill paying day. I have a couple of bills to pay online then I'll be in town paying my bills at those places that refuse to go to online billing. Today I'll pay off the last item I bought through the History Channel Club and pay off THE LAST payment on my Life Membership. That'll be that much more money I can use for something else. I don't think I'll get much done on the grain elevator today. If I do it would likely be on an upper smaller structure that will be on top of the one I worked on yesterday. I also need to work out how long the galleries will be.

Well best get about the business of the day.

Good Mornin' Y'all From Partly Sunny Taxachusetts,

Fall is officially here!  The trees are starting turning colors in earnest now, and a few leaves are beginning to fall.  Peak Fall foliage viewing season for the tourists is right now up in Northern Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, and is moving Southward.  Our peak color will be in about a week to ten days.  We have had about four consecutive days of rain and overcast conditions which thankfully came to an end yesterday afternoon.

Then the sun came out, just in time for our 4pm dog training up in Derry New Hampshire.  So class was held outdoors.  Two new students showed up with dog-reactive dogs, but there was not a peep out of them even though the owners were nervous as can be their dogs would act out and the owners were certain carnage would follow.  Those reactive dogs.are in for a whole new wonderful life if their owners stay with it.  Dogs recognize when there is a new sheriff in town, their owners who have drawn a line in the sand and sought professional help with their pups.  Then the pups just go with the flow, and a whole new world outside their homes and yards opens up..

Yesterday was the official launch of "Haunted Happenings" in Salem MA (the Witch City, just over the harbor bridge South from my place).  This is a month- long celebration of all things Halloween and the Salem witch trials of the 1790s.  It culminates on Halloween when hundreds of thousands descend on Salem, half of which are decked out in full costume, adults and kids alike.

Last Friday was also the opening day for the Topsfield Fair, the oldest continuously running agricultural fair in the U.S.  Topsfield MA. is about 7 miles West of me.  The Topsfield Fair had its beginnings around 1820.  A shame because it rained all weekend which must have dampened the opening weekend attendence.  But the weather has cleared and the Fair runs until a week from today.  Saturday at the Fair, a Rhode Island guy won the largest pumpkin contest.  His weighed in at 2,009 pounds, setting a new world's record in the process.  This is the first pumpkin ever to top a ton!!!!

Later, gang.

Wow!!!!!!!!  A lot of positive stuff has been going on this past weekend.

Spanky......thank you for the good news update on Tyler and your whirlwind activities.  In such a short period of time you have things ironed out on the medical, school, and living arrangement fronts.  You even got a carpet central layout set up!!!  I hope Tyler's test results come back thumbs up and he can start chowing this week.  And best wishes that the job interview you had Saturday.  What are you doing in your spare time?  Hang in there, buddy. WhistlingAngel

BOC.........I was glad to read you whipped the snot out of your cold with the tried and true remedy.  Hope you are making some progress on the weight front.  Have you broken out your long underwear yet?  36 degrees may make your surrounds the coldest so far this Fall amongst all of us.  DrinksDinnerAngel

Brutus....... that was good news on your Mom.  I hope the effects of her treatments don't cause her too much discomfort and that they are completely successful. Angel

HudsonJohn.....prayers that your Mom's visit to the Doc today enable them to come up with a course of treatment.  She sounds like a pistol!!!  Hope she is not a Yankees fan.  Angel

MikeC......prayers for you continue.  I think you said it best.  If we can put perspective on things, sooner or later the sunshine returns. Angel

Dennis........hope you and your family are settling down to just chaos levels.  You are blessed, but I think you need a second dog, one of the herding breeds.  AngelLaugh

Prayers for those I have missed.  Later, gang.

What happened?!?  The sun disappeared, the winds picked way up, and now I am seeing severe weather warnings unfold on TV and out the window.  Was going to go out and spread my first coat of Fall fertilizer on the lawn along with some pelletized lime, so that is out.Bang Head

Last night my wife and I attended the wake for a good friend's Dad.  He was 94, bless him.  The family did something my wife and I had never seen before.  The Dad was decked out in his lucky plaid shirt, his favorite fishing cap, and had his fishing license hanging arould his neck (current, of course).  Beats the heck out of a stupid suit and tie which he would never had let himself be seen in.

The wife and I had picked up three of her (female) friends for the wake.  After a few miles one of them asked me why I was being so quiet.  I responded, "Is that a trick question?" Whistling

I received my quarterly water bill which covered the Summer months.  As you may recall, I had caved in during the heat and drought and watered enough to keep things from dying out completely.  $395!  Bang Head

I left the house yesterday afternoon for dog training and my 1-2 New England Patriots were having their lunch handed to them into the third quarter, behind 21-7 and with the AFC rival Buffalo Bills (at home) controlling the game.  After dog training, I learned that the Patriots had awakened and came back to win 52-28. SurpriseThumbs Up

RaySP/Grillmeister......we are proud of you.  Like Pat said, we all just perform the quick and easy cleaning while the grill is still hot and leave the worry with the rest for the next session.  Except in my case, when my son burns something to death when we are not around, then leaves the grill like that.  Then I get an unpleasant surprise the next time I open the lid and find what he left behind. Bang Head

V8Dennis........you can't have "too many boxcars."  Mutually exclusive terms.  Ah, the Milwaukee Road, nice. Thumbs Up

Jeff.......hope you get that window size for the grain elevators sorted out in your mind.  You certainly don't want to have them drive you nuts and have to redo them.  personally, I like the color you chose.  You may wind up weathering them, and that is your gift. Thumbs Up

LAZ.........most important, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINNIE PUPHappy B-Day Hope there is a prime rib and a bone in your bowl tonight!! Laz, holy mackerel salmon!!!!  Thanks for the pictures and video!  Did you ever wonder what the fishing was like back in the 1600s and 1700s when the oceans, rivers, streams, and lakes weren't fished out?  In my neck of the woods back then, one just walked down the beach and picked up the lobsters, no lobster traps necessary.  Lobsters were considered the poor man's meal they were so plentiful.  SurpriseThumbs Up

KEV.........on this forum you will now be affectionately known as THE DEERSLAYER.  Not exactly what James Fennimore Cooper had in mind.  Glad you were not hurt and it was not your truck that hit it.  Re Silver Cliff WI, that's about 140 miles due East from Rib Lake WI, where my maternal grandparents lived and my Mom was born, the place my Dad used to refer to as "Where God lost His shoes."   That drove my grandfather nuts. Pretty country, unspoiled by development, and I hope it stays that way.  And those train shots were great!  Thumbs Up

DougM........you got some great shots of your neices and your son at the Illinois Railroad Museum.  Tell me those drivers don't look massive with the kiddies standing dwarfed in front of them. SurpriseThumbs Up

AF Ray........hope you have not run out of Maalox and Tums.  It aint over yet for the O's !!!! Whistling

8N.........I read with interest about your 8 course dinner with each course served with a complimenting beer.  What you didn't say was what beers were served, or don't you remember. BeerLaugh

Rich........you sound like you were having way too much fun at the festival.  Hope the car sales and replacement car prospects are bearing some fruit. Thumbs Up

FIFE.........no further news from you on Fifepup and his driving exploits.  So that must be a good sign. Thumbs UpWink

JoeyD........with all of the typhoons near your neck of the woods you ought to take up sufing.  Laugh

SubmmBob.........glad to hear the Corvair is squared away.  Didn't you say you are going on a road trip with it soon?

Later, gang.

Lunch Time:

Mom is doing great on her own. I check up on her a lot to make sure. My wife is taking her to the doctor today to see what course of treatment she will undergo. according to her she is fine.

RI Jack, Mom is a Philly Phanatic. She would rather watch the Mets than the Yankees.

DJ, Prayers for Tyler and the family. A "Mercruiser", those Gran Marguis are popular at "Holiday City" by me.

Shake and Bake: Slow season? 40 hr. week? Enjoy the engines and the Goose.

Kev: Nice Pics. That may be a destination of mine on a road trip.

Laz: Happy Birthday to Minnie. Happy B-Day 59 days and a wake up to go.

2 weeks to York.

Have a Great Day!

Lunch hour.

Well I went and got the groceries because the wife did not when I was gone. Paid some first of the month bills and picked up lunch. Now to make meatloaf for tonight then some time for me. Wink

Here are a few more pictures from the Camp 5 at Laona WI. We did not take the ride but they say you can spend 2.5 hours touring the logging camp. Maybe next trip with the wife I will take the ride to.

We had Beer to drink on  Saturday when we got back to the cabin. Wink Beer

P.S.

Just saw Brain and the damage on his truck is over 3k in parts alone. The good news is State Farm considers a deer hit as payable under the comprehensive coverage so no detectable. Yes

 John,

 Prayers for your mom. Angel

Afternoon Fellas

DJ - Great news about Tyler! Prayers will continue!

I went back through the last few days of September's Pot and I saw that Laz has been playing with taxidermied fish and photoshop again! And he got his brother involved in his shananagins this time!

Fife - Glad to hear Fifegrandpup recognizes train whistles... in a few years he'll be able to identify the engine by its whistlie like FifeGrandDog... Smile

TheQ has been studying for her certification exam this weekend and this has afforded me the opportunity to 'watch/supervise/monitor' Christina... when she takes her naps I have been able to make it down to the trainroom and have made considerable progress! Last weekend I was able to completely rebuild the transition track from the first level as it comes out of the second level mountain. The ceiling tile has also been cut and put in place. This weekend I was able to rebuild the transition track inside the mountain and I identified one last area of concern which I will address this coming weekend. Once I have ceiling tiles in place I will be able to put the foam roadbed under the track, drill the power drop holes and then secure the track. This will be the first time in 3 years that the entire main level will be screwed in place! I will also be able to get the supports built for the tunnel portal for the transition track on level 2 and the double portal for the main level. I also hope to get the support structure built for another mountain... I will post pics this weekend.

I expect that by 10/11 I'll have a substantial area of the layout sceniced! and I may even be able to run trains for the first time in a year! When I told Christina that we'll be able to run trains in a couple weeks she smiled and said 'Choo Choo'. Big Smile

 Happy October the oneth all,

Went in for regular doctor check up this morning at 11:00AM and was told my appointment was cancelled because of a power failure earlier.  Come back tomorrow at 4:00PM.  We will keep doing this until we get it right.  Nice of them to call me and save me a trip to the office!Whistling

Don, congratulations on moving over to the right hand side and sitting in the cat bird seat.  You're becoming a regular Casey Jones.

Laz, thanks for the video of the fish.  That was a sight for sore eyes for someone who hasn't been fishing in a long time.   What is the limit on keepers?  Happy birthday to MinnieHappy B-Day

Jeffrey, thanks for the photos of the progress on the silos and buildings.  The fly paper adds a nice touch.  Sorry, couldn"t help myself.

Temp is going up to 105 today and hot again tomorrow.  Suppose to taper off a little on the weekend.

V8, California does have a lot of faults including smog but at least you don't have to shovel it.  Smog levels are not as bad as when I moved here in 1958.  It was so bad then you could not see the Hollywood Hills from Hollywood Blvd and that's only a few blocks South of it.  My eyes watered constantly for a while.  We have lived in the San Gabriel Valley East of downtown since about 1962.  Moved to Glendora in 1976 which is the only town I would live in  here in the San Gabriel Valley.

Went out to eat last night and had a New York steak but was a dissapointment.  Had too much grissel.  Most of it was eatable though.

Ray

well wasn't able to do work in den/train room because of weather as I need to cut wood outside and it was raining. did get some shelves built today for the train room and I put my latest haul on the top 3 shelves except the NYC A-B-A all the boxes and cars of coarse the Marx switches and some other track is not present. I also sent 2 items to Brutus which where repainted prewar items.

Most of the boxes are in fair to good shape The guy did do one thing which made me Bang Head He took the original box that had the 3 2356 engine boxes in that was used to sell as a set and used it to ship some of the train cars its not completely destroyed as he wrote my address on a piece of paper and taped it to the box so was able to get that off but theres a 3" x 1 1/2" area he has his address in the top right corner and there is 2 tracking labels and priority mail tape across it but as a whole its not completely destroyed.

I started working on the ZW I got with this set as it needed a new cord real bad but can't find my solder gun as every thing is here and there while redoing the den/train room. I'll find it in the next two days I went out and bought a heavy duty replacement plug and cord. Everything else looks good on it.

Kev.....Thanks for sharing the photos.  Always like to see rolling stock and locomotives from all over the world.

Almost nine hundred miles for work last week.  I need to do the long road trips before the snow flies.

Still might try to make York, but the oil keeps showing up in Ohio.  It is the pipeline work, specifically the compressor building sites that keep us busy.  One well went down 8000 feet vertically and then 8000 feet horizontally. (The Grand Canyon is a mile deep.)

Looking forward to a less than 300 mile week.

Jeffrey, that is a beautiful watch and the price was right!  Being a Civil War buff, it caught my eye right away.  However, I don't collect Civil War memorabilia much.  I did pick up some spent bullets from the battlefield at Gettysburg but bought them at a shop there.  They won't let you take anything from the park itself.  I have books mostly on the subject and some music on CD's and tapes from the period.  We saw a civil war reinnactor band play a concert once at Gettysburg near the anniversary of the battle July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 1863.  They even had period instruments in the band.

Suppose to be raining.  Not raining.  ????  Rains when they say no rain and then doesn't when they say it will.  Meetings over.  Tomorrow is a no Town day.  Was suppose to be a ribbon cutting for new extra nice subdivision.  Moved it to Thursday due to forecast of rain.  Now I have to rearrange my schedule as was suppose to be gone.  Will leave as soon as ribbon cutting and FREE meal is over.  Oysters, shrimp, crab cakes and veggies. Dinner  Think I would miss this?????  I really would but developer is a great guy and builds quality.  Gave us a nature park.

Dog sled will be a little slower.
